What is Sophisticated Core?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Sophisticated Core is included in this pack at version 1.0.5, shipped as the Minecraft 1.21.1 build sophisticatedcore-1.21.1-1.0.5.813.jar. It has been in the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Sophisticated Core does in gameplay, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. They also don't show it on the ATM Star path or tied to any quests, so I'm not making claims about those. Check back once more detail is available.

How do you get started with Sophisticated Core?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Here's the honest starting point for Sophisticated Core in this pack: there is no crafting order to follow. No quests in this pack involve the mod, and no recipes in this pack produce its items, so I can't point you at a first item to craft. What I can do is show you the screen features the mod provides, so you know what to use once you have a backpack or storage from another mod.[2]

Tidy up your inventory

The shared backpack and storage screen has a Sort Inventory button. You can sort by count, by mod, by name or by tags, so pick whichever suits how you like your chests.[2]

There are also buttons to transfer items to your inventory or to the storage. The Matching versions only move items that match what's already on the other side, and the tooltip says to hold Shift to transfer all.[2]

Settings worth checking early

  • Player level settings apply to all your backpacks and storages unless a specific one overrides them, so set your preferences once.[2]
  • Keep Search Phrase decides whether the screen clears your search when you close it or prefills and filters by it next time you open it.[2]
  • Keep Tab Open remembers which upgrade tab you last had open and reopens it next time. When it's off, all tabs start closed.[2]
  • You can save settings to a slot and load them back later. Exporting creates a data pack with an snbt file.[2]

Upgrade rules to know before you buy

The mod's error messages show a few limits on upgrades. Some upgrades need all upgrade slots empty, only one Battery Upgrade is allowed, and a storage can't hold more than two Tank Upgrades. Battery and tank upgrades can also be refused if the backpack's capacity is too low, and a stack multiplier can help with that.[2]

Watch out: The Infinity Upgrade can only be removed by admins. Keep that in mind if you're playing on a server.[2]

Unverified The pack's config file for this mod, sophisticatedcore-common.toml, could not be read in detail here, so I can't say which values the pack changed from the mod's defaults.

How does Sophisticated Core work?

5 parts

Sophisticated Core has no machines or multiblocks of its own in what the pack's sources show. What they do show is the shared screen and settings system that backpacks and storages use: sorting, transferring, searching, per-slot settings and the rules for fitting upgrades. That's what this section covers.[3]

Sorting and transferring

Each storage screen has a Sort Inventory button. You can sort by count, by mod, by name or by tags. There are also buttons to transfer to inventory and transfer to storage, plus "matching" versions that only move stacks matching what is already on the other side. Hold Shift with the matching buttons to transfer everything.[3]

Shift clicking has its own setting. It can try your inventory or storage first and only then an open upgrade tab, or it can put the stack into an open tab first.[3]

Searching

The search box says "Click to search", and starting your search with @ looks items up by mod name. If nothing matches, you get a "No items match the search" message. A setting lets the screen keep your search phrase and filter by it when you reopen it. With that off, the phrase is cleared on close and every item shows again.[3]

Slot settings tabs

The settings screen has a Player context. Settings there apply to all backpacks and storages unless a specific one overrides them. In the slot-based tabs, left click or drag selects slots and right click or drag unselects them. Select All and Unselect All buttons are there too.[3]

  • Memory: chosen slots remember their contents and only allow matching stacks in them.[3]
  • No Sort: chosen slots are ignored when you sort.[3]
  • Item Display: pick a slot whose item is shown on top of the storage. The display can be on the front, left or right side.[3]

There is also a Keep Tab Open option. When it is on, the storage remembers which upgrade tab was open and reopens it next time. When it is off, all tabs start closed.[3]

Saving and sharing settings

You can save your settings to a slot and load them again, and scrolling changes the slot. You can also export settings, which creates a data pack with an snbt file. If a saved layout needs more setting slots than the storage has, you get a "Settings don't fit in this storage" message.[3]

Upgrade rules

Each upgrade has an ON, OFF or INACTIVE switch on its tab. The screen text names Advanced Alchemy, Advanced Compacting, Advanced Feeding, Advanced Filter, Jukebox, Advanced Magnet, Advanced Pickup, Advanced Pump and Advanced Void settings, among others. The list is cut off in the sources I have.[3]

The error messages show what stops you adding or removing an upgrade:[3]

  • Only one Battery Upgrade can be installed at a time. If the backpack's max energy is too low for it, you need a bigger backpack or a stack multiplier.[3]
  • Only two Tank Upgrades can be present. Tanks also need enough capacity, again from a bigger backpack or a stack multiplier.[3]
  • Some upgrades need every upgrade slot to be empty before they can be added.[3]
  • Some upgrades need the last few inventory slots to be free, so an item sitting in one of them blocks the upgrade.[3]
  • Some upgrades are limited to a single copy, or to a set number, per backpack or storage.[3]
  • Removing an upgrade can be blocked by an item that must come out first, or by a slot or upgrade that needs a higher stack multiplier.[3]
  • Only admins can remove the Infinity Upgrade.[3]

Unverified The pack's values in config/sophisticatedcore-common.toml could not be confirmed from the sources provided, so nothing here states what the pack changed. Machines, multiblocks, power and fluid networks, and automation setups are not explained in the available sources either.

Which Sophisticated Core config options matter?

2 parts

Sophisticated Core only shows up in this pack's configs through its client file, so the options you can tweak are all about the GUI. Nothing here changes gameplay, which makes them safe to play with.[4]

Sort button position

client.sortButtonsPosition controls where the sort buttons are drawn in the storage screen. The pack sets it to TITLE_LINE_RIGHT. The other allowed values are BELOW_UPGRADES, BELOW_UPGRADE_TABS and HIDDEN.[4]

Tip: This option exists to help with conflicts with the controls from other mods. If the sort buttons overlap something from another mod's GUI, try one of the other positions, or set it to HIDDEN to remove them.[4]

Button click sound

client.playButtonSound decides whether a click sound plays when you press custom buttons in the GUI. The pack has it set to true, so the sound is on. Set it to false if you would rather have silent buttons.[4]

Unverified The sources do not show which of these values, if any, differ from the mod's own defaults, so it is unconfirmed whether the pack changed either option.
