What is Cooking for Blockheads?
2 parts
Cooking for Blockheads turns your cooking into a multi-block kitchen. The pack ships version 21.1.24 of the mod. If you like building a proper kitchen instead of crafting food one item at a time, this mod is for you.[1][2]
The heart of it is the Cooking Table. It shows every recipe you can make with the food in your inventory or stored in the kitchen multi-block.[2]
How the quest line introduces it
The Food and Farming chapter walks you through it in order. It starts with "Making a Kitchen, with a Book" quest, which asks for Cooking for Blockheads I. Next comes "Cooking with the power of Diamonds" quest, where you craft Cooking for Blockheads II. The quest says it gives a Diamond back. After that, "THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD" quest asks for the Cooking Table.[2]
Once you have the Cooking Table, the quests open up several kitchen parts, and each one needs only that quest finished first:[2]
- Sink: supplies water to the kitchen, and can also provide infinite water by pumping it out through cables or pipes.[2]
- Ice Unit: provides Ice and Snow recipes.[2]
- Heating Unit: lets you attach power to the Stove.[2]
- Oven: enables smelting recipes in the kitchen multi-block.[2]
- Kitchen Counter: stores items for cooking. Other kitchen items, like toasters and a Cow in a Jar, can sit on top of it.[2]
- Cow in a Jar: produces milk over time and enables milk recipes for the kitchen.[2]
- Kitchen Cabinet: works like the counter, but you can't put things on top of it.[2]
Beyond cooking: the Sink as a water source
The Sink is useful well outside the kitchen. The quest "Water Coolant" quest in the Mekanism: Reactors chapter hands it to you as a water supply for your reactors. The quest says it has infinite water and can be piped out from practically any mod.[3]
The Tips and Poke Tricks chapter points the same way in "Infinite Water" quest. It calls the Sink an easy way to automate infinite water, and says that if you need more water you can just make another.[4]
Unverified The sources don't show this mod on the ATM Star quest path, so don't count on it as part of that route.
How do you get started with Cooking for Blockheads?
6 parts
Cooking for Blockheads builds a multi-block kitchen. Everything starts with a recipe book, and the pack's Food and Farming quest chapter walks you through it in a sensible order. Here is the path I'd follow.[2]
Smelt your first book
The first quest is "Making a Kitchen, with a Book". You turn a plain vanilla book into Cooking for Blockheads I by smelting it in a furnace. That book shows you the food you can make right now.[2][5][6]
Upgrade to the second book
Next, upgrade to Cooking for Blockheads II, the next version of the book. Its tooltip describes it as letting you craft food with what you have available, and the Cooking Table recipe in this pack uses it.[2][5][6]

Place the Cooking Table
The Cooking Table is the heart of the kitchen. It shows every recipe you can make with the food in your inventory or stored in the kitchen multi-block. In the quest book, the sink, oven, counter, cabinet, Ice Unit, Heating Unit and Cow in a Jar quests all come after this one, so make it early.[2][5]

Add the Sink
The Sink supplies water to the kitchen. It also gives infinite water, which you can pump out with cables or pipes. That is why other quest chapters in the pack point you to it as a water source, including for reactor coolant.[2][3][4]

Storage and cooking
The Kitchen Counter stores items for cooking, and you can place other kitchen items on top of it. The Kitchen Cabinet works the same way, but it goes on the wall above kitchen blocks, so nothing can sit on top of it.[2][6]

The Cow in a Jar slowly produces milk and enables milk recipes. To fill it, place the jar in a hole, lure a cow into the hole above it, then drop an anvil on the cow.[2][6]
How does Cooking for Blockheads work?
3 parts
Cooking for Blockheads is a kitchen-building mod, and its language file shows how many pieces there are. You get kitchen cabinets, connectors, cooking tables, counters, fridges, ovens, sinks and kitchen floors, almost all in a full range of dye colours. There are also stand-alone blocks: a Cutting Board, Fruit Basket, Spice Rack, Toaster, Tool Rack, Milk Jar and Cow in a Jar.[6]
Several of these have their own screen: the Kitchen Cabinet, Kitchen Counter, Fridge, Cooking Oven, Cooking Table, Cutting Board, Fruit Basket, Spice Rack and Cow in a Jar, plus a Compressed Cow in a Jar. Treat them as things you open and interact with, not just decoration.[6]
Getting the Cooking Table
The Cooking Table is built around a book, and the book line has a few steps. Cooking for Blockheads I comes from a smelting recipe. Cooking for Blockheads II is crafted from the recipe book. The Cooking Table then uses the crafting book.[5]

Colours and floors
Colour variants are made with shapeless crafting. The pack has 112 shapeless recipes that make this mod's items, and the dye recipes take any block from a matching group: cabinets, connectors, cooking tables, counters, fridges or ovens. The black ones show the pattern, and there is a matching recipe that turns a dyed cabinet or connector back into the plain version.[5]

How do you progress through Cooking for Blockheads?
6 parts
In this pack, Cooking for Blockheads is a short, linear chain in the Food and Farming quest chapter. You start with a book, upgrade it, and then unlock the Cooking Table, which opens up the rest of the multi-block kitchen. Each step is a quest, so just follow the questbook.[2]
Tier 1: The first book
The quest "Making a Kitchen, with a Book" quest asks you to get Cooking for Blockheads I. You make it by smelting a book in a furnace, and the quest text says exactly that. The pack also has a smelting recipe that turns Cooking for Blockheads into the same first book.[2][5]
Tier 2: The upgraded book
Next up is "Cooking with the power of Diamonds" quest, where you craft Cooking for Blockheads II. It builds on the first book, and the quest says you get a Diamond back.[2][5]

Tier 3: The Cooking Table
"THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD" quest gives you Cooking Table. It's the core of the multi-block kitchen: it shows every recipe you can make with the food in your inventory or stored in the kitchen multi-block. Every other kitchen quest comes after this one.[2]

Tier 4: Kitchen upgrades
Once you have the Cooking Table, the quests branch out. Each of these follows the Cooking Table quest directly, so do them in whatever order suits your base.[2]
- "The Sink = Infinite Water" quest: the Sink supplies water to the kitchen. It can also provide infinite water by pumping it out through cables or pipes.[2]
- "Ice Upgrade" quest: the Ice Unit provides Ice and Snow recipes.[2]
- "Heating Upgrade" quest: the Heating Unit lets you attach power to the Stove.[2]
- "Honey, there's a Furnace in the Kitchen" quest: the Oven (shown as Oven) enables smelting recipes in your kitchen multi-block.[2]
- "Need more cooking space?" quest: the Kitchen Counter stores items for cooking. You can also place other kitchen items on it, such as toasters and a Cow in a Jar.[2]
- "Even More Storage" quest: the Kitchen Cabinet works like the counter, but you can't put things on top of it.[2]
- "A Cow in a Jar" quest: the Cow in a Jar produces milk over time and enables milk recipes. To get a cow in it, place the jar in a hole, lure a cow to fall in above it, then drop an anvil on the cow.[2]
Here are the in-pack recipes for the upgrades whose recipes appear in the recipe data.[5]

Colors and connectors
The recipe data also includes dyeing recipes for the cooking table, counter, cabinet, sink, oven, connector and fridge, plus dyed kitchen floors. The undyed Kitchen Connector has its own recipe too.[5]
Beyond the kitchen: the Sink as infinite water
The Sink matters outside cooking too. The Mekanism: Reactors chapter has a quest, "Water Coolant" quest, that hands you the Sink as a water source for reactors. The quest says it can be piped out from practically any mod, and that it can be pulled from at a very high rate per tick.[3]
The Tips and Poke Tricks chapter has its own quest, "Infinite Water" quest. It calls the Sink an easy way to automate infinite water and suggests making another if you need more.[4]
How does Cooking for Blockheads work with other mods?
2 parts
This pack ties Cooking for Blockheads into two other things: a set of colored kitchen floors, and the Sink as a water source for Mekanism reactors.[3][4][5]
Colored kitchen floors
The pack adds crafting recipes that turn the plain Kitchen Floor into colored versions. The results come from the dyenamicsandfriends namespace, and each recipe uses a dye of the matching color. Every one of these recipes is marked as added by the pack.[5]
The available colors are Amber, Aquamarine, Bubblegum, Cherenkov, Conifer, Fluorescent, Honey, Icy Blue, Lavender, Maroon, Mint, Navy, Peach, Persimmon, Rose, Spring Green, Ultramarine and Wine. Here is the Amber one as an example.[5]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: dyenamicsandfriends:amber_kitchen_floor
The other colors work the same way, each with its own matching dye.
The colored floors are separate items from the base floor, for example Wine Kitchen Floor and Mint Kitchen Floor.[5]
Mekanism: the Sink as reactor coolant
The Sink is useful outside the kitchen too. The kitchen quest describes it as a block that provides water to the multi-block kitchen and can also provide infinite water by pumping it out via cables or pipes.[2]
The Mekanism: Reactors chapter uses this directly. In "Water Coolant" quest the quest tells you to graduate from Electric Pumps, because the reactors will need more water, and to use the Sink instead. It says the Sink has infinite water and can be piped out from practically any mod. It also recommends using ID if available, because it can pull over 2 Billion mB of water each tick.[3]
The Tips and Poke Tricks chapter repeats the idea in "Infinite Water" quest. It calls the Sink an easy item for automating infinite water and notes it can be used as reactor coolant. If you need more water, the quest says to make another one.[4]
Which All the Mons quests use Cooking for Blockheads?
2 parts
Cooking for Blockheads shows up in three quest chapters in this pack. Most of it is in Food and Farming, where the quests walk you through building the multi-block kitchen. The Sink also turns up as a task in two other chapters, because it gives you infinite water.[2][3][4]
Food and Farming: building the kitchen
This chapter holds the main questline for the mod. It starts with a short chain, and then the kitchen parts all open up at once.[2]
- "Making a Kitchen, with a Book" quest asks you to obtain Cooking for Blockheads I. The quest text jokingly tells you to put the book in a Furnace and smelt it.[2]
- "Cooking with the power of Diamonds" quest comes next and asks for Cooking for Blockheads II, the next version of the book. The quest text says you get a Diamond back.[2]
- "THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD" quest asks for the Cooking Table. It is the heart of the multi-block kitchen and shows every recipe you can make with the food in your inventory or stored in the kitchen.[2]
Once you finish the Cooking Table quest, six quests unlock. You can do them in any order, since each one only requires that quest.[2]
- "The Sink = Infinite Water" quest asks for the Sink. It supplies water to the kitchen and can also provide infinite water by pumping it out through cables or pipes.[2]
- "Ice Upgrade" quest asks for the Ice Unit, which provides Ice and Snow recipes.[2]
- "Heating Upgrade" quest asks for the Heating Unit, which lets you attach power to the Stove.[2]
- "Honey, there's a Furnace in the Kitchen" quest asks for the Oven, which enables smelting recipes in your kitchen multi-block.[2]
- "Need more cooking space?" quest asks for the Kitchen Counter. It stores items for cooking, and you can place other kitchen parts on it, such as toasters and a Cow in a Jar.[2]
- "A Cow in a Jar" quest asks for the Cow in a Jar, which produces milk over time and enables milk recipes. The quest text says to place the jar in a hole, lure a cow into the hole above it, then drop an anvil on the cow.[2]
- "Even More Storage" quest asks for the Kitchen Cabinet. It works like the counter, except it hangs in the air and you can't place things on top of it.[2]
The Sink in other chapters
In the Mekanism: Reactors chapter, "Water Coolant" quest asks for the Sink again, and it unlocks after the Fission Reactor Port quest. The quest text says reactors need more water, and that the Sink has infinite water and can be piped out from practically any mod. It also claims that one pulling setup can move over 2 Billion mB of water each tick. The writer used Electric Pumps for most of the earlier Mekanism quests so the quests would still work in modpacks without Sinks.[3]
The Tips and Poke Tricks chapter has "Infinite Water" quest, which also asks for the Sink. It is described as an easy way to automate infinite water and can be used as reactor coolant. If you need more water, the quest says to make another Sink. This quest has no prerequisite.[4]
