What is Tool Belt?

Tool Belt is part of this pack at version 2.2.10, shipped as the file ToolBelt-1.21.1-2.2.10.jar. It has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

The sources I have for this mod only cover its version and file, so I won't guess at what it does or where the quest book places it. If you want the details, check the mod in game.[1]

How do you get started with Tool Belt?

3 parts

Tool Belt adds the Tool Belt and the Belt Pouch, and this pack changes the crafting recipe for both. If you remember the recipes from another pack or from the mod's defaults, check the ones below instead.[2]

Craft the Tool Belt first

Make the Tool Belt first, since it is the item the mod is named after. This is the pack's own recipe for it:[2]

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: toolbelt:belt

The pack changed this recipe, so it may differ from the mod's default.

Then craft the Belt Pouch

Next, make the Belt Pouch. The pack changed this recipe as well, and the block below shows the exact version in use.[2]

Checking your upgrades

The mod's tooltip includes an Upgrades line that lists the upgrades and shows how many slots they provide. Look there when you want to see what a belt currently has.[3]

How does Tool Belt work?

4 parts

Tool Belt is not a machine or a multiblock. It has no power, fluid or item pipes to set up, and the sources don't describe any. What they do cover is how the belt is controlled with keys, how you make it, and which items the pack lets you put in it. That's what this section walks through.[2][3][4][5]

Controls

The mod adds key bindings under a Tool Belt category in the controls menu: Cycle Tool Left, Cycle Tool Right, Swap Tool and Open Belt Slot Inventory. Check them there and rebind them if they clash with another mod.[3]

The belt's tooltip reads "Upgrades: %s (%s slots)", so it shows its upgrades and its slot count. The sources don't say what the upgrades are or how many slots a belt has by default.[3]

Crafting the belt and pouch

The pack changes both recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here is how you craft the belt:[2]

The Belt Pouch has its own recipe, also changed by the pack:[2]

Config switches

Four options in the common config decide how the belt is made and where it sits. The Sewing Kit options only matter if that mod is installed. Whether it is in this pack isn't confirmed by the sources I have.[4]

  • general.enableGridCraftingRecipes is AUTO in the pack. With AUTO, the belt and pouch crafting recipes are disabled if the Sewing Kit mod is present, and sewing recipes are used instead.[4]
  • general.enableSewingKitSupport is true. Setting it to false turns off sewing recipe support even when the Sewing Kit mod is there.[4]
  • general.anvilUpgrading is AUTO. With AUTO, the crafting and upgrade recipes use the Sewing mechanics if the Sewing Kit mod is present. OFF disables anvil upgrading regardless.[4]
  • general.customBeltSlotMode is ON in the pack. AUTO would disable the belt slot if Curios is present, and OFF disables the belt slot permanently.[4]

What can go in the belt

What the belt accepts is set in the server config. general.allowAllNonStackableItems is true in the pack. If you set it to false, stackable items are no longer allowed by default.[5]

On top of that, the pack uses general.blacklist to block specific items from the belt. The list covers a long run of items from the simplyswords namespace and the backpacks from the sophisticatedbackpacks namespace, from the basic backpack up to the netherite one. If one of those items won't go into your belt, that's why.[5]

general.whitelist is empty in the pack. It force-allows items and takes precedence over the blacklist, so adding an item there overrides a blacklist entry.[5]

Tip: If you run your own server or tweak the pack, the whitelist is the quickest way to let a blacklisted item back into the belt without editing the blacklist itself.[5]

How do you progress through Tool Belt?

3 parts

Tool Belt has no long tier ladder in this pack. The sources show only the Tool Belt and the Belt Pouch as craftable items. The pack has changed the recipes for both, so don't rely on the mod's defaults or on what you remember from other packs.[2]

Step 1: Craft the Tool Belt

The Tool Belt is the base item of the mod. The recipe below is the pack's own version, so follow it rather than any default you know.[2]

Step 2: Craft the Belt Pouch

The Belt Pouch has a pack-changed recipe too, and it takes a different ingot from the belt's recipe. Check the recipe below before you gather materials.[2]

What the sources don't cover

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest that involves Tool Belt, so no quest-guided path for it is confirmed. They also do not say what the Belt Pouch does in this pack or whether it is an upgrade to the Tool Belt, so check those details in-game.

Which Tool Belt config options matter?

3 parts

Tool Belt splits its settings across a client, a common and a server config file in this pack. The client file covers visuals and the radial menu, the common file covers the belt slot and sewing recipes, and the server file covers which items can go on the belt. Here are the options you're most likely to care about and what the pack sets them to.[4][5][6]

Which items fit on the belt (server)

Belt slot and sewing (common)

Display and radial menu (client)

  • display.beltItemScale is 0.5, the same as the mod default, and accepts values from 0.1 to 2.0. It scales the items drawn on the belt.[6]
  • display.showBeltOnPlayers is true, so belts and tools are drawn on players. Set it to false to hide them.[6]
  • menu.releaseToSwap is false, so you need a click to confirm a swap. If you set it to true, releasing the menu key (R) activates the swap instead.[6]
  • menu.displayEmptySlots is false. Set it to true and the radial menu always shows every slot, even empty ones, and lets you choose which empty slot to insert into.[6]
  • menu.clipMouseToCircle and menu.allowClickOutsideBounds are both false. The first, when true, tries to keep your mouse inside the outer circle. The second, when true, lets you click outside the outer circle to activate items.[6]
