What is Farming for Blockheads?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide

Farming for Blockheads is all about getting your farm supplies the easy way. Its centerpiece is the Market, which gives you a villager who can sell you anything, as long as you have the right amount of emeralds.[1]

Here's the good news: it's usually just 1 emerald per item, and the Market's villager has pretty much everything. If you'd rather trade emeralds than hunt down farming basics yourself, this mod is for you.[1]

Where it fits in this pack

You'll find this mod in the Food and Farming quest chapter. The quest "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest asks you to get a Market, and it unlocks after the quest Mary had a Little Lamb.[1]

Tip: Keep some emeralds handy once your Market is placed. Most items usually cost just 1 emerald each.[1]

This pack runs Farming for Blockheads version 21.1.11 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

Unverified Could not confirm for this pack exactly which items the Market sells or what else the mod adds. Open the Market in game to see its full selection.

How do you get started with Farming for Blockheads?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Farming for Blockheads in this pack starts with one block: the Market. Both quest chapters that cover this mod ask you to get one, so it is the first thing to make.[3][4]

Step 1: Craft the Market

The Market provides a villager that can sell you anything if you have the right amount of emeralds. The quest "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest says it's usually just 1 Emerald per item.[3]

It also brings back the passive mobs. The quest a quest in "?" says you get them back for a price in the Market.[4]

Step 2: Make fertilizer

Next, look at fertilizer for your crops. Green Fertilizer increases crop output, and the mod has a setting for the chance of a bonus crop with it. Red Fertilizer has a setting for the chance of a bonus growth. Fertilized Farmland can turn back into regular Farmland, so expect to reapply it.[6]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for Green and Red Fertilizer. It also changed the Market's offers for Green, Red and Yellow Fertilizer. The Yellow Fertilizer crafting recipe is the mod's own.[5]

        Next: Automate your animals

Once you have animals, the Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens. It picks up laid eggs within a range, and the mod has a setting for that range.[5][6]

The Feeding Trough auto-feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate. It has a configurable range, and it stops feeding once the maximum number of animals per type is reached.[5][6]

Tip: In the quest book, the Market appears in the Food and Farming chapter right after the quest Mary had a Little Lamb, and in the CobbleWorkers & Farming chapter after Cobble Workers and Poke Farming. Follow either chapter and you will reach it naturally.[3][4]

How does Farming for Blockheads work?

        5 parts

Farming for Blockheads is a small mod built around four blocks and items you place in your farm: the Market, the Chicken Nest, the Feeding Trough and three fertilizers. Nothing here needs power or fluids. Everything works by placing a block and letting it do its job.[6][7]

        The Market

The Market has its own screen. It shows a cost for the selected entry and says "No Selection" until you pick something. A Merchant entity also exists in the mod, and it can be given a name from a configurable list of names.[6]

What the Market sells is controlled by groups. The built-in default groups are seeds, saplings and the Minecraft fertilizers. The mod has options to include groups, exclude groups (exclusion wins over inclusion), and to turn default or optional presets on or off. For example, excluding the seeds group would remove every seed from the Market. This pack has no config file for the mod, so I can't tell you which groups or presets are changed here.[6]

        Recipe id: farmingforblockheads:market

The pack also adds Market entries for all three fertilizers. The recipe dump marks each one as changed by the pack, and shows no item inputs for them. The Market prices themselves are not listed in the sources.[7]

        Chicken Nest

The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens. It picks up laid eggs within a certain range, and that range is a config option. The pack's value is not confirmed.[6]

        Recipe id: farmingforblockheads:chicken_nest

        Feeding Trough

The Feeding Trough automatically feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate. Two config options shape it: the range in which animals can be fed, and a maximum number of animals (counted per type) after which the trough stops feeding. This is handy for breeding, because it stops a crowded pen from growing forever. The pack's actual values are not confirmed.[6]

        Fertilizers and Fertilized Farmland

Fertilizer turns normal farmland into Fertilized Farmland. The mod has healthy, rich and stable variants of this block, and all of them show up as "Fertilized Farmland" in game.[6]

        • Green Fertilizer increases crop output. A config option sets the chance of a bonus crop.[6]
        • Red Fertilizer gives a chance of bonus growth. A config option sets that chance.[6]
        • Each time the farmland provides a bonus, there is a chance it turns back into regular Farmland. A config option sets that regression chance.[6]

Unverified What Yellow Fertilizer does, and how the healthy, rich and stable farmland variants relate to each fertilizer, is not explained in the available sources. The pack's chance values are not confirmed either.

The pack changed the crafting recipes for Green Fertilizer and Red Fertilizer, and each craft makes 4. Yellow Fertilizer's crafting recipe is the mod's own, and it also makes 4.[7]

        Merchant tweak

There is one more option for merchants: when it is on, they count as babies on a technical level only. The mod describes it as a way to resolve exploits based on merchant death loot.[6]

How do you progress through Farming for Blockheads?

        4 parts

In this pack, Farming for Blockheads sits in the "Food and Farming" quest chapter. One quest asks for the Market: "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest. It comes after the sheep and wool quests, so you reach it through the animal-handling part of the chapter.[8]

The quest path to the Market

        1. Start with "We're doing this the Old Fashioned way" quest, which asks for a Lead. The quest says it's for getting animals into your farm area.[8]
        2. Next is "It's Clippin' Time" quest, where you get Shears so you can shear sheep.[8]
        3. Then "Mary had a Little Lamb" quest, where you gather some Wool.[8]
        4. Finally "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest, which asks you to get the Market.[8]

The quest describes the Market as giving you a villager who sells things for emeralds. It says the price is usually 1 Emerald per item.[8]

        Tier 1: the Market

The Market uses the mod's own crafting recipe. The pack hasn't changed it.[7]

        Tier 2: fertilizers

The fertilizers come in green, red and yellow: Green Fertilizer, Red Fertilizer and Yellow Fertilizer. Each crafting recipe makes 4. The pack changed the green and red recipes, but the yellow one is the mod's own.[7]

              Tier 3: animal helpers

The Chicken Nest and the Feeding Trough both use the mod's own recipes. The Food and Farming chapter has no quest that asks for either of them.[7][8]

Which All the Mons quests use Farming for Blockheads?

              2 parts

In this pack, Farming for Blockheads shows up in one quest, and it sits in the Food and Farming chapter ("Food and Farming" quest). That chapter has 35 quests about growing and making food. The rest of them cover vanilla farming, fishing rods, Silent Gear flax and the Cooking for Blockheads kitchen.[8]

              Purchasing Farm Supplies

The quest is "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest, and it asks you to hand in a Market. The quest text says the Market gives you a villager who can sell you anything, as long as you have the right amount of emeralds. It also says the price is usually just 1 emerald per item.[8]

The path that leads to it

This quest is at the end of the animal branch. The chain starts with "We're doing this the Old Fashioned way" quest, which asks for a lead to get animals into your farm area. Next is "It's Clippin' Time" quest, where the text says you need Shears to get wool from sheep. After that comes "Mary had a Little Lamb" quest, which asks you to gather wool. Finishing that unlocks the Market quest.[8]

              1. "We're doing this the Old Fashioned way" quest: bring a lead.[8]
              2. "It's Clippin' Time" quest: get Shears so you can shear sheep.[8]
              3. "Mary had a Little Lamb" quest: gather wool.[8]
              4. "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest: hand in the Market.[8]

In the chapter's listing, no other quest names the Market quest as its prerequisite, so it ends this branch.[8]
