What is Sophisticated Core?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
Sophisticated Core is included in this pack at version 1.0.5, shipped as the Minecraft 1.21.1 build sophisticatedcore-1.21.1-1.0.5.813.jar. It has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Sophisticated Core does in gameplay, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. They also don't show it on the ATM Star path or tied to any quests, so I'm not making claims about those. Check back once more detail is available.
How do you get started with Sophisticated Core?

Good news: Sophisticated Core doesn't ask you to learn a whole new tech tree. In this pack its config decides which items from Sophisticated Backpacks, Sophisticated Storage and Sophisticated Storage In Motion are switched on, and its screen text drives the shared inventory buttons those mods use. The only item that belongs to Sophisticated Core itself is the Ender Linker.[2][3]
Step 1: Know what is switched on
Everything is controlled by enabledItems. Each entry is an item id followed by true or false, and the config's own comment says disabling an item disables its recipes. Nearly everything in the list is set to true in this pack, including the backpacks, the chests, barrels and shulker boxes from Sophisticated Storage, the storage boat and the storage minecart.[3]
The exceptions I can see are the two Omega tier stack upgrades, Stack Upgrade Omega Tier and Stack Upgrade Omega Tier. Both are set to false, so don't plan around them.[3]
Step 2: Craft the Ender Linker
The Ender Linker is enabled in the pack's config, so its recipe is active. Here is the exact in-pack recipe.[3][4]

Step 3: Learn the inventory buttons
Sophisticated Core supplies the screen text for backpack and storage screens, so these controls are worth learning early:[2]
- Sort Inventory, with sorting options By Count, By Mod, By Name and By Tags.[2]
- Transfer to Inventory and Transfer to Storage, plus matching versions that only move items matching what is already there. The tooltip says to hold Shift to transfer all.[2]
- A Keep Search Phrase toggle, which controls whether the screen remembers your search when you reopen it.[2]
- A Keep Tab Open toggle, which controls whether the last open upgrade tab is reopened next time.[2]
How does Sophisticated Core work?

Sophisticated Core has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid systems of its own that the sources show. What they do show is the shared inventory screen, the settings and the upgrade rules used by Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage, plus one item, the Ender Linker. This section covers those.[2][3]
Moving and sorting items
The storage screen has a Sort Inventory button. You can sort by count, by mod, by name or by tags.[2]
There are also transfer buttons: Transfer to Inventory and Transfer to Storage move everything. The "Matching" versions only move stacks that match what is already on the other side, and the tooltip says to hold Shift to transfer all.[2]
The search box starts a search when you click it. Put an @ in front to search by mod name. If nothing matches, the screen tells you no items match the search.[2]
Per-slot settings
- Memory: you pick slots that remember their contents and only accept matching stacks. Left click or drag selects a slot, right click or drag unselects it. There are Select All and Unselect All buttons.[2]
- No Sort: you pick slots that sorting ignores. It uses the same selection controls as Memory.[2]
- Item Display: you pick a slot whose item is shown on top of the storage. You can show it on the front, left or right side, and there are buttons for rotation, color and depth.[2]
Screen behaviour toggles
- Keep Search Phrase: when OFF, the screen clears your search on close and shows everything next time. When ON, it keeps the phrase and filters by it when you reopen.[2]
- Keep Tab Open: when ON, the screen remembers which upgrade tab was open and reopens it. When OFF, all tabs start closed.[2]
- Shift click routing: you can choose Shift Click Into Inventory First or Shift Click Into Open Tab First. This decides whether a shift-clicked stack goes to the inventory or storage first, or to an open upgrade tab first.[2]
- Player context: the Player setting applies to all backpacks and storages unless something overrides it.[2]
Saving settings as templates
You can save your settings to a numbered slot and load them back later. Scroll to change the slot, and you can give a slot a name. You can also export settings under a file name you enter, which creates a data pack with an snbt file. Loading fails with a message if the settings do not fit in that storage.[2]
Upgrade rules
The mod enforces upgrade limits and tells you why an upgrade is refused. These are the ones the sources confirm:[2]
- Only one Battery Upgrade can be installed at a time.[2]
- Tank Upgrades are limited to two.[2]
- A battery or tank upgrade can be refused if the backpack's capacity is too low. The message asks you to upgrade the backpack or add a stack multiplier.[2]
- Some upgrades are limited to a single copy or to a set number per container, and some are not allowed in certain containers at all.[2]
- Some upgrades need all upgrade slots to be empty, and some need the last few inventory slots to be free of items.[2]
- Removal can be blocked too: a banned item must be removed first, and a stack upgrade cannot come out while a slot or upgrade needs a higher stack limit. Only admins can remove the Infinity Upgrade.[2]
Ender Linker
The Ender Linker links storages. The sources only show its status messages: a storage can be refused because it is already linked, because it has contents, because it is incompatible with the linked storage group, or because it cannot be linked at all. Which Sophisticated Core config options matter?

The config that matters for Sophisticated Core is enabledItems. It is one master list that switches items on or off for the whole Sophisticated family, so one file controls what shows up from Sophisticated Backpacks, Sophisticated Storage and Sophisticated Storage In Motion, as well as Core's own items.[3]
How enabledItems works
Each entry is an item id followed by a pipe and either true or false. The comment in the file says that disabling an item here also disables its recipes. So a false entry means you cannot craft that item in this pack.[3]
What this pack sets
Nearly everything in the list is set to true, including backpacks, barrels, chests, shulker boxes, the storage controller, tier upgrades, stack upgrades and their conversion variants, and Core's Ender Linker. The two exceptions are the omega tier stack upgrades.[3]
- Stack Upgrade Omega Tier is set to false, so it is disabled in this pack.[3]
- Stack Upgrade Omega Tier is set to false as well, so the storage version is disabled too.[3]
