What is Sophisticated Core?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Sophisticated Core is included in this pack at version 1.0.5, shipped as the Minecraft 1.21.1 build sophisticatedcore-1.21.1-1.0.5.813.jar. It has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Sophisticated Core does in gameplay, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. They also don't show it on the ATM Star path or tied to any quests, so I'm not making claims about those. Check back once more detail is available.

How do you get started with Sophisticated Core?

2 parts

Sophisticated Core is the shared part behind Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage. In this pack its config file is where items from all three mods are switched on or off, so it is a good place to check what you can actually get your hands on.[2]

The option is common.enabledItems. Its own comment says that disabling an item also disables its recipes.[2]

What is switched on

The pack leaves the basic building blocks enabled, so you can start with plain storage and work upwards. From Backpacks, that means Backpack, plus the Copper Backpack, Iron Backpack, Gold Backpack and Diamond Backpack. From Storage, it means Chest, Barrel and Shulker Box.[2]

Upgrades start from an upgrade base, and both mods have an enabled one: Upgrade Base and Upgrade Base. Most upgrade items in both mods are enabled too, including Pickup Upgrade, Magnet Upgrade, Feeding Upgrade and Void Upgrade.[2]

Watch out: Some items are set to false in this pack, so they are disabled: Ender Linker, Mob Catcher Upgrade, Advanced Mob Catcher Upgrade, Experience Pump Upgrade and Experience Pump Upgrade. Don't plan a build around them.[2]

Getting comfortable with the screens

The backpack and storage screens share their buttons and settings from this mod. These are worth learning early.[3]

  • The Sort Inventory button can sort by count, by mod, by name or by tags.[3]
  • Transfer to Inventory and Transfer to Storage move items between your inventory and the container. The Matching versions only move items that match, and holding Shift transfers everything.[3]
  • The Keep Search Phrase setting decides whether the screen remembers your search when you reopen it. The Keep Tab Open setting does the same for the upgrade tab you last had open.[3]
  • The Player settings context applies to all backpacks and storages unless one of them overrides it.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show the crafting recipes for the backpacks, storage blocks and upgrades, or any quest that introduces them. The order in which to craft them is therefore not covered in this section, so check the recipes in-game. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Sophisticated Core work?

6 parts

Sophisticated Core is the shared engine behind the backpack and storage screens in the pack. What I can show you here comes from its screen text and the pack's config, so this section covers the inventory tools, the settings tabs, upgrade rules and the pack's item toggles. It does not cover machines or multiblocks.[2][3]

Moving and sorting items

Every backpack or storage screen has a Sort Inventory button. You can sort by count, by mod, by name or by tags. There are also transfer buttons: Transfer to Inventory, Transfer to Storage, and filtered versions that only move matching items. The filtered buttons tell you to hold Shift to transfer everything instead.[3]

The search box says "Click to search". Start your search with @ to search by mod name. If nothing matches, the screen tells you no items match the search.[3]

Settings tab

The settings have a Player context. Player level settings apply to all your backpacks and storages unless a specific one overrides them. You can click the context button to toggle between contexts.[3]

  • Keep Search Phrase: when ON, the screen keeps your search and filters by it the next time you open it. When OFF, it clears the search and shows everything again.[3]
  • Keep Tab Open: when ON, the screen remembers which upgrade tab was open last and reopens it. When OFF, all tabs start closed.[3]
  • Shift click behaviour: you can choose whether Shift click tries your inventory or storage first, or an open upgrade tab first.[3]
  • Memory: select slots that remember their contents and only accept matching stacks.[3]
  • No Sort: select slots that sorting should ignore.[3]
  • Item Display: pick a slot whose item is shown on top of the storage. You can show it on the front, left or right side, and adjust rotation, depth and colour.[3]

In the Memory, No Sort and Item Display tabs, left click or drag selects a slot and right click or drag unselects it. Memory and No Sort also have Select All and Unselect All buttons.[3]

Saving settings as templates

You can save your settings to a slot and load them back later, and scrolling changes the slot. You can also export settings, which creates a data pack with an snbt file. A load can fail with the message that the settings don't fit in this storage.[3]

Upgrade rules

Each upgrade has an ON, OFF or INACTIVE switch. The screen also gives you clear error messages when an upgrade can't be added or removed. These are the limits it reports:[3]

  • Some upgrades need all upgrade slots to be empty before they can be added.[3]
  • Only one Battery Upgrade is allowed, and the backpack must support its energy. If it can't, upgrade the backpack or add a stack multiplier.[3]
  • Up to two Tank Upgrades are allowed, and the backpack needs enough capacity for them. Upgrading the backpack or adding a stack multiplier helps.[3]
  • Some upgrades need the last few inventory slots to be free, and some are limited to a set number per container.[3]
  • An upgrade with a banned item inside can't be removed until you take the item out.[3]
  • Only admins can remove the Infinity Upgrade.[3]
  • Removing a stack upgrade is blocked if a slot or upgrade needs a higher stack limit than what would remain.[3]

Ender Linker

The mod has an Ender Linker that links storages. Its status messages say a storage can't be linked if it is already linked, still has contents, is incompatible with the linked group, or is not a supported type.[2][3]

What this pack turns off

The pack's common.enabledItems list controls which Sophisticated items are enabled. The file's comment says disabling an item disables its recipes. Nearly everything is set to true. The pack sets these to false: Ender Linker, Mob Catcher Upgrade, Advanced Mob Catcher Upgrade, Experience Pump Upgrade and Experience Pump Upgrade.[2]

Which Sophisticated Core config options matter?

2 parts

Sophisticated Core has only two config files in this pack, and the interesting one is the common file. The client file just holds a few interface preferences.[2][4]

Disabled items

The option common.enabledItems is a list where each entry is an item id followed by true or false. Its comment says that disabling an item also disables its recipes. In this pack nearly every entry is set to true, but a handful are set to false, so you won't be able to craft them.[2]

The sources don't show the mod's own default for this list, so I can't say which of these the pack changed. What the file confirms is that these items are switched off here. If you were hoping to catch mobs or pump XP with a backpack or storage upgrade, this is why you won't find a recipe.[2]

Client options

  • client.sortButtonsPosition is set to "TITLE_LINE_RIGHT". The allowed values are TITLE_LINE_RIGHT, BELOW_UPGRADES, BELOW_UPGRADE_TABS and HIDDEN. Its comment says the option exists to help with conflicts with controls from other mods, so change it if the sort buttons overlap something else in your GUI.[4]
  • client.mouseTweaksScrollEnabled is set to true. This lets Mouse Tweaks handle scrolling in inventories, if that mod is in the pack.[4]
  • client.playButtonSound is set to true, so a click sound plays when you press the custom buttons in the GUI. Set it to false if you'd rather not hear it.[4]
