What is Create: Occult Engineering?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Create: Occult Engineering is currently described on its project page as an integration between Create and Occultism. It lets you automate the occult side of things, like rituals and other otherworldly jobs, with Create-style machines. If you like building contraptions and also want Occultism's magic to run without you babysitting it, this mod is for you.[1]
This pack ships version 0.13.1 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod page says it currently supports Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and that the Create version must be 6.0.8 or newer.[1][2]
What you can automate
- Spiritfire: as the mod page currently describes it, you put a Spiritfire or Spirit Campfire in front of an Encased Fan to automate that process.[1]
- Rituals: the Mechanical Chamber automates any ritual that doesn't need a sacrifice or external item use. A Mechanical Arm is the best way to feed it books, and it uses the items in the Sacrificial Bowls around it as usual.[1]
- Crushing: the Mechanical Pulverizer crushes things into dust, and can replace Occultism's crushing entities for all the dusts.[1]
- Phlogiports: the mod page currently says these wirelessly send packages around based on their address.[1]
- Otherworld Detector: as currently described, it outputs a Redstone signal when the nearest player has otherworld vision, from either the goggles or the third eye potion effect. A comparator on it gives you the distance to that player.[1]
- Spirit Solution: you can make it by heating Demon's Dream Fruit with water or by crushing Demon's Dream Seeds. It binds books instead of crafting with a Dictionary of Spirits.[1]
Getting started
Craft the Encyclopedia of Souls first. The book explains the rest of the mod, and you can also check recipes in JEI. Every piece of Occult Machinery is documented in Create's Ponder as well.[1]
The Pentacles this mod adds each need the Mechanical Chamber and will not work with the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Otherwise they work the same way as in Occultism.[3]
Still in development
The mod page currently lists some features as partially developed: they have some functionality but are not feature complete, with no clear progression yet. Copper, Zinc and Brass chalk can be drawn on the ground like Occultism's regular chalk and are used for new rituals. The Púca is a new spirit, and the page says that in the future it is planned to become a Create helper entity, much like Occultism's lumberjacks.[1]
Unverified The sources do not show any quests for this mod in the pack, or where it sits in the pack's progression, so treat it as an optional add-on for now.
How do you get started with Create: Occult Engineering?
7 parts
Create: Occult Engineering links Create and Occultism so you can automate rituals, crushing and more. Here's a sensible order for your first crafts. It follows what each recipe needs, so you won't get stuck waiting on an ingredient.[1][4]
Step 1: The Encyclopedia of Souls
Start with the Encyclopedia of Souls. It's the mod's in-game guide, and the mod says the rest can be discovered from the book, from recipes in JEI, and from Create's Ponder screens.[1][4]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: occultengineering:crafting/null/encyclopedia_of_souls
Step 2: Spirit Solution
Spirit Solution is used to bind books, and it's also an ingredient in the impure chalk recipes. You can make it from Demon's Dream Fruit or from Otherworld Essence in a mixer, or from Demon's Dream Seeds with a compacting recipe. The mod describes the fruit version as mixing with water while heated.[1][4]

Step 3: Sterling Silver
Sterling Silver Ingot is made in a Create mixer, and you'll need it for several of the machines below. Nuggets and blocks convert to and from ingots with normal crafting. The Block of Sterling Silver is what the Mechanical Pulverizer, Mechanical Chamber and Phlogiport recipes ask for, so make a few.[4]

Step 4: Mechanical Pulverizer
The Mechanical Pulverizer crushes items into dust. The mod pitches it as a replacement for Occultism's crushing entities, so you can automate all of your dusts. Power it from the back with a Shaft, right-click it with a valid item, then right-click again to collect the result after a while. Inputs and outputs can be automated too.[1][5]

Step 5: Mechanical Chamber
The Mechanical Chamber automates crafting rituals. It's crafted by a ritual itself, so you'll do this first one by hand with a Golden Sacrificial Bowl.[4][5]

Once it's built, power it with rotation from the top or bottom, because faster rotation means a faster ritual. Surround it with chalks and other ritual blocks. It pulls automatically from Sacrificial Bowls within 8 blocks. Mechanical Arms are the easiest way to feed it, since they only insert bound books once the rest of the ritual is ready.[5]
Step 6: Púca books, then the rest
The Otherworld Detector and Phlogiport rituals both need a bound Púca book. First make the unbound Book of Binding: Púca in a mixer, then bind it by filling it with Spirit Solution to get Book of Binding: Púca (Bound).[4][5]
Mixing (create)

With that book you can craft the Otherworld Detector. It gives a redstone signal when the nearest player can see into the Otherworld, either through the Third Eye effect or Otherworld Goggles. A comparator gives you the distance to that player.[1][4][5]
Ritual (occultism)
Recipe id: occultengineering:ritual/craft_otherworld_detector
For wireless item transport, the Phlogiport needs Silver Phlogistate, which is made from Phlogiston and a sterling silver ingot. The pack changed the Phlogiport ritual recipe, so go by the recipe below rather than the mod's defaults.[4][5]

Optional extras
- Chalks: the mod adds copper, zinc and brass chalks. You make the impure versions in a Create compacting step with Spirit Solution, then refine them in spirit fire. Impure Copper Chalk becomes Copper Chalk this way.[4]
- Goggles: Otherworldly Engineer's Goggles combine Create's Engineer's Goggles with Occultism's Otherworld Goggles.[4]
- Fan catalyst: Fan Enspirit Catalyst is made with a Create item application recipe, and the pack changed that recipe. Go by the one below.[4]

The mod's own Pentacles need the Mechanical Chamber and won't work with the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Build the Chamber before you plan any of them.[3]
How does Create: Occult Engineering work?
6 parts
Occult Engineering is the bridge between Create and Occultism: it lets you automate rituals, crushing and a few other otherworldly jobs with Create-style machines. The mod documents its machines in Create's Ponder, and the Encyclopedia of Souls covers the rest. Here's how the systems fit together.[1]
Mechanical Chamber: automating rituals
The Mechanical Chamber can be used in place of a Golden Sacrificial Bowl for rituals that craft items. It's a kinetic block, so it needs rotational power from the top or bottom, and a faster rotation means a faster ritual.[5]
Surround the chamber with chalks and the other ritual blocks as usual. It automatically pulls from Sacrificial Bowls within 8 blocks, and you can fill those bowls by hand or through automation.[5]
Mechanical Arms are the easiest way to feed the chamber. They only insert bound books once the rest of the ritual is ready, and then the chamber starts the ritual. They also only extract the resulting items.[5]
Pentacles added by this mod need the Mechanical Chamber and won't work with the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Otherwise they work the same way as in Occultism.[3]
The chamber itself is crafted through an Occultism ritual, shown below.[4]

Mechanical Pulverizer: automated crushing
The Mechanical Pulverizer crushes items into dust. Power it from the back with a Shaft. Right-click it with a valid item, wait a while, then right-click again to take the result. Inputs and outputs can also be automated.[5]
It can stand in for Occultism's crushing entities, so you can automate all of the dusts.[1]

In the pack's server config, both machines have a stress impact of 4: stressValues.v2.impact.mechanical_chamber for the chamber and stressValues.v2.impact.mechanical_pulverizer for the pulverizer.[6]
Phlogiports: wireless item transfer
Phlogiports send items wirelessly over short distances. A port only works once you give it an address in its inventory UI. You can insert items through that UI or with automation.[5]
If an inserted package's address doesn't match the port it went into, and another Phlogiport in range has that name, the package is sent wirelessly to that port's inventory. If several ports share the same name, they receive matching packages randomly.[5]
The maximum forwarding distance is set by [[config:config/occultengineering-server.toml#stressValues.v2.Phlogiport Range]], which is 128 blocks in the pack. That matches the mod default, and the allowed range is 8 to 2,048.[6]
Otherworld Detector
The Otherworld Detector is a redstone block that checks whether the nearest player can see into the Otherworld. That means they either ate Demon's Dream Fruit for the Third Eye or are wearing Otherworld Goggles. It outputs a redstone signal in that case, and a comparator reads the distance to that player.[1][5]
The Otherworldly Engineer's Goggles merge Engineer's Goggles with Otherworld Goggles.[4]
Ritual (occultism)

Spirit Solution and the Púca
Spirit Solution is made by mixing Demon's Dream Fruit with water while heated, or from Demon's Dream Seeds. It binds books in place of crafting with a Dictionary of Spirits. This pack also has a mixing recipe that uses Otherworld Essence.[1][4]
Mixing (create)
Recipe id: occultengineering:mixing/spirit_solution_from_fruit
Spirit Solution also affects vision range. client.spirit_solution multiplies the vision range you get through it, and the pack leaves it at the default of 1.[7]
The Book of Binding: Púca starts unbound. Filling it with Spirit Solution gives the Book of Binding: Púca (Bound), which summons a púca. The púca is a new spirit that the mod calls partially developed. It's planned to become a helper entity for Create, but that isn't implemented yet.[1][4][5]

Spiritfire, chalks and other materials
To automate Spiritfire, place a Spiritfire or Spirit Campfire in front of an Encased Fan.[1]
The pack changes the recipe for the Fan Enspirit Catalyst. It's applied to an empty fan catalyst from Create Connected using Demon's Dream Fruit.[4]

This recipe is changed by the pack.
Copper, zinc and brass chalk are drawn on the ground like Occultism's regular chalk and are used for the mod's new rituals. You make the impure versions, such as Impure Copper Chalk, Impure Zinc Chalk and Impure Brass Chalk, with Create's compacting.[1][4]
Sterling Silver Ingot comes from mixing copper and silver dusts. Phlogiston comes from compacting, and mixing it with a sterling silver ingot gives Silver Phlogistate.[4]

How do you progress through Create: Occult Engineering?
6 parts
Unverified No quests in this pack involve this mod, and it is not on the ATM Star quest path, so there is no quest line to follow. The order below is built from how the in-pack recipes depend on each other.
Occult Engineering mixes Create machinery with Occultism rituals. The order below follows how the in-pack recipes depend on each other, so each step uses items from the steps before it.[4]
Early game: foundations
Start with the Encyclopedia of Souls, the mod's in-game guide book. It is a shapeless crafting recipe.[4][8]

How does Create: Occult Engineering work with other mods?
5 parts
Create: Occult Engineering is itself an integration mod: it ties Create and Occultism together so you can automate occult rituals and otherworldly work. Most of the recipes below mix items from both mods, and one also uses an item from Create Connected.[1][4]
Spirit Solution runs on Create machines
Spirit Solution is the link between the two mods. You make it with Create's mixing and compacting, starting from Occultism plants and materials such as Demon's Dream, Demon's Dream Seeds and Otherworld Essence.[4]

Once you have it, Create's filling process binds Occultism's books. There is a filling recipe for each of the Afrit, Djinni, Foliot and Marid books, turning the plain book into its bound version.[4]
Filling (create)
Recipe id: occultengineering:filling/bind_foliot_book
The Afrit, Djinni and Marid books have matching filling recipes.
The mod also adds its own Book of Binding: Púca, made with Create mixing from Occultism items. Mixing it needs the flowing form of the spirit solution. You can start from an Book of Binding: Empty or from the individual Occultism ingredients.[4]
Mixing (create)
Recipe id: occultengineering:mixing/book_of_binding_puca_from_empty
Chalks
Create's compacting also upgrades Occultism's Impure White Chalk into metal chalks. This pack has recipes for Impure Brass Chalk, Impure Copper Chalk and Impure Zinc Chalk. Each one uses the matching metal dust and spirit solution.[4]
Compacting (create)
250× Spirit Solution
Impure White Chalk
- 2× any zinc dust

The brass and copper chalks follow the same pattern with their own dusts.
Machines that mix Create and Occultism parts
The Mechanical Pulverizer is crafted from Create parts plus an Occultism block, Otherstone Slab. The mod's description says it can be used in place of Occultism's crushing entities, to automate the dusts.[1][4]

The Mechanical Chamber, Otherworld Detector and Phlogiport are all made through Occultism rituals, but each one asks for Create items or the mod's own bound books. The Mechanical Chamber is the key piece. It automates rituals that need no sacrifice or external item use, and every pentacle this mod adds requires it and will not work with the Golden Ritual Bowl.[1][3][4]

Phlogiports can transfer packages wirelessly based on their address, which is a nice fit for Create logistics.[1]
Goggles and the guide book
You can combine Create's Engineer's Goggles with Occultism's Otherworld Goggles to get the Otherworldly Engineer's Goggles. The mod's guide book, the Encyclopedia of Souls, comes from a Create cogwheel and Occultism's dictionary of spirits.[1][4]

Fan catalysts
The mod adds a Fan Enspirit Catalyst that is built from the Empty Fan Catalyst and an Occultism fruit using Create's item application. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's version. You can also turn the enspirit catalyst back into the empty one by crafting. The mod's description says a Spiritfire or Spirit Campfire placed in front of an Encased Fan automates the process.[1][4]

Which Create: Occult Engineering config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Good news: this pack leaves the Occult Engineering settings it exposes at their mod defaults, so what you read in the mod's own docs for these options applies here. These are the ones you're most likely to care about.[9][10]
Client: Spirit Solution vision
client.spirit_solution multiplies the vision range you get through Spirit Solution. The pack sets it to 1, which is the mod default, so the range isn't scaled up or down. The allowed range is 0.125 to 256.0 if you want to tweak it for yourself.[9]
Server: Phlogiport range
[[config:config/occultengineering-server.toml#stressValues.v2.Phlogiport Range]] is the maximum distance, in blocks, that a Phlogiport can forward a package. The pack uses 128, the same as the mod default. The option accepts values from 8 to 2,048.[10]
Server: stress impact
- stressValues.v2.impact.mechanical_chamber is set to 4 in this pack.[10]
- stressValues.v2.impact.mechanical_pulverizer is also set to 4 in this pack.[10]
Unverified The sources don't list the mod defaults for the two stress impact values, so we can't confirm whether the pack changed them.
What changed in Create: Occult Engineering between versions?
2 parts
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.1.1 ships Create: Occult Engineering 0.10.0. The pack file shows it was first included in 1.1.1 or an earlier pack release, so I can't tell you exactly which pack version added it.[11]
0.10.0
The mod's 0.10.0 changelog lists one change: an update to the Create and Occultism dependencies. It is marked as a breaking change and also listed as a new feature.[12]
The changelog doesn't say what the update changes in practice, so I can't tell you about any new items, recipes or fixes in this version.[12]
Pack changelogs and older versions
There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say whether any pack release changed it. The mod's changelog also points to its release page for the full list of versions, which I don't have here.[12]
