What is Apothic-Spawners?
2 parts
Apothic Spawners is the Spawner Module of Apotheosis. It lets you pick up Mob Spawners and tune them with vanilla items, so you can build faster and more efficient mob farms. This pack includes version 1.4.0.[1][2]
What it does
- Mob Spawners can be picked up with silk touch.[1]
- Spawners have vanilla stats such as Minimum Spawn Delay, Maximum Spawn Delay, Spawn Count, Max Nearby Entities, Required Player Range and Spawn Range.[1]
- Apotheosis adds more advanced stats, including Initial Health, Ignore Players, Ignore Conditions, Redstone Control, Ignore Light, No AI, Silent, Youthful, Burning and Echoing.[1]
- To change those stats you use a Spawner Modifier. These are recipes that take one or two input items held in your hands, and you right-click a spawner to apply the change. Each modifier has its own caps, and one modifier can change several stats at once.[1]
- The Capturing enchantment goes on swords and gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg. A spawn egg can change the type of mob a spawner produces.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
The mod is covered in the chapter "Generating Resources", in the group "Resource Automation". It is chapter 8 of 41 in the book and has 113 quests. The relevant quest is "Spawner Farms" quest, labelled "From Apotheosis", which asks for Spawner Chain and Spawner. The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.[3]
In the quests I can see, Spawner Farms lists no quest that must come before it, and none of the visible quests list it as a prerequisite. Most of the chapter's quests (94 of 113) are not shown to me, so read the quest book for the rest of the order.[3]
The quest explains the basics: break a spawner with a silk touch pickaxe to move it, and use a mob egg to change what it spawns. Exploding a spawner drops Spawner Chains, which are used to craft upgrades for your spawners. More advanced upgrades need a more advanced enchantment setup, and the quest points you to the spawner recipes in JEI.[3]
The nearby quest "Mob Grinding" quest suggests combining the Mob Masher from Mob Grinding Utils with an Apotheosis spawner for a strong mob farm.[3]
How do you get started with Apothic-Spawners?
3 parts
Apothic Spawners is all about picking up Mob Spawners, changing what they spawn, and tuning their stats. There is nothing to craft before you start, because no recipes produce this mod's items. Your first steps are about getting a spawner and learning what you can do with it.[1][3]
Your first steps
- Get a pickaxe with Silk Touch. That is how you pick up a spawner. In this pack the Silk Touch level needed is 1 ([[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]]), and each spawner you collect deals 100 durability damage to the tool ([[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]]). Bring a tool you can afford to wear down.[1][3][4]
- Break a Spawner and keep it. Spawners do not clear their mob when broken here ([[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] is false), so the one you carry home keeps its mob type.[3][4]
- Change the mob if you want something different. A spawn egg of the mob you want, used on the spawner, switches it. Eggs come from the Capturing enchantment on a sword, which gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg on death.[1][3]
- Start modifying it. Spawner modifiers are recipes that take one or two items held in your hands, and applying them means right-clicking the spawner. Hover over the modified stats to see what each one does and the cap that modifier allows.[1]
- Collect Spawner Chain by exploding a spawner. Chains are used to craft the spawner upgrades. The quest book says the more advanced upgrades need a more advanced enchantment setup, and to check a spawner's recipes in JEI to see which items to use.[3]
Things to know before you hunt for eggs
Capturing is slow in this pack. The drop chance is 0.005 per level, where 1 would be 100% ([[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]]). Expect to kill a lot of mobs.[4]
The pack also changed which mobs you can put into a spawner with an egg. The banned list ([[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#spawn_eggs.Banned Mobs]]) covers the warden, the elder guardian and the wither, plus every Productive Bees entity. The mod default only bans the warden and the elder guardian.[4]
Where to go next
The quest book covers this in "Spawner Farms" quest, in the Generating Resources chapter (Resource Automation group). It is marked as coming from Apotheosis. To turn a spawner into a working farm, "Mob Grinding" quest suggests pairing it with Mob Grinding Utils, whose Mob Masher grinds mobs and can take Looting Upgrades.[3]
How does Apothic-Spawners work?
5 parts
Apothic Spawners is all about moving and modifying mob spawners. There are no machines, power, fluids or item pipes here. The whole mod is a set of spawner stats, the items that change them, and one enchantment that helps you get new mob types.[1]
Collecting spawners
Spawners can be picked up with Silk Touch. In this pack the required Silk Touch level is set by [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]], which is 1, the same as the mod default. Setting it to -1 disables collecting, and 0 makes spawners always drop.[4][5]
Each pickup costs your tool durability. [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]] is 100 in this pack, which is also the mod default. [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] is false, so a broken spawner is not told to clear the mob it contains.[4]
Spawner stats
Every spawner has stats that control its behaviour. The basic ones come from vanilla:[1]
- Minimum Spawn Delay and Maximum Spawn Delay: the lower and upper bound, in ticks, of the time between spawns.[1][5]
- Spawn Count: the upper bound on how many entities are spawned at once.[1][5]
- Max Nearby Entities: how many entities of the spawning type can be nearby before spawning stops.[1]
- Required Player Range: the radius in blocks a player must be within for the spawner to be active.[1]
- Spawn Range: the radius in blocks the spawner will try to spawn entities in.[1][5]
Apotheosis adds more advanced stats on top. Some are numbers and some are on/off switches:[1]
- Initial Health: the percentage of max health that mobs spawn with.[1][5]
- Ignore Players: the spawner activates even without a player in range.[1]
- Ignore Conditions: the spawner ignores all spawn rules for the spawned entity.[1]
- Ignore Light: the spawner spawns its mob at any light level.[1]
- Redstone Control: the spawner must be activated by a redstone signal. This is the only automation hook the sources describe.[1][5]
- No AI: spawned mobs get the No AI flag, but gravity and external force still move them.[1]
- Silent: spawned mobs make no sound.[1]
- Youthful: if possible, spawned mobs are babies.[1]
- Burning: mobs spawn on fire.[1]
- Echoing: spawned mobs drop an additional copy of their loot table on death.[1]
Spawner modifiers
To change a stat you use a Spawner Modifier. A modifier takes one or two input items, which you hold in your hands, and you right-click the spawner to apply the change. Each modifier has its own cap on the stats it changes, and one modifier can change several stats at once. Hover over a modified stat to see its description and the modifier-specific min or max value.[1]
The exact inputs for each modifier are not covered by the sources I was given. In game, look at the Spawner Modification category in EMI, or check JEI, which the mod's own advancement points you to.[5]
The mod also has advancements that set stat targets for you: minimum and maximum spawn delay down to 20, spawn count up to 16, max nearby entities up to 32, spawn range up to 32 and player activation range up to 48. The final one asks for an ultimate spawner with minimal delays, redstone control, no AI, ignored spawn conditions and ignored players.[5]
Capturing and spawn eggs
The Capturing enchantment goes on swords and gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg on death. You can then use a spawn egg to change the type of mob a spawner spawns.[1][5]
In this pack [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]] is 0.005 per level, where 1 would be 100%. That matches the mod default.[4]
A pack script also adds all Productive Bees entities and the wither to the apothic_spawners:blacklisted_from_spawners entity tag, so expect those mobs to be off limits for spawners.[6]
Despawn protection
Mobs from a spawner are kept from despawning for a short time after they appear. [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Entity Despawn Delay]] is 600 ticks in this pack, the same as the mod default.[4]
How do you progress through Apothic-Spawners?
3 parts
In this pack, Apothic Spawners progression is told by a single quest, "Spawner Farms" quest (Spawner Farms), in the Generating Resources chapter. That chapter is in the Resource Automation group and is chapter 8 of 41 in the quest book. The quest asks you to get hold of Spawner Chain and Spawner. It doesn't list any quest that must be finished first.[3]
The path the quest lays out
- Break a mob spawner with a pickaxe that has Silk Touch to relocate it.[3]
- Use a Mob Egg of the monster you want on the spawner to change it into a custom, non-vanilla spawner.[3]
- Explode a spawner to get Spawner Chains. These are the material for crafting the upgrades you apply to your spawners to improve their abilities.[3]
- For the more advanced spawner upgrades, build a more Advanced Enchantment Setup. The quest points you to the spawner's recipes in JEI to see which items each upgrade needs.[3]
The Mob Grinding quest ("Mob Grinding" quest) suggests pairing a spawner with the Mob Masher from Mob Grinding Utils for a farm that kills for you.[3]
What this pack changes
The pack's own script adds every Productive Bees entity, plus the Wither, to the tag that blacklists mobs from spawners. So you can't turn a spawner into a bee or Wither spawner here, whatever the mod does by default.[6]
Upgrade tiers
Unverified The sources don't give a list of spawner upgrade tiers, their stat values, or their crafting recipes, so none are described here. Check the spawner recipes in JEI, as the quest suggests. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Apothic-Spawners?
2 parts
Apothic Spawners only shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: "Generating Resources". It sits in the "Resource Automation" group and is chapter 8 of 41 in the quest book. The chapter has 113 quests, mostly about farming mods like Mystical Agriculture, Productive Bees and Hostile Neural Networks, and it opens with "Resource Generation" quest, a checkmark quest that introduces the chapter.[3]
Spawner Farms
The quest that covers the mod is "Spawner Farms" quest, which the book labels "From Apotheosis". It asks you to hand in Spawner Chain and Spawner. The book lists no earlier quest that has to be finished first.[3]
The quest text explains the basics of how the mod works in this pack. Here is the rundown:[3]
- To move a spawner, break it with a pickaxe that has Silk Touch.[3]
- To change what a spawner makes, use a Mob Egg of the monster you want on it. This gives you custom, non-vanilla spawners.[3]
- Exploding a spawner drops Spawner Chains. You craft these into upgrades that you can apply to your spawners to improve their abilities.[3]
- More advanced spawner upgrades need a more Advanced Enchantment Setup.[3]
- For which items to use, the quest tells you to check the spawner's recipes in JEI.[3]
Related quest
"Mob Grinding" quest is a separate quest in the same chapter. It asks for Mob Masher, Mob Fan and Entity Conveyor, and its text suggests pairing Mob Grinding Utils with an Apotheosis spawner for a mob farm setup.[3]
Which Apothic-Spawners config options matter?
3 parts
Most of what you will want to tweak lives in one file, [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]] sits alongside the rest of it. This pack changes only one thing from the mod defaults that the sources confirm: the list of mobs that can't be put into spawners with eggs. Everything else below is at the mod default.[4]
The one change: banned mobs
[[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#spawn_eggs.Banned Mobs]] is a list of entity names that can't be applied to a spawner with an egg, and it supports regex. The mod default bans only minecraft:warden and minecraft:elder_guardian. This pack bans those two and also adds minecraft:wither, productivebees:configurable_bee, productivebees:spawn_egg_configurable_bee and productivebees:*, so no Productive Bees entity can go into a spawner.[4]
Silk touch and harvesting
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]] is 1, the mod default. That is the silk touch level you need to harvest a spawner. Setting it to -1 disables harvesting and 0 makes spawners always drop.[4]
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]] is 100, the mod default. That is the durability damage your tool takes when it silk touches a spawner.[4]
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] is false, the mod default. A broken spawner does not clear the entity it contains.[4]
Capturing and despawning
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]] is 0.005, the same as the mod default. It is the per-level chance (1 means 100%) that a mob drops its Spawn Egg when you use Capturing.[4]
- [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Entity Despawn Delay]] is 600 ticks, the mod default. Mobs are prevented from despawning for that long after they spawn.[4]
What changed in Apothic-Spawners between versions?
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships with Apothic-Spawners 1.4.0, using the file ApothicSpawners-1.21.1-1.4.0.jar. The mod has been in the pack for a long time: it was first included in FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]
Unverified The individual changes in the Apothic-Spawners 1.4.0 changelog could not be confirmed from the material available, and no pack changelog entries for this mod were provided. Check the mod's own changelog for the full list of changes.
