What is Luminax?

2 parts

Luminax is a small decoration mod that adds a handful of simple, single-colored glowing blocks to the game. If you build bases and want clean, bright blocks without a lot of fuss, this is the mod for you.[1]

It's similar to AntiblocksReChiseled, but it isn't a fork or copy. The mod page says it's 100% original code. It was made to replace Antiblocks in All the Mods 10, and it can be used freely in any pack.[1]

What you get

The mod page calls this the currently included set, so it's a small, focused block palette rather than a big content mod.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Luminax 1.3.1 (the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1), and it has been included since this pack version or earlier.[2]

Unverified No quests and no ATM Star path entries were found for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Where it fits in progression, and how its blocks are crafted in this pack, is unconfirmed. Check the recipe viewer in-game for the exact recipes. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Luminax?

3 parts

Luminax adds a handful of simple, single-colored glowing blocks. The mod's full list is a full block, slab, stair, wall, pressure plate and button. Getting started is just making the full block in the color you want, then crafting the other shapes from it.[1][3]

Make a full block

Every other Luminax piece is crafted from the full block of the same color, so this comes first. Below is the black one as an example. Blue, brown, cyan and the other colors each have their own block recipe, so swap the color to get the one you want.[3]

Try the dim variants

Colors also come in a Dim version, such as Dim Black Luminax Block. In this pack the dim blocks use a different recipe from the regular ones, so check the recipe below before you gather materials.[3]

Craft the other shapes

Once you have a full block, you can turn it into the other pieces. Each of these is crafted from the full block of the same color. Here are the black versions as an example.[3]

Tip: Each shape needs the full block of its own color and variant. If you want a build to match, make the full block first in the color and variant (regular or dim) you want, then craft every shape from that one.[3]

How does Luminax work?

2 parts

Here's the honest answer for this one: the mod's project page lists only blocks, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to learn. Luminax describes itself as a bunch of simple glowing blocks, so the "mechanics" are really just what you can craft.[1]

What the mod adds

The mod adds a handful of single-colored blocks. These are the block types the project page lists as currently included:[1]

The pack's recipe list shows these shapes for several colors, for example black, blue, brown and cyan. There are also "Dim" versions such as Dim Black Luminax Block and Dim Blue Luminax Block. The recipe list I have is truncated, so I can't confirm the full list of colors.[3]

How crafting works

Everything starts with the full block of a color. Here is the in-pack recipe for Black Luminax Block. The other bright colors in the recipe list follow the same pattern with their matching dye.[3]

Crafting Shaped

Every other shape is made from the matching full block of the same color. The slab, stairs, wall and pressure plate use shaped recipes, and the button is a shapeless recipe. Here are the black slab and button as examples.[3]

Tip: Luminax was made to serve as a replacement for Antiblocks in All the Mods 10. It is similar to AntiblocksReChiseled, but it is not a fork or copy: the project page says it is 100% original code.[1]

How do you progress through Luminax?

4 parts

Luminax has no tiers to climb in this pack. The quest book calls it "a very simple Mod": colored lights, each a single color with no texturing, in shapes like stairs, slabs and pressure plates. So progression here is about where you pick it up and which family of blocks you craft.[4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The Luminax quest "Luminax" quest is in the Building Tips chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 in the book. It comes straight after "Colored Blocks" quest, which follows "Blocks!" quest, which in turn follows the chapter's opening "Building Tips!" quest quest.[4]

Several other quests also hang off Colored Blocks: Dyenamics "Dyenamics" quest, Chipped Concrete, Chipped Wool, Chipped Terracotta, Plastic Construction Bricks and Railcraft Colored Blocks. The Luminax quest text says the blocks even work with Dyenamics.[4]

The two block families

The recipe dump shows two crafting routes for the base blocks, and each craft gives 4 blocks. The regular family has no prefix, like Black Luminax Block. The dim family is a separate set of blocks, like Dim Black Luminax Block. Each family has its own base recipe for every color.[3]

Recoloring

You don't have to start from scratch to change a color. Each color in both families has a recoloring recipe that takes a dye plus a block from that family's group and makes 8 blocks of the new color. The regular and dim families stay separate, because each recipe uses its own block group.[3]

Shapes

Once you have a base block, you can turn it into other shapes. For the regular colors shown in the dump (black, blue, brown and cyan), a block becomes 6 slabs, 4 stairs or 6 walls, and there are also button and pressure plate recipes. For dim black, the dump shows slab and pressure plate recipes. Across the mod there are 32 button recipes.[3]

Tip: Craft base blocks in one color you like, then use the recoloring recipes to spread that stock across other colors in the same family. Each recoloring craft makes 8 blocks.[3]

Which All the Mons quests use Luminax?

3 parts

Luminax only shows up in one place in the quest book: the "Building Tips" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 and holds 63 quests. It's a building chapter, so the Luminax quest is about decorating, not progression.[4]

The path to the Luminax quest

  1. Start with "Building Tips!" quest, the chapter opener. It's a tips quest for building in a modpack where you're free to build however you like.[4]
  2. Next is "Blocks!" quest, which asks you to get a block. Any block counts.[4]
  3. Then comes "Colored Blocks" quest. It's about adding color to your builds, and it tells you to start with the dyes.[4]
  4. Finally there's "Luminax" quest, which unlocks once Colored Blocks is done. It's an item task.[4]

What the Luminax quest says

The quest calls Luminax a very simple mod: if you like colored lights, you can have colored lights. They are all one color with no texturing. They come in different shapes, such as stairs, slabs and even pressure plates. The quest also says they work with Dyenamics.[4]

That Dyenamics mention has its own quest on the same branch: "Dyenamics" quest. It says Dyenamics adds 18 more dyes on top of Minecraft's 16, usable for the same items and blocks as the normal ones.[4]

Other quests on the same branch

Luminax isn't alone after Colored Blocks. The same quest also leads to "Chipped Concrete" quest, "Plastic Construction Bricks" quest, "Railcraft Colored Blocks" quest, "Chipped Wool" quest and "Chipped Terracotta" quest. If you're decorating with color, this is the part of the chapter to browse.[4]

Tip: Do Dyenamics before or alongside Luminax if you want more than the standard 16 colors for your lights, since the Luminax quest says the two work together.[4]
