Apothic Attributes is a mod in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2, where it is version 1.3.7. A library that adds the Attributes GUI, alongside a suite of new attributes to work with (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

Stuck? Why it might not be working

  • Apothic Attributes: 100 armour and you still get one-shot
In All the Mods 10 8.2 and five other packs, Apothic Attributes replaces the game's armour formula outright and armour no longer has a floor: at 100 armour you take 9% of a 10-damage hit and 67% of a 400-damage hit, where the old rule held you at 20% of anything. Armor Toughness stops reducing damage at all. Nothing in the game states the formula, and the one line about toughness reads as reassurance.

What is Apothic Attributes?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

This pack ships Apothic Attributes 2.10.1, using the file ApothicAttributes-1.21.1-2.10.1.jar. It was first included in version 0.32 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a good while.[1]

Unverified No guidebook or platform description for Apothic Attributes was available when this guide was written, so what the mod adds in this pack is unconfirmed here. Check the other sections of this guide for any details that could be confirmed.

How do you get started with Apothic Attributes?

3 parts

Good news first: with Apothic Attributes there's no item to craft before you start. It adds no crafting step of its own, so there's no recipe to show here. What it does is give you a much more detailed view of your character's stats and change how some combat maths works, so your first steps are about knowing where to look.[2][3]

Step 1: Check the Attributes GUI is on

In this pack, [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Enable Attributes GUI]] is set to true, so the Attributes screen is available. It's where you read your stats in detail, so make it your first stop.[3]

[[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Hidden Attributes]] controls what the screen leaves out. The pack lists four hidden attributes: forge:nametag_distance, attributeslib:creative_flight, attributeslib:elytra_flight and attributeslib:ghost_health. The pack's file marks this option as changed from the mod default.[3]

Step 2: Learn what the stats mean

Each attribute has a short description in-game. A few worth knowing early: Crit Chance is the chance that damage you deal critically strikes, and Crit Damage is the multiplier on those crits, including vanilla jump crits. Dodge Chance is the chance to dodge a melee attack or a projectile. Life Steal is the percentage of post-mitigation damage that heals you.[2]

On the defence side, Armor Pierce is a flat reduction to the target's armor value, while Armor Shred is a percentage reduction to it. Protection has matching Prot Pierce and Prot Shred attributes.[2]

Step 3: Keep potion tooltips on

[[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Enable Potion Tooltips]] is true in this pack, so potion items get description tooltips. That helps with effects like Bleeding, which inflicts damage every two seconds, and Sundering, which increases damage received.[2][3]

Tip: The pack leaves the combat formulas at the mod's defaults. [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.Armor Formula]] is a / (a + armor), and [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.Protection Formula]] is 1 - min(0.025 * protPoints, 0.85). So if you've played the mod elsewhere, armor and protection will feel familiar, and the vanilla armor formula is not in use.[3]

How does Apothic Attributes work?

4 parts

This mod doesn't work like a tech or machine mod. The sources for it describe a stats and combat system: attributes on you and on mobs, a few status effects, and configurable damage formulas. That's what this section covers, so there's nothing here about power, fluids or automation.[2][3]

Attributes you'll see

Attributes are the numbers behind your character, like health, armor or attack speed. The mod adds descriptions to the vanilla and Forge ones, and adds a batch of its own. These are the offensive ones.[2]

  • Crit Chance is the chance any damage you deal critically strikes. Crit Damage is the multiplier on those hits, and it includes vanilla jump crits.[2]
  • Cold Damage and Fire Damage add bonus magic damage on melee attacks. Cold slows the enemy and fire burns it.[2]
  • Current HP Damage adds bonus physical damage on melee attacks, based on the target's health.[2]
  • Armor Pierce is a flat reduction to the target's armor value. Armor Shred is a percentage reduction to it.[2]
  • Prot Pierce is a flat reduction to the target's protection point total. Prot Shred is a percentage reduction to it.[2]
  • Arrow Damage multiplies arrow damage, and tridents count as arrows. Arrow Velocity multiplies arrow speed, and arrow damage scales with velocity. Draw Speed controls how fast you draw bows, crossbows or tridents.[2]

There are defensive and utility attributes too:[2]

  • Dodge Chance is the chance to dodge a melee attack or a projectile.[2]
  • Life Steal heals you for a percentage of post-mitigation damage. Overheal turns a percentage of post-mitigation damage into an absorption shield.[2]
  • Healing Received multiplies all incoming healing.[2]
  • Experience Gained multiplies the experience you get from breaking blocks and killing mobs. Mining Speed is how fast you mine blocks compared to normal.[2]
  • Creative Flight and Elytra Flight say whether you can fly like in Creative Mode, or as if wearing an Elytra.[2]

How damage reduction is worked out

Armor and protection each have their own formula, and both are set in the config file. Pierce and shred attributes are applied first. Armor Pierce and Armor Shred come before the armor formula, and Prot Pierce and Prot Shred come before the protection formula.[2][3]

The armor calculation has two steps. First, [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.A-Value Formula]] turns the incoming damage into an intermediate value called a. In this pack it is: if(damage < 20, 10, 10 + (damage - 20) / 2). Any attack under 20 damage gives an a of 10, and bigger hits raise it more slowly.[3]

Then [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.Armor Formula]] uses that a. In this pack it is a / (a + armor). The result is the share of damage you still take, from 0 (no damage taken) to 1 (full damage taken). The config notes that the vanilla formula is different, so this is a real change from vanilla armor behaviour. It is the mod's own formula, and the pack leaves it at the mod default.[3]

Protection, which is the enchantment-style damage reduction, uses [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.Protection Formula]]. In this pack it is 1 - min(0.025 * protPoints, 0.85). That gives the share of damage you still take after protection, again from 0 to 1. Each protection point lowers it by 0.025, and the formula caps the reduction at 0.85. The pack also keeps this at the mod default.[3]

All of these formulas are written as math expressions, so a pack maker can rewrite them in the config file. If you ever see armor or protection behaving differently in another pack, check these first.[3]

Tip: Armor Toughness here reduces the effectiveness of enemy armor reduction. The armor formula's config note lists toughness as one of its inputs, alongside a, damage and armor.[2][3]

Effects and damage types

The mod adds several status effects that tie into these attributes:[2]

  • Bleeding inflicts damage every two seconds.[2]
  • Flaming Detonation inflicts damage on expiry, based on the remaining fire ticks.[2]
  • Grievous Wounds decreases healing received, and Bursting Vitality increases it.[2]
  • Sundering increases the damage the target receives.[2]
  • Ancient Knowledge increases experience gained from kills and blocks.[2]
  • Flying grants Creative Flight.[2]

Bleeding, cold damage, fire damage, current HP damage and detonation also have their own death messages. A death from cold reads as being frozen to death, and one from fire as being scorched to death.[2]

The Attributes screen and tooltips

The mod provides an Attributes GUI where you can check your stats. It is switched on in this pack through [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Enable Attributes GUI]]. [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Enable Potion Tooltips]] is also on, so potion items get description tooltips.[3]

[[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Hidden Attributes]] lists attributes that are kept out of that screen. This pack hides four: forge:nametag_distance, attributeslib:creative_flight, attributeslib:elytra_flight and attributeslib:ghost_health. The file marks this option as changed by the pack, but the four entries match the mod's default list, so only the formatting differs. You won't see those four in the GUI even though they may still exist.[3]

Which Apothic Attributes config options matter?

3 parts

These options all live in config/attributeslib.cfg. The pack left nearly all of them at the mod's defaults, so what you mainly need to know is what each option does and where this pack stands on it.[3]

Combat formulas

Apothic Attributes lets the config rewrite how armor and protection reduce damage. The armor and protection formulas return the fraction of damage you still take, from 0 (no damage taken) to 1 (full damage taken). In this pack the combat formulas all match the mod defaults.[3]

  • [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.A-Value Formula]] is set to "if(damage < 20, 10, 10 + (damage - 20) / 2)". It computes an intermediate value that feeds the armor formula: 10 for attacks under 20 damage, and a value that grows with damage above that.[3]
  • [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.Armor Formula]] is set to "a / (a + armor)". It is computed after Armor Pierce and Armor Shred are applied. The file also notes the vanilla formula for comparison.[3]
  • [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#combat_rules.Protection Formula]] is set to "1 - min(0.025 * protPoints, 0.85)". It is computed after Prot Pierce and Prot Shred are applied, and the min() caps the reduction term at 0.85.[3]

GUI and tooltips

  • [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Enable Attributes GUI]] is true, so the Attributes GUI is available. This is the mod default.[3]
  • [[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Enable Potion Tooltips]] is true, so potion items get description tooltips. This is also the mod default.[3]

Hidden attributes

[[config:config/attributeslib.cfg#general.Hidden Attributes]] is the only option the pack's file marks as changed from the mod default. It hides these attributes from the Attributes GUI: forge:nametag_distance, attributeslib:creative_flight, attributeslib:elytra_flight and attributeslib:ghost_health.[3]

The mod default string lists the same attributes, just written in a different format (each entry in square brackets). So the pack's change looks like a rewrite of the list rather than a different set of hidden attributes.[3]

What changed in Apothic Attributes between versions?

Apothic Attributes in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 is version 1.3.7 (the ApothicAttributes-1.20.1-1.3.7.jar file). The mod list shows it was first included in pack version 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a good while.[4]

The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there are no pack-specific changes to report.[4]

Unverified The itemised changes in the mod's own 1.3.7 changelog could not be confirmed from the sources available for this guide, so none are listed here.
