Baubley Heart Canisters is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 1.21.1-1.4.3. This mod adds back the old Tinkers' Construct heart canisters in a new and reimagined way to become Baubles/Curios! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Baubley Heart Canisters?

3 parts

Baubley Heart Canisters brings back the old Tinkers' Construct heart canisters, reimagined as Curios (the trinket-slot system). They give you a way to push your max health up as you progress. The pack ships version 1.21.1-1.4.1 of the mod.[1][2]

The mod requires Curios to work. Mantle is optional but recommended, and the mod's page says it improves the heart display.[1]

The heart tiers

All of these drops are configurable in the mod's config. You can also craft each tier from the previous tiers.[1]

Tip: The mod's page recommends checking JEI or a similar recipe viewer for the recipe of each heart tier.[1]

Amulets and gear

The Heart Amulet holds all of your heart canisters in a single slot. Which Curio slot type it uses can be changed in-game or in the config file.[1]

The mod also has a Soul Heart Canister, which works only in the Soul Amulet. It acts like a Totem of Undying that heals you back to max health, and once it is used up it reverts to a Blue Heart Canister.[1]

If you like to fight, the Vitality Blade is a sword that uses your Heart Canisters to gain attack damage, and each canister adds 2.[1]

Where it fits in this pack

In the pack's quest book, the mod appears in the gearing_up chapter. One quest, "Baubley Heart Crystals" quest, asks for a Heart Amulet and any one of the Red, Yellow, Blue or Green Heart Canisters. A second quest, "Vitality Weapons" quest, asks for the Vitality Blade and the Vigor Bow.[3]

How do you get started with Baubley Heart Canisters?

7 parts

Baubley Heart Canisters brings back the old Tinkers' Construct heart canisters as Baubles/Curios items. In this pack, your first goal is to get a heart canister and put it in a Heart Amulet. Here's the order I'd do it in.[1][3]

Get a Miniature Red Heart

The Miniature Red Heart is the first tier of heart, and the mod page says red hearts drop from hostile mobs. Higher tiers can be crafted from the tier before, so the red one comes first. Check JEI or a similar recipe viewer if you want to see how each tier is made.[1][4]

Craft a Canister

The Canister is the base of your first Red Heart Canister.[4]

Make a Relic Apple

The Relic Apple is also part of the Red Heart Canister recipe. The pack has a normal and a rotated version of the recipe, and both give the same item. On its own, the mod page says eating it gives Haste II, Strength II and Resistance II for one minute.[1][4]

Get a Wither Bone

The Wither Bone is the last extra piece. The mod page says it drops from Wither Skeletons, and the mod's own crafting recipe is below.[1][4]

This pack also adds a stonecutting recipe for the same item, so you can use that instead.[4]

The amulet and a heart canister (red, yellow, blue or green) are the tasks of the quest "Baubley Heart Crystals" quest in the gearing_up quest chapter, so you can follow along with it.[3]

Where to go next

The Yellow Heart Canister builds directly on the Red Heart Canister you just made.[4]

The next quest in the gearing_up chapter, "Vitality Weapons" quest, asks for the Vitality Blade and the Vigor Bow. Their tooltips say to sneak and right click the blade to open it, and to sneak and left click the bow to open it.[3][5]

Tip: Not sure how to craft a higher tier of heart? The mod page recommends checking JEI or a similar recipe viewer for each tier's recipe.[1]

How does Baubley Heart Canisters work?

7 parts

This mod is about hearts you wear in a Curios slot. The project page describes it that way, so the gameplay loop here is getting the right drops and crafting your way up the heart tiers. This section walks through how that fits together in this pack.[1]

Wearing hearts

The mod needs Curios to work, and the project page recommends Mantle as an optional extra. The Heart Amulet holds all of your heart canisters in a single slot, and you open it with a right click.[1][5]

The canisters come in four colours, each in its own tier: Red Heart Canister, Yellow Heart Canister, Green Heart Canister and Blue Heart Canister. After the red one, each tier is crafted using the canister of the previous tier, so you climb the ladder one step at a time.[1][4]

The amulet itself is crafted like this:[4]

General.heartStackSize caps the stack size of heart canisters. It is also the maximum number of full hearts you can get per heart container type. The pack leaves it at the mod default of 10.[6]

Crafting the tiers

Everything starts with the Canister, which is the base for the first tier.[4]

Every canister recipe needs a miniature heart of its own colour, for example Miniature Red Heart. Miniature hearts are made from the matching melted heart (such as Melted Red Heart) plus another heart. You get a melted heart by smelting a miniature heart of the same colour. Melted hearts can also be converted between colours, which is handy if you have a spare colour sitting around.[4]

The miniature hearts of the other colours have their own recipes in the pack that follow the same pattern.

Where hearts drop

The project page describes red hearts dropping from hostile mobs and yellow hearts from boss mobs, and says drops are configurable. This pack sets its drops in its own drop file, listed below.[1][7]

  • Red: the hostile entry in the drop file is set to 0.05.[7]
  • Yellow: the boss entry is set to 1.[7]
  • Green: the pack lists the Warden, Ignis from Cataclysm and the Iron's Spellbooks fire boss, each set to 1.[7]
  • Blue: the pack lists the Cataclysm bosses Ancient Remnant, Maledictus, The Harbinger and The Leviathan, plus the Ender Chicken from Mob Cat Rewards Hub, each set to 1.[7]

The Wither Bone drops from Wither Skeletons, and the pack lowers General.boneDropRate to 0.15 (the mod default is 0.18). The Warden also drops echo shards, which makes them renewable, and General.echoShardDropRate is 0.5, the same as the mod default.[1][6]

You can also craft a Wither Bone yourself.

Health patches

Each colour has a health patch, for example Red Health Patch. Every patch has a heal amount and a cooldown in seconds. Heal amounts are in half-hearts, so 2 means one full heart. The pack keeps all of these at the mod defaults.[4][6]

  • Red: heals 2 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]]) with a 5 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]]).[6]
  • Yellow: heals 6 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchHealAmount]]) with a 10 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchCooldown]]).[6]
  • Green: heals 10 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchHealAmount]]) with a 20 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchCooldown]]).[6]
  • Blue: heals 20 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchHealAmount]]) with a 30 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchCooldown]]).[6]

Starting health

The pack sets Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks to false and Server.startingHealth to 20. The project page says starting health can be changed in the config and that values of 0 or below are reset to the default.[1][8]

Soul hearts

The project page describes a Soul Heart Canister that can only be used in the Soul Amulet. It acts like a Totem of Undying that heals you back to max health, and once consumed it reverts to a Blue Heart Canister. In this pack, General.soulHeartReturnChance is 1, the same as the mod default.[1][6]

How do you progress through Baubley Heart Canisters?

8 parts

Heart canisters climb a colour ladder in this pack: Red Heart Canister, Yellow Heart Canister, Green Heart Canister and Blue Heart Canister. The recipes below show exactly what each step asks for.[4]

Red

Everything starts with the plain Canister. The recipes below show how it, the Miniature Red Heart, the Relic Apple and the Wither Bone come together in the Red Heart Canister. The pack adds its own shortcut for the bone: a stonecutting recipe that turns a wither skeleton skull straight into a Wither Bone.[4]

Miniature hearts and melted hearts

Each canister tier needs the miniature heart of its own colour. You craft a miniature heart from the melted version of that colour plus any heart from the hearts tag.[4]

Melted hearts are flexible. Smelting a miniature heart gives you the melted heart of the same colour. You can then convert a melted heart to the neighbouring colour in the chain: red and yellow swap, yellow and green swap, and green and blue swap. If you end up with the wrong colour, you can step it along instead of starting over.[4]

Quests that touch this mod

Both quests that involve this mod sit in the gearing_up chapter. Quest "Baubley Heart Crystals" quest asks for a Heart Amulet and a heart canister. Any colour counts for that task, so the Red Heart Canister is enough.[3]

How does Baubley Heart Canisters work with other mods?

2 parts

Baubley Heart Canisters has only a few cross-mod links in this pack, but they are fun. They are the Vitality Blade and the Vigor Bow, and both appear in custom World Engine recipes that the pack added.[4]

World Engine recipes

The World Engine recipes are pack-added Custom Machinery recipes. Each one takes a Vitality Blade or Vigor Bow along with a Cognition counterpart and ingredients from Occultism and Twilight Forest, so you will be gathering from several mods to use them.[4]

Quests

The quests that feature this mod are in the gearing_up chapter. "Baubley Heart Crystals" quest asks for the Heart Amulet and any one of the red, yellow, blue or green heart canisters. "Vitality Weapons" quest asks for the Vitality Blade and the Vigor Bow. Both only use items from this mod, so no quest ties it to another mod's items.[3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Baubley Heart Canisters?

1 part

In this pack, Baubley Heart Canisters appears in the "gearing_up" quest chapter. Every quest involving the mod there is a hand-in quest: you submit items from the mod.[3]

Chapter: gearing_up

For the canister task you can submit whichever canister type you have, since any of them counts.[3]

Which Baubley Heart Canisters config options matter?

5 parts

Good news: this pack leaves almost every Baubley Heart Canisters option at the mod default. Only one value was changed, so there isn't much to relearn. Here is what matters.[6][7][8]

The one value the pack changed

General.boneDropRate controls how often wither bones drop. The pack sets it to 0.15, down from the mod default of 0.18. Wither bones are a crafting item, so expect to farm slightly longer for them than you would in a default install.[1][6]

General settings at their defaults

Heart patches

All four patch types use the mod defaults. Cooldowns are in seconds. Heal amounts are in half-hearts, so a value of 2 is one full heart.[6]

  • Red: heals 2 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]]) with a 5 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]]).[6]
  • Yellow: heals 6 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchHealAmount]]) with a 10 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchCooldown]]).[6]
  • Green: heals 10 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchHealAmount]]) with a 20 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchCooldown]]).[6]
  • Blue: heals 20 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchHealAmount]]) with a 30 second cooldown ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchCooldown]]).[6]

Starting health

Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks is false in this pack, and Server.startingHealth is 20. The mod page says starting health can be changed through the config, and that any value of 0 or below is reset to the default.[1][8]

Heart drops

The pack sets its heart drops in its drops file. Hostile mobs have a value of 0.05 for red hearts (heartEntries.red.hostile). Bosses have a value of 1 for yellow hearts (heartEntries.yellow.boss).[7]

Tip: The mod page describes its own default drop sources, such as the Ender Dragon for green hearts and Wardens for blue hearts. This pack's drops file lists different mobs, so go by the lists above rather than the mod page.[1][7]

What changed in Baubley Heart Canisters between versions?

4 parts

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Baubley Heart Canisters 1.21.1-1.4.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

1.4.1

  • Fixed a loop case with other mods that revive the player, such as Immersive Engineering's Draconic / Undying Module.[9]

1.4.0

  • The in-game config is now enabled.[10]
  • Heal amounts and cooldowns for heart patches are now configurable.[10]

1.3.1

  • Fixed a bug where the bonemeal recipe was replaced by the wither bone one. The wither bone recipe is now added as an alternative instead.[11]

1.2.3

  • Added translations: ru_ru and uk_ua (by v972), pt_br (by PrincessStellar), fr_fr (by Nogapra) and ko_kr (by smoong951).[12]

I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say whether a StoneBlock 4 release changed its values or recipes.[2]
