What is GeOre Nouveau?

1 part

GeOre Nouveau is an Ars Nouveau add-on, and this pack ships version 0.5.4 of it (the 1.21.1 build). It has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod lineup.[1]

The only part of the mod the pack's files show is a family of golem charms, one for each of these materials: coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, quartz, redstone, ruby, sapphire, topaz and zinc.[2]

Where it fits in progression

The pack's quest book places GeOre Nouveau inside the Ars Nouveau chapter. The quest a quest in "?" is an item task that is completed by obtaining any one of the golem charms above. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you'll reach it as part of your Ars Nouveau progression.[2]

Unverified The sources don't describe what the golems actually do, how the charms are crafted, or whether the pack changes any of the mod's recipes or configs. They also don't confirm who the mod is best suited to or any ATM Star path connection, so none of that is covered here.

How do you get started with GeOre Nouveau?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.5.1 guide

GeOre Nouveau is about finding ore-themed Geores with the help of Ars Nouveau magic. In this pack, the mod's craftable items in the sources are the GeOre dowsing rods, so that's where you start.[3][4]

First: get a base Dowsing Rod

Every GeOre dowsing rod in this pack is crafted from an Dowsing Rod plus one material that matches the ore you want to find. So you need the base rod before anything else.[3]

Next: make a rod for an ore you need early

Each rod grants Magic Find and Scrying when you use it. Magical creatures glow, and the matching Geore is revealed through blocks. That gives you a way to locate the ore you're after instead of digging blind.[4]

Good first picks are the rods for ores you'll need straight away. The Iron GeOre Dowsing Rod and the Copper GeOre Dowsing Rod are both recipes the pack changed, so go by what the recipe blocks below show and not by the mod's defaults.[3]

Then: move on to the valuable rods

Once your early ores are covered, you can build rods for rarer materials. The pack changed the Gold, Diamond and Lapis recipes too (and Emerald), so look at the recipe blocks instead of assuming the mod defaults. Remember that each rod only reveals its own Geore type.[3][4]

The same set also covers many modded materials, including tin, zinc, silver, lead, nickel, osmium and uranium. Each has its own rod, such as the Tin GeOre Dowsing Rod and the Zinc GeOre Dowsing Rod.[3]

Tip: The rods have a second job. Use one on an Imbuement Chamber or an Enchanting Apparatus to highlight its linked pedestals, which is handy when you're setting up Ars Nouveau crafting.[4]

Charms

The mod also has a charm for each Geore type. You get one by performing the Ritual of Awakening near the matching Budding Geore.[4]

How does GeOre Nouveau work?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.5.1 guide

The sources for this mod cover ore-specific dowsing rods and charms. They don't describe machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item handling, so this section stays short and covers only what they show.[3][4]

Dowsing rods

Using a GeOre dowsing rod grants you Magic Find and Scrying. Magical creatures glow, and the matching Geore is revealed through blocks. Each rod is tied to its own material. For example, the Diamond GeOre Dowsing Rod reveals Diamond Geore and the Copper GeOre Dowsing Rod reveals Copper Geore.[4]

The rods can also be used on an Imbuement Chamber or an Enchanting Apparatus to highlight their linked pedestals.[4]

Which rods exist

There is a rod for each of these materials: aluminum, ancient debris, black quartz, coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, lead, monazite, nickel, osmium, platinum, quartz, redstone, ruby, sapphire, silver, tin, topaz, tungsten, uraninite, uranium and zinc.[3][4]

Crafting the rods

All of the rods are made with shaped crafting recipes. The pack changes the recipes for the copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron and lapis rods. The rest use the mod's own recipes. Here is a changed recipe followed by an unchanged one.[3]

Tip: Many of the rod recipes accept any item from a shared material tag rather than a specific item, so check the recipe block for the rod you want.[3]

Charms

Each material also has a charm. You get it by performing the Ritual of Awakening near the matching Budding Geore, for example a Budding Coal Geore for the coal charm.[4]

Unverified There are no config files for this mod in the pack and no in-jar guidebook was found, so the sources here don't show tunable values, what the charms do once you have them, or the ritual's requirements.

How do you progress through GeOre Nouveau?

2 parts

GeOre Nouveau doesn't have a formal tier ladder in this pack, at least not one I can confirm from the pack's files. What the pack does show is a set of GeOre Dowsing Rods, a set of GeOre Golem Charms, and one quest that rewards you for getting a charm. Here is how that fits together.[2][5]

Dowsing rods: the starting point

Each ore or gem has its own rod, such as the Coal GeOre Dowsing Rod, Iron GeOre Dowsing Rod and Diamond GeOre Dowsing Rod. All of them are shaped crafting recipes, so you make them at a normal crafting table. The pack also has rods for the modded materials it ships with, for example Silver GeOre Dowsing Rod, Osmium GeOre Dowsing Rod, Ruby GeOre Dowsing Rod and Uranium GeOre Dowsing Rod.[5]

The rod recipes are not all the same as the mod's defaults. The pack changed the recipes for the copper, iron, gold, lapis, diamond and emerald rods. The rest of the rods use the mod's own recipes. The sources don't say what exactly the pack changed, so check the recipe viewer for the details.[5]

Golem charms and the quest

The pack's one quest for this mod, a quest in "?", sits in the Ars Nouveau quest chapter. To complete it you hand in any one of the GeOre Golem Charms. The quest accepts these charms:[2]

The quest only unlocks after a prerequisite quest in the same chapter is done. It accepts any one charm from the list, so you get to pick whichever is easiest for you.[2]

Tip: Since the quest takes any charm from that list, go for the one whose material you already have plenty of. Rods exist for more materials than there are charms, though. For example, there is a silver rod but no silver charm in the quest.[2][5]

Unverified How you get a golem charm, such as its crafting recipe or how it works, is not covered by the pack data I have. The exact changes the pack made to the copper, iron, gold, lapis, diamond and emerald rod recipes, and any ordering between ore types, are also unconfirmed.

How does GeOre Nouveau work with other mods?

3 parts

GeOre Nouveau is built to work with Ars Nouveau, and the recipes and quests in this pack show it. Every GeOre dowsing rod recipe in the pack starts from the Dowsing Rod, so you'll want Ars Nouveau's rod before you can make any of the ore-specific ones.[5]

Dowsing rod recipes

Each rod is a shaped crafting recipe. Here is the Coal rod, which is one of the recipes that comes straight from the mod.[5]

Many rods are matched to a common tag instead of one specific item. That covers the aluminum, copper, gold, iron, lead, nickel, osmium, platinum, silver, tin, tungsten, uranium and zinc rods, plus the diamond, emerald, lapis, ruby, sapphire, topaz and black quartz ones. So any item from any mod that carries the right tag works. The Monazite and Uraninite rods use a dust tag and a raw material tag in the same way.[5]

A few rods use a plain vanilla item instead: Ancient Debris GeOre Dowsing Rod, Coal GeOre Dowsing Rod, Quartz GeOre Dowsing Rod and Redstone GeOre Dowsing Rod.[5]

Recipes the pack changed

The pack has changed the recipes for the copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron and lapis rods. The rest are listed as the mod's own recipes. Don't assume the mod's default recipe for these six. The recipe block below shows the exact version used in this pack, using iron as the example.[5]

Changed by the pack, so this is the recipe you should follow.

Tip: The copper, diamond, emerald, gold and lapis rods are also pack-changed. Check their recipe pages before you gather materials.[5]

Golem charm quest

GeOre Nouveau also appears in the Ars Nouveau quest chapter. The quest a quest in "?" has an item task that accepts any one of the GeOre golem charms. The accepted charms are coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, quartz, redstone, ruby, sapphire, topaz and zinc, such as Diamond GeOre Golem Charm or Iron GeOre Golem Charm. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter.[2]

Unverified The sources don't show how the golem charms are crafted or obtained in this pack. They also don't confirm whether the charms need any other Ars Nouveau items, so check in-game before planning around them.

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use GeOre Nouveau?

1 part

This mod shows up in one quest chapter in the pack: the Ars Nouveau chapter. It's a small appearance, but it's the one place the pack's questbook points you at GeOre Nouveau.[2]

The Ars Nouveau chapter

The quest is a quest in "?". It has no title in the questbook. It sits after a quest in "?", so that quest comes first in the chapter's order. The sources don't say what that earlier quest asks for.[2]

The quest is a single item task that accepts any one of the GeOre golem charms below, so you only need to get hold of one type.[2]

Unverified The sources don't show any rewards for this quest, how the charms are obtained in the pack, or whether other quests in the chapter come after it, so check the in-game questbook for those details.
