What is FramedBlocks?
2 parts
FramedBlocks adds building blocks in lots of shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. The shape list covers cubes, slopes, corners, slabs, stairs, walls, fences, doors, trapdoors, pressure plates, chests and many more. This pack includes FramedBlocks 10.6.2.[1][2]
How it works
The basic idea is simple: right click a Framed Block with almost any solid block and it takes on that block's look. Right click it with Glowstone Dust and it produces light. A Framed Hammer removes the camo again.[1]
The mod also has tools for finer control. The Framed Wrench rotates blocks, the Framed Screwdriver cycles through states of the camo block, and the Framed Blueprint copies Framed Blocks including their camo and glowing state.[1]
Where the quest book puts it
In the quest text I have for this pack, FramedBlocks has no quest of its own. The only place it shows up is in the Modular Routers chapter, which sits in the Logistics group and is chapter 35 of 70 in the book.[3]
There, the Camouflage Upgrade quest a quest in "Modular Routers" says the upgrade makes a Router similar to a Framed Block, and you sneak right click a block to copy its appearance. That quest comes after the Upgrades quest "Upgrades" quest, which itself follows the chapter's first quest, Modular Routers "Modular Routers" quest. Part of that chapter's quest text was not available to me (20 of its 54 quests), so check the quest book for the rest.[3]
The quest book also has a Building Tips chapter with 63 quests. Its text was not available to me, so open it in the quest book to see what it covers.[3]
How do you get started with FramedBlocks?
4 parts
Framed Blocks is a building mod that gives you mock blocks in all sorts of shapes (slabs, slopes, panels, stairs and many more) that can be filled in with any block that isn't a Block Entity. The quest book gives Crafting Tables, Furnaces and Enrichment Chambers as examples of blocks that don't work.[1][4]
In the pack's quest book it sits in the Building Tips chapter, chapter 3 of 70. The "Framed Blocks" quest quest comes right after "Changing Blocks" quest, which comes after "Tools!" quest, which comes after "Building Tips!" quest.[4]
Step 1: Make Framed Cubes
Start with the Framed Cube. One craft gives you 4 of them, and many other Framed recipes in this pack use it as an ingredient.[5]

Step 2: Easy shapes straight from the cube
Once you have a stack of cubes, these are quick wins. The recipes below make the Framed Fence (3 per craft), the Framed Bookshelf and the Framed Button.[5]

The bookshelf also has a framing saw recipe, so you can make it that way instead.[5]
Step 3: Copycat blocks
Next, make the Framed Collapsible Copycat Block. One craft gives 4 of them. The recipes below give 2 Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Panel or 2 Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Slab per craft.[5]

Step 4: Switching between shapes
The pack has 44 rotate-shape recipes that swap a block for a related shape using a wrench. For example, you can turn a Framed Centered Panel into a Framed Centered Slab.[5]

How does FramedBlocks work?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
FramedBlocks doesn't have power, fluids or multiblock machines in the way big tech mods do. The sources I have describe a camo system plus a handful of tools that change how each block behaves. I'll walk you through those, and I'll flag the parts the sources don't cover.[1][6]
Applying and removing camo
- Right-click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right-click it with a fluid container to make it look like the fluid inside. Right-click with an empty fluid container to remove a fluid camo.[1]
- Right-click with Glowstone Dust to make the block produce light.[1]
- Right-click with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]
- If a block can't be used as a camo, you get a message. The pack sets general.camoMessageVerbosity to DEFAULT, which shows the message when the block has a BlockEntity and isn't explicitly allowed, or when it's explicitly disallowed.[7]
Framed blocks broken with a Framed Axe keep their camo instead of dropping it separately.[6][8]

Tools that change block behavior
The Framed Hammer does more than remove camo. Depending on the block you hit, its tooltips show it can switch a block between copycat-style and standard appearance, make a block waterloggable or not, toggle camo texture rotation on a trapdoor, and switch a Framed Item Frame between a camo background and a leather background.[6]
Prism corner blocks automatically turn on a texture offset based on where you place them, so larger surfaces fit together. If you don't want that, left-click the block with the hammer to toggle the offset.[1]
The Framed Wrench, or any item in the forge:tools/wrench tag, rotates a framed block. On most blocks the result depends on which face you click. The tooltips also show the wrench setting the see-through side of a One-Way Window, and switching which faces sloped blocks use for their sloped surfaces. The Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1][6]
Copying builds with the Blueprint
The Framed Blueprint copies framed blocks including their camo and glowing state. It does not copy the rotation of the block itself. It also reports problems: a block may not be copyable right now, it can't copy blocks with fluid camos, and it tells you when you're missing required materials.[1][6]

The Framing Saw
The Framing Saw is how many framed shapes get made. Its tooltips show what it checks: it tells you when you have the wrong item, too few items or too little material, and it shows result size against max size. It can also suggest a smaller block as an intermediate step. If an item was crafted with additive ingredients, the saw warns that those will be lost.[6]
The powered saw starts with no recipe selected. To pick one, click the target slot with any framed block. There is also an AE2 Pattern Encoding mode for the saw.[6]
Display and placement settings in this pack
In this pack, ghost blocks are shown while you hold a framed block (general.showGhostBlocks). The preview opacity is 170 on a 30 to 255 scale, which is also the mod default (general.ghostRenderOpacity). If the preview causes problems with shaders, general.altGhostRenderer switches to an alternate renderer, and the pack leaves it off.[7]
Connected-texture support is set to DETAILED in the pack (general.conTexMode). The config itself warns that anything above FULL_EDGE is at your own risk because of performance impact and unexpected behavior. The overlay options, such as camo rotation, reinforcement and waterlogging, are also all set to DETAILED.[7]
How do you progress through FramedBlocks?
6 parts
The pack's quest book gives Framed Blocks a single quest and no tier ladder of its own. The progression below comes from the in-pack recipes: start with the basic cube, branch into shapes, then move on to the metal and redstone pieces.[4][5]
Where the quest book puts it
The mod's quest, "Framed Blocks" quest, sits in the "Building Tips" chapter (chapter 3 of 70 in the book). The chapter opens with "Building Tips!" quest, which leads to "Tools!" quest. That leads to "Changing Blocks" quest, and Framed Blocks comes right after it.[4]
The same "Changing Blocks" quest also leads to "Chisel Reborn" quest, "Camol" quest, "Chipped" quest and "Rechiseled" quest. The quest text says Framed Blocks gives you mock blocks that you fill in with any block that isn't a block entity (Crafting Tables, Furnaces and similar). It names vertical slabs, slopes and quarter blocks as example shapes.[4]
Tier 1: the Framed Cube
Everything starts with Framed Cube. Many simple pieces branch straight off it, including Framed Button, Framed Fence, Framed Bars, Framed Bookshelf and Framed Tank. The Framed Axe and Framed Blueprint also use it.[5]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: framedblocks:framed_cube
One craft gives you 4 cubes, and nearly everything else builds on them.
Tier 2: copper and the adjustable pieces
The next step is the copycat line. Framed Collapsible Copycat Block is crafted from the cube plus copper, and it is the input for Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Slab and Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Panel. The plain adjustable doubles, Framed Adjustable Double Slab and Framed Adjustable Double Panel, are crafted from Framed Collapsible Block.[5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: framedblocks:framed_adj_double_copycat_slab
Each craft gives you 2 adjustable double copycat slabs.
Tier 3: tools, rails and shape swaps
Framed Hammer combines with a Framed Panel to make a Framed Centered Panel, and with a Framed Slab to make a Framed Centered Slab. The hammer is also used with a Framed Floor Board to make 16 Framed Corner Strip.[5]
The fancy rails need extra materials. Framed Fancy Powered Rail uses the cube, redstone dust and gold ingots, and one craft makes 6. The fancy activator, detector and plain rails also have slope versions made through the frame recipes.[5]

Slab and panel variants swap back and forth using a wrench. The pack has 44 of these rotate-shape recipes, for example Centered Panel to Centered Slab and Divided Slab to Divided Panel (Horizontal).[5]
A pack change to know about
The recipe for Framed Iron Trapdoor was changed by the pack, so don't trust a recipe from the mod's default setup. The recipe below is the in-pack version.[5]
Crafting Shapeless
Framed Trapdoor
- any iron ingot
Recipe id: framedblocks:framed_iron_trapdoor
The pack's version is shapeless: a Framed Trapdoor plus an iron ingot.
The other crafting route
The pack also has 161 recipes of the frame recipe type, with ids under framing_saw. Each one makes a different framed block. For example, Framed Bookshelf can be made from 3 books this way, and Framed Hanging Sign from a chain, giving 2. Use them as an alternative to the crafting-grid recipes.[5]
Phantom Paste can be crafted two ways. Chorus fruit plus a slime ball makes 8, and a phantom membrane plus a slime ball makes 16.[5]

Which All the Mons quests use FramedBlocks?
3 parts
Framed Blocks has one quest in this pack, and it sits in the Building Tips chapter, which is chapter 3 of 70 in the quest book. The quest is "Framed Blocks" quest.[4]
Where it sits in Building Tips
The chapter opens with "Building Tips!" quest. From there, "Tools!" quest is the tools branch, and "Changing Blocks" quest comes right after it. That quest is about changing the blocks you already have into different shapes, designs or entirely new blocks. "Framed Blocks" quest unlocks once you finish it.[4]
It shares that spot with the other block-changing quests: "Chisel Reborn" quest, "Camol" quest, "Chipped" quest and "Rechiseled" quest. They all unlock after the same quest, so you can pick the order yourself.[4]
What the quest tells you
The quest calls Framed Blocks the single most important building mod. It explains that you get mock blocks that you can fill in with any block that isn't a block entity. Block entities are things like the Crafting Table, the Furnace or the Enrichment Chamber.[4]
The frames come in all sorts of shapes, such as vertical slabs, slopes and quarter blocks. The quest also pitches it as the way to get Netherite stairs, or to get perfect angles in your builds.[4]
Unverified Which exact item the Framed Blocks quest asks you to hand in is not shown in the pack data used for this guide.
A related mention in Modular Routers
Framed Blocks also gets a passing mention in the Modular Routers chapter. a quest in "Modular Routers" says the upgrade makes a Router similar to a Framed Block: sneak right click a block to change the Router's appearance to it. That quest comes after "Upgrades" quest. It is only a comparison, so you don't need Framed Blocks for it.[3]
Which FramedBlocks config options matter?
4 parts
Everything here lives in the FramedBlocks client config file. Going by the descriptions in that file, these options cover how framed blocks are shown and how the interface behaves on your side. Below is how the pack sets each one.[9]
Placement preview
- general.showGhostBlocks is true in the pack. This option controls whether ghost blocks are shown when you are holding a framed block.[9]
- general.ghostRenderOpacity is 170, which is the same as the mod default. The allowed range is 30 (almost completely transparent) to 255 (fully opaque).[9]
- general.altGhostRenderer is false. The config says that if it is true, an alternate renderer is used for the placement preview, which may solve issues with certain shaders.[9]
How framed blocks look
- general.conTexMode is set to DETAILED. The config describes this level as supporting connected textures on full faces, on faces whose connecting edge covers the full block width, and on most faces when interacting with other framed blocks. The other choices are NONE, FULL_FACE and FULL_EDGE.[9]
- general.solidFrameMode is DEFAULT. According to the config, this means certain blocks use the default frame texture with a solid background texture when a framed block has no camo. NEVER and ALWAYS are the other options.[9]
- general.detailedCulling is true, so all outer faces of framed blocks can be culled, not just full block faces.[9]
- general.forceAoOnGlowingBlocks is true. The config describes this as applying ambient occlusion to framed blocks that glow from applied glowstone dust, instead of the vanilla behavior of disabling it for light-emitting blocks.[9]
- general.renderItemModelsWithCamo is true. When it is true, item models are rendered with their camo, if present.[9]
- general.fancyHitboxes is true. The option controls whether certain framed blocks should show fancy hitboxes.[9]
Overlays
overlay.maxOverlayMode caps how much all overlays can show, and the pack sets it to DETAILED. Each individual overlay can be HIDDEN, ICON (icon only) or DETAILED (full info), and in this pack they are all DETAILED. That covers overlay.camoRotationMode, overlay.copycatStyleMode, overlay.itemFrameBackgroundMode, overlay.oneWayWindowMode, overlay.prismOffsetMode, overlay.reinforcedMode, overlay.splitLineMode, overlay.stateLockMode, overlay.toggleWaterlogMode, overlay.toggleYSlopeMode and overlay.trapdoorTextureRotationMode.[9]
The material overlay toggles general.showButtonPlateTypeOverlay and general.showSpecialCubeTypeOverlay are both true. The config describes the first as showing a material overlay on non-wooden buttons and pressure plates once a camo is applied, and the second as showing a type overlay on special cube blocks once a camo is applied. Both need a resource reload to take effect.[9]
Recipe viewers, Jade and messages
- general.showCamoCraftingInJei is true. When it is true, camo application recipes are shown in JEI.[9]
- general.showAllRecipePermutationsInEmi is true. The config says that when it is true, all possible Framing Saw recipes will be added to EMI, otherwise only the ones using the Framed Cube. It only has an effect when EMI is installed.[9]
- general.renderCamoInJade is true. When it is true, framed blocks are rendered with their camo in Jade, otherwise they are rendered blank.[9]
- general.camoMessageVerbosity is DEFAULT. Per the config, DEFAULT shows a message when a block has a BlockEntity and isn't explicitly allowed as a camo, or when the block is explicitly disallowed. DETAILED also shows one for non-solid blocks that aren't explicitly allowed, and NONE shows no message.[9]
What changed in FramedBlocks between versions?
2 parts
All the Mons 1.3.0 ships FramedBlocks 10.6.2, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The changelogs below cover the 10.5.1 to 10.6.1 releases, which are the ones I have notes for. I have no pack changelog entries for this mod.[2][10][11]
Newer releases
- 10.6.1: fixed Layered Cube collision shapes not lining up with the model in horizontal orientations.[10]
- 10.6.0: added the Framed Axe, which keeps all camos on framed blocks you break with it. That is handy when you want to move a build without losing your textures.[12]
- 10.6.0: fluid camos can now be oriented, and the Framed Iron Door item texture was improved.[12]
- 10.6.0: fixed CopperAgeBackport making Framed Lightning Rods oxidize, and fixed Inner (Sloped) Prism wrongly occluding on certain connected textures blocks.[12]
- 10.6.0: a possible fix for a crash where Croptopia crops checked survivability on framed blocks during worldgen. The changelog itself says "hopefully" here.[12]
Older releases
- 10.5.3: fixed a crash with horizontally rotated Compound Slope Panels and added a Brazilian Portuguese translation.[13]
- 10.5.2: Collapsible Block and Collapsible Copycat Block gained rotation support.[14]
- 10.5.2: fixed the camo application recipe duplicating items when camo consumption is disabled, and fixed the shape rotation recipe duplicating stackable wrenches.[14]
- 10.5.2: fixed Double Slabs and Panels consuming only one slab or panel when placed by Create schematics, and fixed Layered Cube consuming multiple camos when placed from an item with a pre-applied camo.[14]
- 10.5.2: fixed connected textures handling on Framed Stairs and on certain double block edge cases, plus Compound Slope Panel missing slope faces when yslope=true.[14]
- 10.5.2: fixed a crash when a thick lattice is placed on top of or below certain wall-tagged blocks, and fixed a phantom paste not dropping when an intangible framed block is broken by automation.[14]
- 10.5.2: fixed multi-line details in interact overlays overlapping the icon at high GUI scales, and added a Russian translation.[14]
- 10.5.1: fixed a Framed Chest reappearing when broken by an Ars Nouveau Touch>Break>Extract spell while crouching.[11]
