What is Extended Industrialization?

3 parts

Extended Industrialization is an addon for Modern Industrialization. It adds new machines, power sources, tools and resources on top of what Modern Industrialization already gives you. The pack ships it as extended-industrialization-1.16.2-1.21.1.[1][2]

Its goal is to cover more ground than Modern Industrialization while staying true to that mod's design. The headline idea is batching multiblocks. They let you scale factories further, with fewer machines to configure and less strain on performance.[3]

What you get

  • Machines such as the Alloy Smelter, Brewery, Farmer, Large Furnace, Large Macerator, Machine Chainer and Processing Array.[1]
  • Solar Boilers and Solar Panels. Boilers use no fuel but need sunlight and water. Panels need a photovoltaic cell.[1][4]
  • Tools and equipment, including the Steam Chainsaw, Electric Drill & Chainsaw, Ultimate Laser Drill and Nano Suit.[1]
  • Wireless EU transfer with Tesla coils and receivers, plus an Electric Beacon that runs on potions.[5][6]

Who it's for

This mod is for you if you're already building factories with Modern Industrialization and want to grow and automate them. Batching multiblocks let you run more inputs at once without placing a pile of machines. For example, the Processing Array can run batches of any non-multiblock electric crafting machine you put into it.[3][7]

Where it fits in the pack

You meet this mod early and keep using it as you move into the electric and digital stages of the questbook.[8][9][10]

  1. Steam Age: a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings" asks for the Steel Alloy Smelter. The quest describes the Alloy Smelter as combining the jobs of a Mixer and a Furnace into one machine.[10]
  2. Electric Age: a quest in "Electric Age" asks for the Electric Alloy Smelter, the electric version of the same idea.[9]
  3. Digital Age: a quest in "Digital Age" asks for the Processing Array. The quest describes it as a large multiblock that simulates machines running in parallel.[8]

Unverified The sources I have don't show this mod on the ATM Star path, so don't count on it for that route.

How do you get started with Extended Industrialization?

5 parts

Extended Industrialization is an addon for Modern Industrialization. It adds extra machines, power sources, tools and resources on top of the base mod. In this pack you meet it early, because its Alloy Smelter shows up in the steam age quests.[1][3][10]

Step one: Steel Alloy Smelter

Your first stop is the Steel Alloy Smelter, which the quest a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings" in the steam age chapter asks you to make. It does the job of a Mixer and a Furnace in one machine, so you spend less time on setup.[10]

Step two: Electric Alloy Smelter

When you move on to electricity, the quest a quest in "Electric Age" asks for the Electric Alloy Smelter. Its quest note says it is the same idea as the steam one.[9]

Step three: check the pack-changed recipes

Some recipes in this pack differ from the mod's defaults, so don't trust old guides for these. The pack changes the Bronze Bending Machine, the Bronze Composter and the Steel Plated Bricks. The blocks below show the exact in-pack recipes.[11]

Step four: automate farming

The Steam Farmer is a good early project. It tills and hydrates soil, plants, and harvests crops, plants and trees. It needs 32 EU/t of steam to run. The recipe uses a Steel Combine, so craft that first.[11][12]

The Electric Farmer needs 64 EU/t. Only the electric version can fertilize, and it takes an acceptable fluid fertilizer for that. Its recipe uses the Steam Farmer as an ingredient.[11][12]

Later: the Processing Array

The Processing Array comes with the Digital Age chapter, in the quest a quest in "Digital Age". It is a large multiblock that simulates machines running in parallel. You pick how many parallel machines you want in the controller GUI, and you need that many machines placed into it.[8]

It works with non-multiblock electric crafting machines, and its batch size depends on its size and on how many machines you put in.[7]

How does Extended Industrialization work?

8 parts

Extended Industrialization is an addon for Modern Industrialization. It aims to extend that mod's content while staying true to its design, so everything here plugs into the machines, hatches and cables you already know.[3]

Batching multiblocks

Certain multiblocks work like a normal machine of their type, but with a multiplier on how many inputs they process at once. A multiblock that can run a recipe in batches of Y can consume anywhere between 1x and Yx as many inputs at once, then produces results according to its batch size. The EU/t it uses is multiplied by the number of batches it is currently running.[7]

The batch count differs from machine to machine, so check the tooltip on the machine's item for the exact value. Regular machines still cannot run more than one recipe at a time.[7]

  • Large Electric Furnace: the batch size comes from the coils in the multiblock, much like building an Electric Blast Furnace. Each coil's tooltip tells you the batch size it provides.[7]
  • Large Macerator: also a batching multiblock.[7]
  • Processing Array: runs batches of any non-multiblock electric crafting machine you put into its interface. Its batch size is limited by its size and by how many machines you place inside.[7]

Electric Beacon

The Electric Beacon consumes potions and gives the effect to all nearby players, at a cost of 256 EU/t per effect. A potion lasts in the beacon for half the duration of its shortest effect. An 8 minute speed potion gives 4 minutes of the effect for 256 EU/t. A 40 second turtle master potion lasts 20 seconds and costs 512 EU/t, because it has two effects (slowness and resistance).[6]

Potions are used up, so it's worth building an automation loop with the brewery to keep the beacon running. Its range is larger than a normal beacon's and depends on the layers beneath it, not counting the steel casing.[6]

  • 1 layer: range 30[6]
  • 2 layers: range 50[6]
  • 3 layers: range 70[6]
  • 4 layers: range 90[6]

Brewery

The brewery works as a normal machine but performs brewing stand recipes. It takes Blazing Essence instead of blaze powder, and each time it brews a set of potions it consumes exactly 1mb of Blazing Essence. It also brews exactly 4 potions at a time, where a brewing stand does 1 to 3.[13]

Farmer

The farmer doesn't run recipes. Instead it tills and hydrates soil, plants, fertilizes and harvests crops, plants and trees. You don't have to use every task, and sometimes you shouldn't: with trees, for example, you don't want it tilling or hydrating soil. It won't work without enough energy: the steam farmer needs 32 EU/t of steam and the electric farmer needs 64 EU/t.[12]

The dirt in the farmer multiblock can be swapped for any block with the tag #extended_industrialization:farmer_dirt.[12]

  • Tilling: when enabled in the multiblock shape settings, the dirt blocks of the multiblock turn into farmland, as if you'd used a hoe.[12]
  • Hydrating: with water in an input hatch, all farmland stays hydrated without water placed nearby.[12]
  • Planting: plantable items in an input hatch are planted on suitable blocks in the working area. Only items with the #extended_industrialization:farmer_plantable tag can be planted.[12]
  • Fertilizing: only the electric farmer can do this. Give it an acceptable fluid fertilizer (shown in EMI) in an input hatch and it applies a bonemeal-like effect, even to plants that can't normally be bonemealed, such as cactus and sugar cane.[12]
  • Harvesting: a fully grown plant, or a sapling that has grown into a tree, is broken and stored as long as an output hatch has space.[12]

Items with the tag #extended_industrialization:farmer_voidable have low priority for storage in output hatches. If there's no room for them when a harvested block drops them, they are discarded instead.[12]

Machine Chainer

The Machine Chainer links to many machines, barrels or any inventory block tagged #extended_industrialization:machine_chainer/linkable, in a straight line up to 64 blocks long. The linked inventories are combined into a single shared inventory at the chainer. It can face any direction, including up and down.[14]

It handles items, fluids and energy. Energy transfer is limited to 3x the transfer rate of a single cable of its tier, and it can't touch the energy of linked machines that don't match its voltage. The Machine Chainer Relay can be linked by the chainer but has no inventory, so use it as filler to bridge a gap without needing a machine there.[14]

Solar power

Solar Boilers behave like normal bronze and steel boilers but burn no fuel. They need direct sunlight above them and still need water, and they produce half as much energy as a standard boiler of their type. Over time a Solar Boiler calcifies and loses up to 33% efficiency. Using an axe on it resets the calcification, and feeding it Distilled Water instead of normal water avoids it completely.[4]

Solar Panels produce energy in direct sunlight when they hold a photovoltaic cell of their tier. The cell erodes and eventually breaks, so you'll want to produce cells passively to keep power flowing during the day. Providing Distilled Water doubles the cell's lifetime.[4]

Tesla networks

Tesla coils and receivers transfer EU wirelessly, at a cost. A tesla network is limited to one transmitter (a Tesla Coil or Tesla Tower) but has no intrinsic limit on receivers. Each transmitter has its own range and passive drain.[5]

To link things up, use a Tesla Calibrator on the transmitter first, then use it on each receiver you want connected.[5]

A transmitter can only send energy to a receiver of the exact same voltage. A Tesla Coil with an Advanced Machine Hull can't send to a Tesla Receiver without a hull, but it can send to one that also has an Advanced Machine Hull.[5]

  • Tesla Coil: the passive EU/t drain is set by the voltage of the hull inside it, or by having no hull.[5]
  • Tesla Tower: the voltage it transmits is set by the energy input hatches used. Its passive drain, transfer limit and range are set by the windings, and each winding's tooltip has the specifics.[5]

The Tesla Receiver stores the energy it receives and ejects it from its output face. You can also pull energy out with cables, like any other energy-outputting block. A Tesla Receiver Hatch receives energy the same way but acts as an energy input hatch for a multiblock, so you don't need a receiver plus a separate hatch.[5]

Upgrading bending machines

The Bronze Bending Machine can be turned into the Steel Bending Machine with a Steel Upgrade, either by crafting it directly or with a packer. An unpacker can reverse this and give you back both the bronze machine and the upgrade.[11]

How do you progress through Extended Industrialization?

4 parts

Extended Industrialization is an addon for Modern Industrialization, so you climb its tiers alongside that mod's machines. The pack's quest book has Extended Industrialization quests in three chapters: Steam Age: New Beginnings, Electric Age and Digital Age. The in-pack recipes fill in the rest of the ladder.[3][8][9][10]

Steam and steel tier

Your first Extended Industrialization quest, a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings", is in the Steam Age: New Beginnings chapter and asks for the Steel Alloy Smelter. The quest text says it combines the jobs of the mixer and the furnace into one machine, which makes the work less tedious.[10]

Several other lines have electric versions too: the Electric Bending Machine, Electric Brewery, Electric Canning Machine, Electric Composter and Electric Honey Extractor. The Electric Farmer needs 64 EU/t. It adds fluid fertilizing, which also works on plants like cactus and sugar cane that normally can't be bonemealed.[11][12]

The Large Electric Furnace and Large Electric Macerator are batching multiblocks. They work like their normal machine type but process several inputs at once, and the EU/t they use is multiplied by the number of batches running. The furnace gets its batch size from the coils you build it with.[7]

Solar power comes from the LV Solar Panel and the HV Solar Panel. They produce energy in direct sunlight, but they need a photovoltaic cell of their tier, and that cell erodes and eventually breaks. Providing Distilled Water doubles the cell's lifetime.[4][11]

Digital age: the Processing Array

The Digital Age chapter's quest a quest in "Digital Age" asks for the Processing Array along with its casings and hatches. The quest text says you pick the number of parallel machines in the controller's GUI, then put the machine you want to simulate into the slot on the right. You need as many machines as the operations you want, and it accepts the usual upgrades.[8]

How does Extended Industrialization work with other mods?

5 parts

Extended Industrialization is an addon for Modern Industrialization, so that is its biggest connection in this pack. Many of the mod's machines, components and modules are built from Modern Industrialization parts, which means you progress through both mods side by side.[1][3][11]

Machines built on Modern Industrialization parts

The electric machines, like the Electric Alloy Smelter, are made from Modern Industrialization machine hulls, circuits, cables and rotors. The steel-tier machines, like the Steel Alloy Smelter, are built around Modern Industrialization casings and tanks instead. Many of them have both a crafting table recipe and an assembler recipe.[11]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Extended Industrialization?

4 parts

Extended Industrialization shows up in three quest chapters in the pack. Each one has a single quest for this mod, and each unlocks after an earlier quest in its own chapter. Here they are in the order you'll meet the machines: steam, then electric, then digital.[8][9][10]

Steam Age: New Beginnings

Quest a quest in "Steam Age: New Beginnings" asks you to get the Steel Alloy Smelter. The quest text explains that this Alloy Smelter comes from Extended Industrialization and does the job of a Mixer and a Furnace in one machine, so you skip some tedious steps.[10]

Electric Age

Quest a quest in "Electric Age" asks for the Electric Alloy Smelter. Its description reads "Same as steam as one", which points back to the steam version above. It only has that one task.[9]

Digital Age

Quest a quest in "Digital Age" is the biggest of the three and is about the Processing Array. The quest text describes it as a large multiblock that simulates machines running in parallel.[8]

The quest has several tasks. Besides the Processing Array itself, you hand in a clean stainless steel machine casing and a stainless steel machine casing pipe. You also need three kinds of hatches, and each accepts several tiers: an item input hatch, an item output hatch, and an energy input hatch. The energy task also accepts a steel fluid output hatch.[8]

How the quest says to use the Processing Array

  1. Build the multiblock.[8]
  2. Open the controller's GUI and select how many parallel machines you want to simulate.[8]
  3. Put the machine you want to simulate into the slot on the right side of the GUI. You need as many of that machine as the number of operations you want.[8]

The quest also says the Processing Array accepts the usual upgrades. It does mention a maximum number of parallel operations, but the number is mixed in with formatting codes in the quest text, so I can't read it reliably here.[8]

Unverified The sources don't say how the three chapters are ordered relative to each other, or which quests must be finished before each of these unlocks. Check the in-game quest book for that.

Which Extended Industrialization config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.38 guide

Extended Industrialization is an addon for Modern Industrialization that adds new machines, power sources, tools and resources, such as the Large Furnace, the Solar Panel and the Nano Suit. That is all the mod's project page tells us here, and it doesn't list any config options.[1]

Unverified I don't have this pack's config files for Extended Industrialization, so I can't say which options exist or which values the pack changed from the mod defaults. Until those files are available, treat any specific option name or value for this mod as unconfirmed.

What changed in Extended Industrialization between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Extended Industrialization 1.16.2-1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own release notes, grouped by version.[2]

1.15.0 to 1.15.10

  • 1.15.0 added the Nano Saber and the Quantum Nano Saber, plus a PT_BR localization.[15]
  • 1.15.0 also fixed electric tool 3x3 mining, which used the targeted block's break speed for every block being mined. Changing the target block face without 3x3 mining no longer resets the block breaking animation either.[15]
  • 1.15.0 fixed the honey bottle filling recipe in the canning machine so it uses the honey tag, and made the steam chainsaw tooltip consistent with the steam drill tooltip.[15]
  • 1.15.1 buffed Solar Panels to 2x their base energy output at peak (32, 128 and 512 EU/t for LV, MV and HV), with 1.5x output when given distilled water.[16]
  • 1.15.1 also added a solar blacklist dimension tag and an NBT tag that force hides the tesla animation on the tesla particle generator.[16]
  • 1.15.3 fixed the silver polished machine casing recipe id and updated to Modern Industrialization 2.3.11.[17]
  • 1.15.7 fixed the waste collector and honey extractor not using the Extended Industrialization namespace, and made both pause when they are unable to run.[18]
  • 1.15.9 fixed machine models having more textures than intended and updated Tesseract API to 1.9.0.[19]
  • 1.15.10 fixed the machine block properties for the Lethal Tesla Coil and the Tesla Particle Generator.[20]

1.15.21 to 1.16.2

  • 1.15.21 fixed several attribute problems. Electric tool and nano armor attributes set by components no longer apply when there is no energy, and steam chainsaw attributes no longer apply without fuel.[21]
  • 1.15.21 also fixed nano armor energy checks not checking cost, the nano sweep attack ignoring the item's damage attribute, and tools not using the base attribute for attack damage.[21]
  • 1.15.30 improved chainer performance for machines with locked item slots.[22]
  • 1.15.33 removed MI Tweaks as a soft dependency.[23]
  • 1.16.2 updated Tesseract API to 1.12.16 for config caching. This is the version the pack ships.[2][24]

Some other releases in this range only touched code and translations, such as the brewery GUI cleanup in 1.15.6 and the Chinese localization update in 1.15.27, so they don't change how you play.[25][26]
