What is JourneyMap?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.51 guide
JourneyMap is a real-time mapping mod: as you explore, it draws your world into a map you can check without ever leaving the game. You get a minimap in the corner of your screen, a full-screen map you can pan around, and the option to view the same map in a web browser while you play.[1]
It's a client-and-server mod, but the mapping itself happens on your client. The server side exists so server owners can control which JourneyMap features are allowed, and no mapping is done on the server. That means JourneyMap has to be present on the client for anything to show up at all.[1]
Both sides are optional, so you can connect to servers that don't have JourneyMap installed, and players without it can still join servers that do. In practice you can just play with it and not worry about who else has it.[1]
Where it fits in this pack
The pack ships the NeoForge build of JourneyMap, and it has been bundled since well before this release, so it's a long-standing part of the kit rather than a recent addition.[2]
There's no progression to unlock here. JourneyMap is a quality-of-life mod that works from your first minute in the world, and it isn't tied to any quest line or to the ATM Star path. Treat it as a utility you lean on constantly while you chase the goals of other mods: finding your way back to a base, marking a structure you want to return to, or scouting for a biome another mod needs.[1][2]
Unverified Specific keybinds, waypoint controls and any pack-side tweaks to JourneyMap's configuration could not be confirmed from the available sources for this pack version.
How do you get started with JourneyMap?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Good news: JourneyMap doesn't ask you to craft anything to get going. It maps your world in real time as you explore, so load in and start walking around.[1]
Your first steps
- Explore. JourneyMap maps your Minecraft world as you move, and you can view the result in-game as a minimap or full-screen map.[1]
- Check the hot keys. The mod has an option that shows you the hot keys you can use with the map, so look there before hunting through the vanilla controls.[3]
- Try the web map. The same map can be opened in a web browser, which is handy if you want a second screen for navigation.[1]
About the web map port
The web map uses a default port, and you can set it to a value between 80 and 10000. If that port is already in use, JourneyMap tries to find an open one by increments of 10.[3]
Good to know early
- JourneyMap has to be on the client for anything to be displayed. At the moment the server side is only for controlling JourneyMap features, and no mapping is done on the server.[1]
- If the game runs rough, the mod's options say that turning off always-map-caves and always-map-surface improves performance.[3]
- Lower cache and refresh delays in the advanced options can hurt performance, so leave them alone unless you have a reason to change them.[3]
How does JourneyMap work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Here's the honest part first: JourneyMap isn't a machine mod. The sources describe it purely as a real-time mapping tool, and they say nothing about machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. So this section covers how the mapping itself works and which settings affect it.[1]
Client and server roles
JourneyMap is a client+server mod for Forge, Fabric and Quilt. It maps your world in real time as you explore, and you can view that map in a web browser or in-game, either as a minimap or full-screen.[1]
The mapping happens on your client. The server side of the mod only controls JourneyMap features from the server and does no mapping, so JourneyMap has to be installed on your client or nothing will be displayed. Clients can also join servers that don't have the mod, and clients without it can join servers that do.[1]
Viewing the map in your browser
The web map uses a default port, and you can enter a value between 80 and 10000. If that port is already in use, JourneyMap tries to find an open one by increments of 10.[3]
How the map is drawn
The map has several views. The auto map type rotates between day, night and cave if the matching show options are checked. There are also night-only and topography-only types. Map styles add extras such as a biome map, a topography contour map that shows elevation changes, and bathymetry, which shows the ocean floor and underwater terrain.[3]
Cave mapping has its own controls. One option always maps the caves in your vertical chunk, even when you're on the Overworld surface. Another always maps the surface, even when you're underground. Disabling either improves performance. A threshold option sets how many blocks it takes to switch to cave mode, which stops the map flipping when you walk into a house.[3]
AutoMap and zoomed-out tiles
AutoMap works through region tasks, and there's a delay setting between them. Lower values make AutoMap finish sooner but can hurt performance. Automapping all layers takes significantly more time and uses more disk space, so use it with caution.[3]
When you're zoomed out, the map can use LOD (level-of-detail) tile rendering. Turning it off and saving deletes the LOD cache files from disk. There are also dialogs to invalidate the zoom LODs, either for the current dimension or for the whole world.[3]
Caching and performance
JourneyMap caches several kinds of data so it doesn't recheck them constantly. Radar data for animals, mobs, players and villagers each has its own cache duration in milliseconds, and so does your own status data. A separate setting controls how often the map draw steps (radar entities and waypoints) are rebuilt. For all of these, lower values refresh faster but can hurt performance.[3]
Multiplayer map separation
Two experimental options help keep maps from overwriting each other on multi-world server setups: one uses the world seed and the other uses the server IP address when saving data. Both only take effect after you rejoin the server.[3]
Unverified The pack's own JourneyMap settings and any changed defaults could not be checked, because no config files for this mod were available. Treat the behaviour above as the mod's general behaviour, not confirmed pack values.
What changed in JourneyMap between versions?
3 parts
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships JourneyMap 1.21.1-6.0.7. The mod was first included in All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[4]
1.21.1-6.0.7
This is the version in the pack now. Its changelog is dated 2026-08-29 and the fixes are both about teleporting.[4][5]
- The teleport dropdown was missing from the server admin settings. That's fixed.[5]
- Teleporting was blocked for creative and singleplayer players when the server teleport option was set to Ops. That's fixed too.[5]
1.21.1-6.0.2
The 6.0.2 changelog is dated 2026-07-27 and is mostly about addon overlays on the minimap.[6]
- Auto-Map performance issues were fixed.[6]
- Addon marker icons are now centred exactly within their block at every minimap zoom level.[6]
- Addon overlays could appear a moment late after you switched dimension, switched map type, or toggled a layer. That's fixed.[6]
- Individual addon claim polygons could blink out on the minimap while neighbouring ones stayed visible. That's fixed.[6]
- Addon marker icons and labels weren't clipped to the minimap edge and could spill outside it. That's fixed.[6]
- Addon overlays could be missing from the minimap after you closed the fullscreen map while standing still. That's fixed.[6]
- Addon marker, image and polygon overlays leaked textures when removed or replaced. That's fixed.[6]
- A replaced addon overlay could briefly flicker when the minimap and fullscreen map were both active. That's fixed.[6]
- Theme border issues were fixed, and so was an entity texture being used as a raw map icon.[6]
6.0.0 and its betas
The 6.0.0 release and several of its beta builds have no changelog text, so there's nothing to report on what changed in them.[7][8][9][10]
