What is YUNG's Bridges?

2 parts

YUNG's Bridges adds naturally generated bridges to the world. It describes itself as the first Minecraft mod to do that. You don't craft or build anything with it: you explore, and the bridges show up on their own.[1]

There are over 15 different types of bridges, and each one has biome-specific variants. So the bridge you find over a ravine or river in one biome won't necessarily look like the one in another.[1]

Version in this pack

This pack ships YUNG's Bridges 26.1.2-NeoForge-6.1.0. It was already in the pack by version 1.0.2 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the world generation.[2]

Worldgen compatibility

The mod is meant to work with every worldgen mod. The project page names YUNG's Better Desert Temples, Better Ocean Monuments, Better Mineshafts, Better Strongholds, YUNG's Extras, Oh the Biomes You'll Go and Biomes O' Plenty.[1]

Tip: If Terralith is in your world, it gives rivers steeper banks. Bridges may still spawn there but will be rare, and the mod's page suggests experimenting with higher spawn rates.[1]

How do you get started with YUNG's Bridges?

1 part

YUNG's Bridges is a worldgen mod, so there is nothing to craft first. It adds naturally generated bridges to the world, and the project page calls it the first Minecraft mod to do that. Your first step is simply to get out and explore.[1]

What to look for

The mod adds over 15 different types of bridges, and each one has biome-specific variants. As you travel, expect the bridge style to change with the biome you are in.[1]

The mod is intended to be compatible with every worldgen mod, including YUNG's Better Desert Temples, YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments, YUNG's Better Mineshafts, YUNG's Better Strongholds, Oh the Biomes You'll Go and Biomes O' Plenty. Other worldgen in the pack should not stop you from finding bridges.[1]

Unverified The sources here show no recipes, quests or config files for this mod in the pack, so how often bridges spawn in this pack and whether the pack changes that are unverified.

How does YUNG's Bridges work?

3 parts

There are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling to set up with YUNG's Bridges. In this pack the mod is pure world generation: the files that describe it only decide where bridges are placed and which bridge layout gets used. So this section is about how bridges end up in your world.[1][3]

Where bridges can spawn

The mod adds its bridge feature through a biome modifier. It targets every biome in the tag yungsbridges:has_structure/bridge and runs in the surface_structures step.[3]

That biome tag contains the vanilla river biomes. It also includes the common river tag, but only if another mod provides it. In practice, you look for bridges over rivers.[4]

The feature the modifier adds is called bridge_list. Its placed version uses only the biome check as its placement rule, with nothing else added on top.[3][5]

Tip: The mod page says Terralith makes rivers have steeper banks. Bridges can still spawn there but will be rare, and the page suggests experimenting with higher spawn rates.[1]

Bridge variants

Each bridge is its own configured feature of the type yungsbridges:bridge, pointing at a bridge layout by its location. The mod page says there are over 15 types of bridges, each with biome-specific variants.[1][6]

Every layout has a plain entry and a rotated entry. The plain one just names the layout. The rotated one names the same layout and sets is_z_axis to false.[6][7]

These are the layouts the data files show:[6]

Biome collections

The mod also ships biome collection tags for badlands, jungle, savanna and taiga. They gather vanilla biomes and, where those mods are installed, biomes from other mods. The badlands collection, for example, includes terralith:savanna_badlands, and the savanna and taiga collections list several Terralith biomes.[28][29][30][31]

Unverified Which bridge layouts spawn in which biomes, and how often, is set in data/yungsbridges/worldgen/configured_feature/bridge_list.json. The sources here do not show that file, so the exact spawn weights and biome-to-variant pairing are not confirmed.

How do you progress through YUNG's Bridges?

2 parts

YUNG's Bridges is a world generation mod, so there is no tier ladder to climb with it. The sources here show it adding bridges to the world, not items you craft or upgrade. What you can learn is which kinds of bridge exist and where the mod looks for places to put them.[4][6][27]

Where bridges can appear

The mod's structure biome tag for bridges points at river biomes, both the vanilla river tag and the common river tag. So if you want to see one, follow rivers.[4]

Bridge variants

Each bridge is a configured feature of the type yungsbridges:bridge. The jar groups them into stone and wood. Every layout has a rotated version that sets the z axis flag to false, so the same bridge can run in either direction.[6][7][26][27]

  • Stone bridges come in several layouts, named 15_1, 16_0, 22_0, 24_0 and 31_0 in the files.[6][9][11][13][15]
  • Stone layouts 16_0, 22_0 and 24_0 also have a broken version, so some of the bridges you find are ruined ones.[17][19][21]
  • Wood bridges are a separate group. The wood layout 17_0 has a broken version too.[26][27]

Unverified How often bridges spawn, and which biomes each variant is allowed in, is set by the biome modifier and placed feature files in the mod's data. The sources here do not show those files, so this guide cannot say.

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book mentions this mod is told in the quest chapters, and the sources here do not show it. Check the quest book in game.

What changed in YUNG's Bridges between versions?

1 part

There is not much history to report for YUNG's Bridges in this pack, and that is fine. FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships version 26.1.2-NeoForge-6.1.0 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

26.1.2-NeoForge-6.1.0

The only note in the mod's own changelog for the version the pack uses is that it is a port to 26.1.2. It does not list any other changes, so there is nothing else to tell you about this release.[32]

Unverified The sources here do not include any pack changelog entries for this mod, so whether any FTB Evolution 2 release changed it is not shown. Check the pack's own changelog for that.

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as yungsbridges, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
