XyCraft Machines guide for FTB Skies 2 1.9.0 to 1.10.2

XyCraft Machines is part of this pack, which ships version 0.7.53. It has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier, so it is one of the long-standing mods you can expect to meet in a normal playthrough.^[1]

Where it shows up in the quest book

The quest book points you at this mod in two places. In the resource_generation chapter, quest a quest in "?" has the Extractor as its task item. That placement suggests the Extractor is meant to be part of how you get resources in this pack.^[2]

In the useful_items_tips chapter, quest a quest in "?" has Balloon on a Stick as its task item.^[3]

Unverified The sources I have do not describe what the Extractor or the Balloon on a Stick actually do, what the rest of the mod adds, or whether the pack changes any of its recipes or configs. No in-jar guidebook was found either. Treat anything beyond the quest placements above as unconfirmed until it is checked in game.

XyCraft Machines starts with a few base parts that show up in many of its other recipes. Craft these first and the rest of the mod opens up. The order below follows what each item is used for in the pack's recipes, and it is not an official progression.^[4]

Make the Aluminum Wrench early. The tooltip on the Item IO says its fill or drain side can be toggled with a wrench.^[4][5]

Extractor

The Extractor pulls items and fluids out of the environment, which makes it a good first resource generator. The pack's quest book has a quest for it in the resource generation chapter: a quest in "?". The mod also has an Extractor recipe that produces Resin.^[4][5][6]

Once you have a Machine Base, the Fabricator is a good automation step, because it crafts items automatically.^[4][5]

Optional: Balloon on a Stick

The pack also has a quest in its useful items and tips chapter for the Balloon on a Stick: a quest in "?". Its tooltip reads "How... did you inflate a wool balloon?". It is a fun extra, and none of the machines above need it.^[4][5][7]

Item handling and automation

• Collector: filterable, and it collects items before they become entities.^[5]
• Extractor: extracts items and fluids out of the environment.^[5]
• Fabricator: crafts items automatically.^[5]
• Item IO: its tooltip says the fill or drain side can be toggled with a wrench.^[5]

Fluid handling

• Valve: allows the creation of tanks.^[5]
• Hydro Pump: automatically pumps water into a connected tank. You can extract from it at a higher rate. Its tooltip lists a base rate per cycle and a separate rate per cycle when waterlogged.^[5]
• Fluid Void: stops fluids from flowing into adjacent blocks.^[5]

The mod also has ports for different resources: Item Port, Fluid Port, Energy Port and Chemical Port. The Extractor recipe accepts any item from a ports tag.^[8]

Power

The Charger charges items using external energy. The pack changed its recipe, so here is the in-pack version.^[5][8]

• Light Field: prevents spawns in a cubed volume.^[5]

The pack's quest book only touches this mod twice, so this section follows those two quests and then the in-pack recipes. One quest asks you to make an Extractor (a quest in "?", in the resource_generation chapter). The other asks for a Balloon on a Stick (a quest in "?", in the useful_items_tips chapter).^[6][7]

Step 2: The Extractor quest

The Extractor is the machine the quest book points you toward. Its crafting recipe is the mod's own, not a pack change. As a machine, it has a recipe that turns leaves and logs into Resin. A separate Blender recipe turns resin and water into a Block of Resin.^[4][6]

The Refinery has a recipe that uses Ore Slurry, an Aluminum Ingot and any item from the #c:nitrogens tag. This is a recipe from the mod itself, not one the pack added. The recipe dump does not show its output, so check the recipe below before you build around it.^[8]

Two quests in the pack have XyCraft items as their task. Quest a quest in "?" in the resource_generation chapter has the Extractor as its task. Quest a quest in "?" in the useful_items_tips chapter has the Balloon on a Stick as its task.^[2][3]

Unverified The sources list each quest on its own, so the order in which these two quests unlock, and whether either one depends on another quest, can't be confirmed. Rewards for these quests aren't shown either.
