What is Cobblegen Galore?

2 parts

Cobblegen Galore adds generator blocks that make cobblestone and other stone-type blocks for you, so you don't have to mine them by hand. This pack includes version 1.21.1-0.2.9 of the mod.[1][2]

It's aimed at early-game players. You meet the Stone Block Generator in the very first chapter, in the quest "Stone Generator" quest, which unlocks after the Lava and Water quests. That makes it one of the first automation tools you'll set up.[2]

How it works in this pack

If you played ATM9TTS, you may remember generators that just dropped cobble into an inventory above them. These work a bit differently. You still need an inventory above the generator to collect the blocks. To get it running, you also need a lava source and a water source on 2 of its sides, and then it starts making cobble.[2]

To get other blocks such as andesite or even obsidian, place that block under the generator. The quest points you to JEI for the full list of recipes. You can also upgrade the generators, and the upgrades make them faster.[2]

Where it fits in progression

In Chapter 2, The Cool Parts, the quest "Automating Andesite" quest has you automate andesite. You build the generator as normal and put an andesite block beneath it, and it makes andesite instead of cobble. The quest asks you to bring the generator, a water bucket, a lava bucket and andesite.[3]

Tip: Not sure what a generator can produce? Open JEI and look up its recipes. The quests recommend this, and the block you place underneath decides the output.[2]

How do you get started with Cobblegen Galore?

3 parts

Your first build in this pack is the Stone Block Generator. It's the very first thing the Cobblegen Galore quests ask for: see "Stone Generator" quest in the first quest chapter, which comes after the Lava and Water quests. The pack adds this recipe itself, so what you see below is the exact in-pack version.[2][4]

Added by the pack. It takes a lava bucket and a water bucket, and any bucket from those tags works.

Setting it up

If you've played ATM9TTS, you may remember generator blocks that just made cobble in an inventory above them. These work a bit differently, so follow the steps in order.[2]

  1. Place the generator and put an inventory above it. That's where the generated blocks get collected.[2]
  2. Put a lava source on one side of the generator and a water source on another side. It needs both, on 2 of its sides, before it starts making cobble.[2]
  3. If you want something other than cobble, place the block you want underneath the generator. Andesite and even obsidian are possible, and JEI shows more recipes.[2]

Automating andesite

Andesite gets its own quest, "Automating Andesite" quest, in the chapter called The Cool Parts. Build the generator as usual, but put an andesite block beneath it and it makes andesite instead of cobble. No more picking up pebbles by hand.[3]

Upgrading for speed

Once your first generator is running, you can upgrade it. The upgrades just speed the generators up.[2]

The upgrade path goes Stone, then Copper Block Generator, Iron Block Generator, Gold Block Generator, Emerald Block Generator, Diamond Block Generator and finally Netherite Block Generator. Each tier is crafted from the generator one step below it, and the pack adds all of these recipes. Here's the first upgrade, copper:[4]

First upgrade: the Stone Block Generator becomes the Copper Block Generator.

Tip: Every generator recipe in the pack also takes a lava bucket and a water bucket, and any bucket from the lava and water bucket tags counts. Check the recipe before each upgrade.[4]

How does Cobblegen Galore work?

2 parts

Cobblegen Galore is built around a family of tiered generator blocks. In order, they are the Stone Block Generator, Copper Block Generator, Iron Block Generator, Gold Block Generator, Emerald Block Generator, Diamond Block Generator and Netherite Block Generator.[4][5]

The sources for this mod only cover these blocks and how you craft them in this pack, so this section sticks to that.[4][5]

The upgrade ladder

Every generator recipe in this pack is added by the pack's scripts, so these are the pack's recipes, not necessarily the mod's defaults. They form a ladder: you start with the Stone tier, then craft each next tier from the generator one step below it, all the way up to Netherite.[4]

Here is the entry point, the Stone Block Generator:[4]

From there you climb one tier at a time. Each recipe below is shown in the pack's exact form.[4]

Tip: Because each tier is crafted from the previous generator, you can't skip ahead. Plan to build every generator in order on your way to the Netherite tier.[4]

Source blocks

The mod's recipe viewer entries carry the label "Source block is consumed", so keep an eye out for that line when you look up one of its recipes.[5]

How do you progress through Cobblegen Galore?

2 parts

Cobblegen Galore in this pack is a straight upgrade ladder. You start with the Stone Block Generator and work your way up through six more generators, ending at the Netherite Block Generator. The pack added every one of these crafting recipes itself, so what you see in JEI is the in-pack truth.[4]

Where the quests start you off

The first stop is the quest "Stone Generator" quest in Chapter 1. It unlocks after the Lava and Water quests, and it asks you to get a Stone Block Generator. If you remember the Stone Generator blocks from ATM9TTS, these work differently.[2]

You still need an inventory above the generator to collect the blocks. To make it run, put a lava source and a water source on 2 of its sides, and it starts making cobble. For other blocks, place the block you want under the generator. The quest points you to JEI for the full list of recipes.[2]

In Chapter 2, "Automating Andesite" quest shows the trick in action. Build the generator as usual, but put an Andesite block beneath it and it makes andesite instead of cobble.[3]

The Stone Block Generator is the starting tier and the base for the whole ladder.

The tier ladder

Each tier is crafted from the generator of the tier below it, so you can't skip ahead. The order is Stone, Copper, Iron, Gold, Emerald, Diamond, Netherite.[4]

  1. Stone: Stone Block Generator, the entry tier from the quests.[2][4]
  2. Copper: Copper Block Generator, upgraded from the Stone generator.[4]
  3. Iron: Iron Block Generator, upgraded from the Copper generator.[4]
  4. Gold: Gold Block Generator, upgraded from the Iron generator.[4]
  5. Emerald: Emerald Block Generator, upgraded from the Gold generator.[4]
  6. Diamond: Diamond Block Generator, upgraded from the Emerald generator.[4]
  7. Netherite: Netherite Block Generator, upgraded from the Diamond generator.[4]

Here is the first upgrade, so you can see the pattern.[4]

Tip: The Stone Generator quest says upgrading a generator only speeds it up. The setup stays the same: an inventory above, lava and water on the sides, and the target block underneath.[2]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Cobblegen Galore?

3 parts

Cobblegen Galore shows up in a quest in Chapter 1 and another in Chapter 2. You meet the generator early, then come back to it in the next chapter to automate a new block.[2][3]

Chapter 1: Starting out

The first one is "Stone Generator" quest. It unlocks after the Lava and Water quests, and its task is to get a Stone Block Generator.[2]

The quest text says this generator works differently from the Stone Generator Blocks in ATM9TTS. You still need an inventory above the generator to collect the blocks. To get it running, put a lava source and a water source on 2 of its sides, and it starts making cobble.[2]

To make other blocks, such as andesite or even obsidian, place those blocks under the generator. The quest points you to JEI for more recipes. It also says you can upgrade the generators, and the upgrades just speed them up.[2]

Chapter 2: The Cool Parts

The second is "Automating Andesite" quest, which comes after the quest called The Cool Parts. Its tasks ask for the Stone Block Generator, a Water Bucket, a Lava Bucket and Andesite.[3]

The idea is to build the generator like normal, but place an andesite block beneath it. It then makes andesite instead of cobble, so you can stop picking up pebbles.[3]

Suggested order

  1. Finish the Lava and Water quests, then complete Stone Generator in Chapter 1 to get your first generator running on cobble.[2]
  2. Move on to The Cool Parts in Chapter 2, then complete Automating Andesite by placing andesite under the generator.[3]
