What is Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector?
2 parts
Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector is a small quality-of-life addon for Create Aeronautics and Create Simulated. It lets you place rope connectors from a distance, so you don't have to walk over to every docking point. This pack includes version 0.4.3.[1][2]
Three ways to place a connector
- Throw a Throwable Rope Connector by hand.[1]
- Fire one from the Rope Connector Launcher for longer-range placement.[1]
- Use the Mounted Rope Launcher for ship-mounted anchoring. It also has optional redstone automation.[1]
A successful throw or shot places a normal Create Simulated Rope Connector on a valid block face. You get back a normal Rope Coupling that is already linked to it. Right-click a Rope Winch with that coupling to finish the connection. Failed shots don't consume ammo by default.[1]
In the quest book
The mod has its own quest, "Rope Launchers" quest, in the "Aeronautics" chapter. That chapter sits in the "Main Questline" group as chapter 5 of 31 in the book. The quest asks you to obtain the Throwable Rope Connector, and it comes after the "Ropes" quest.[3]
The quest book gives the reach of each method: a thrown connector anchors up to 10 blocks away, the Rope Connector Launcher fires 20 blocks, and the Mounted Rope Launcher reaches 40 blocks. It also says a redstone pulse fires the mounted launcher along its last aim, so a docking sequence can throw its own lines.[3]
It fits the chapter's docking theme. The quest "Going Places" quest describes its path as docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship and taking it into other dimensions. "Docking Connector" quest also comes after that quest. The rest of the chapter's quests are in the quest book.[3]
How do you get started with Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector?
3 parts
This mod is a small docking helper: it lets you place rope connectors from a distance, so you don't have to climb down and tie up every ship by hand. It works with Create Simulated's ropes, so you will be using those items alongside it.[1][3]
In the quest book, "Rope Launchers" quest sits in the Aeronautics chapter of the Main Questline. It comes after "Ropes" quest, which in turn comes after "Going Places" quest. The quest asks you for a Throwable Rope Connector, and that is where we start.[3]
Step one: the Throwable Rope Connector
This is your ammo, and everything else in the mod uses it, so make it first.[1]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: create_aeronautics_throwable_rope_connector:throwable_rope_connector
Aim at a valid block face and throw it. In this pack it travels up to 10 blocks before it fizzles and returns. On success it places a normal Rope Connector, and the connector you used becomes a Rope Coupling that is already linked. Right-click a Rope Winch with that coupling to finish the connection.[1][4]
Step two: the Rope Connector Launcher
Next comes the Rope Connector Launcher. It fires a connector 20 blocks instead of 10, and that is the mod's default, unchanged by the pack. Keep a Throwable Rope Connector in your other hand when you use it.[3][4][5]

Added by the pack as an ftb_constructor recipe.
Step three: the Mounted Rope Launcher
The Mounted Rope Launcher is the ship-side version. It reaches 40 blocks in this pack, which is the mod's default. It is a block, so you place it on your ship.[3][4][5]

- Right-click the launcher with a Throwable Rope Connector to load ammo.[5]
- Right-click the launcher to mount it.[5]
- Left-click to fire, and right-click to release the anchor. Sneak to dismount.[5]
- For automation, a redstone pulse fires the launcher along its last saved aim. The red marker side fires and the amber marker side releases the anchor.[3][5]
How does Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector work?
5 parts
This mod gives you three ways to place a rope connection from a distance: throwing a Throwable Rope Connector by hand, firing it from the Rope Connector Launcher, or using the Mounted Rope Launcher on a ship. A successful shot places a normal Create Simulated Rope Connector on a valid block face. The connector you used turns into a normal Rope Coupling that is already linked to it.[1]
To finish the link, right-click a Rope Winch with that Rope Coupling.[1]
Throwing by hand
Aim at a valid block face and throw. If it can't attach, you get messages like "Cannot attach there" or "Target is too far away".[1][5]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: create_aeronautics_throwable_rope_connector:throwable_rope_connector
In this pack a thrown connector travels up to 10 blocks before it fizzles and returns (throwing.maxThrowDistance). The launch velocity is 1.5, the same as a snowball (throwing.throwVelocity). Both are the mod defaults.[4]
Rope Connector Launcher
The launcher is the step up from throwing. In this pack it fires a connector up to 20 blocks before the shot fizzles and returns (launcher.launcherMaxDistance), which is the mod default. The game tells you to put a Throwable Rope Connector in your other hand if you try to fire without ammo.[4][5]
The mod's own crafting recipe is a mechanical crafting one:[6]

Recipe id: create_aeronautics_throwable_rope_connector:rope_connector_launcher
The pack also adds a second recipe for the launcher, using a different machine recipe type and different ingredient amounts:[6]
Ftb Constructor (modern_industrialization)
Recipe id: ftb:modern_industrialization/ftb_constructor/create_aeronautics_throwable_rope_connector/rope_connector_launcher
Mounted Rope Launcher
This is the block version, made for anchoring from a ship. It reaches further than the handheld launcher because the block creates the rope link itself. In this pack the range is 40 blocks (mounted.mountedLauncherRange). That is the mod default, and it matches Create Simulated's default max_rope_range in this pack.[4]
Crafting Shaped
| Empty slot | Empty slot | |
Recipe id: create_aeronautics_throwable_rope_connector:mounted_rope_launcher
Here is how you use it, going by the in-game tooltips:[5]
- Right-click the block with a Throwable Rope Connector to load ammo.[5]
- Right-click the block with an empty hand to mount it.[5]
- While mounted: left-click to fire, right-click to release the anchor, and sneak to dismount. The action bar shows your remaining ammo.[5]
- Sneak + right-click with an empty hand to release the anchor from outside the launcher.[5]
- Sneak + right-click with an empty hand to unload the ammo, but only when it isn't connected.[5]
The game also reports what happened: "Anchor connected", "Already connected", "No valid anchor found", "Anchor released", "Launcher blocked" and "No connector loaded". If Create Simulated is missing, you see "Create Simulated integration is unavailable".[5]
Redstone automation
The Mounted Rope Launcher has two marked sides. A redstone pulse on the red marker side fires the launcher using its saved aim. A pulse on the amber marker side releases the anchor.[5]
Firing by redstone is on in this pack (mounted.mountedRedstoneFire). It needs a rising pulse and uses the last saved aim.[4]
Ammo and feedback
Ammo is only consumed after a successful attachment (general.consumeOnSuccessOnly). That applies to hand throws, the handheld launcher and the mounted launcher, so a failed shot doesn't cost you a connector.[1][4]
- general.playParticles spawns particles at the placed connector on success. It is on in this pack.[4]
- general.showFailureMessages shows action bar feedback when the item can't be used. It is on in this pack.[4]
- visual.showProjectileRopeTrail draws a client-side rope-like line for thrown, handheld-launched and mounted-launched projectiles. It is on in this pack.[4]
How do you progress through Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector?
5 parts
This mod has no tiers in the usual sense. It's a short line of three rope tools, each reaching further than the last, and the pack's quest book covers all of them in a single quest, "Rope Launchers" quest.[3]
Where it sits in the quest book
The quest lives in the Aeronautics chapter, which is chapter 5 of 31 in the Main Questline and holds 58 quests. The chapter opens with "Taking to the Skies" quest, and "Going Places" quest is the path that covers docking, ropes, navigation and automated routes. Rope Launchers comes straight after "Ropes" quest, so do the basic ropes first. The quest asks you to obtain the Throwable Rope Connector.[3]
The three steps by reach
- Throwable Rope Connector: a connector you throw by hand. It anchors wherever it lands, up to 10 blocks away.[3]
- Rope Connector Launcher: keep a Throwable Rope Connector in your off hand and the launcher fires it 20 blocks instead.[3]
- Mounted Rope Launcher: the ship-side version, with a 40 block reach.[3]
Step 1: the Throwable Rope Connector
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: create_aeronautics_throwable_rope_connector:throwable_rope_connector
Step 2: the Rope Connector Launcher
The launcher has the mod's own crafting recipe, which uses Create's mechanical crafting. The pack also adds a second recipe for it with a different recipe type and different quantities, so you have two ways to make it.[6]

Step 3: the Mounted Rope Launcher
The mounted version's recipe takes the launcher as part of the craft, so make the launcher before you go for this one.[6]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: create_aeronautics_throwable_rope_connector:mounted_rope_launcher
To use it, right-click to mount it, left-click to fire, and right-click to release the anchor. A redstone pulse fires it along its last aim, so an automated docking sequence can throw its own lines.[3]
How does Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector work with other mods?
2 parts
This mod is a small addon for Create Aeronautics and Create Simulated, so most of its links are to Create Simulated's rope gear. A successful throw or shot places a normal Create Simulated Rope Connector and hands you back a Rope Coupling that is already linked to it. Right-click a Rope Winch with that coupling to finish the connection.[1][6]
Crafting links
The Throwable Rope Connector is a shapeless crafting recipe made from Create Simulated's own rope parts.[6]

In the quest book
The quest "Rope Launchers" quest sits in the Aeronautics chapter (group Main Questline, chapter 5 of 31 in the book) and comes after the Ropes quest. It asks for the Throwable Rope Connector. The quest text gives these ranges: a thrown connector anchors up to 10 blocks away, the launcher fires one 20 blocks when you keep a connector in your off hand, and the Mounted Rope Launcher reaches 40 blocks.[3]
The same quest says the mounted launcher fires on a redstone pulse along its last aim, so a docking sequence can throw its own lines. It also says ammo is only used up when a throw actually sticks. The wider "Going Places" quest quest path covers docking and ropes among other ways of getting around, and it comes after "Taking to the Skies" quest.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector?
3 parts
The Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector mod shows up in one quest in this pack. It sits in the "Aeronautics" chapter, which is chapter 5 of 31 in the quest book, in the "Main Questline" group. The chapter has 58 quests.[3]
The path to the rope launcher quest
The chapter opens with "Taking to the Skies" quest. Most of the other quests branch off it, and the rope quest hangs off the branch called "Going Places" quest. That branch covers docking, ropes, navigation, automated routes, claiming your ship and taking it into other dimensions.[3]
- "Taking to the Skies" quest is the chapter's opening checkmark quest. It explains how a ship flies and points you to the quest paths.[3]
- "Going Places" quest unlocks after it. It is a checkmark quest that introduces the docking, ropes and navigation branch.[3]
- "Ropes" quest comes after Going Places. It asks you to get a Rope Connector and a Rope Coupling. Two connectors and a coupling tie two contraptions together, or a contraption to the ground.[3]
- "Rope Launchers" quest comes after Ropes. This is the quest for this mod.[3]
Rope Launchers
The task is to obtain the Throwable Rope Connector. The quest text sells it as a way to stop climbing down to tie up a ship: you throw the connector and it anchors wherever it lands, up to 10 blocks away.[3]
The quest also covers two launchers. If you keep a connector in your off hand, the Rope Connector Launcher fires it 20 blocks instead. The Mounted Rope Launcher is the ship-side version, with a 40 block reach.[3]
- Right-click the Mounted Rope Launcher to mount it, and left-click to fire.[3]
- Right-click again to release the anchor.[3]
- A redstone pulse fires it along its last aim, so a docking sequence can throw its own lines.[3]
Where the branch goes next
Going Places also leads to "Docking Connector" quest, "Ground Travel" quest, "Navigation Tables" quest and "Aero Portals" quest. After Docking Connector comes "Contraption Claim Block" quest. After Navigation Tables comes "Airship Station" quest. Rope Launchers is the quest that follows Ropes.[3]
Which Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector config options matter?
3 parts
This mod's config covers throwing, launcher, mounted, general and visual settings. One rule applies to every range option: nothing can go past Create Simulated's max_rope_range, which is the absolute cap at runtime.[1][4]
Every range and speed value below is listed in the pack's config with the same number as the mod default, so the pack did not change any of them.[4]
Distances and speed
- throwing.maxThrowDistance is 10 blocks. That is how far a hand-thrown connector travels before it fizzles and returns. The allowed range is 1.0 to 128.0.[4]
- throwing.throwVelocity is 1.5, the projectile launch velocity. Snowballs use the same 1.5. The allowed range is 0.1 to 5.0.[4]
- launcher.launcherMaxDistance is 20 blocks for the Rope Connector Launcher, meant as a step up from throwing by hand. The allowed range is 1.0 to 1,000.0.[4]
- mounted.mountedLauncherRange is 40 blocks for the Mounted Rope Launcher. This matches Create Simulated's default max_rope_range in this pack. It can exceed the handheld launcher's range because the mounted block creates the rope link itself.[4]
Ammo and the Mounted Rope Launcher
- general.consumeOnSuccessOnly is true in this pack. Connector ammo is only used up after a successful attachment, whether you throw by hand, use the handheld launcher or use the mounted launcher.[4]
- mounted.mountedAnchorReleaseMode is set to "REMOVE". The Mounted Rope Launcher can remotely release anchors it placed, which releases the rope and removes the placed connector. The other allowed value is "DISABLED", where remote release does nothing and you have to recover the connector manually.[4]
- mounted.mountedRedstoneFire is true, so a rising redstone pulse fires the Mounted Rope Launcher using its last saved aim.[4]
Feedback and visuals
- general.showFailureMessages is true, so you get action bar feedback when the item cannot be used.[4]
- general.playParticles is true, which spawns particles at the placed connector on success.[4]
- visual.showProjectileRopeTrail is true. It renders a client-side rope-like line for thrown, handheld-launched and mounted-launched connector projectiles.[4]
What changed in Create Aeronautics: Throwable Rope Connector between versions?
2 parts
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Throwable Rope Connector 0.4.3. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier. The mod's own changelogs I have cover 0.4.1 and 0.4.3, and both are mostly about making the Mounted Rope Launcher behave on Sable ships.[2]
0.4.3 (the version in this pack)
- Fixed Mounted Rope Launcher aiming on Sable contraptions, especially for ship-to-ship firing.[7]
0.4.1
- Added Chinese localization, contributed by LogicWheat.[8]
- Fixed Mounted Rope Launcher redstone firing on Sable ships.[8]
- Fixed the launcher's seat positioning, so riding it tracks the ship correctly while the ship moves.[8]
- Fixed mounted aiming desync when the ship rotates after you have mounted.[8]
- Fixed mounted shot alignment, muzzle origin and rope trail origin, so shots line up better with the launcher and crosshair on moving or rotating Sable ships.[8]
