What is Create: Connected?

Create: Connected is an add-on for Create, and the pack ships version 1.1.16-mc1.21.1 of it. It has been in the pack since 1.8.0 or earlier, so if you've been playing for a while, it's likely already in your world.[1]

The mod's own in-game guide says it has a Crowdin page for translations. If you'd like to help translate it, that's the place to contribute.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe the mod's items, blocks or mechanics, so I can't say here what it adds or who benefits most from it. They also don't show where it fits in the pack's progression, whether it is on the ATM Star path, or whether any quests involve it.

How do you get started with Create: Connected?

4 parts

Create: Connected adds extra gadgets on top of Create, including gearboxes, clutches, copycat blocks and fan catalysts. Every recipe for the mod that appears in this pack's recipe dump is marked as changed by the pack, so trust the recipe blocks below and not the recipes from other packs.[3][4]

The sources give no official progression order for the mod, so the order below is a practical one based on what each item does.[3][4]

Start with the Cross Connector

The Cross Connector relays rotation in two directions independently, so it is a simple way to run two separate lines of rotation through one spot.[3][4]

Vertical variants, such as the Vertical 6-way Gearbox and the Vertical Brass Gearbox, are made by converting the regular version with a recipe. The reverse conversions exist too, so you can switch between them.[3]

Control and protect your network

The Centrifugal Clutch is only coupled if the input RPM is faster than a configurable threshold. That makes it a neat way to start a machine only once your power source is up to speed.[3][4]

How does Create: Connected work?

7 parts

Create: Connected mostly extends Create's rotation network with extra gearboxes, clutches, power sources and logistics blocks. This page covers how those pieces behave in this pack, and where the pack's configs or recipes differ from what you may expect.[4][5]

Gearboxes and relays

The Brass Gearbox is a gearbox where the rotation direction of all 4 sides can be configured independently. The Cross Connector relays rotation in two directions independently. The Six-Way Gearbox has shafts on all 6 sides, and its top and bottom spin at half speed.[3][4]

The pack changed the Brass Gearbox recipe, so check the one below rather than relying on the mod's default. You can also convert a Vertical Brass Gearbox back into a regular Brass Gearbox.[3]

The Encased Chain Cogwheel is a Chain Drive with an extra cogwheel. It connects to other chained components in a row, and all shafts connected this way rotate in the same direction. Regular cogwheels can connect to it anywhere in the row, and any part of the row can be rotated by 90 degrees.[3][4]

In the pack's server config, the stress impact of the Brass Gearbox (stressValues.v1.impact.brass_gearbox), the Six-Way Gearbox (stressValues.v1.impact.six_way_gearbox), the Parallel Gearbox (stressValues.v1.impact.parallel_gearbox), the Encased Chain Cogwheel (stressValues.v1.impact.encased_chain_cogwheel) and the Inverted Gearshift (stressValues.v1.impact.inverted_gearshift) is 0 in each case.[4][6]

Clutches, brakes and overstress protection

  • Centrifugal Clutch: only coupled if the input RPM is faster than a configurable threshold.[3][4]
  • Freewheel Clutch: only coupled if the input spins in the correct direction, as configured.[3][4]
  • Overstress Clutch: uncouples after a set delay when the network is overstressed. Right-click it with a Wrench to reset it to the coupled state.[4]
  • Shear Pin: a single-use connector that breaks when the network is overstressed.[4]
  • Brake: produces immense stress when powered, halting the network by overstressing it.[3][4]

The pack sets a powered Brake's stress impact to 16,384 stress units through stressValues.v1.brakeActiveStress. That matches the mod default.[6]

The pack changed this recipe.

Generating and storing rotation

The Crank Wheel lets you apply rotational force by hand. Hold Right-Click to rotate it counter-clockwise, or sneak and hold Right-Click to rotate it clockwise.[4]

In the pack's server config, the stress capacity of the Crank Wheel is 8 (stressValues.v1.capacity.crank_wheel) and the Large Crank Wheel is also 8 (stressValues.v1.capacity.large_crank_wheel).[6]

The Kinetic Battery stores rotation as energy. The pack caps it at 512 su-hours through batteryCapacity, and it discharges at 64 RPM according to batteryDischargeRPM. Both match the mod defaults.[6]

The battery's stress capacity is 32 (stressValues.v1.capacity.kinetic_battery) and its stress impact is 64 (stressValues.v1.impact.kinetic_battery) in this pack's server config.[6]

Fluid Vessel

The Fluid Vessel is a horizontal fluid tank, and it is less efficient than Create's tank when used as a boiler. Right-click it with a Wrench to cycle window shapes.[3][4]

These server config options tune the boiler behavior. All of them sit at the mod defaults in this pack.[6]

The pack changed the Fluid Vessel recipe. You can also convert an existing Fluid Tank straight into a vessel.[3]

Item handling

The Item Silo is a vertical item vault.[4]

The Inventory Access Port helps when space is tight. Ports extend an inventory so that attached components can access it as if they were directly connected. You can attach multiple ports to one inventory. Ports do not add storage space, cannot be daisy-chained, and can be disabled with redstone.[4]

Fan catalysts

The Empty Fan Catalyst takes inserted material to catalyze fan processing. Each filled catalyst is a dedicated bulk-processing device, and its contents do not interact with the environment. The washing, blasting, haunting and smoking catalysts are the ones not marked as for compatible mods. The ending, enriched, freezing, sanding, superheating (seething) and withering catalysts are for compatible mods.[3][4]

The pack changed the Empty Fan Catalyst recipe. Every filled catalyst, such as the Fan Blasting Catalyst or Fan Haunting Catalyst, can be turned back into an empty one through its own recipe.[3]

Redstone and copycats

The Sequenced Pulse Generator has loop and wait instructions. Wait until input changes pauses the sequence, Repeat sequence X times loops it a set number of times, and Repeat sequence if input matches loops it conditionally.[4]

The pack leaves the wildcard Redstone Link feature on. However, allowDualWildcardLink is set to false, so a Redstone Link cannot have wildcards in both slots. Changing it requires a restart.[5][6]

Copycats apply your held item as their material when possible. Click again to cycle orientation or powered state, and use a Wrench to reset the material. The pack's config is set to migrate copycats to Create: Copycats+ when they receive a block update or when their block entities are initialized.[4][5]

Tip: Each component has its own toggle in the common config, for example features.brake, and the pack has all the feature categories (kinetic, logistics, redstone, palette and copycats) enabled.[5]

How do you progress through Create: Connected?

6 parts

Every Create: Connected recipe shown in the pack's recipe data is marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions. The tiers here follow the Create parts each recipe builds on.[3]

Early tier: Andesite casing and shafts

The earliest pieces use andesite casing. That covers the Brake, the Freewheel Clutch, the Centrifugal Clutch and the 6-way Gearbox. The Crank Wheel and Large Crank Wheel are shapeless crafts built on the Create hand crank.[3]

Conversions from Create parts

Several Connected blocks are one-step shapeless conversions of a Create block. The Inverted Clutch comes from a clutch, and the Inverted Gearshift comes from a gearshift. The Linked Transmitter comes from a redstone link. The Item Silo and Fluid Vessel can be converted from an item vault and a fluid tank. The vertical gearbox variants convert from their regular versions, and the pack also has recipes that convert them back.[3]

Next tier: Brass casing and electronics

The next group builds on brass casing, and some recipes also need electron tubes or a precision mechanism. This group includes the Kinetic Bridge, the Kinetic Battery and the Inventory Access Port. The Inventory Bridge is made directly from an Inventory Access Port. The Sequenced Pulse Generator uses a Control Chip, an electron tube and brass plates. The Overstress Clutch sits between the tiers, because it combines andesite casing with an electron tube.[3]

How does Create: Connected work with other mods?

5 parts

Almost every connection between Create: Connected and other mods in this pack runs through Create itself. The recipe dump also shows a few links to other mods. All of the recipes below are marked as changed by the pack, so don't assume they match the mod's defaults.[3]

Swapping between Create and Connected blocks

Several Connected blocks have one-step conversion recipes with Create blocks. You can turn a Clutch into an Inverted Clutch and back again. The same goes for Gearshift and Inverted Gearshift, and for Fluid Tank and Fluid Vessel. Item Vault and Item Silo convert both ways too, as do Redstone Link and Linked Transmitter.[3]

The copycat blocks connect the same way. Copycat Step and Copycat Vertical Step convert into each other. Copycat Slab can be made from either a Copycat Panel or a Copycat Step.[3]

Create parts that Connected builds on

Most Connected kinetic parts are crafted from Create components. That includes the Crank Wheel, Large Crank Wheel, Parallel Gearbox, 6-way Gearbox, Cross Connector, Brass Gearbox and Encased Chain Cogwheel. The Inventory Access Port and Kinetic Bridge also use Create parts.[3]

Several of the clutch-style blocks and the Brake also use plain Minecraft materials or a plate tag. The Centrifugal Clutch, Freewheel Clutch and Overstress Clutch each take any iron plate. The brake takes obsidian and redstone.[3]

Which Create: Connected config options matter?

6 parts

Create: Connected keeps its feature toggles in a common config file and its tunable numbers in a server config file. Wherever the server file lists a mod default, this pack's value matches it. So the pack hasn't changed any of the tuned values below, and you can treat them as the mod's normal behavior.[5][6]

Kinetic Battery

Fluid Vessel as a boiler

Stress values

stressValues.v1.brakeActiveStress is 16,384 stress units for a powered brake, matching the mod default. The brake's base impact (stressValues.v1.impact.brake) is 0.[6]

These components all have a stress impact of 0 in this pack: stressValues.v1.impact.brass_gearbox, stressValues.v1.impact.parallel_gearbox, stressValues.v1.impact.six_way_gearbox, stressValues.v1.impact.centrifugal_clutch, stressValues.v1.impact.freewheel_clutch, stressValues.v1.impact.inverted_clutch, stressValues.v1.impact.overstress_clutch, stressValues.v1.impact.inverted_gearshift, stressValues.v1.impact.shear_pin and stressValues.v1.impact.encased_chain_cogwheel.[6]

On the generator side, stressValues.v1.capacity.crank_wheel and stressValues.v1.capacity.large_crank_wheel are each set to 8.[6]

Feature toggles

Every category toggle is true: feature_categories.kinetic, feature_categories.logistics, feature_categories.redstone, feature_categories.palette and feature_categories.copycats. Every individual feature toggle listed in the file is true as well, so nothing from the mod is disabled.[5]

Copycat migration

migrateCopycatsOnBlockUpdate and migrateCopycatsOnInitialize are both true. They migrate copycats to Create: Copycats+ when a copycat receives a block update or when its block entity is initialized. The copycat category description also says to install Create: Copycats+ to upgrade.[5]

What changed in Create: Connected between versions?

FTB Skies 2 1.16.0 ships Create: Connected 1.1.16 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod was first included in FTB Skies 2 1.8.0 or earlier.[1]

Watch out: The mod's changelog notes that Create: Connected 1.0.0 or above only works with Create 6.0.0 or above. If you ever build your own setup around this mod, keep the versions of Create and Create: Connected matched.[7]

The changelog entry for the mod's 1.1.6 release for Minecraft 1.21.1 points to a more detailed changelog on the mod's GitHub repository. That is the place to look for a full list of changes between mod versions.[7]
