What is Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum?

2 parts

Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum is an automation addon for Ex Deorum. It adds an RF-powered Sieve, Hammer and Compactor, so you can stop hammering and sieving by hand. This pack includes version 4.0.2.[1][2]

Watch out: The mod doesn't generate power. You need a separate mod for that, such as Thermal Expansion or Powah! Rearchitected.[1]

Who it's for

This is for you if you're past the manual stage of the Ex Deorum skyblock start and want your resource gathering to run on its own.[1][3]

Where it fits in the pack

In the pack's quest book, the machines show up in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts. The "Flux Hammer" quest and "Flux Sieve" quest quests both unlock after the Skyblock Automation quest. The "Flux Upgrades" quest quest comes after those two.[3]

  • The Flux Hammer hammers items automatically, using energy instead of durability. It needs an inventory on its output side. You can also put a sieve behind it to feed gravel straight in.[3]
  • The Flux Sieve needs energy, an inventory beneath it for output, and a mesh. The mesh type decides which items you get. It accepts input from any side.[3]
  • The Gold Upgrade and Diamond Upgrade speed up the Flux Sieve and Hammer and raise how many items they process. You can stack up to 3 of each.[3]

Unverified The Compactor is part of the mod, but the pack's quests don't cover it, so how it fits into progression isn't confirmed here.

How do you get started with Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum?

Ex Machinis is an automation addon for Ex Deorum. It adds an RF-powered sieve, hammer and compactor, so you can stop hammering and sieving by hand. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Watch out: The mod doesn't generate power. You'll need energy from a separate mod, like Thermal Expansion or Powah! Rearchitected, before any of the machines will run.[1]

Step one: the Flux Hammer

Start with the Flux Hammer ("Flux Hammer" quest). The quest comes after Skyblock Automation. It hammers items automatically and uses energy instead of tool durability. Put an inventory on its output side so the results go somewhere. You can even place a sieve behind it so the Gravel it makes goes straight into the sieve.[3]

The hammer pulls items from an inventory above it and pushes the results into an inventory in front. You can change the output side by sneaking and right-clicking the machine with an Ex Nihilo hammer. A redstone signal switches it off.[4]

Step two: the Flux Sieve

Next comes the Flux Sieve ("Flux Sieve" quest), which also comes after Skyblock Automation. It needs three things: energy, an inventory beneath it for the output, and a mesh. The type of mesh decides which items you get. Blocks can be fed in from any side.[3]

You can enchant a mesh with Fortune in an anvil to improve drop chances. Redstone disables the sieve, just like the hammer.[4]

Step three: upgrades

Once you have the hammer and the sieve, the Flux Upgrades quest ("Flux Upgrades" quest) follows. Upgrades make the machines work faster and process more items. You can stack up to 3 of each type, and more is better. The quest asks for the Gold Upgrade and the Diamond Upgrade.[3]

Handy extras

The Item Buffer moves items from its internal inventory into an inventory below it, and it needs no power. It tries to move everything each cycle, and upgrades speed that up. You can also add a Comparator Upgrade so it outputs a redstone signal, which you can use to shut off other machines.[4]

How does Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum work?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Ex Machinis is an automation addon for Ex Deorum. It adds RF-powered machines that do the tedious sifting, hammering and compacting for you. The mod doesn't generate power itself, so you need another mod's generators to run them. The project page suggests Thermal Expansion or Powah! Rearchitected as examples.[1]

The three RF machines

The Flux Hammer, Flux Sieve and Flux Compactor are the automatic versions of hammering, sieving and compacting. All three need RF. Their tooltips show the RF per tick, the RF cost per item, the processing time in ticks, and a progress readout in seconds. I can't give you the exact figures here because none of the sources list them.[1][4]

  • Flux Hammer: takes items from an inventory above it and puts the outputs into an inventory in front of it.[4]
  • Flux Sieve: takes items from its internal inventory and puts the outputs into an inventory below it. You can enchant meshes with Fortune in an anvil to increase drop chances.[4]
  • Flux Compactor: takes items from its internal inventory and puts the outputs into an inventory below it.[4]

All three machines share some behavior. Upgrades increase the number of items processed at once, and a redstone signal disables the block. You can change the output side by shift + right-clicking the machine with an Ex Nihilo hammer.[4]

Tip: The Hammer is the odd one out. It pulls from above and outputs to its front, while the Sieve and Compactor use their internal inventory and output downward. Plan your chests and pipes around that, and use the hammer click to change the output side if the default doesn't fit your layout.[4]

Item Buffer

The Item Buffer is a logistics block. It takes items from its internal inventory and moves them into an inventory below it, and it tries to move everything in the inventory each cycle. Unlike the other machines, it needs no power. Upgrades increase its cycle speed. A redstone signal disables it, and the output side can be changed with the same Ex Nihilo hammer shift + right-click.[4]

Upgrades

Upgrades go into the machines to speed them up. On the Flux machines they raise the number of items processed at once. On the Item Buffer they raise the cycle speed. The pack has a Gold Upgrade and a Diamond Upgrade, and the mod's advancements also mention a Netherite Upgrade.[4]

Unverified The sources don't say how much each upgrade tier (Gold, Diamond, Netherite) improves a machine, how many upgrades fit in one machine, or how the Netherite Upgrade is crafted. Check in-game with JEI before you plan around specific numbers. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Redstone control with the Comparator Upgrade

The Comparator Upgrade lets the Item Buffer produce a redstone signal in a particular direction. You can use that signal to turn off other machines. To set the direction, sneak + right-click a block with the upgrade, and the output direction becomes the face you clicked.[4]

Unverified The sources don't say what condition makes the Comparator Upgrade emit its signal, or whether the Flux machines accept it. The only documented use is on the Item Buffer. The pack also has no config files for this mod, so there is nothing to tweak in the machine speeds or RF costs.

How do you progress through Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum?

3 parts

Ex Machinis is the automation side of the Ex Deorum sieving and hammering loop. In this pack, its progression sits in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts, and it unlocks after you finish the Skyblock Automation quest. From there it splits into two machines, then a shared upgrade step.[3]

Tier 1: Flux Hammer and Flux Sieve

The two starter machines are Flux Hammer and Flux Sieve. You can do their quests in either order, because both only need Skyblock Automation to be done.[3]

The "Flux Hammer" quest quest covers the hammer. It hammers items automatically and uses Energy instead of durability. You need an inventory on its open output side to receive the results. The quest also suggests placing a sieve behind it, so the gravel it makes goes straight into the sieve.[3]

The "Flux Sieve" quest quest covers the sieve, which has three requirements. It needs Energy, a mesh (the mesh type decides what items you get), and an inventory beneath it for output. It accepts input from any side. Feed blocks in and the resources land in the inventory below.[3]

Tier 2: Flux Upgrades

The "Flux Upgrades" quest quest unlocks after both machine quests. Its tasks are the Gold Upgrade and the Diamond Upgrade. The quest says both the Flux Sieve and the Flux Hammer can take upgrades, which increase how quickly they work and how many items they process.[3]

The quest says you can stack up to 3 of each upgrade, and the more you have, the better the machine performs.[3]

How does Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum work with other mods?

4 parts

Ex Machinis is an automation addon for Ex Deorum, so nearly all of its connections run through that mod. It adds RF-powered machines that take over the hammering and sieving you would otherwise do by hand.[1]

Ex Deorum: the Flux Hammer

The link to Ex Deorum is built into the crafting. The Flux Hammer uses Ex Deorum's Diamond Hammer as its base item, so you need to make that hammer first. It also needs a Hopper.[5]

Flux HammerMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

any glass panesDiamond Hammerany glass panes
any iron storage blockHopperany iron storage block

Recipe id: exmachinis:flux_hammer

The glass panes and the iron storage block in this recipe accept any matching type from the tags.

Once it's built, the Flux Hammer hammers items for you. It uses energy instead of durability. Put an inventory behind the machine, on the open output side, and the hammered blocks go straight into it.[3]

You can also place a sieve behind the hammer, so the gravel it produces goes into the sieve automatically. The quest "Flux Hammer" quest covers this. It sits in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts, right after Skyblock Automation.[3]

The Flux Sieve

The Flux Sieve is the automated version of sieving. The quest "Flux Sieve" quest lists three requirements: energy, an inventory beneath it for output, and a mesh. The type of mesh decides which items you get from sieving. Blocks can be fed in from any side.[3]

Upgrades

Both machines accept upgrades, such as the Gold Upgrade and Diamond Upgrade. They make the machines work faster and process more items. You can stack up to 3 of each, and more is better. The quest "Flux Upgrades" quest covers this and comes after the Flux Hammer and Flux Sieve quests.[3]

Power

Ex Machinis does not generate power itself, so you need another mod to supply the RF its machines run on.[1]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum?

2 parts

In this pack, everything for this mod lives in one place: Chapter 2: The Cool Parts. There are three quests, and they follow a simple order. You start with the two machines, then move on to upgrading them.[3]

Step 1: the two machines

Both "Flux Hammer" quest and "Flux Sieve" quest unlock after the Skyblock Automation quest. You can do them in either order, since neither one depends on the other.[3]

  • "Flux Hammer" quest asks you to obtain the Flux Hammer. It hammers items automatically and uses Energy instead of Durability. It needs an inventory behind it on the open output side to push results out, and you can also put a sieve behind it to automatically sieve the gravel it makes.[3]
  • "Flux Sieve" quest asks you to obtain the Flux Sieve. It needs Energy, an inventory beneath it for output, and a Mesh. The type of Mesh decides which items you get from sieving. Input can come from any side.[3]

Step 2: upgrades

"Flux Upgrades" quest unlocks once you have finished both the Flux Hammer and Flux Sieve quests. It asks for the Gold Upgrade and the Diamond Upgrade. Per the quest text, upgrades make the machines work faster and process more items, and you can stack up to 3 of each.[3]

Tip: The quest text suggests using the Flux Hammer with a sieve placed behind it so the gravel goes straight into the sieve. That makes a nice little automated line.[3]

What changed in Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.2.1 ships Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum 4.0.2. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs.[2]

4.0.2

  • You can now right-click meshes into Flux Sieves.[6]

4.0.1

  • The item buffer now tries to transfer its whole inventory each cycle.[7]
  • A new iridium chunk compacting recipe was added.[7]

Both changes are listed in the mod's own changelogs, and 4.0.2 is the version your pack has. I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say whether the pack changed anything else about it.[2][6][7]
