What is Applied Mekanistics?

2 parts

Applied Mekanistics is the official Mekanism support addon for AE2. It connects your ME network to Mekanism's chemicals, so the two big tech systems can finally work together. This pack ships version 1.6.3.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Chemical support for existing AE2 devices. You can put an import bus or export bus on a chemical tank, put a storage bus on a radioactive waste barrel, attach pressurized tubes to interfaces, and use chemicals in crafting recipes.[1]
  • Chemical storage cells in 1k, 4k, 16k and 64k sizes, so you can store gasses in your ME Drives. They don't support radioactive gasses.[1]
  • Chemical P2P tunnels for high-throughput chemical transfer. Right click a Mekanism chemical tank on a P2P tunnel to convert it.[1]
  • QIO support for the Storage Bus, so your ME system can reach the contents of a QIO frequency.[1]

Where the quest book puts it

This mod has no chapter of its own in the pack's quest book. It shows up inside the "Mekanism" chapter, which is chapter 27 of 31 in the book and sits in the "Tech Mods" group.[3]

The mention is in the quest "QIO Storage System" quest, which comes after the Teleportation Cores quest. It introduces Mekanism's QIO system, built around the QIO Drive Array and the QIO Dashboard. The quest explains that Applied Mekanistics lets an ME system reach QIO storage: you place a Dashboard onto an AE2 Storage Bus and set the frequency you want.[3]

The Mekanism chapter has 50 quests, and 28 of them aren't covered here, so check the quest book itself for what follows and for anything else it says about this mod.[3]

Tip: The quest book describes the QIO link as placing a Dashboard onto a Storage Bus and setting the frequency. Follow that wording when you set it up in the pack.[3]

How do you get started with Applied Mekanistics?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Applied Mekanistics is the bridge between AE2 and Mekanism. It adds chemical support to existing AE2 devices, so you can do things like put an import bus or export bus on a chemical tank. It also adds chemical storage cells, which let you keep gasses in your ME Drives. The mod needs both AE2 and Mekanism, so your first steps here are all about chemical storage.[1]

Your first crafts, in order

  1. Craft an ME Chemical Cell Housing. Every chemical cell in the pack is built around it, so it is always the first thing to make. The mod's project page notes that it uses osmium ingots where you might expect iron or copper ingots, so have some osmium ready. The exact in-pack recipe is below.[1][4]
  2. Combine the housing with an ME Storage Component to make a chemical storage cell. The component's size sets the cell's size, so a 1k component gives you the 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell. This is the cheapest way to start storing gasses in an ME Drive.[1][4]
  3. Upgrade when you need more room. This pack has chemical storage cells from 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell and 4k ME Chemical Storage Cell up through 16k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 64k ME Chemical Storage Cell and 256k ME Chemical Storage Cell. Each one is the matching storage component plus a housing.[4]

Taking chemicals with you

If you want a handheld option, the pack also has portable chemical cells in the same sizes, such as the 1k Portable Chemical Cell. Its recipe uses the housing and a storage component plus a couple of extra AE2 parts, so it makes sense to make these after you have the basic cells working.[4]

Watch out: The mod's project page says chemical cells don't support radioactive gasses. Don't plan to put those into a chemical storage cell.[1]

How does Applied Mekanistics work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Applied Mekanistics is the bridge between AE2 and Mekanism. Instead of adding a pile of new machines, it teaches AE2's existing network devices to handle Mekanism chemicals, and adds storage cells so your ME system can hold them.[1]

Chemical support on AE2 devices

The mod's own description lists what this support looks like in practice. These are the setups it gives as examples:[1]

  • An import bus can sit on a chemical tank.[1]
  • An export bus can sit on a chemical tank.[1]
  • A storage bus can sit on a radioactive waste barrel.[1]
  • Pressurized tubes can attach to interfaces.[1]
  • Chemicals can be used in crafting recipes.[1]

Chemical P2P tunnels

Chemical P2P Tunnels are there for high-throughput chemical transfer. To set one up, right click any Mekanism chemical tank on a P2P tunnel and it converts.[1]

QIO storage bus support

The Storage Bus can also interact with the contents of a QIO frequency. Place the storage bus on the side of a QIO Dashboard.[1]

Chemical storage cells

The mod adds chemical storage cells that go into your ME Drives, so you can store gasses in your ME system. The project page lists 1k, 4k, 16k and 64k tiers, but this pack also has a 256k ME Chemical Storage Cell, so the page is not the full picture here. The others are 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 4k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 16k ME Chemical Storage Cell and 64k ME Chemical Storage Cell.[1][4][5]

Watch out: The mod's project page states that the chemical cells do not support radioactive gasses.[1]

Every cell starts with the ME Chemical Cell Housing. Here is the in-pack recipe:[4]

Recipe id: appmek:chemical_storage_cell_1k

Portable chemical cells

There are also portable versions in the same tiers, from 1k Portable Chemical Cell and 4k Portable Chemical Cell up through 16k Portable Chemical Cell and 64k Portable Chemical Cell to 256k Portable Chemical Cell. Each one is crafted from the housing together with a matching storage component, an ME Chest and an Energy Cell. Here is the 1k version:[4][5]

How do you progress through Applied Mekanistics?

2 parts

In the pack's quest book, Applied Mekanistics shows up in the Mekanism chapter (group "Tech Mods", chapter 27 of 31 in the book), in the "QIO Storage System" quest quest. That quest's text says the mod allows an ME System to access a QIO storage: you place a Dashboard onto an AE2 Storage Bus and set the desired frequency.[3]

The quest path to the QIO bridge

Here is the route the quest book's "after" links lay out through the Mekanism chapter to reach that quest. Some quests in this chapter, like the Chemical Infuser one, describe only a first use of a machine (their text says "for now"), so read each quest for its full text.[3]

  1. The book starts with "Welcome To Mekanism!" quest, then "The Metallurgic Infuser" quest.[3]
  2. Next it lists "Carbon Infusion" quest and then "Machine Casings" quest, which is followed by "The Enrichment Chamber" quest.[3]
  3. After the Enrichment Chamber quest comes "Diamond Infusions" quest, which is followed by "Reinforced Alloy" quest and then "Elite Control Circuit" quest.[3]
  4. Diamond Infusions is also followed by "Refined Obsidian Dust" quest. Together with Reinforced Alloy, that is what the book requires before "Atomic Alloys" quest.[3]
  5. The book requires both Elite Control Circuit and Atomic Alloys before "Ultimate Control Circuit" quest.[3]
  6. "Teleportation Cores" quest follows that, and "QIO Storage System" quest follows it.[3]

After the QIO Storage System quest, the book continues with "QIO Drives" quest, "Portable QIO Dashboard" quest and "QIO Importing & Exporting" quest.[3]

Tip: The QIO Storage System quest describes the bridge like this: put a QIO Dashboard on an AE2 Storage Bus and set the frequency of the QIO Drive Array you want to reach. Items can be accessed from any Dashboard connected to that frequency.[3]

Chemical cell tiers

The chemical cells are the other part of the mod in this pack. Everything starts from the ME Chemical Cell Housing, and the pack has changed its recipe from the mod's own.[6]

How does Applied Mekanistics work with other mods?

3 parts

Applied Mekanistics is the bridge between two big tech mods: it needs both AE2 and Mekanism, and everything it adds sits where the two meet. Here is how that shows up in the pack's recipes and quests.[1]

Chemical cells: AE2 parts meet Mekanism metal

Everything starts with the ME Chemical Cell Housing. The pack changes this recipe, so check the in-pack version below rather than relying on what you remember from the mod's own page. It is where AE2 meets Mekanism: the glass side comes from AE2's Quartz Glass, and the Mekanism quest chapter opens by asking you for Osmium Ingot.[3][6]

Recipe id: appmek:chemical_cell_housing

This is the in-pack recipe, changed by the pack.

Once you have a housing, the chemical storage cells are shapeless crafts that use an AE2 storage component of the matching size. The pack has recipes for 1k, 4k, 16k, 64k and 256k chemical storage cells, for example the 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell and the 256k ME Chemical Storage Cell.[6]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appmek:chemical_storage_cell_1k

The portable versions, like the 1k Portable Chemical Cell, follow the same idea but also bring in an ME Chest and an Energy Cell from AE2. They come in the same sizes as the chemical storage cells.[6]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appmek:portable_chemical_cell_1k

Every one of these cells also has a matching AE2 storage cell disassembly recipe in the pack, so you can take a cell apart again.[6]

Watch out: The mod's own description says chemical cells do not support radioactive gases, so don't plan to store them in an ME Drive.[1]

Chemicals on AE2 devices

Beyond the cells, the mod teaches existing AE2 devices to handle chemicals. According to the mod's description, you can put an import bus or export bus on a chemical tank, put a storage bus on a radioactive waste barrel, attach pressurized tubes to interfaces, and use chemicals in crafting recipes.[1]

It also adds Chemical P2P Tunnels for high-throughput chemical transfer. Right click any Mekanism chemical tank on a P2P tunnel to convert it.[1]

QIO storage and the quest book

The quest "QIO Storage System" quest covers the other big link. It asks for a QIO Drive Array and a QIO Dashboard, and says Applied Mekanistics lets an ME system reach QIO storage. Place the Dashboard on an AE2 Storage Bus and set the frequency you want.[3]

That quest sits in the Mekanism chapter, in the Tech Mods group (chapter 27 of 31 in the book), and comes after Teleportation Cores. The chapter has 50 quests in total, and the quest book tells the rest of them.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Applied Mekanistics?

3 parts

In the pack's quest book, the Mekanism chapter (group "Tech Mods", chapter 27 of 31, 50 quests) is where Applied Mekanistics comes up. The quest text for QIO Storage System is the one that mentions the mod.[3]

The quest that mentions the mod

"QIO Storage System" quest asks you for a QIO Drive Array and a QIO Dashboard. Its text explains that QIO is Mekanism's wireless, power-free, expandable digital storage, and that items can be reached from any Dashboard connected to the frequency of a Drive Array.[3]

The quest text says that Applied Mekanistics allows an ME System to access a QIO storage by placing a Dashboard onto an AE2 Storage Bus and setting the desired frequency.[3]

The path to get there

The quest book lists these quests as prerequisites, one after another, on the way to the QIO Storage System quest:[3]

  1. "Welcome To Mekanism!" quest is the first quest in this line and asks for an Osmium Ingot.[3]
  2. "The Metallurgic Infuser" quest lists the Welcome quest as its prerequisite and asks for the Metallurgic Infuser. "Carbon Infusion" quest lists the Infuser quest as its prerequisite.[3]
  3. "Machine Casings" quest lists Carbon Infusion as its prerequisite and asks for the Steel Casing.[3]
  4. "The Enrichment Chamber" quest lists Machine Casings as its prerequisite. "Diamond Infusions" quest lists the Enrichment Chamber quest as its prerequisite and asks for Enriched Diamond.[3]
  5. "Reinforced Alloy" quest and "Refined Obsidian Dust" quest both list Diamond Infusions as their prerequisite. "Elite Control Circuit" quest lists Reinforced Alloy as its prerequisite.[3]
  6. "Atomic Alloys" quest lists both Reinforced Alloy and Refined Obsidian Dust as prerequisites, and asks for Atomic Alloy.[3]
  7. "Ultimate Control Circuit" quest lists both Elite Control Circuit and Atomic Alloys as prerequisites, and asks for the Ultimate Control Circuit.[3]
  8. "Teleportation Cores" quest lists the Ultimate Control Circuit quest as its prerequisite and asks for the Teleportation Core.[3]
  9. "QIO Storage System" quest lists Teleportation Cores as its prerequisite. This is the quest whose text covers Applied Mekanistics.[3]

Teleportation Cores also unlock "Quantum Entangloporters" quest, "Making Portals!" quest and "The Digital Miner" quest, so you can pick the order that suits you.[3]

What comes after

Three more quests list the QIO Storage System quest as their prerequisite:[3]
