What is L_Ender's Cataclysm?
1 part
Cataclysm adds difficult dungeons, challenging boss fights and powerful items. The idea is simple: you beat the bosses to prove yourself and earn strong gear. This pack ships version 3.33 of the mod.[1][2]
Where the quest book puts it
Both chapters that feature Cataclysm sit in the "Exploration & Combat" group. The Bounty Board is chapter 11 of 31 and has 59 quests. The Traveler's Quest is chapter 15 of 31 and has 38 quests. The sources here don't show which chapters sit right before or after them, or the order of quests inside each one.[3][4]
- In the Bounty Board, one quest (untitled in the book, named after its item) is built around Burning Ashes. It tells you to kill Ignis's minions in the Burning Arena and gather enough Dying Ember to craft the Burning Ashes. Using them on the Altar of Fire at the top of the arena summons Ignis. See also a quest in "Bounty Board".[3]
- Also in the Bounty Board, "Dip into the Leviathan's Fishbowl" quest covers the Leviathan fight. Before it, you must craft Abyssal Sacrifice using drops from a Deepling Warlock and a Coralssus, plus plenty of other precious resources.[3]
- In The Traveler's Quest, a quest in "The Traveler's Quest" is another Abyssal Sacrifice quest. It combines a structure task, several kill tasks and the Abyssal Sacrifice item. The other 27 quests in that chapter are in the quest book, but their text isn't covered here, so check the book for what they ask.[4]
How do you get started with L_Ender's Cataclysm?
3 parts
Cataclysm adds difficult dungeons, challenging boss fights and powerful items. Most of your early goals here are about finding a structure, crafting the item that wakes its boss, and then winning the fight.[1]
In the quest book, this content sits in the Exploration & Combat group. Look in the Bounty Board chapter (chapter 11 of 31) and The Traveler's Quest chapter (chapter 15 of 31).[3][4]
Step 1: Find the structures
Cataclysm structures can be far apart, so start with the quest "Adventuring Beyond!" quest. It points you to the Explorer's Compass, which lets you search for any structure and points you toward it.[4]
A good first target is the Burning Arena, a coliseum floating in the Nether's void. The quest "Discover the Burning Arena" quest tells you to defeat the Ignited Revenants for their ashes and light the altar at the top level to face their master.[4]
Step 2: Craft Burning Ashes for Ignis
Before you can summon Ignis, you need to kill his minions in the Burning Arena and gather enough Dying Ember to craft Burning Ashes. Use the ashes on the Altar of Fire at the top of the arena to summon Ignis. The quest a quest in "Bounty Board" in the Bounty Board chapter covers this.[3][5]
Step 3: Prepare the Abyssal Sacrifice for the Leviathan
The Leviathan is the next big step. The quest "Dip into the Leviathan's Fishbowl" quest says you must craft Abyssal Sacrifice first. It needs drops from a Deepling Warlock and a Coralssus, plus plenty of other precious resources. The Traveler's Quest chapter has a matching quest, a quest in "The Traveler's Quest", which also asks for the item.[3][4]
The pack has two recipes for it, so use whichever one you can fill.[6]

How does L_Ender's Cataclysm work?
6 parts
Cataclysm is a dungeon and boss mod. The project page describes it as adding difficult dungeons, challenging boss-fights and powerful items. The sources here show no power, fluid or item-pipe systems for it, so what follows is its special crafting recipes, boss config and structure placement.[1]
Weapon fusion
Some gear is made by fusing two finished items together. The recipe dump lists these under a dedicated recipe type, cataclysm:weapon_fusion. One result is Brontes, shown below.[6]
The same fusion type also turns an Ignitium Chestplate into an Ignitium Elytra Chestplate.[6]
Weapon Fusion (cataclysm)
Recipe id: cataclysm:weapon_infusion/ignitium_elytra_chestplate
Blessing, smithing and metal processing
Amethyst Crab Meat uses its own recipe type, cataclysm:amethyst_bless, to become Blessed Amethyst Crab Meat.[6]
Amethyst Bless (cataclysm)
Recipe id: cataclysm:amethyst_bless/blessed_amethyst_crab_meat
Cursium gear goes through the vanilla smithing table. Cursium Boots come from a smithing transform that uses the Cursium Upgrade Smithing Template.[6]
Ancient metal compresses into a Block of Ancient Metal and unpacks back into Ancient Metal Ingot with the first two recipes below. The last two are the smelting and blasting routes to Ancient Metal Nugget, which use the Ancient Spear and the Khopesh. The furnace recipe is the mod's own, while the dump marks the blasting version as changed by this pack.[6]
Blasting

The pack changed this blasting version of the recipe.
Stonecutting and Create compat
Building blocks lean heavily on the stonecutter. The dump counts 43 stonecutting recipes that turn Cataclysm blocks into other Cataclysm blocks, from 6 different input blocks.[6]

The pack adds Create cutting recipes for the chorus wood set. Any block in the chorus tag becomes 6 Chorus Planks, and the planks can then be cut into a Chorus Fence.[6]

Boss mechanics in the config
Most boss behaviour is tuned in the common config. Each boss has a cap_config section with a damage cap, a DPS cap, a DPS limit time and a range cap. For example, the Leviathan uses 20, 15, 20 and 38 for those four, and all of these match the mod defaults.[7]
The one boss value this pack changes is the Netherite Monstrosity's lava bomb magazine. mobs.netherite_monstrosity.lava_bomb_magazine is 15 here, up from the mod default of 3. The other lava bomb options are untouched:[7]
- mobs.netherite_monstrosity.lava_bomb_amount is 3, the mod default.[7]
- mobs.netherite_monstrosity.lava_bomb_duration is 350, the mod default.[7]
- mobs.netherite_monstrosity.lava_bomb_random_duration is 150, the mod default.[7]
Several bosses have their respawner option turned on: the Ancient Remnant, Ender Guardian, Harbinger, Netherite Monstrosity and Scylla.[7]
The Ender Guardian's block-breaking reach is set by mobs.ender_guardian.block_break_x, mobs.ender_guardian.block_break_y and mobs.ender_guardian.block_break_z. They are 15, 2 and 15, and its ignore_mobgriefing option is true. Keep that in mind before fighting it near your base.[7]
Weapon abilities have their own cooldown options too. tools_and_abilities.astrape.astrape_cooldown is 60 for the Astrape, and tools_and_abilities.infernal_forge.infernal_forge_cooldown is 80 for the Infernal Forge. Both match the mod defaults.[7]
Some fights start in unusual ways. The advancement text says you excavate suspicious sand inside the cursed pyramid to wake the Ancient Remnant, you wake the Harbinger, and you summon Ignis, the Leviathan and Maledictus.[5]
Structure placement
Where dungeons generate is set in the structure placement config, with a spacing, separation and salt per structure. Here are some of the values this pack uses:[9]
- Cursed Pyramid: spacing 80, separation 50.[9]
- Burning Arena and Frosted Prison: spacing 80, separation 50.[9]
- Ruined Citadel: spacing 50, separation 25.[9]
- Sunken City: spacing 100, separation 70.[9]
- Ancient Factory: spacing 112, separation 70.[9]
- Acropolis: spacing 160, separation 120.[9]
Unverified Which structures are enabled at all is set in config/cataclysm/structure_toggle_config.json5, and the sources here do not show that file's contents.
How do you progress through L_Ender's Cataclysm?
6 parts
In this pack, the mod's progression runs through boss quests in two chapters of the Exploration & Combat group. After that come the in-pack recipes for the metals, armor and weapons you can build. The path below follows those.[3][4][6]
Where the quest book puts it
- The Bounty Board chapter (chapter 11 of 31 in the book) holds a quest in "Bounty Board" and "Dip into the Leviathan's Fishbowl" quest. The chapter describes itself as repeatable quests you can complete for some extra cash to spend at the shops.[3]
- The Traveler's Quest chapter (same group, chapter 15 of 31) holds the structure quests "Discover the Burning Arena" quest, "Behold the Acropolis" quest and a quest in "The Traveler's Quest".[4]
Fire path: Ignis
The Burning Ashes quest tells you to kill Ignis's minions inside the Burning Arena and gather enough Dying Ember to craft Burning Ashes. Using the ashes on the Altar of Fire at the top of the arena summons Ignis.[3]
Ocean path: the Leviathan
The Leviathan fight is gated behind Abyssal Sacrifice. The quest says you need drops from a Deepling Warlock and a Coralssus, along with plenty of other precious resources. The pack has two recipes for it: one uses Crystallized Coral and the other uses Coral Chunk.[3][6]

Storm path: the Acropolis
The Acropolis quest describes a complex of pale seastone drifting among the void islands. Near the top is an anchor that lets you challenge a mighty champion of storms. If you win, an Eye of Storms can be used on the pedestal that appears to summon the champion again for a rematch.[4]
The pack also has a crafting recipe for Astrape, and a weapon infusion recipe that turns Astrape into Brontes with an Infernal Forge.[6]

Metals and armor
Ancient Metal Ingot packs into a Block of Ancient Metal, and the block gives 9 ingots back. An ingot also splits into 9 Ancient Metal Nugget. Black Steel Ingot works the same way with the Black Steel Block and Black Steel Nugget. Gear from these metals includes the Ancient Spear, the Black Steel Axe and the Black Steel Hoe.[6]
The Ancient Spear and Khopesh can be smelted or blasted into Ancient Metal Nuggets. Black Steel tools can likewise be smelted or blasted into Black Steel Nuggets. The pack marks both blasting recipes as changed from the mod's own versions.[6]
Cursium armor comes from smithing recipes: Cursium Helmet, Cursium Chestplate, Cursium Leggings and Cursium Boots each have their own.[6]
The chestplate is shown here. The other three Cursium pieces have matching smithing recipes.
Weapon infusion
Several items come from the mod's weapon infusion recipes, which combine two Cataclysm items into a new one. Examples in the pack are The Immolator, Gauntlet of Bulwark, Gauntlet of Maelstrom and Ignitium Elytra Chestplate. The recipe dump counts 7 of these recipes in total.[6]
How does L_Ender's Cataclysm work with other mods?
3 parts
Cataclysm links up with other mods in this pack in three places: two recipes the pack adds, a pair of entity rules, and a few quests in the Bounty Board chapter.[3][6][8]
Recipes that use Cataclysm items
The pack adds a Gateways to Eternity recipe that uses an Eye of Monstrous to make a Gate Pearl. Other mods and vanilla Minecraft chip in too, with the Blood Rune, the Totem Of Undying and the Crimson Cloth all appearing in it. The recipe below shows exactly how they fit together.[6]
Gate Recipe (gateways)
Recipe id: gateways:iron_spells/fallen_kingdom
The second one is a Malum spirit infusion, also added by the pack. It combines Ceraunus with an Monster Token from Ender IO to make the Shield of Cthulhu from Fargo's Talismans.[6]
Spirit Infusion (malum)
Recipe id: ftb:compat/fargostalismans/malum/spirit_infusion/shield_of_cthulhu
Bosses can't be captured or jarred
The pack's own script tags every Cataclysm entity as not supported for capturing, and also blacklists them from Ars Nouveau jars. So don't plan on catching a Cataclysm boss in a capture tool or bottling one up.[8]
Quest book links
Cataclysm shows up in the Bounty Board chapter, which sits in the Exploration & Combat group as chapter 11 of 31 in the quest book. Two of its quests ask for Cataclysm items: a quest in "Bounty Board" asks for Burning Ashes, and "Dip into the Leviathan's Fishbowl" quest asks for the Abyssal Sacrifice.[3]
The same chapter also has two quests with a Gate Pearl item task, "The Priest" quest and "Kill The Archevoker" quest. The Gate Pearl is the output of the Gateways recipe above. Four quests in this chapter aren't covered here, so check the quest book for those.[3][6]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use L_Ender's Cataclysm?
2 parts
In this pack the mod shows up in two chapters of the "Exploration & Combat" group: Bounty Board and The Traveler's Quest. Three quests hand-in items from the mod, and they revolve around two bosses: Ignis and the Leviathan.[3][4]
Bounty Board (chapter 11 of 31)
This chapter has 59 quests. Its intro quest, "The Bounty Board" quest, says the chapter holds repeatable quests you can complete for some extra cash to spend at the shops. Two of them involve the mod.[3]
- a quest in "Bounty Board" asks for Burning Ashes, plus a kill task and a structure task. The quest text says you first kill Ignis's minions in the Burning Arena and gather enough Dying Ember to craft the Burning Ashes. Using them on the Altar of Fire at the top of the arena summons Ignis.[3]
- "Dip into the Leviathan's Fishbowl" quest asks for Abyssal Sacrifice, plus a kill task and a structure task. The quest text says you must craft the Abyssal Sacrifice before fighting the Leviathan, using drops from a Deepling Warlock and a Coralssus, along with plenty of other precious resources.[3]
The Traveler's Quest (chapter 15 of 31)
This chapter has 38 quests, all about finding structures and fighting what lives there. Two entries line up with the mod's content.[4]
- "Discover the Burning Arena" quest has a structure task and three kill tasks. The quest text describes a coliseum floating in the Nether's void: defeat the Ignited Revenants for their smoldering ashes, then ignite the altar at the top level to face their master. It also mentions a Cinderous Soulcaller, used to wake the memory of an ancient champion at the lava-strewn base, and a key that opens the vaults around the arena.[4]
- a quest in "The Traveler's Quest" is a quest the book gives no title of its own. It has five tasks: a structure, three kills and a hand-in of Abyssal Sacrifice. It has no description text, so the sources here do not say which structure or which mobs it wants.[4]
The same item, Abyssal Sacrifice, is asked for in both chapters. The Bounty Board quest text is the place that explains what goes into it.[3][4]
Which L_Ender's Cataclysm config options matter?
5 parts
Good news: the pack leaves almost all of Cataclysm's settings alone. In the main config file, the one value the pack changed from the mod default is the Netherite Monstrosity's lava bomb magazine.[7]
The one changed value
mobs.netherite_monstrosity.lava_bomb_magazine is set to 15 in this pack. The mod default is 3, and the allowed range is 0 to 20. The pack did not touch mobs.netherite_monstrosity.lava_bomb_amount, which stays at its default of 3.[7]
Boss toughness stays at default
Every health and attack multiplier listed for the mobs, for example mobs.leviathan.combat_config.health_multiplier and mobs.leviathan.combat_config.attack_multiplier, is 1, which is the mod default. The weapon, armor and cooldown values I can see in the file also match their defaults, so the numbers you see in the mod's own documentation should hold here.[7]
Mob griefing
The pack sets the ignore mobgriefing option separately for each mob. The sources don't list a default for it, so here is how the pack sets it:[7]
- Set to true for the Ancient Remnant, Ender Guardian, Harbinger, Ignis, Leviathan, Maledictus, Netherite Monstrosity and Scylla, for example mobs.ignis.ignore_mobgriefing_config.ignore_mobgriefing.[7]
- Set to false for the Clawdian, Ender Golem and Kobolediator, for example mobs.clawdian.ignore_mobgriefing_config.ignore_mobgriefing.[7]
Structures
The structure toggle file turns on most Cataclysm structures, including the Sunken City, Ruined Citadel, Acropolis and Cursed Pyramid. Six entries are set to false: abandoned_structures.abandoned_spire, abandoned_structures.abandoned_temple, abandoned_structures.abandoned_village, desert_structures.desert_occupied_village, desert_structures.desert_site and desert_structures.desert_temple.[7][10]
Placement is set per structure with spacing and separation. For example, the Sunken City uses a spacing of 100 and a separation of 70, while the Acropolis uses 160 and 120.[9]
Client options
- client.BossMusic(on/off) is true and client.BossMusicVolume is 1 (range 1 to 100).[11]
- client.ScreenShake(on/off) and client.custombossbar(on/off) are both true.[11]
- client.setFirstPerson(on/off) and client.setThirdPerson(on/off) are true. They control the forced viewpoint change when you are hit by a grab attack.[11]
- client.shadersCompat is false, and client.showLoginNotice(on/off) is false.[11]
What changed in L_Ender's Cataclysm between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships L_Ender's Cataclysm 3.33. The mod was first included in the pack in 1.0.3 or earlier. I have no pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]
Mod changelog highlights
- 3.33 (the version in this pack): the projectiles were optimized, and the uk_ua translation was updated.[2][12]
- 3.32: fixed the Flow and Bolt trims.[13]
Those are the only two mod releases I have changelogs for, so I can't tell you what changed in earlier versions.[12][13]
