What is XyCraft Machines?
XyCraft Machines is in the pack at version 0.7.53, and it has been there since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier.[1]
The pack's quest book puts it in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips", which is chapter 2 of 31 in the book and holds 30 quests. The chapter's opening quest, "Tips & Tricks!" quest, says it is full of useful items and tips for your playthrough, so this is a chapter of handy extras rather than a full progression line.[2]

Welcome to XyCraft Machines. The sources here don't include a guidebook for this mod, so this is a simple crafting order built from the pack's real recipes. Quite a few of them were changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from other modpacks.[3]
Machine Base first
Start with the Machine Base. It is a component in many of the machines below, such as the Fabricator, Item IO and Valve. The pack changed this recipe, and one craft gives you 2 Machine Bases.[3]

Ports show up in the recipes for lots of XyCraft machines, and each craft gives you 4 of them. You'll want the Item Port, the Fluid Port and the Energy Port early. The pack changed the Fluid Port and Energy Port recipes, while the Item Port uses the mod's own recipe.[3]

The Extractor
The Extractor extracts items and fluids out of the environment. The pack changed this recipe, and it needs one of the ports from the previous step. The mod's own Extractor recipe turns leaves and logs into 10 Resin.[3][4]

The Extractor also shows up in the quest book. The "Black Hole Juicing" quest quest in the Pina Colada chapter, part of the Main Questline, asks for one. It carries a serious warning about setting one up above a black hole, so read that quest carefully before you try it.[5]
The Fabricator
The Fabricator crafts items automatically. Its screen has Always On, High Signal and Pulse options. This one is the mod's own recipe, not changed by the pack.[3][4]

A fun extra: Balloon on a Stick
The Balloon on a Stick has its own quest in the Useful Items & Tips chapter, "Temporary Flight?" quest. It gives you temporary "flight" in a small radius around where you place it. Don't go too far, or it will snap![2]

How does XyCraft Machines work?

Ports and the Machine Base

Tanks and fluids
The Valve is what lets you build tanks. Its tooltip says it allows the creation of tanks and shows a maximum size. The tank screen shows the tank's capacity and whether it is empty.[4]
The Hydro Pump automatically pumps water into a connected tank. Its tooltip gives a base rate per cycle and a different rate per cycle when waterlogged, and says you can extract from it at a higher rate. The pack changed this recipe.[3][4]

Fluid control has a few extra pieces. The Fluid Void block stops fluids from flowing into adjacent blocks. The mod also has Fluid Pipe and Energy Pipe blocks, and its Jade plugin has options for tank info and extractor info.[4]

The Item IO block has a fill side and a drain side, and you toggle which is which with a wrench. The Aluminum Wrench is the mod's wrench, and the pack changed its recipe.[3][4]

How do you progress through XyCraft Machines?

The sources here don't show a formal tier ladder for XyCraft Machines in this pack. What they do show is a crafting chain: you build basic parts first, then the machines that depend on them, and the pack changed a good number of those recipes. Here is how that chain and the quest book line up.[3]
Where the quest book puts it
- The Extractor gets its own quest, "Extracting Unique Materials" quest, in the Generating Resources chapter (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 8 of 31). The text describes it as a machine for building mini structures that pull items out of the blocks around it, and notes that some recipes need certain blocks placed in a specific direction. The chapter has 99 quests and 58 of them aren't covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[6]
- The Extractor is also a task in "Black Hole Juicing" quest, in the Pina Colada chapter (group Main Questline, chapter 6 of 31). That quest has you set it above a black hole to extract Liquid Antimatter, and the Pineapple quest comes right after it.[5]
- Balloon on a Stick has its own quest, "Temporary Flight?" quest, in Useful Items & Tips (chapter 2 of 31). It gives temporary flight in a small radius around the placed stick.[2]

Step 2: The Extractor
The Extractor recipe is also changed by the pack, so don't trust a recipe you remember from another pack. It uses pointed dripstone, and the quest book says the easiest way to get that is hammering dripstone blocks on a cutting board.[3][6]

The mod's own Extractor recipe turns leaves and logs into resin. A Block of Resin can be made in the Blender from resin and water, and it unpacks into Resin Balls or can be compacted from them.[3]

XyCraft Machines doesn't stand alone in this pack. The pack rewrote most of its crafting recipes so they run on materials from the pack's own FTB materials set, and it added a few cross-mod recipes of its own.[3]
Metals from the pack's materials set
Nearly every XyCraft recipe in the dump is marked as changed by the pack. They draw on Aluminum Ingot, Aluminum Nugget and Aluminum Plate, along with Iron Plate and a few other metals. Basic parts such as the Machine Base and the Aluminum Wrench already depend on aluminum, so get that going early.[3]

Recipes added by the pack
The pack added shapeless recipes for the Fluid Selector and the Item Selector. Both need Creative Ascension and an Extractor, plus a Valve for the fluid version or a Soaryn Box for the item version.[3]
There is also a Mekanism crushing recipe added by the pack. It turns one Resin Ball into 9 Bio Fuel.[3]

The one XyCraft item I can confirm in the quest book is the Balloon on a Stick, covered by "Temporary Flight?" quest. It sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 2 of 31 and has 30 quests in total. That quest says the Balloon On A Stick grants temporary flight in a small radius around it. The chapter has more quests than I can show here, so check the quest book itself for any other XyCraft entries.[2]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use XyCraft Machines?

Useful Items & Tips
This is chapter 2 of the book, and it's a grab bag of handy items. The mod's quest here is "Temporary Flight?" quest, which asks you to get the Balloon on a Stick. The quest says it grants temporary "flight" in a small radius around it. You place it down, get a balloon attached to you, and fly around it. Don't go too far from it or it will snap.[2]
Pina Colada
This is chapter 6 of the book, in the Main Questline group. Here the mod's quest is "Black Hole Juicing" quest, which asks for an Oritech Black Hole block and the Extractor. Once you have a black hole, you set the extractor above it with a one-block gap in between to extract Liquid Antimatter.[5]
After it, a quest in "Pina Colada" comes next in the chain, and it follows Black Hole Juicing directly. The quest for "Weird-tasting Fruit Juice" quest also mentions an extractor above a Pineapple, but its listed tasks are Shimmering Ice and a Time Crystal Block, not the extractor itself.[5]
Generating Resources
This is chapter 8 of the book, in the Resources & Logistics group. The mod's quest is "Extracting Unique Materials" quest, which asks for the Extractor. The quest describes it as a simple machine for creating mini structures that extract items from the blocks around them. It is aimed at materials that are hard to farm or create, such as Dragon's Breath.[6]
- The quest's examples are a cobblestone generator using lava and water, or farming snowballs from mini snowmen.[6]
- Some recipes need certain blocks placed in a specific direction around the Extractor.[6]
- The quest also tells you the easiest way to get pointed dripstone is by hammering dripstone blocks on a cutting board.[6]
The quest list for this chapter was cut off for space, so I can't confirm what comes before or after this quest. Check the quest book for its exact place in the chapter.[6]
