What is Simply Light?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.16 guide

Simply Light is in the pack at version 1.4.6+1.21-b53 (file simplylight-1.4.6+1.21-b53.jar). It has been part of the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Simply Light adds, who it is aimed at, or how it fits into the pack's progression. I also have no confirmed recipes, config options or quests for it, and no guidebook, so I'm not guessing at any of that. I'll fill this in once there is something to back it up.

How do you get started with Simply Light?

5 parts

This mod adds lighting blocks, and the recipes shown here are all crafting recipes. Here is the order I'd go in, starting with the light bulb.[2]

First: Simple Light Bulb

Start with the Simple Light Bulb. One craft gives you 8 of them.[2]

Next: Illuminant Block

Next, make the Illuminant Block. This craft gives you 4 blocks, and the mod describes it as a simple light block.[2][3]

If you want the inverted version, Illuminant Block(Inverted), you can craft it directly for 4 blocks, or turn an Illuminant Block into it with a single-item shapeless recipe.[2]

The reverse swap, back to the normal block, is also a one-item recipe.[2]

Then: Dynamic Edge Light

The Dynamic Edge Light (bottom) is great for hallways. One craft makes 6. When you place it, it morphs to follow the blocks around it, and that shape stays afterward. That means you can shape it using temporary blocks.[2][3]

There is also a top version, Dynamic Edge Light (top), and you can swap between the two with shapeless recipes.[2]

Colors

Once you have edge lights, you can recolor them with a dye recipe that makes 8 per craft, for example Dynamic Blue Edge Light (bottom).[2]

Panels are made from slabs, for example Illuminant Black Panel from Illuminant Black Slab. The plain Illuminant Slab has its own recipe too.[2]

Finally: fixtures, rods and columns

When you want more decorative options, the mod also has the Illuminant Fixture, which makes 6 per craft, and the Illuminant Rod, which makes 8.[2]

How does Simply Light work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Simply Light is a set of light blocks, so the sources here show no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation for it. What they do explain is how a few of the lights behave when you place them, and that's what this section covers.[4]

Dynamic edge lights

The Dynamic Edge Light (bottom) is the one with the most interesting behaviour. Its in-game description says it follows the walls around itself, which makes it good for hallways. It morphs depending on the blocks present around it at the moment you place it.[4]

The shape persists after placement. That means you can use temporary blocks to get the shape you want, then remove them and keep the light as it is.[4]

Tip: Set up some throwaway blocks around the spot first, place the edge light, then break the helpers. The light keeps the shape it took when you placed it.[4]

There is a bottom version and a top version, Dynamic Edge Light (top), and both carry the same description. You can swap between the two with shapeless crafting.[4][5]

Colour variants such as Dynamic Blue Edge Light (bottom) are made by crafting a dye together with any edge light.[5]

Illuminant blocks and the inverted toggle

The Illuminant Block is described as a simple light block that activates. The inverted version, Illuminant Block(Inverted), is described the same way but deactivates instead.[4]

You can switch between the normal and inverted forms with a shapeless crafting recipe. The black set has its own pair of toggle recipes, using Illuminant Black Block and Illuminant Black Block (Inverted).[4][5]

How do you progress through Simply Light?

3 parts

In this pack, Simply Light has no tiers to climb. What the recipes show is a short crafting chain: you make a base light, then branch into colours, flips between variants and smaller shapes. Here is how that chain runs.[2]

The base lights

Every base light has its own recipe, so you can start with whichever one you like. Here is what each craft gives you.[2]

Recipe id: simplylight:rodlamp

The Illuminant Column is the odd one out. Its recipe takes an item from the mod's any_lamp_on group as an input, so make some of your other lamps first. One craft gives you 2 Illuminant Columns.[2]

Colours and variants

Once you have edge lights, you can recolour them. Each dye recipe takes any edge light plus a dye and gives you 8 lights in that colour. Here is the black one as an example, and the other colours follow the same pattern.[2]

Recipe id: simplylight:edge_light_black_dyed

The top versions of the edge lights have their own dye recipes too. They take any top edge light and give you 8 lights per craft.[2]

You can swap an edge light between its bottom and top forms with a single-item shapeless craft, and back again. Illuminant Blocks work the same way: each block and its Inverted version convert into each other.[2]

Splitting slabs into panels

The last step is the panel. Put one Illuminant Slab in the recipe and you get 6 Illuminant Panels, and each colour of slab has its own matching split recipe.[2]

Across the mod, the recipe dump counts 160 shaped crafting recipes and 50 shapeless ones, which is why you will find so many colour and toggle variants.[2]
