What is FTB Pack Companion?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide
This pack ships with FTB Pack Companion version 21.1.22, using the file ftb-pack-companion-21.1.22.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified What FTB Pack Companion actually does in this pack could not be confirmed. No description or in-jar guidebook was available for this mod, so this page doesn't guess at its features.
How do you get started with FTB Pack Companion?
2 parts
There is no crafting order to follow for FTB Pack Companion in this pack. What its language file does show are the things it owns: the Action Pad, the Structure Placer and a block called Player Trigger.[2]
Unverified How you obtain the Action Pad, Structure Placer and Player Trigger in this pack is not shown by the sources here. No recipes or quests for them were available, so there is no recipe block to show.
The shaders prompt
The first thing you may notice is a shaders notice. Shaders are included in the pack but are disabled by default, and the prompt asks whether you want to enable them. The mod warns that shaders can be performance-intensive, can cause issues with certain mods, and may not suit your hardware.[2]
If you enable them and hit problems, you can turn them off again later in the video settings.[2]
Removal lists
The pack also ships a set of per-mod removal files under config/ftbpc/removals. If something you expect from another mod seems to be missing, it's worth checking that mod's file. Here are a few examples.[3][4][5][6]
- lists inscriber/ender_dust.[3]
- lists charcoal_fragment and coal_fragment.[4]
- lists charcoal_9x9 and charcoal_block_9x9.[5]
- lists copper_ingot_from_nugget and copper_nugget.[6]
Unverified The removal lists for Create, Mekanism, Oritech, Modern Industrialization and Productive Metalworks are set in config/ftbpc/removals/create.json, mekanism.json, oritech.json, modern_industrialization.json and productivemetalworks.json. They were too large to include, so the sources here do not show their contents.
How does FTB Pack Companion work?
3 parts
This one is a little different from the machine-heavy mods in the pack. The sources I have don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item handling for FTB Pack Companion, so there is no automation setup to walk you through. What they do show is a few named items and a set of per-mod config files.[2][7]
What the mod names itself
The mod's own language file names these items:[2]
Player-facing screens
The language file also has the text for a shaders notice. It says shaders are included in the pack but disabled by default, and that they can be performance-intensive, cause issues with certain mods, or not suit your hardware. If you enable them and hit problems, you can disable them again in the video settings.[2]
There are also menu conditions for the custom title screen. They compare your current hour against a value, checking whether it is greater than or less than that value. The value must be a number between 0 and 23, in 24-hour format.[2]
The removals configs
The bulk of what this mod has in the pack is a folder of config files for other mods, under config/ftbpc/removals. Each file is just a list of ids. Here are a few examples of what the pack sets:[3][7][8][9][10]
- lists ids such as crushing/raw_zinc, splashing/crushed_raw_copper, pressing/iron_ingot and mixing/brass_ingot.[10]
- lists a long run of sag_milling ids, for example sag_milling/iron_ore and sag_milling/raw_copper.[9]
- lists squeezer and mechanical_squeezer ids for raw ores, for example squeezer/ore/raw_iron.[8]
- holds just inscriber/ender_dust.[3]
- holds compat/mek/processing/aluminum/ingot/from_dust_blasting and compat/mek/processing/aluminum/ingot/from_dust_smelting.[7]
The same pattern repeats for other mods. The pack also has files for , , and more.[4][11][12]
A few more files follow the same shape. lists platinum ids such as pressing/platinum_sheet and crushing/platinum_ore. lists dust ids such as materials/smelting_zinc_dust and materials/blasting_zinc_dust. lists cast_iron_nugget and cast_iron_block.[13][14][15]
Unverified Removals files for Mekanism, Oritech, Modern Industrialization and Productive Metalworks also exist in the pack (config/ftbpc/removals/mekanism.json, oritech.json, modern_industrialization.json and productivemetalworks.json), but the sources here do not show their contents.
Unverified The sources only show the id lists, not a description of how the mod applies them. The folder name and the recipe-style ids suggest these entries are recipes being removed from the named mods, but that is not stated outright.
Which FTB Pack Companion config options matter?
2 parts
There are no single-value options to tweak here. In this pack, FTB Pack Companion is set up through one small file per mod, all inside config/ftbpc/removals. Each file holds a list of entries, and the entries read like recipe ids from that mod. Examples are , and .[3][4][16]
A few of the lists, as this pack sets them
- has a single entry: inscriber/ender_dust.[3]
- lists charcoal_fragment and coal_fragment.[4]
- lists charcoal/raw and charcoal/raw_uncraft.[17]
- lists charcoal_9x9 and charcoal_block_9x9.[5]
- lists tiny_fuel/charcoal, tiny_fuel/coal, tiny_fuel/tiny_charcoal and tiny_fuel/tiny_coal.[18]
- lists copper_ingot_from_nugget and copper_nugget.[6]
- lists cast_iron_block, cast_iron_ingot_from_block, cast_iron_ingot_from_nuggets and cast_iron_nugget.[15]
Patterns worth knowing
Charcoal entries turn up in the files for Chisel, Just Dire Things, Utilitarian, Malum, Actually Additions and Mekanism. Silicon block entries (silicon_block) appear in the Extended AE, AE2 Lightning Tech and FTB Materials files.[4][5][12][16][17][18][19][20][21]
The big lists belong to the ore-processing mods. has many processing/ entries for copper, gold, iron, lead, osmium, tin and uranium. has long crushing/ and splashing/ lists. covers grinder, pulverizer and centrifuge entries.[10][16][22]
Unverified The pack also has config/ftbpc/removals/modern_industrialization.json and config/ftbpc/removals/productivemetalworks.json. Their contents were not available when this page was written, so what they list is unverified.
Unverified The mod's default values were not available, so which of these lists the pack changed from the mod default is unverified.
