What is Apothic-Spawners?
1 part
Apothic Spawners is the spawner module of Apotheosis. It lets you pick up Mob Spawners with silk touch and modify them with vanilla items, so you can build faster and more efficient spawners.[1]
Changes are made with Spawner Modifiers. You hold one or two input items and right-click the spawner, and each modifier has its own caps on the stats it changes. The mod also adds the Capturing enchantment for swords, which gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg. Those eggs change which mob a spawner produces.[1]
This pack includes Apothic-Spawners 1.4.0.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book covers the mod in the quest "Spawner Farms" quest. It is in the "Generating Resources" chapter, in the "Resources & Logistics" group. That is chapter 8 of 31 in the book, and the chapter has 99 quests. The quest asks for Spawner Chain and Spawner.[3]
The quest tells you to break a spawner with a silk touch pickaxe to move it, and to use a mob egg to change what it spawns. It also says that exploding a spawner drops Spawner Chains, which are used to craft upgrades. For the upgrade recipes it points you to JEI.[3]
In the quest text I can see, Spawner Farms has no prerequisite quest, and no visible quest lists it as a prerequisite. Most of the chapter's quest text is not shown to me, so check the book for anything that follows it. A nearby topic is "Mob Grinding" quest, which suggests pairing a Mob Masher with an Apotheosis spawner.[3]
The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.[3]
How do you get started with Apothic-Spawners?
2 parts
Apothic Spawners is all about picking up Mob Spawners, changing what they spawn, and upgrading them into proper mob farms. In this pack the quest book covers it in the quest "Spawner Farms" quest, in the chapter "Generating Resources" (group "Resources & Logistics", chapter 8 of 31). That quest asks you for a Spawner and Spawner Chain.[3]
Your first steps, in order
- Get a pickaxe with Silk Touch and break a spawner with it. That is how you move one. In this pack the config option [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]] is 1, so Silk Touch level 1 is enough, and each harvest deals 100 durability damage to the tool ([[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]]). Bring a tool you can afford to wear down.[1][3][4]
- Pick what it spawns. Use a spawn egg of the mob you want on the spawner to turn it into a custom, non-vanilla spawner. Spawners also keep their mob when broken, because [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] is false.[3][4]
- Collect eggs with the Capturing enchantment. It goes on swords and gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg. The pack's drop chance is 0.005 per level, where 1 would be 100% ([[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]]), so expect to be patient.[1][4][5]
- Explode a spawner to get Spawner Chains. The quest book says these are used to craft the upgrades you apply to your spawners. For the more advanced upgrades you will need a more Advanced Enchantment Setup.[3]
- Apply modifiers. A Spawner Modifier takes one or two items held in your hands, and you right-click the spawner to apply its stat change. Each modifier has its own caps on the stats it changes. The quest book tells you to check the spawner recipes in JEI to see which items to use.[1][3]
What the upgrades change
Spawners have stats such as minimum and maximum spawn delay, spawn count, max nearby entities, required player range and spawn range. Hovering over a modified stat shows a description of it and the modifier's own limit. The mod also adds more advanced stats like Ignore Players, Redstone Control, No AI and Echoing, which makes spawned mobs drop an additional copy of their loot table.[1]
Once your spawner is running, the quest book suggests pairing it with Mob Grinding Utils. Its Mob Masher grinds up anything it touches, and Looting Upgrades make it drop more loot. See the quest "Mob Grinding" quest for the setup.[3]
How does Apothic-Spawners work?
5 parts
Apothic Spawners doesn't add machines, power or fluids. It's all about the mob spawners you already know: you can pick them up, change their stats and swap the mob they spawn. The sources don't describe any other machine or multiblock for this mod, so everything below is about spawners themselves.[1]
Collecting spawners
Spawners can be collected with Silk Touch. In this pack the level needed is set by [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]], which is 1, the same as the mod default. Setting it to -1 disables collection and 0 makes spawners always drop. Each harvest damages your tool by the amount in [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]], which is 100 here.[1][4]
[[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] is false in this pack, so a broken spawner doesn't clear the mob it contains. Mobs that come out of a spawner are also stopped from despawning for a while: [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Entity Despawn Delay]] is 600 ticks.[4]
The in-game spawner info text changes depending on these settings. It tells you whether Silk Touch collection works, whether spawners always drop, or whether Silk Touch collection is currently disabled.[5]
Spawner stats
Every spawner has a set of stats that control how it behaves. Vanilla provides the basic ones:[1]
- Minimum Spawn Delay: the lower bound, in ticks, of the time between spawns.[1]
- Maximum Spawn Delay: the upper bound, in ticks, of the time between spawns.[1]
- Spawn Count: the upper bound on how many entities are spawned at once.[1]
- Max Nearby Entities: how many entities of the spawning type can be nearby before spawning stops.[1][5]
- Required Player Range: the radius, in blocks, a player must be within for the spawner to be active.[1]
- Spawn Range: the radius, in blocks, in which the spawner tries to place mobs.[1]
The mod adds more advanced stats on top of those:[1]
- Initial Health: the percentage of max health that mobs spawn with.[1]
- Ignore Players: the spawner activates even with no player in range.[1]
- Ignore Conditions: the spawner ignores all spawn rules for the spawned entity.[1]
- Redstone Control: the spawner only works when it gets a redstone signal.[1]
- Ignore Light: the spawner will spawn the target entity regardless of light level.[1]
- No AI: spawned mobs have the No AI flag, but gravity and outside force still move them.[1]
- Silent: spawned mobs have the Silent flag and make no sound.[1]
- Youthful: spawned mobs are babies when possible.[1]
- Burning: mobs spawn on fire.[1]
- Echoing: spawned mobs drop an additional copy of their loot table on death.[1]
Spawner modifiers
To change a stat you use a Spawner Modifier. These are recipes that take one or two input items held in your hands, and they apply their stat change when you right-click a spawner. Each modifier has its own caps on the stats it changes, and one modifier can change more than one stat at once.[1]
Hover over a modified stat to see its description and the modifier-specific minimum or maximum value. You can look up which items do what in the recipe viewer under the Spawner Modification category, and the Jade tooltip plugin also has an entry for spawners.[1][5]
The mod's advancements give a nice roadmap of what you can push a spawner to. They ask you to lower both the minimum and maximum delay to 20, raise the spawn count to 16, the max nearby entities to 32, the spawn range to 32 and the player activation range to 48. The final one asks for a spawner with minimal delays, redstone control, no AI, ignoring spawn conditions and ignoring players.[5]
Changing the mob: Capturing and spawn eggs
The Capturing enchantment goes on swords and gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg on death. A spawn egg can then be used to change the type of mob a spawner spawns.[1][5]
The chance is per level of the enchantment, and [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]] is set to 0.005 in this pack, where 1 means 100%. That matches the mod default, and the allowed range is 0.001 to 1.0.[4]
Mobs the pack blocks
This is one place where the pack differs from the mod. [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#spawn_eggs.Banned Mobs]] lists entities that can't be applied to a spawner with an egg, and it supports regex. The mod default only bans the warden and the elder guardian. The pack's list also includes the wither and all Productive Bees entities.[4]
The pack's scripts back this up. Productive Bees entities are added to the blacklisted_from_spawners entity tag, and the wither is covered by a datapack entry for that same tag. Cataclysm entities are added to the capturing_not_supported tag, so Cataclysm bosses can't be captured.[6]
How do you progress through Apothic-Spawners?
3 parts
Apothic Spawners doesn't get a long tier ladder in this pack's quest book. It's covered by one quest, "Spawner Farms" quest, in the "Generating Resources" chapter. That chapter is chapter 8 of 31 in the book, in the "Resources & Logistics" group. The book lists no quest that you must finish before it.[3]
The Spawner Farms quest
The quest asks you to hand in Spawner and Spawner Chain. Those two items are the whole progression: get a spawner, then get chains to upgrade it.[3]
- Move a spawner by breaking it with a pickaxe that has Silk Touch.[3]
- Change what it spawns by using a Mob Egg of the monster you want on it. This gives you a custom, non-vanilla spawner.[3]
- Explode a spawner to get Spawner Chains, which are used to craft the upgrades you apply to your spawners.[3]
- Build a more Advanced Enchantment Setup when you want the more advanced spawner upgrades.[3]
The quest tells you to check the recipes for a spawner in JEI to see which items to use. I'm not listing individual upgrade tiers or their recipes here, because the quest book doesn't spell them out.[3]
Unverified The names, order and effects of the individual spawner upgrades, and the recipes for them, are not confirmed in the pack sources available for this guide.
Putting a spawner to work
The "Mob Grinding" quest quest suggests pairing an Apotheosis spawner with Mob Grinding Utils. It points out that the Mob Masher grinds up anything it touches and can take Looting Upgrades for more loot from kills.[3]
What a spawner can't hold
The pack's own script adds every Productive Bees entity to the apothic_spawners:blacklisted_from_spawners entity tag. A datapack adds the Wither to the same tag. So you can't build a spawner farm for bees, and you'll want a different approach for them. The "Productive Bees" quest quest starts the bee path.[3][6]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Apothic-Spawners?
2 parts
Apothic Spawners has one quest in the pack, and it sits in the "Generating Resources" chapter. That chapter is in the "Resources & Logistics" group and is chapter 8 of 31 in the quest book. It covers many resource-farming mods, and the book gives it 99 quests.[3]
Spawner Farms
The quest is "Spawner Farms" quest. It asks you to hand in two items: Spawner Chain and Spawner. The book lists no earlier quest that you must finish first.[3]
The quest text explains the basics of the mod. You can relocate and upgrade mob spawners to build your own mob farms. Using a Mob Egg of the monster you want on a spawner changes it into a custom, non-vanilla spawner.[3]
- Moving a spawner: break it with a pickaxe that has Silk Touch.[3]
- Changing what it spawns: use a Mob Egg of the monster you want on the spawner.[3]
- Getting upgrades: exploding a spawner drops Spawner Chains, which are used to craft the upgrades you apply to your spawners.[3]
- Advanced upgrades: these need a more Advanced Enchantment Setup. The quest tells you to check the spawner's recipes in JEI to see which items to use.[3]
A related quest: Mob Grinding
In the same chapter, "Mob Grinding" quest covers automated mob farms with Mob Grinding Utils. It asks for Mob Masher, Mob Fan and Entity Conveyor. Its text suggests combining the Mob Masher with an Apotheosis spawner for a strong setup, so the two quests go well together.[3]
Which Apothic-Spawners config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Most of what you will want to tweak lives in one file, [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]] sits alongside the rest of it. This pack changes only one thing from the mod defaults that the sources confirm: the list of mobs that can't be put into spawners with eggs. Everything else below is at the mod default.[7]
The one change: banned mobs
[[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#spawn_eggs.Banned Mobs]] is a list of entity names that can't be applied to a spawner with an egg, and it supports regex. The mod default bans only minecraft:warden and minecraft:elder_guardian. This pack bans those two and also adds minecraft:wither, productivebees:configurable_bee, productivebees:spawn_egg_configurable_bee and productivebees:*, so no Productive Bees entity can go into a spawner.[7]
Silk touch and harvesting
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]] is 1, the mod default. That is the silk touch level you need to harvest a spawner. Setting it to -1 disables harvesting and 0 makes spawners always drop.[7]
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]] is 100, the mod default. That is the durability damage your tool takes when it silk touches a spawner.[7]
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] is false, the mod default. A broken spawner does not clear the entity it contains.[7]
Capturing and despawning
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]] is 0.005, the same as the mod default. It is the per-level chance (1 means 100%) that a mob drops its Spawn Egg when you use Capturing.[7]
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Entity Despawn Delay]] is 600 ticks, the mod default. Mobs are prevented from despawning for that long after they spawn.[7]
What changed in Apothic-Spawners between versions?
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Apothic-Spawners 1.4.0 (file ApothicSpawners-1.21.1-1.4.0.jar). The mod was first included in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a long time.[2]
Unverified The list of changes in Apothic-Spawners 1.4.0, and any changes between earlier versions, could not be confirmed from the material available for this guide. No pack changelog entries for this mod were available either, so this page does not list individual changes.
