What is FramedBlocks?
2 parts
FramedBlocks is a building mod. It adds blocks in lots of different shapes, and each one can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. That means you get slopes, stairs, panels, pillars, doors, rails and more, all wearing whatever texture your build needs.[1]
The pack includes FramedBlocks 10.6.2. It's aimed at builders who want custom shapes without needing a separate set of blocks for every material.[1][2]
The basics
Start with a Framed Cube. Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block. Right click it with Glowstone Dust and it will produce light.[1]
Made a mistake? Right click with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo. The Framed Wrench rotates a framed block, and on most blocks the result depends on which face you click.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a quest in the useful items tips chapter that asks for the Framed Cube, the Framed Hammer and the Framed Wrench: "Framed Blocks" quest. It's a good sign that these are tools the pack wants you to pick up early for building.[3]
Unverified The sources don't show how the pack gates these items, so how early you can get them in the progression isn't confirmed here. Recipe and config changes made by the pack aren't confirmed either.
How do you get started with FramedBlocks?
4 parts
FramedBlocks gives you building blocks in lots of shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. In this pack, everything starts with one item, the Framed Cube, and the first quest in the chain asks for exactly the first three things you should make.[1][3]
Step 1: Make a Framed Cube
The Framed Cube is the base for almost everything else, so make it first. Here is the in-pack recipe:[4]

The cube feeds the recipes for the Framed Chest, Framed Door, Framed Bars, Framed Button and Framed Collapsible Block, so one cube goes a long way.[4]
Step 2: Make the Framed Hammer
Next comes the Framed Hammer, which is made from a cube.[4]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: framedblocks:framed_hammer
The hammer is your block-tweaking tool. Hitting a block with it can switch between standard and copycat-style appearance, make a block waterloggable or not, and toggle camo texture rotation on trapdoors. It is also an ingredient in several shape recipes, such as the Framed Centered Panel, Framed Centered Slab and Framed Corner Slope.[4][5]
Step 3: Make the Framed Wrench
The Framed Wrench is also made from a cube.[4]

Use it to switch which faces a block uses for its sloped faces, and to set the see-through side of a one-way window. Crouch and hit to clear that side again.[5]
Useful extras once you have the basics
- The Framed Axe is made from a cube plus an iron ingot. Framed blocks broken with it keep their camo instead of dropping it separately.[4][5]
- The Framed Blueprint is made from a cube plus paper. It is meant for copying blocks, and its tooltips warn when a block can't be copied, when it has a fluid camo, or when materials are missing.[4][5]
- Some shapes have a placement trick. For the Framed Slope Slab, hold the sneak key to place it upside down.[5]

Unverified This pack also has a Framing Saw recipe entry for the Framed Cube, but the sources don't show what it needs, so how to craft or use the Framing Saw here is unconfirmed. How to apply a camo to a framed block is also not covered by the available sources.
How does FramedBlocks work?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
FramedBlocks doesn't have power, fluids or multiblock machines in the way big tech mods do. The sources I have describe a camo system plus a handful of tools that change how each block behaves. I'll walk you through those, and I'll flag the parts the sources don't cover.[1][6]
Applying and removing camo
- Right-click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right-click it with a fluid container to make it look like the fluid inside. Right-click with an empty fluid container to remove a fluid camo.[1]
- Right-click with Glowstone Dust to make the block produce light.[1]
- Right-click with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]
- If a block can't be used as a camo, you get a message. The pack sets general.camoMessageVerbosity to DEFAULT, which shows the message when the block has a BlockEntity and isn't explicitly allowed, or when it's explicitly disallowed.[7]
Framed blocks broken with a Framed Axe keep their camo instead of dropping it separately.[6][8]

Tools that change block behavior
The Framed Hammer does more than remove camo. Depending on the block you hit, its tooltips show it can switch a block between copycat-style and standard appearance, make a block waterloggable or not, toggle camo texture rotation on a trapdoor, and switch a Framed Item Frame between a camo background and a leather background.[6]
Prism corner blocks automatically turn on a texture offset based on where you place them, so larger surfaces fit together. If you don't want that, left-click the block with the hammer to toggle the offset.[1]
The Framed Wrench, or any item in the forge:tools/wrench tag, rotates a framed block. On most blocks the result depends on which face you click. The tooltips also show the wrench setting the see-through side of a One-Way Window, and switching which faces sloped blocks use for their sloped surfaces. The Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1][6]
Copying builds with the Blueprint
The Framed Blueprint copies framed blocks including their camo and glowing state. It does not copy the rotation of the block itself. It also reports problems: a block may not be copyable right now, it can't copy blocks with fluid camos, and it tells you when you're missing required materials.[1][6]

The Framing Saw
The Framing Saw is how many framed shapes get made. Its tooltips show what it checks: it tells you when you have the wrong item, too few items or too little material, and it shows result size against max size. It can also suggest a smaller block as an intermediate step. If an item was crafted with additive ingredients, the saw warns that those will be lost.[6]
The powered saw starts with no recipe selected. To pick one, click the target slot with any framed block. There is also an AE2 Pattern Encoding mode for the saw.[6]
Display and placement settings in this pack
In this pack, ghost blocks are shown while you hold a framed block (general.showGhostBlocks). The preview opacity is 170 on a 30 to 255 scale, which is also the mod default (general.ghostRenderOpacity). If the preview causes problems with shaders, general.altGhostRenderer switches to an alternate renderer, and the pack leaves it off.[7]
Connected-texture support is set to DETAILED in the pack (general.conTexMode). The config itself warns that anything above FULL_EDGE is at your own risk because of performance impact and unexpected behavior. The overlay options, such as camo rotation, reinforcement and waterlogging, are also all set to DETAILED.[7]
How do you progress through FramedBlocks?
5 parts
FramedBlocks has no tech gates in this pack. Everything starts from one block, the Framed Cube, and each new shape is built from the shapes before it. The only quest I can confirm for this mod asks you to make that cube and the two tools you'll use the most.[3][4]
The quest and the starter kit
The quest "Framed Blocks" quest is in the useful_items_tips chapter and has no title in the pack files. Its tasks are to obtain a Framed Cube, a Framed Hammer and a Framed Wrench. That makes it a good first goal.[3]
In this pack the cube is a plain crafting recipe that uses sticks and any planks. The hammer and wrench are each crafted from a cube plus a stick.[4]

Step 2: things made from a cube
Several blocks need nothing but a Framed Cube: Framed Bars, Framed Chest, Framed Door, Framed Button, Framed Collapsible Block and Framed Corner Pillar.[4]
Some more useful items are the Framed Axe, Framed Blueprint, Framed Bookshelf, Framed Bouncy Cube and Framed Collapsible Copycat Block. The recipe blocks below show their exact in-pack recipes.[4]

Doubling and converting
Many of the next shapes are just one block turned into a bigger one. For example, the Framed Double Slab comes from a Framed Slab, the Framed Double Panel from a Framed Panel, and the Framed Double Slope from a Framed Slope.[4]
The adjustable double shapes, the copycat versions and the checkered shapes each have their own recipes: Framed Adjustable Double Slab, Framed Adjustable Double Panel, Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Slab, Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Panel, Framed Checkered Cube, Framed Checkered Slab and Framed Checkered Panel. The checkered cube recipe involves the Framed Slab Corner. The recipe blocks below show several of them exactly.[4]

The hammer shapes
The Framed Hammer is why that quest matters. It appears in the recipes for Framed Centered Slab, Framed Centered Panel, Framed Corner Slope, Framed Compound Slope Panel, Framed Compound Slope Slab and Framed Corner Strip. The recipe blocks below show some of them exactly.[4]

Elevated and extended shapes
The most advanced shapes I can confirm are chained from earlier ones. The Framed Elevated Slope Slab needs a slab and a slope slab. The Framed Elevated Double Slope Slab then adds another slope slab. The Framed Extended Slope Panel needs a panel and a slope panel, and the Framed Extended Double Slope Panel adds one more slope panel.[4]
The corner slope panel line goes further. The Framed Extended Corner Slope Panel needs a Framed Large Corner Slope Panel, a corner pillar and the hammer. The Framed Extended Double Corner Slope Panel then builds on it.[4]

Unverified The recipe list I was given is cut off, so the recipes for basic shapes such as the slab, slope, panel and stairs are not shown here. A separate Framing Saw recipe for the cube is also listed with no item inputs shown. I can't say how those are obtained, and I can't confirm any quest rewards or further quests for this mod.
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use FramedBlocks?
FramedBlocks shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: "useful_items_tips". Within that chapter, the mod is involved in one quest, "Framed Blocks" quest, which has no title in the pack's quest data.[3]
The quest has item tasks for the following items, listed here in the order the quest data gives them:[3]
Which FramedBlocks config options matter?
3 parts
FramedBlocks has a server config that changes how the blocks behave and a client config that only affects how they look on your screen. Here are the options you're most likely to care about, with the exact values this pack uses.[9][10]
Server options: how framed blocks behave
- general.allowBlockEntities is false in this pack, so blocks that have block entities can't be placed inside framed blocks as a camo.[10]
- general.consumeCamoItem is true. Applying a camo uses up the item, and removing the camo drops it again.[10]
- general.fireproofBlocks is true, so framed blocks are completely fireproof.[10]
- general.enableIntangibleFeature is false, so the intangibility feature is switched off. The config notes that disabling it also stops you moving through blocks that are already marked intangible.[10]
- general.oneWayWindowOwnable is true. Only the player who placed a Framed One-Way Window can change its direction.[10]
- general.glowstoneLightLevel is 15, which is the mod default. Glowstone dust on a framed block gives it the maximum light level in this pack. The allowed range is 0 to 15.[10]
Powered Framing Saw
The Powered Framing Saw settings in this pack all match the mod defaults. The saw uses 50 power per tick while crafting (powered_framing_saw.consumption) and takes 30 ticks per crafting operation (powered_framing_saw.craftingDuration). It stores up to 5,000 power (powered_framing_saw.energyCapacity) and can receive 250 power per tick (powered_framing_saw.maxReceive).[10]
Client options: placement preview and visuals
- general.showGhostBlocks is true, so you see a ghost preview while holding a framed block. general.ghostRenderOpacity is 170, the mod default, on a range of 30 to 255 where 255 is fully opaque.[9]
- general.altGhostRenderer is false. Turn it on if the placement preview misbehaves with certain shaders.[9]
- general.camoMessageVerbosity is DEFAULT. You get a message when a block with a block entity isn't explicitly allowed as a camo, or when a block is explicitly disallowed.[9]
- general.renderCamoInJade is true. According to the config, that means framed blocks are rendered with their camo in Jade, and with it off they would be rendered blank.[9]
- general.showCamoCraftingInJei is true, which the config describes as showing camo application recipes in JEI. general.showAllRecipePermutationsInEmi is false, and the config says that with it off only the Framing Saw permutations using the Framed Cube are added to EMI. That setting only has an effect when EMI is installed.[9]
- overlay.maxOverlayMode is DETAILED, the highest setting, and every individual overlay option in this pack is also DETAILED. Set the max to ICON or HIDDEN if the overlays clutter your screen.[9]
Only the values with a mod default noted next to them are confirmed to match it, and the others are unverified against the mod defaults. None of the values shown here is marked as changed from the default.[9][10]
What changed in FramedBlocks between versions?
4 parts
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships FramedBlocks 10.6.2, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first, covering 10.3.2 up to 10.6.1.[2][11][12]
10.6.1 and 10.6.0
- 10.6.1 fixed Layered Cube shapes not lining up with the model in horizontal orientations.[11]
- 10.6.0 added the Framed Axe, which keeps all camos on framed blocks broken with it. Handy when you want to move a build without losing your textures.[13]
- 10.6.0 also made fluid camos orientable and improved the Framed Iron Door item texture.[13]
- 10.6.0 fixed Framed Lightning Rods oxidizing because of CopperAgeBackport, and fixed Inner (Sloped) Prism wrongly occluding on certain connected textures blocks.[13]
- 10.6.0 also includes a hopeful fix for a crash where Croptopia crops checked survivability on framed blocks during worldgen.[13]
10.5.3 to 10.5.0
- 10.5.3 fixed a crash with horizontally rotated Compound Slope Panels and added a Brazilian Portuguese translation.[14]
- 10.5.1 fixed a Framed Chest reappearing when it was broken by an Ars Nouveau Touch>Break>Extract spell while crouching.[15]
- 10.5.0 added the Framed Lightning Rod, Framed Pillar Socket, Framed Split Pillar Socket and Framed Path.[16]
- 10.5.0 also added a global overlay display mode config, added a solution hint to the oversized result error tooltip in the Framing Saw, and fixed a crash when applying certain fluids as camos.[16]
10.4.0
- New blocks: Framed Hopper, Framed Elevated Pyramid Slab, Framed Stacked Pyramid Slab, Framed Layered Cube, plus (Vertical) Sloped Double Stairs and (Vertical) Sliced Sloped Stairs.[17]
- Pyramids now connect to Posts, (Half) Pillars, Walls and Fences.[17]
- The mini cube can now be placed on the underside of blocks.[17]
- There is a new option to rotate the camo texture when opening a Framed Trapdoor, and a crash with Additional Placements was fixed.[17]
10.3.2
- Camos read from network packets are now validated, to prevent further errors with certain invalid camos.[12]
- Redstone lamps can be toggled when applied as a camo.[12]
- Wrenches from other mods work in shape rotation recipes without being consumed.[12]
- Ammendments hanging pot support was re-enabled.[12]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for FramedBlocks were available, and the changelog for the pack's current version, 10.6.2, was not among the sources, so what changed in that release is unconfirmed.

If NONE, all connected textures support is disabled If FULL_FACE, connected textures are supported on full faces If FULL_EDGE, connected textures are supported as above and on faces whose connecting edge covers the full block width If DETAILED, connected textures are supported as above and on most faces when interacting with other framed blocks config/framedblocks-client.toml | DETAILED | not documented |
general.detailedCulling If false only full block faces of framed blocks will be culled, if true all outer faces of framed blocks can be culled config/framedblocks-client.toml | true | not documented |
general.discreteUVSteps If true, the UV remapping will use discrete steps to avoid floating point errors config/framedblocks-client.toml | true | not documented |
