What is FramedBlocks?
2 parts
FramedBlocks adds blocks in lots of shapes, like slopes, stairs, slabs and doors, that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. You pick the shape and the look separately.[1]
This pack includes FramedBlocks 10.6.2.[2]
Where the quest book puts it
The pack's quest book covers the mod in the quest "Framed Blocks" quest. It sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 2 of 31 in the book and has 30 quests. The quest's tasks are to get a Framed Cube, a Framed Hammer and a Framed Wrench.[3]
The same chapter also has other building helpers, such as "Building Gadgets" quest, "Faster Building" quest and "Cable Facades" quest.[3]
Unverified The sources here do not show where the Framed Blocks quest sits in the order of its chapter, or whether the ATM Star path uses this mod. Check the quest book for that.
The basics
- Place a framed block, then right click it with the block whose texture you want. The framed block copies that look.[1][3]
- Right click a framed block with Glowstone Dust to make it produce light. The quest book also points this out as a neat feature.[1][3]
- Right click with the Framed Hammer to remove the camo again.[1]
- The Framed Wrench rotates a framed block. On most blocks, the result depends on which face you click.[1]
How do you get started with FramedBlocks?
5 parts
Framed Blocks lets you build custom shapes that copy the texture of almost any other block in the pack. The pack's quest book covers it in the quest "Framed Blocks" quest, in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips" (chapter 2 of 31). The quest asks for a Framed Cube, a Framed Hammer and a Framed Wrench, so that is the order to follow.[3]
Step one: make Framed Cubes
The Framed Cube comes first because many other Framed Blocks recipes use it as an ingredient, including the Hammer, the Wrench, the button and the glowing cube. One craft gives you 4 cubes.[4]

Step two: make the Hammer and the Wrench
Both tools are crafted from a Framed Cube, so you can make them right after your first batch of cubes.[4]

They are useful for more than the quest. The Hammer is used to make a Framed Centered Panel from a Framed Panel and a Framed Centered Slab from a Framed Slab. Any wrench tool can also swap a Centered Panel and a Centered Slab back and forth.[4]

Step three: copy a texture onto a framed block
Place a framed block, then use the block with the texture you want on it. The framed block copies that look.[3]
Step four: make it glow
Use Glowstone Dust on a framed block and it will glow. The light level it gives off is set by general.glowstoneLightLevel, which is 15 in this pack, the same as the mod default.[3][5]
There is also a dedicated Framed Glowing Cube that you can craft from a Framed Cube.[4]

Where to go next
Many of the other shapes, such as slopes, rail slopes and bouncy cubes, also have Framing Saw recipes. The recipe dump counts 161 recipes of that type.[4]
The Powered Framing Saw is tuned in the same server config file. In this pack it stores 5,000 energy, can receive 250 per tick, and uses 50 per tick over 30 ticks per craft, all matching the mod defaults.[5]
How does FramedBlocks work?
6 parts
FramedBlocks is a building mod, so its "mechanics" are mostly about camouflage and shaping rather than big machines. The one real machine is the Powered Framing Saw, and the sources only explain its power settings. Here is what the pack tells us, and where it differs from the mod's own behaviour.[1][5]
Camouflage: how framed blocks work
Every framed block starts as a plain shape and takes on the look of another block. Right click it with almost any solid block to copy that block's appearance. On 1.19 and later you can also right click with a fluid container to look like that fluid, and use an empty fluid container to remove it again.[1]
To take a normal camo off, right click with a Framed Hammer. Right click with Glowstone Dust to make the block produce light.[1]
Glowstone light is set by general.glowstoneLightLevel, which is 15 here, the same as the mod default and the top of its 0 to 15 range.[5]
What the pack's server config changes
- general.allowBlockEntities is false, so blocks that have block entities can't be placed in framed blocks as camo.[5]
- general.enableIntangibleFeature is false. The intangibility feature is off, and that also stops you moving through blocks already marked as intangible.[5]
- general.fireproofBlocks is true, so framed blocks are completely fireproof.[5]
- general.oneWayWindowOwnable is true, so only the player who placed a Framed One-Way Window can change its direction.[5]
Shaping and rotating
Slopes, corner slopes and inner corner slopes can also be placed vertically. For slope slabs and double slope slabs, hold sneak while placing to put them upside down.[1]
The Framed Wrench, or any other item in the wrench tool tag, rotates a framed block. On most blocks the result depends on which face you click. The Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1]
Prism-style corners switch on a texture offset automatically based on where you place them, so large surfaces line up. If you don't want that, left click the block with the Framed Hammer to toggle the offset.[1]
The pack also has 44 recipes of the rotate-shape type that turn one shape into another using a wrench. For example, a Framed Centered Panel becomes a Framed Centered Slab and back again.[4]

Crafting: table and framing saw
Everything starts with the Framed Cube, and the recipe below makes several at once. Many other shapes are made from it, for example a Framed Button, a Framed Stone Button or a Framed Bouncy Cube.[4]

Powered Framing Saw
The Powered Framing Saw runs on power. In this pack every one of its settings matches the mod default.[5]
- powered_framing_saw.energyCapacity: it stores up to 5,000 power.[5]
- powered_framing_saw.maxReceive: it can take in 250 power per tick.[5]
- powered_framing_saw.consumption: it uses 50 power per tick while crafting.[5]
- powered_framing_saw.craftingDuration: each crafting operation takes 30 ticks.[5]
Unverified The sources don't explain how framed storage blocks such as the Framed Chest and Framed Hopper handle items for automation, or how the Powered Framing Saw connects to pipes and cables. Test these in your world before you build around them.
How do you progress through FramedBlocks?
5 parts
In this pack, the quest book puts FramedBlocks in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 2 of 31. The quest there is "Framed Blocks" quest. It asks you to get a Framed Cube, a Framed Hammer and a Framed Wrench.[3]
That quest is the only FramedBlocks entry in the chapter I have, and it doesn't split the mod into formal tiers. So the path below follows the in-pack recipes, starting from the Framed Cube.[3][4]
Step 1: the Framed Cube
Everything starts with the Framed Cube, and one craft gives you 4 of them. Place one down, then use a block with the texture you want on it to copy that texture over.[3][4]

Step 2: your tools
The Framed Hammer and Framed Wrench both come straight from a Framed Cube, so they are your next step. These are the two tools the quest asks for.[3][4]

The hammer is also used in other recipes, such as the Framed Centered Panel recipe below, which takes a Framed Panel. A wrench can then rotate a Centered Panel into a Framed Centered Slab and back again.[4]

Step 3: variants and shapes
From here the Cube branches out. The pack has 161 recipes of the frame type that need no item inputs, each making a different result. It also has 136 shaped recipes that turn Framed Blocks items into other Framed Blocks items, plus 44 shape-rotating recipes that use a wrench.[4]
- Framed Glowing Cube: has its own recipe built on the Framed Cube. The quest also says you can use Glowstone Dust on a framed block to make it glow.[3][4]
- Framed Bouncy Cube and Framed Tank: both have recipes built on the Framed Cube.[4]
- Framed Activator Rail Slope, Framed Detector Rail Slope and Framed Powered Rail Slope: each is built on a Framed Slope and the matching vanilla rail.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use FramedBlocks?
1 part
Framed Blocks has one quest in this pack, and it sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter. That chapter is chapter 2 of 31 in the quest book and has 30 quests. It is a collection of handy mods and tricks rather than a single questline.[3]
The Framed Blocks quest
The quest "Framed Blocks" quest has three item tasks: the Framed Cube, the Framed Hammer and the Framed Wrench.[3]
The quest text explains the core idea. Framed blocks let you make custom blocks and shapes that use the texture of almost any other block in the pack. Place a framed block, then use the block with the texture you want on it to copy that texture over.[3]
The quest also mentions one extra trick: using Glowstone Dust on a framed block makes it glow.[3]
The sources don't say what comes directly before or after this quest in the chapter, so I can't give you its exact position in the order.[3]
Which FramedBlocks config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
FramedBlocks has a server config that changes how the blocks behave and a client config that only affects how they look on your screen. Here are the options you're most likely to care about, with the exact values this pack uses.[6][7]
Server options: how framed blocks behave
- general.allowBlockEntities is false in this pack, so blocks that have block entities can't be placed inside framed blocks as a camo.[7]
- general.consumeCamoItem is true. Applying a camo uses up the item, and removing the camo drops it again.[7]
- general.fireproofBlocks is true, so framed blocks are completely fireproof.[7]
- general.enableIntangibleFeature is false, so the intangibility feature is switched off. The config notes that disabling it also stops you moving through blocks that are already marked intangible.[7]
- general.oneWayWindowOwnable is true. Only the player who placed a Framed One-Way Window can change its direction.[7]
- general.glowstoneLightLevel is 15, which is the mod default. Glowstone dust on a framed block gives it the maximum light level in this pack. The allowed range is 0 to 15.[7]
Powered Framing Saw
The Powered Framing Saw settings in this pack all match the mod defaults. The saw uses 50 power per tick while crafting (powered_framing_saw.consumption) and takes 30 ticks per crafting operation (powered_framing_saw.craftingDuration). It stores up to 5,000 power (powered_framing_saw.energyCapacity) and can receive 250 power per tick (powered_framing_saw.maxReceive).[7]
Client options: placement preview and visuals
- general.showGhostBlocks is true, so you see a ghost preview while holding a framed block. general.ghostRenderOpacity is 170, the mod default, on a range of 30 to 255 where 255 is fully opaque.[6]
- general.altGhostRenderer is false. Turn it on if the placement preview misbehaves with certain shaders.[6]
- general.camoMessageVerbosity is DEFAULT. You get a message when a block with a block entity isn't explicitly allowed as a camo, or when a block is explicitly disallowed.[6]
- general.renderCamoInJade is true. According to the config, that means framed blocks are rendered with their camo in Jade, and with it off they would be rendered blank.[6]
- general.showCamoCraftingInJei is true, which the config describes as showing camo application recipes in JEI. general.showAllRecipePermutationsInEmi is false, and the config says that with it off only the Framing Saw permutations using the Framed Cube are added to EMI. That setting only has an effect when EMI is installed.[6]
- overlay.maxOverlayMode is DETAILED, the highest setting, and every individual overlay option in this pack is also DETAILED. Set the max to ICON or HIDDEN if the overlays clutter your screen.[6]
Only the values with a mod default noted next to them are confirmed to match it, and the others are unverified against the mod defaults. None of the values shown here is marked as changed from the default.[6][7]
What changed in FramedBlocks between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships FramedBlocks 10.6.2. The mod has been in the pack since Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so it's been with you from the very early releases.[2]
Notable mod changes
- FramedBlocks 10.6.1: fixed Layered Cube shapes not aligning with the model in horizontal orientations. If you built with horizontal layered cubes and the hitbox looked off, this is the fix. The pack's 10.6.2 is a later version than this one.[2][8]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for FramedBlocks were available, so any changes the pack itself made to this mod across releases are unverified.
