What is Create: Sound of Steam?
2 parts
Create: Sound of Steam is a Create addon that adds pipe organs to Minecraft. It gives you many different organ stops to build with, which opens up a lot of new music technology if you like making your own tunes.[1]
It's for you if you enjoy Create and want to build instruments that sound different from the usual note block setups. It isn't about boosting your progression. It's a creative, musical extra.[1]
What you get
The mod adds a range of pipe types, including Gedackt, Diapason, Gamba, Piccolo, Subbass, Trompette, Nasard, Posaune, Vox Humana, Viola, Vox Celeste, English Horn, Rohrflote, Hohlflute, Prestant and a Haunted Steam Whistle. The project page says more are on the way.[1]
In this pack
This pack ships Create: Sound of Steam version 0.6.4+1.21.1, in the file pipeorgans-0.6.4+1.21.1.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests, progression gating or ATM Star path involvement for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Treat it as an optional addon until the pack shows otherwise.
How do you get started with Create: Sound of Steam?
4 parts
Create: Sound of Steam is a Create addon that adds pipe organ stops, so you can build your own organ. The project page calls it an early beta, so expect some bugs. In this pack everything starts from crafting-table recipes, and the order below keeps you from crafting things you can't finish yet.[1][3]
First: the Pipe Base
Start with the Pipe Base. The pipe stops in this pack, such as the Diapason and the Subbass, are crafted from it.[3]

Second: the Windchest and its controller
Next, make the Windchest and the Windchest Controller. Both have their own crafting recipes and neither needs a Pipe Base, so you can make them right away.[3]

Third: your first stop
With a few Pipe Bases ready, pick a stop. The Diapason, Gamba and Nasard are made straight from a Pipe Base plus a metal, with no intermediate parts, so they make a good first test.[3]
Fourth: stops that need a boot
The Posaune, Trompette and Vox Humana each take a boot as a component, so craft the boots first. The recipes below show the Dark Oak Boot, Brass Boot and Copper Boot, and the stops that use them.[3]

How does Create: Sound of Steam work?
3 parts
Create: Sound of Steam is a Create addon that adds pipe organ stops to the game. The mod's own description calls it an early beta release, so expect bugs and changes over time. This section sticks to what the pack's recipes and config confirm.[1]
Stops and the Pipe Base
The mod's project page lists the pipe types it adds, including Gedackt, Diapason, Gamba, Piccolo, Subbass, Trompette, Nasard, Posaune and Vox Humana. It also lists Viola, Vox Celeste, English Horn, Rohrflote, Hohlflute, Prestant and a Haunted Steam Whistle. The recipe dump for this pack only shows crafting recipes for some of them, so these are the stops you can craft here: Gedeckt, Diapason, Gamba, Piccolo, Subbass, Trompette, Nasard, Posaune and Vox Humana.[1][3]
Each of those stops has its own shaped crafting recipe in this pack, and the recipe dump marks them as the mod's own recipes. The Pipe Base has a recipe too, shown here.[3]

The Trompette, Posaune and Vox Humana recipes each use a boot, which is a separate item: Brass Boot, Dark Oak Boot and Copper Boot. Each boot has its own recipe.[3]

Windchest and Windchest Controller
The pack has recipes for the Windchest and the Windchest Controller, which is the Windchest Controller. Both appear in the recipe dump as the mod's own recipes.[3]

Goggles and pitch display
The mod has mutation pipes, and while you wear goggles they can show their sounding pitch. This pack leaves that on: displayMutationSoundingPitch is set to true in the client config file, so you can switch it off there if you prefer.[4]
How do you progress through Create: Sound of Steam?
4 parts
Unverified The sources here show no quest guidance for this mod, so there is no quest-guided path to describe. The order below is built only from the in-pack recipes and the materials they ask for. It is a suggested order, not an official tier system.
Everything in Create: Sound of Steam starts with the Pipe Base. Every pipe in this pack uses it, and the recipe also needs a Create fluid pipe plus a copper ingot. So you'll want basic Create piping and some copper before anything else.[3]

Control gear
Next come the parts that run the organ. The Windchest also takes a Create fluid pipe, plus oak planks, redstone and a spruce slab. The Windchest Controller (the Windchest Controller) drops the fluid pipe and asks for a zinc ingot instead, so have some zinc ready.[3]

Wood, copper and iron pipes
The cheapest pipes lean on vanilla wood. The Gedeckt uses spruce, and the Subbass uses dark oak. Both add a Pipe Base and ask for no metal beyond what the base already took.[3]

Recipe id: pipeorgans:crafting/subbass
Metal pipes start with copper and iron. The Nasard only needs a copper ingot on top of the Pipe Base. The Gamba wants an iron ingot and an iron plate. The Piccolo combines a cherry log with an iron ingot.[3]

Recipe id: pipeorgans:crafting/piccolo
Zinc
The Diapason is the zinc pipe: a Pipe Base plus a zinc ingot. If you already made the Windchest Controller, you know where your zinc is coming from.[3]
Brass and boots
The top end of this mod is the pipes that need brass plates and a matching boot. Boots are their own small crafts: Dark Oak Boot comes from dark oak planks, Copper Boot from copper ingots, and Brass Boot from brass ingots.[3]

With a boot made, you can build the brass-plate pipes. The Posaune uses the dark oak boot, the Trompette uses the brass boot, and the Vox Humana uses the copper boot. Each also needs a Pipe Base, so make plenty of bases first.[3]

How does Create: Sound of Steam work with other mods?
2 parts
Create: Sound of Steam is a Create addon, and the pack's recipes show it. The clearest link is the Fluid Pipe. Both organ building blocks you can craft in this pack use it, so you'll need Create's piping before you can start building organs.[1][3]
Pipe Base
The Pipe Base is a shaped crafting recipe that combines a Create Fluid Pipe with a copper ingot. Any ingot in the copper ingot tag works.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any copper ingot |
Recipe id: pipeorgans:crafting/base
Windchest
The Windchest is also a shaped recipe built around a Fluid Pipe. It adds a few vanilla materials, including Oak Planks, Redstone and Spruce Slab.[3]

Unverified No other cross-mod recipes or quests for this mod were found in the available sources, so any further integrations are unconfirmed.
Which Create: Sound of Steam config options matter?
Good news: there isn't much to fiddle with here. The only config option this pack documents for the mod is a client-side display setting, so you won't need to tweak anything to get your organs sounding right.[4]
displayMutationSoundingPitch decides whether the sounding pitch shows up on mutation pipes while you wear goggles. This pack sets it to true, so you'll see the pitch readout when you look at those pipes with goggles on.[4]
Unverified The sources don't show the mod's default for this option, so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed it. No other config values for this mod are confirmed.
