What is FTB Teams?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.0 guide
FTB Teams is included in this pack as version 2101.1.10, built for NeoForge. It has also been part of the pack for a long time, since at least an early release, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified There are no verified sources here for what FTB Teams does in this pack, which players it is aimed at, or how it fits into progression. Judging by its name, it likely handles player teams or parties, but that is unconfirmed. Check it in-game before relying on it.
How do you get started with FTB Teams?
3 parts
Good news: your first steps with this mod don't involve crafting anything. Nothing in the pack's recipes produces FTB Teams items, so there are no recipe blocks here. What matters is getting your team set up before you start building your island.[2]
In the pack's quest book, the first chapter, Welcome, has the quest "Creating and Joining a team" quest. It asks you to set up a party if you want to share a starting island with friends, and the mod offers Party teams so members can invite each other and progress together.[2][3]
Playing with friends: set up a party
When you join a world for the first time, a team is created for you automatically. That's why you have to leave it before you can join someone else's party.[2]
- Everyone who wants to join someone else's team types /ftbteams party leave in chat to get out of their automatic team.[2]
- The party leader invites each player by typing /ftbteams party invite followed by the player's username.[2]
- The invited player gets a chat message prompting them to accept or decline. Accept it and you're in the party.[2]
The mod's own text describes a Party team as a way to invite members and progress together. It also adds a keybind called Open Teams GUI under the FTB Teams key category. I couldn't confirm a default key, so check your controls menu.[3]
Party limits
The mod has server settings that can cap party size and limit party lives. If a size limit is set above 0, parties can't grow past it. If limited lives are set above 0, each member death costs the party a life. A party with no lives left can't invite new members, and a member who dies at that point is kicked.[3]
Handy commands from the quest book
The Welcome chapter also has a quest with a few commands worth knowing from the start. These are listed in that quest's text.[2]
- /sethome (name) sets a home, and /home (name) teleports you back to it.[2]
- /ftbteambases home teleports you back to your starting island.[2]
- /back returns you to a previous point, either from a death or from where you last teleported from.[2]
- /spawn teleports you back to the lobby.[2]
- /spark tps checks the server's TPS, which is useful for seeing whether your world is lagging.[2]
How does FTB Teams work?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
The sources for FTB Teams describe a team system, so the core mechanics here are about how parties work. You open the team screen with the "Open Teams GUI" key, which you'll find under the FTB Teams category in your controls.[4]
Party teams
A Party team lets you invite members and progress together. The create-party screen describes it that way, so that's the one to pick if you're playing with friends.[4]
Server settings that shape a party
The server settings for maximum party size and limited lives change how parties behave. Here is what each one does.[4]
- Maximum party size: if it is above 0, a party can't have more players than that number. If it is 0, there is no limit.[4]
- If the size limit is changed while larger teams already exist, those parties keep their current size, but they can't invite new members.[4]
- Limited lives: if the setting is above 0, party lives apply. Each time a member dies, the party loses a life.[4]
- Once the party has no lives left, a member who dies is kicked from the party. A party with no lives remaining also can't invite new members.[4]
- If the party owner dies while limited lives are on, a random member becomes the new owner, and officers get priority.[4]
Unverified The values this pack uses for maximum party size and limited lives are set in the server config for FTB Teams, and the sources here do not show them. Check them on your own server.
How do you progress through FTB Teams?
3 parts
The pack's quest book only touches on FTB Teams as a short setup step at the very start, in the Welcome chapter.[2]
The welcome quest presents the pack as a sandbox-style Skyblock and tells you to progress however you like.[2]
Where it shows up in the quests
The Welcome chapter is where the quest book brings up FTB Teams. "Creating and Joining a team" quest asks players who want to share a starting island with friends to set up a party. The same chapter has "Welcome to FTB Skies 2!" quest, "Found A Bug?" quest and an untitled quest, a quest in "Welcome", which lists handy commands.[2]
Teaming up with friends
When you join a world for the first time, a team is created for you automatically. That means you have to leave it before you can join your friends.[2]
- Type /ftbteams party leave in chat to leave your automatically created team.[2]
- The party leader invites each new player with /ftbteams party invite <username>.[2]
- A message appears in chat prompting the invited player to accept or decline.[2]
Useful commands from the quest book
- /ftbteambases home teleports you back to your starting island.[2]
- /sethome (name) sets a home, and /home (name) teleports you back to it.[2]
- /back returns you to a previous point, either from a death or from where you last teleported from.[2]
- /spawn teleports you back to the lobby.[2]
- /spark tps checks the server's TPS, which is useful to see if your world is lagging.[2]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use FTB Teams?
2 parts
FTB Teams shows up in one place in the quest book: the "Welcome" chapter, which is chapter 1 of 41 and holds 4 quests. Only one of them is about teams, and every quest in the chapter is a simple checkmark task, so there is nothing to craft or hand in.[2]
The team quest
"Creating and Joining a team" quest is the one you want if you're playing with friends and want to share a starting island. The quest says a team is created for you automatically the first time you join a world, so you need to leave it before you can join your friends.[2]
- Type /ftbteams party leave in chat to leave the team that was created for you.[2]
- The party leader invites each new player with /ftbteams party invite <username>.[2]
- A message appears in chat prompting the invited player to accept or decline.[2]
The rest of the Welcome chapter
The book lists the chapter's quests in this order: "Creating and Joining a team" quest, "Found A Bug?" quest, "Welcome to FTB Skies 2!" quest and a quest in "Welcome". The others don't deal with FTB Teams directly, but they are worth a look.[2]
- "Welcome to FTB Skies 2!" quest is the intro to the pack. It describes a sandbox-style Skyblock where mods are not particularly gated, and names completing the FTB Pyramid as the final goal.[2]
- "Found A Bug?" quest tells you to report bugs on Discord or GitHub.[2]
- a quest in "Welcome" has no title of its own. It is a command cheat sheet: /sethome (name) and /home (name), /ftbteambases home to return to your starting island, /back, /spawn to return to the lobby, and /spark tps to check the server's TPS.[2]
