What is Sophisticated Core?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Sophisticated Core is included in this pack at version 1.0.5, shipped as the Minecraft 1.21.1 build sophisticatedcore-1.21.1-1.0.5.813.jar. It has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Sophisticated Core does in gameplay, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. They also don't show it on the ATM Star path or tied to any quests, so I'm not making claims about those. Check back once more detail is available.

How do you get started with Sophisticated Core?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Here's the honest starting point for Sophisticated Core in this pack: there is no crafting order to follow. No quests in this pack involve the mod, and no recipes in this pack produce its items, so I can't point you at a first item to craft. What I can do is show you the screen features the mod provides, so you know what to use once you have a backpack or storage from another mod.[2]

Tidy up your inventory

The shared backpack and storage screen has a Sort Inventory button. You can sort by count, by mod, by name or by tags, so pick whichever suits how you like your chests.[2]

There are also buttons to transfer items to your inventory or to the storage. The Matching versions only move items that match what's already on the other side, and the tooltip says to hold Shift to transfer all.[2]

Settings worth checking early

  • Player level settings apply to all your backpacks and storages unless a specific one overrides them, so set your preferences once.[2]
  • Keep Search Phrase decides whether the screen clears your search when you close it or prefills and filters by it next time you open it.[2]
  • Keep Tab Open remembers which upgrade tab you last had open and reopens it next time. When it's off, all tabs start closed.[2]
  • You can save settings to a slot and load them back later. Exporting creates a data pack with an snbt file.[2]

Upgrade rules to know before you buy

The mod's error messages show a few limits on upgrades. Some upgrades need all upgrade slots empty, only one Battery Upgrade is allowed, and a storage can't hold more than two Tank Upgrades. Battery and tank upgrades can also be refused if the backpack's capacity is too low, and a stack multiplier can help with that.[2]

Watch out: The Infinity Upgrade can only be removed by admins. Keep that in mind if you're playing on a server.[2]

Unverified The pack's config file for this mod, sophisticatedcore-common.toml, could not be read in detail here, so I can't say which values the pack changed from the mod's defaults.

How does Sophisticated Core work?

7 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Sophisticated Core is the shared layer behind the backpack and storage screens. The sources I have cover its screen options, upgrade rules and item toggles, so that's what this section explains. They don't describe power, fluid or multiblock mechanics in detail.[3][4]

Sorting, searching and moving items

Every storage screen has a Sort Inventory button. You can sort by count, by mod, by name or by tags.[3]

The search box says "Click to search", and starting your search with @ looks items up by mod name. If nothing matches, you get a "No items match the search" message.[3]

There are transfer buttons for moving stacks between your inventory and the storage. Each has a plain version and a "Transfer Matching" version, and the tooltip tells you to hold Shift to transfer all.[3]

Screen settings

The settings tab has a Player context. Its tooltip says these player-level settings apply to all backpacks and storages unless a specific one overrides them.[3]

  • Keep Search Phrase: when ON, the screen keeps your search and filters by it the next time you open it. When OFF, it clears the search on close and shows everything again.[3]
  • Keep Tab Open: when ON, the storage remembers which upgrade tab was last open and reopens it. When OFF, all tabs start closed.[3]
  • Shift Click Into Open Tab First or Shift Click Into Inventory First: this decides where a shift-clicked stack goes first, into an open upgrade tab or into the inventory/storage.[3]

Slot tools

  • Memory: you pick slots that remember their contents and only accept matching stacks.[3]
  • No Sort: you pick slots that sorting ignores. Both tools let you select with left click or drag and unselect with right click or drag, and they have Select All and Unselect All buttons.[3]
  • Item Display: you pick a slot whose item is shown on top of the storage. You can show it on the front, left or right side, rotate it (left click is clockwise, right click is counter-clockwise), change its depth, and toggle its color.[3]

Settings templates

You can save your settings into a numbered slot and load them back later. Scroll to change the slot, and you can give a saved slot a custom name. If the settings don't fit in the storage you're loading into, you get a "Settings don't fit in this storage" message.[3]

There is also an export button that creates a data pack with an snbt file. You enter a file name, which can't be empty or contain invalid characters.[3]

Upgrade rules

Each upgrade shows an ON, OFF or INACTIVE switch. The mod's error messages also show what you can and can't do when adding or removing upgrades.[3]

  • Only one Battery Upgrade can be in a storage at a time, and its energy needs the storage to support it. If it can't, the message tells you to upgrade the backpack or add a stack multiplier.[3]
  • A storage can hold at most two Tank Upgrades. A tank upgrade also needs enough capacity from the storage or a stack multiplier.[3]
  • Some upgrades are limited to a single copy, or to a set number of copies, per storage. Some can't be used in certain storages at all.[3]
  • Some upgrades need free inventory slots. If an item sits in one of the slots an upgrade needs, you must clear it first.[3]
  • Some upgrades can't be added unless all upgrade slots are empty.[3]
  • Removing an upgrade can be blocked while a banned item is still inside. It can also be blocked if a slot or upgrade needs a higher stack limit than the current multiplier gives.[3]
  • Only admins can remove the Infinity Upgrade.[3]

Ender Linker

Sophisticated Core's own Ender Linker links storages into groups. The status messages show the rules: a storage can't be linked twice, it must be empty, and it must be compatible with the group. Some storages can't be linked at all.[3]

In this pack the Ender Linker is switched off. The common.enabledItems option lists it as false, and the file's comment says disabling an item disables its recipes.[4]

Items the pack turns off

The same option also switches off Mob Catcher Upgrade and Advanced Mob Catcher Upgrade. It also turns off the stack upgrade conversion items for both backpacks and storage, such as Stack Upgrade Conversion: Tier 1 to Tier 2. Everything else in the list is set to true.[4]

Unverified How Sophisticated Core handles power, fluids and item automation beyond the upgrade rules above is not confirmed by the sources available for this pack.

Which Sophisticated Core config options matter?

2 parts

Sophisticated Core is the shared library behind the Sophisticated mods, and its configs are split into a client file for your own interface and a common file that controls which items are enabled. Here is exactly how this pack sets the options you're most likely to touch.[5][6]

Client options (interface)

  • client.sortButtonsPosition is set to TITLE_LINE_RIGHT in this pack. The other allowed values are BELOW_UPGRADES, BELOW_UPGRADE_TABS and HIDDEN. The option exists to help with conflicts with controls from other mods, so change it if the sort buttons overlap something else on your screen.[5]
  • client.mouseTweaksScrollEnabled is true. When it's on, scrolling in the inventory is handled by the Mouse Tweaks mod if that mod is in the pack.[5]
  • client.playButtonSound is true, so a click sound plays when you press the custom buttons in the GUI. Set it to false if you'd rather have them silent.[5]

Enabled items

common.enabledItems is a list where each entry is an item id followed by |true or |false. Setting an item to false disables it and its recipes. The list covers items from both the Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage namespaces.[6]

In this pack almost everything is set to true. That includes the backpack tiers, the storage barrels, chests and shulker boxes, and the upgrades for both.[6]

Watch out: Two items are set to false in this pack: Mob Catcher Upgrade and Advanced Mob Catcher Upgrade. They are disabled, so their recipes are disabled too and you can't craft them here.[6]

Unverified The sources only show the values this pack uses, not the mod's defaults, so I can't confirm which of these options the pack actually changed from the default.
