What is Simple Weather?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
Simple Weather is part of the pack's mod list. This version of the pack ships Simple Weather 1.0.13, and the mod has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier.[1]
That is all I can confirm for this page. I have no source describing what the mod does in this pack, so I won't guess at its features, settings or recipes. Once there is something verifiable, this section can grow.[1]
Unverified The available sources don't confirm what Simple Weather does, who it suits best, or where it fits in the pack's progression. They also don't show any quests that involve it or a place for it on the ATM Star path.
How do you get started with Simple Weather?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
Simple Weather changes how rain and snow look on your screen. The language file I have for this pack shows it as a set of client-side visual settings, not something you craft or build, so there is no first-items list to follow here.[2]
The mod's language file lists a weather override toggle, a group called Rain Settings and a group called Snow Settings. It also lists a particle count option for normal weather and a separate one for thunderstorms.[2]
What you can tweak
- Rain Settings: Full Biome Lookup, Collision Particles Chance, Color Blending Frequency, Lifespan, Alpha, Scale, Turbulence, Range and Calculate AABB.[2]
- Snow Settings: Lifespan, Outer Range, Alpha, Scale and Range.[2]
- Particle Count, and a separate Particle Count in Thunderstorm.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show any in-pack recipes, quests or config files for Simple Weather, so I can't give you a crafting order or say what values these settings have in this pack.
How does Simple Weather work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
The sources for Simple Weather describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item handling. What they do show is a set of client-side settings for how rain and snow look and how many weather particles are drawn, so this section covers those.[2]
Weather override toggle
The mod has a client option for overriding the weather, shown on screen as "Enabled". The sources give no more detail on exactly what it changes.[2]
Rain Settings
Rain has its own group of client options. Each one is listed below under the name the settings screen gives it.[2]
- Full Biome Lookup[2]
- Collision Particles Chance[2]
- Color Blending Frequency[2]
- Lifespan[2]
- Alpha[2]
- Scale[2]
- Turbulence[2]
- Range[2]
- Calculate AABB[2]
From the names alone, the rain particles can be tuned for size, transparency, lifespan, range and turbulence. There is also a chance setting for collision particles and a setting for color blending frequency. The sources do not give default values, ranges or the exact effect of each option.[2]
Snow Settings
Snow has a smaller group of client options, and it includes an Outer Range setting that the rain group does not list.[2]
Particle counts
Particle Count sets how many weather particles are drawn, and a separate option, Particle Count in Thunderstorm, covers thunderstorms. That means thunderstorms can use a different particle count from ordinary weather.[2]
Unverified The sources here show no config files for this mod in the pack, so default values, allowed ranges and any pack-specific changes to these options are unverified. No recipes, quests or worldgen for Simple Weather were found either.
Which Simple Weather config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Simple Weather is configured through a single client-side file, config/simple_weather-client.toml. Almost everything in it matches the mod's defaults in this pack, so you don't need to fix anything to get the intended look. Here are the options you're most likely to tweak.[3]
The one value the pack flags as changed
The only option the pack marks as changed is Snow.snow_particle_scale. It's set to 1.399999976158142 against a mod default of 1.4, with an allowed range of 0.1 to 4.0. That's a tiny difference, so snow looks essentially the same as in the mod's default setup.[3]
Turning the effect on and tuning density
- override_weather is true. It's described as an alternative render to weather, so this is the switch for the mod's custom rain and snow.[3]
- weather_particle_count is 4500 (the mod default, range 100 to 20,000). It sets how many particles get a chance to spawn per tick, and it is shared by rain and snow.[3]
- weather_particle_thunder_count is 7875 (the mod default, same range). It works like the normal count but applies during thunderstorms.[3]
- Rain.rain_range is 22 (range 5 to 64). It controls how far from you rain particles spawn. Lowering it makes rain denser if the weather amount isn't changed.[3]
- Snow.snow_range is 12 and Snow.snow_outer_range is 16 (both range 5 to 64). The outer range is for the secondary layer of snow particles, and lowering either one makes snow denser.[3]
How the weather looks
- Rain.rain_particle_scale is 1.65 and Rain.rain_particle_alpha is 0.8 (1 is fully opaque, minimum 0.2).[3]
- Snow.snow_particle_alpha is 1, so snow is fully opaque.[3]
- Rain.rain_color_blending_frequency is 4 (range 0 to 20). It sets how often rain particles try to take on the biome's color, and 0 turns it off.[3]
- Rain.rain_random is true, which gives rain a slight random appearance instead of falling perfectly straight down.[3]
Particle lifetime and collisions
- Rain.rain_lifetime is 70 (range 10 to 120) and Snow.snow_lifetime is 30 (range 10 to 100). Each is how long a single particle can live without hitting the ground.[3]
- Rain.rain_collision_percent is 100 (range 0 to 100). It controls how often a rain particle can collide with the ground.[3]
Performance-related toggles
Rain.use_cached_aabb is true. It trades memory for performance on the check that decides whether a raindrop should render, and the config notes that it isn't known which setting is better by default. Rain.full_biome_lookup is also true, but the config says it is highly unlikely to change performance in any noticeable way.[3]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as simple_weather, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
Config options (how FTB Skies 2: Aero sets them)
17 settings shipped in the pack's config files; 1 differ from the mod's documented default.
Show settings

Snow.snow_particle_scale changed by FTB Skies 2: AeroChanges the base scaling of the rain particle. config/simple_weather-client.toml | 1.399999976158142 | 1.4 |
override_weather An alternative render to weather config/simple_weather-client.toml | true | not documented |
Rain.full_biome_lookup Note, this is provided purely as an option and is HIGHLY likely not to change any noticeable performance. config/simple_weather-client.toml | true | not documented |
Rain.rain_random Determines if the rain should fall deterministically down, or have a slight random appearance config/simple_weather-client.toml | true | not documented |
Rain.use_cached_aabb There is a calculation done at the start of a rain droplet that determines if the particle should render. This trades memory for performance. At the moment, neither option is known which is better by default. config/simple_weather-client.toml | true | not documented |
Rain.rain_collision_percent How often can a rain particle "collide" with the ground config/simple_weather-client.toml | 100 | 100 |
