What is Mouse Tweaks?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Mouse Tweaks is a small quality-of-life mod that makes moving items around in inventories much faster. It adds extra functions to your mouse buttons, so you spend less time clicking slot by slot and more time actually playing.[1]

It replaces the standard right-mouse-button dragging mechanic, adds two new left-mouse-button dragging mechanics, and lets you quickly move items with the scroll wheel.[1]

What each tweak does

  • RMB tweak: works like the standard right-click drag, with one difference. If you drag over a slot multiple times, an item is put there multiple times.[1]
  • LMB tweak with an item in hand: hold the left mouse button and drag across the inventory to pick up or move items of the same type. Hold shift while dragging and those items get shift-clicked.[1]
  • LMB tweak without an item: hold shift, then hold the left mouse button and drag across the inventory. The items you pass over get shift-clicked into the other inventory.[1]
  • Wheel tweak: scroll down on an item stack to move its items one by one. Scroll up to pull items into it from another inventory.[1]

Who it is for

It is for anyone who sorts chests, fills crafting grids or shuffles big stacks between inventories. Mouse Tweaks works with anything based on the standard container GUI, as long as the mod's screen doesn't change that behavior too much.[1]

It is purely client-side with no server-side component. The pack ships the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21, version 2.26.1, and it has been included since version 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]

Where it fits in the progression

Mouse Tweaks adds no items, blocks or recipes that the sources show, so there is nothing to craft or unlock. It is simply a convenience you can use from the start.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show any quests or any ATM Star path involvement for this mod, and they don't confirm the pack's own config values for the tweaks. The settings described on the mod's project page are the mod's own, so check your in-game settings before relying on them.

How do you get started with Mouse Tweaks?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: there is nothing to craft to get going with Mouse Tweaks. It is an inventory-handling mod that changes what your mouse buttons and scroll wheel do in inventory screens. It replaces the standard right-click dragging, adds two new left-click dragging mechanics, and lets you move items quickly with the scroll wheel.[1]

It is purely client-side, so there is no server-side component to worry about.[1]

Unverified The sources here show no recipes that produce this mod's items and no quests that involve it, so there is no first item to make and no quest to follow. Whether any of the mod's settings were changed in this pack is also not shown here.

What to try first

Open any inventory or chest and try these one at a time. They are the mouse tricks the mod describes.[1]

  1. Right-click drag: hold your right mouse button and drag across slots, for example over the crafting grid. If you drag over a slot multiple times, an item is put there multiple times. You can also drag on top of existing items.[1]
  2. Left-click drag with an item: hold your left mouse button to pick up an item, then drag across the inventory. Items of the same type get picked up. Hold shift while dragging and those items get shift-clicked instead.[1]
  3. Left-click drag without an item: hold shift, then hold your left mouse button and drag across the inventory. Items you pass over get shift-clicked into another inventory.[1]
  4. Scroll wheel: scroll down on an item stack to move its items one by one. Scroll up and items are moved into that stack from another inventory.[1]
Tip: The scroll wheel is the quickest way to top up a stack. Scroll up on a half-empty stack to pull matching items in from the other inventory, such as a chest you have open.[1]

How does Mouse Tweaks work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Mouse Tweaks doesn't add machines, multiblocks or power systems. It is an inventory helper that changes what your mouse buttons and scroll wheel do inside inventory screens. It is purely client-side, with no server-side component, so it only affects how you move items by hand.[1]

The four tweaks

The mod replaces the standard right-click dragging mechanic, adds two new left-click dragging mechanics, and adds a way to move items quickly with the scroll wheel. Each tweak has its own on/off setting.[1]

  • RMB Tweak: it works like the standard right-click drag, with one difference. If you drag over the same slot several times, an item is placed there each time. When it's enabled, it replaces the standard mechanic.[1]
  • LMB Tweak (with item): hold the left mouse button to pick up an item, then drag across your inventory. Items of the same type get picked up. If you hold shift while dragging, items of the same type get shift-clicked instead.[1]
  • LMB Tweak (without item): hold shift, then hold the left mouse button and drag across the inventory. Every item you pass over gets shift-clicked, which is a quick way to move items into another inventory.[1]
  • Wheel Tweak: scroll over an item stack to move items between inventories.[1]

How the Wheel Tweak works

By default, scrolling down on an item stack moves its items out one by one. Scrolling up pulls items into that stack from another inventory.[1]

The project page describes two options that change this. One controls where the mod looks for items when you scroll up: with a value of 1 it searches from last to first, and with 0 it searches from first to last.[1]

The other controls the scroll direction. A value of 0 gives the default actions. A value of 1 inverts them, so scrolling down pulls items and scrolling up pushes them. A value of 2 makes scrolling inventory-position aware: scrolling up pushes items into the other inventory if it's above the selected slot, and pulls items from it if it's below. Scrolling down does the opposite.[1]

Tip: If you're not sure which scroll direction suits you, the position-aware mode (value 2) ties push and pull to where the other inventory sits relative to your slot.[1]

Compatibility with other screens

Mouse Tweaks works with any screen based on GuiContainer, as long as that screen doesn't change the standard behavior too much. Screens that aren't based on it, or mods that want Mouse Tweaks to ignore certain slots, can use the mod's API.[1]

Some older settings, such as the tick-method order and the scroll-handling option, have since been removed from the mod, so you shouldn't need them.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack changes any Mouse Tweaks settings from the mod's documented values is not shown in the sources here. The project page says the mod keeps its settings in a config file, but no config file for this mod was available for this pack, so treat the values above as the mod's own.

What changed in Mouse Tweaks between versions?

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 includes Mouse Tweaks 2.26.1, using the NeoForge build (MouseTweaks-neoforge-mc1.21-2.26.1.jar).[3]

  • Mouse Tweaks was first included in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition to the pack.[3]
  • Mouse Tweaks 2.26.1 updated the mod to the new NeoForge and fixed a config screen crash.[4]
  • Only NeoForge got 2.26.1. Fabric and Forge did not need any changes.[4]

Since the pack runs 2.26.1, you already have that config screen crash fix.[3][4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as mousetweaks, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
