What is Nullscape?

Nullscape transforms the vanilla End into an alien dimension with surreal terrain, plus a couple of new biomes. It keeps the End barren and bleak, so expect a lonely trip, just you against the void.[1]

It raises the End's height to 384 blocks and uses the modern worldgen features from 1.18 to build very varied terrain. You can find shattered islands, floating valleys and crystallized peaks. Different regions of the End have different properties on very large scales, from sponge-like porous terrain to stretched alien landscapes to stacked rounded islands. The further you travel, the more new shapes you'll find.[1]

This version of the pack includes Nullscape 1.2.14. It has been in the pack since version 0.58 or earlier.[2]

Watch out: Don't add Nullscape to an existing End. Reset yours first, or use a new world. The mod is also not compatible with the majority of other End worldgen projects, with the exception of Better End.[1]
Tip: Want to scout a seed before you go? The mod's project page points to jacobsjo's Minecraft Datapack Map, which shows the structures and biomes per seed.[1]

How do you get started with Nullscape?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Nullscape is a world generation mod, so your first steps with it are about exploring the End rather than crafting. It transforms the vanilla End into an alien dimension with surreal terrain and a couple of new biomes, while keeping the End desolate.[1]

Before you head to the End

  1. Use a fresh world, or reset your End first. The mod's notes say not to add it to an existing End, so an End you have already generated won't give you the new terrain.[1]
  2. Don't mix it with other End worldgen mods. The mod is not compatible with the majority of them, and the only exception its page names is Better End.[1]
  3. Optionally, look at your seed in the Minecraft Datapack Map. The mod's page recommends it for viewing the structures and biomes per seed, which helps you plan where to go.[1]

What to expect when you arrive

The mod raises the End's height to 384 blocks and uses 1.18's modern worldgen features for varied terrain. You can find shattered islands, floating valleys and crystallized peaks.[1]

Different regions of the End, on very large scales, have different properties. That means sponge-like porous terrain, stretched alien landscapes and stacked rounded islands. The further you travel, the more new shapes you'll see.[1]

Unverified This pack has no quests for Nullscape and no recipes that produce its items, so there is no confirmed list of items to craft first. How the pack sets up the End for you (for example, whether it needs a reset) is also not confirmed here, so follow the notes above if your End was already generated.

How does Nullscape work?

4 parts

Nullscape is a terrain mod, not a tech mod. It rebuilds the End as an alien dimension with surreal terrain and a few new biomes, while keeping it desolate. The sources describe worldgen only, so this section covers how the End is generated rather than machines or automation.[1]

Setting it up safely

  • Do not add Nullscape to an existing End. Reset your End first, or use a new world.[1]
  • It is not compatible with the majority of other End worldgen projects, with Better End as the exception.[1]
  • It raises the End's height to 384 blocks and uses 1.18 worldgen features to build very varied terrain: shattered islands, floating valleys and crystallized peaks.[1]
  • Different regions of the End, on very large scales, have different properties, so terrain can be sponge-like and porous, stretched, or made of stacked rounded islands.[1]

Biomes

The biome files shown here are Crystal Peaks, Shadowlands and Void Barrens. In each of them, the monster spawn list includes endermen with a weight of 10, in groups of exactly 4. None of them has any creature, ambient or water creature spawns listed.[3][4][5]

  • Crystal Peaks: the sky is set to 0 and the ambient loop is the soul sand valley sound. It has an amethyst block chime as an additions sound and a falling obsidian tear particle. It generates the crystal feature.[3]
  • Shadowlands: this is the busiest biome. Besides endermen, it can spawn phantoms (weight 5, one at a time). Ash particles fall with a probability of 0.08. It generates shadow features such as shadow cuts, blackstone, basalt, bone trees, droops, pillars, vegetation and coral pillars.[4]
  • Void Barrens: the plainest of these biomes. Its only sound is the cave mood sound, and no particles are listed.[5]

Each of these biomes lists the vanilla end gateway return feature, though in different generation steps.[3][4][5]

Carvers

The mod ships canyon-type carvers that cut long cracks and rifts into the terrain. In the carver files listed below, aquifers are turned off. The sources do not show which biomes use them.[6][7][8][9][10]

  • shatter: probability 0.85, between 40 above the bottom and Y 120. This is the most common one.[9]
  • shatter1: probability 0.5, spread across the height of the dimension from 20 above the bottom to 20 below the top.[10]
  • rift: probability 0.1, with a width smoothness of 50.[7]
  • canyon: probability 0.02, between Y 20 and Y 67.[6]
  • shatter_huge: probability 0.01, over the same height range as shatter, with thickness between 6 and 12.[8]

Boneyard pillars

One of the boneyard features, pillar_1, is a random patch of obsidian with 750 tries and a spread of 1 block horizontally and 0 vertically. A block is only placed in an air space whose block below is obsidian, end stone or air, so the pillars grow out of existing surfaces.[11]

How do you progress through Nullscape?

3 parts

There is no tier ladder to climb for this mod in the pack, so this section is short. What the mod's own data does show is the biomes Crystal Peaks, Shadowlands and Void Barrens, and what to expect from each one.[3][4][5]

Crystal Peaks

Crystal Peaks has no precipitation. Its only monster spawn is the enderman, with a weight of 10 and groups of exactly 4. Its feature list includes nullscape:crystal/crystal, which is what generates the crystal formations.[3]

Shadowlands

Shadowlands has the busiest monster list of the biomes covered here. Endermen spawn here with a weight of 10 and groups of 4, and phantoms also spawn with a weight of 5, one at a time. The biome has a temperature of 2 and no rain, and ash particles fall in it.[4]

Its generation includes blackstone, basalt, bone trees, drooping features, pillars, vegetation and coral pillars.[4]

Void Barrens

Void Barrens is the plainest biome. It has the same enderman spawn as Crystal Peaks (weight 10, groups of 4) and no creature spawns. Its only listed feature is the end gateway return.[5]

Tip: Endermen spawn in groups of 4 in all of these biomes, so avoid meeting their gaze while you explore. Shadowlands adds phantoms on top of that.[3][4][5]

What changed in Nullscape between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10 8.2 ships Nullscape 1.2.14, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.58 or earlier.[2]

Most Nullscape releases are version bumps for new Minecraft releases. Version 1.2.10 is the one that changed what you see in the world.[12][13][14][15][16]

Pack updates

  • All the Mods 10 2.43 updated Nullscape from 1.2.10 to 1.2.11.[17]
  • All the Mods 10 4.1 updated it from 1.2.11 to 1.2.12.[18]
  • All the Mods 10 4.13 updated it from 1.2.12 to 1.2.14.[19]

Changes in the mod

  • 1.2.14 updated the mod to support Minecraft 1.21.9 and 1.21.10.[12]
  • 1.2.12 added support for Minecraft 1.21.6.[13]
  • 1.2.11 updated the mod to support Minecraft 1.21.5.[14]
  • 1.2.10 updated the mod to support Minecraft 1.21.4. Trees in the Shadowlands now have Pale Moss as leaves instead of Dead Coral.[15]
  • 1.2.10 also added Rift structures (the changelog words it as added or re-added). You can find them in the Shadowlands, and they teleport you back to the main end island.[15]
  • 1.2.9 updated the mod to support Minecraft 1.21.3.[16]
  • 1.2.8 added 3D shading support to jacobsjo's Datapack Map.[20]
Tip: Rift structures in the Shadowlands teleport you back to the main end island, so they are a handy way home when you are exploring.[15]

"From pack files" means the list came from the pack's own files; "from the published release" means ForgeBase read the jars of the release itself.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as nullscape, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
