What is FTB Pack Companion?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide
This pack ships with FTB Pack Companion version 21.1.22, using the file ftb-pack-companion-21.1.22.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified What FTB Pack Companion actually does in this pack could not be confirmed. No description or in-jar guidebook was available for this mod, so this page doesn't guess at its features.
How do you get started with FTB Pack Companion?
3 parts
FTB Pack Companion is a small helper mod, and in this pack it asks very little of you at the start. The only crafting recipe for one of its items that the pack shows is the Action Pad, so that is the one item to make.[2]
Step 1: Make an Action Pad
The Action Pad has a recipe added by the pack itself. It is a shapeless crafting recipe, so ingredient placement does not matter. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[2]
This recipe is added by the pack, not by the mod itself.
Step 2: Answer the shaders prompt
On world start you will see a shaders notice, because shaders_notice.show_on_start is turned on in this pack. The notice explains that shaders are included but disabled by default, and that they can be performance-intensive and may not work with every mod or your hardware.[3][4]
If you say yes, you can switch them off again later in the video settings. shaders_notice.shader_pack_to_use is empty, so the default or first available shader pack is used.[3][4]
Things you do not need to set up
The spawner options are all switched off in this pack. That covers respawning broken spawners (spawners.allow_respawn), punishing you for breaking them (spawners.punish_for_breaking_spawners), and breaking nearby light sources (spawners.break_light_sources_near_spawners). Spawners behave normally for you.[3]
How does FTB Pack Companion work?
6 parts
FTB Pack Companion is not a machine mod. In this pack it works more like a toolbox: a few utility blocks and items, a set of config switches, and a folder of per-mod recipe lists. So there is no power, fluid or item handling to learn here. What follows is what the pack's files actually show.[3][4]
Items and blocks it adds
The mod's language file names a handful of things: the Action Pad item, the Random Portal (both a block and an item), the Structure Placer item and the Player Trigger block. The sources here only give their names, so I can't tell you what each one does.[4]
The Action Pad is the one with a recipe in the pack. The recipe is added by the pack itself and is shapeless.[2]
Added by the pack. Action Pad is the item it makes.
Spawner settings
Most of the mod's config is about mob spawners, and the pack leaves every one of these switches off. Broken spawners do not come back, because spawners.allow_respawn is false. If you turn it on, the respawn timer is spawners.respawn_interval, which is 60 minutes in the pack and accepts values from 0 to 1,440.[3]
- spawners.break_light_sources_near_spawners is false. When on, light sources near spawners get broken so mobs can spawn.[3]
- spawners.ignore_light_level_for_spawners is false. When on, the light level around spawners is ignored for mob spawning.[3]
- spawners.punish_for_breaking_spawners is false. When on, a punishment effect is applied to a player who breaks a spawner.[3]
- spawners.random_entity is an empty list. A list of entity types here would replace broken spawners, and an empty list disables the feature.[3]
Shaders notice
The pack includes shaders but disables them by default. shaders_notice.show_on_start is true here, so you get a prompt on world start asking if you want to enable them. The mod's own default for this option is false, so that is a pack change. The prompt warns that shaders can be performance-intensive, cause issues with certain mods and may not suit your hardware. If you turn them on and hit problems, you can disable them again in the video settings.[3][4]
shaders_notice.shader_pack_to_use is empty. That tells the mod to use the default or first available shader pack.[3]
Other common settings
- misc.no_wandering_trader_invis_potions is false, so Wandering Traders keep their normal behaviour with invisibility potions and milk.[3]
- misc.forced_game_rules.minecraft:global_sound_events is set to false.[3]
- worldgen.structure_rotation_override.ftb:spawn_pyramid/start is set to "none".[3]
Command feedback filtering
On the server side, the mod can hide an operator's command feedback from other operators. The list command_feedback_filtering.blacklisted_ops holds the UUIDs of the operators whose feedback is hidden, and the feature is disabled if it is empty. The pack fills it in.[6]
command_feedback_filtering.hidden_command_feedback_keys decides which messages are hidden. Keys are matched by prefix, so commands.give.success also covers commands.give.success.single. The pack's list covers feedback for commands such as give, gamemode, teleport, fill, clone, time and weather.[6]
Recipe removal lists
The mod also ships a folder, config/ftbpc/removals, with one JSON file per other mod. Each file is a list of recipe ids from that mod. Judging by the folder name and the contents, these are the recipes the pack takes out, but the sources don't spell out the mechanism. The lists mostly target ingot, dust, plate and alloy processing.[5][7][8][9]
- lists copper_plate, copper_wire and iron_plate.[5]
- lists the aluminum ingot from dust recipes, for both blasting and smelting.[7]
- lists grinding recipes: quartz block to quartz, and raw copper, raw gold and raw iron to ingots or nuggets.[8]
- lists squeezer and mechanical squeezer recipes, mostly for ores.[10]
- covers a long run of recipes: pulverizer, metal press, alloy furnace, energizer, charger and crafting entries for metals such as copper, gold, iron, tin and steel.[9]
- lists alloy smelting recipes and sag milling recipes.[11]
- lists blasting, smelting and crafting entries for materials such as uranium, lead, chromium and stainless steel, plus entries for other mods' alloy smelting and casting.[12]
Other mods with a removals file in the pack include , , , and . Their lists are short, apart from geore, which is longer and covers shard and block recipes.[13][14][15][16][17]
Unverified The removals files for oritech, cakesticklib, hephaestus, ic, occultism and ftbic also exist in config/ftbpc/removals, but their contents are not shown in the sources here, so what they list is unverified.
How do you progress through FTB Pack Companion?
Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide
For FTB Pack Companion, this pack gives you one thing to look at: the Action Pad. There is no tier ladder to climb here, just a single item with a recipe the pack added itself.[18]
The recipe is a shapeless crafting recipe, and the pack's recipe dump lists no item inputs for it. The site shows the exact in-pack recipe below.[18]

Which FTB Pack Companion config options matter?
5 parts
FTB Pack Companion is mostly a settings mod in this pack. Most options sit at their defaults, so the interesting parts are the few the pack flipped and the per-mod removal files. Here is what matters.[3][6]
Shaders notice
shaders_notice.show_on_start is set to true in this pack. The mod default is false. When it is on, the shaders notice appears when you start a world, if shaders are included in the pack.[3]
shaders_notice.shader_pack_to_use is left empty, which is also the default. Empty means the default shader pack, or the first available one in the list, gets used when shaders are enabled.[3]
Spawners
Every spawner tweak is switched off here, and each one matches the mod default. Vanilla spawner behaviour is untouched.[3]
- spawners.allow_respawn is false, so broken spawner blocks are not remembered and do not come back.[3]
- spawners.respawn_interval is 60 minutes, the default. It only matters if respawning is turned on.[3]
- spawners.break_light_sources_near_spawners is false, so light sources near spawners are not broken for you.[3]
- spawners.ignore_light_level_for_spawners is false, so the light level around a spawner still counts for mob spawning.[3]
- spawners.punish_for_breaking_spawners is false, so breaking a spawner applies no punishment effect.[3]
- spawners.random_entity is an empty list, so broken spawners are not replaced with random entity types.[3]
Other common options
- misc.no_wandering_trader_invis_potions is false, the default. Wandering Traders can still drink invisibility potions at night.[3]
- misc.forced_game_rules.minecraft:global_sound_events is set to false.[3]
- worldgen.structure_rotation_override.ftb:spawn_pyramid/start is set to "none" for the spawn pyramid start structure.[3]
Server command feedback
This is where the pack departs from the mod's empty defaults on the server side. command_feedback_filtering.blacklisted_ops holds a list of operator UUIDs whose command feedback is hidden from other operators. The default is an empty list, which disables the feature.[6]
command_feedback_filtering.hidden_command_feedback_keys is also filled in. It lists translation keys such as commands.give.success, commands.gamemode.success and commands.teleport.success. Keys are matched by prefix, so an entry ending in a dot, like commands.effect., covers every key that starts with it. The default is an empty list.[6]
Removal files
The pack also ships one removal file per mod in config/ftbpc/removals, each containing a list of entries. For example, lists red_alloy_ingot, and lists lure_bait. lists steel_compound and steel_ingot.[19][20][21]
Some of these files are long. has many entries, including alloy_smelting and sag_milling ones, and lists smeltery entries.[11][22]
Unverified The removal files for ic, occultism and ftbic (config/ftbpc/removals/ic.json, occultism.json and ftbic.json) exist in the pack, but the sources here do not show their contents, so check those files directly.
