XyCraft Machines guide for FTB Skies 2 1.7.0 to 1.8.0

XyCraft Machines is one of the mods that ships with the pack. This version of the pack includes version 0.7.53, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack.^[1]

The quest book gives us two hints about where it fits. The first is in the resource_generation chapter, where a quest has you obtain the Extractor (a quest in "?"). Because it sits in that chapter, it's worth treating the Extractor as part of your resource setup.^[2]

The second is in the useful_items_tips chapter, where a quest asks for the Balloon on a Stick, shown in game as Balloon on a Stick (a quest in "?"). The chapter name suggests it's a handy utility item, but the quest data doesn't say what it does.^[3]

Unverified The sources I had don't describe the mod's machines, recipes or mechanics, and there's no in-jar guidebook to draw from. I can't say who the mod is best suited to or exactly where it sits in the pack's progression beyond the two quests above. The mod also isn't on the ATM Star quest path.

XyCraft Machines has a handful of base parts that show up in a lot of its recipes. Here is the order I'd make things in, with the real in-pack recipes shown under each step.^[4]

Machine Base

Start with the Machine Base. It is a building block in many of the mod's machine recipes, and the Fabricator, Valve and Item IO below all build on it. This recipe is the mod's own and the pack has not changed it.^[4]

Aluminum Wrench

Next, craft the Aluminum Wrench. The Item IO tooltip says its fill or drain side can be toggled with a wrench, so it is worth having one in your inventory before you set up item handling.^[4][5]

Ports

Ports are the other common building block. Several machine recipes call for one, such as the Buffer, the Hydro Pump and the Charger. The item port and fluid port recipes below are the mod's own.^[4]

The Energy Port recipe is changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default. The Charger recipe is changed by the pack too and is shown after it. The Isolator and Energy Pipe are changed by the pack as well.^[4]

Extractor

The Extractor is a good early machine to aim for. Its tooltip says it extracts items and fluids out of the environment. The pack's quest book also has a quest asking you to make it: a quest in "?", in the resource_generation chapter.^[2][5]

Item IO and Fabricator

Once you have a Machine Base and an Item Port, you can build the Item IO. After that, the Fabricator is a good next step, since its tooltip says it crafts items automatically.^[4][5]

There is also a quest in the useful_items_tips chapter, a quest in "?", that asks for the Balloon on a Stick. It is a fun one to grab early.^[3]

Machine Base

Machine Base is a crafting component that several machines use in their recipes, including the Fabricator, Fluid Void, Item IO, Light Field and Accelerated Planter. Here is its in-pack recipe.^[6]

Item handling and automation

• Collector: filterable, and it collects items before they become entities.^[5]
• Extractor: extracts items and fluids out of the environment.^[5]
• Fabricator: crafts items automatically.^[5]
• Item IO: its tooltip says the fill or drain side can be toggled with a wrench.^[5]

Fluid handling

• Valve: allows the creation of tanks.^[5]
• Hydro Pump: automatically pumps water into a connected tank. You can extract from it at a higher rate. Its tooltip lists a base rate per cycle and a separate rate per cycle when waterlogged.^[5]
• Fluid Void: stops fluids from flowing into adjacent blocks.^[5]

The mod also has ports for different resources: Item Port, Fluid Port, Energy Port and Chemical Port. The Extractor recipe accepts any item from a ports tag.^[6]

Power

The Charger charges items using external energy. The pack changed its recipe, so here is the in-pack version.^[5][6]

Light and spawn control

• Light Field: prevents spawns in a cubed volume.^[5]
• Illumination Field: illuminates a volume of area. The pack changed its recipe.^[5][6]
• Flare Rod: its tooltip says it consumes something to place a light. The pack changed its recipe.^[5][6]

Unlimited item and fluid sources

The Item Selector creates an unlimited amount of items. The Fluid Selector creates an unlimited amount of a fluid. In this pack, both have shapeless recipes added by the pack itself that use Creative Ascension.^[5][6]

Recipes the pack changed

The recipe dump marks these XyCraft Machines recipes as changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's defaults for them: Charger, Flare Rod, Hover Pack, Hover Pylon, Illumination Field, Isolator, Mekanical Chemical Condenser, Mekanical Fluid Evaporator and Energy Pipe.^[6]

The sources here don't show a formal tier list for this mod, and the quest book only touches it twice. What they do show is a clear build-up through the in-pack recipes: ports and the Machine Base first, then the Extractor and the utility machines, then a set of gear and processing recipes the pack has reworked, and finally a few late upgrades.^[2][3][4]

The Extractor

The Extractor also has a machine recipe that turns leaves and logs into resin. The Blender can then turn resin and water into a Block of Resin, and Resin Ball and Block of Resin convert back and forth by crafting.^[4]

In this pack, XyCraft Machines connects mainly to Mekanism. The pack changes several Mekanism recipes so XyCraft materials run through Mekanism machines. It also adds a few recipes of its own that use the pack's Creative Ascension item.^[4]

Aluminum processing in Mekanism

The pack changes a group of Mekanism recipes for XyCraft's aluminum line. Mekanism purifying recipes make Aluminum Clump from aluminum ore, raw aluminum, raw aluminum blocks or aluminum shards. Injecting recipes make Aluminum Shard from aluminum ore, raw aluminum, raw aluminum blocks or aluminum crystals.^[4]

A Mekanism crystallizing recipe makes Aluminum Crystal from clean aluminum slurry. All of these recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so they can differ from the mod's defaults. Check them in the recipe viewer.^[4]

Quests

Two quests involve XyCraft items. a quest in "?" in the resource_generation chapter has the Extractor as its task. a quest in "?" in the useful_items_tips chapter has the Balloon on a Stick as its task. Neither quest lists an item from another mod.^[2][3]

XyCraft Machines shows up in two quest chapters in this pack, and in each one it's a single quest asking you to have one item. Nothing here is a long questline, so it's easy to pick up as you go.^[7][8]

Resource Generation

In the resource_generation chapter, quest a quest in "?" has a single task: obtain the Extractor. The quest has no title in the pack files.^[7]

Useful Items and Tips

In the useful_items_tips chapter, quest a quest in "?" has a single task: obtain the Balloon on a Stick, which appears in this pack as Balloon on a Stick. This quest is also untitled in the pack files.^[8]

Order

Unverified The sources list each quest on its own, so the order in which these two quests unlock, and whether either one depends on another quest, can't be confirmed. Rewards for these quests aren't shown either.
