What is YUNG's Extras?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
YUNG's Extras is a collection of small vanilla+ upgrades: extra structures and features that are each too small to be their own mod. Together they work as a finishing touch for the world. It is meant to be the cherry on top of a modpack, and it is described as very lightweight with minimal performance impact.[1]
What you'll find in the world
- Desert Decorations: new and improved Desert Wells, including rare Wishing Wells that may have some treasure at the bottom, plus Desert Obelisks and Flame Outposts.[1]
- Swamp Structures: lots of ruins, ancient pillars, and a few very rare easter egg structures.[1]
The project page describes the Swamp Structures as the most recent release and Desert Decorations as the initial one, and says more content updates are planned. It doesn't say which of these are in the pack's exact build, so treat that list as the mod's general content.[1]
Who it's for
This one is for explorers. You don't craft anything with it or set up a machine. You just come across its structures while you travel, and they make the overworld feel less empty. The mod is designed to be compatible with worldgen mods, including the YUNG's Better Desert Temples, Better Ocean Monuments, Better Mineshafts, Better Strongholds, Witch Huts and Bridges mods.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships YUNG's Extras 1.21.1-NeoForge-5.1.1. It was already included by version 2.25 of the pack or earlier.[2]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests, ATM Star path steps or in-jar guidebook for this mod, so there is nothing confirmed about where it fits in the pack's progression. Treat it as optional worldgen flavor.
How do you get started with YUNG's Extras?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Here's the honest starting point: YUNG's Extras is mostly about things you find in the world, not things you craft. The project page describes it as a collection of structures, features and vanilla+ upgrades that finish off a modpack. So there's no crafting order to follow first.[1]
What to do first: explore
The best first step is to go exploring and look for the structures the mod adds. The project page lists these as the main content so far.[1]
- Desert content: new and improved desert wells, desert obelisks and flame outposts.[1]
- Wishing wells: a rare desert well variant that may have some treasure at the bottom, so check any unusual well you come across.[1]
- Swamp structures: lots of ruins and ancient pillars, plus a few very rare easter egg structures.[1]
Works alongside other worldgen mods
The mod is intended to be fully compatible with every worldgen mod. The project page names YUNG's Better Desert Temples, Better Ocean Monuments, Better Mineshafts, Better Strongholds, Witch Huts and Bridges as examples. If you see those structures in your world, they sit happily alongside the extras.[1]
What I can't confirm for this pack
Unverified I couldn't confirm any crafting recipes, quests, config options or item descriptions for this mod in this pack, so there are no recipes to show here. How common each structure is in this pack, and what loot you'll find, is also unverified.
How does YUNG's Extras work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide
This one is different from most mods in the pack: nothing in the sources describes machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for YUNG's Extras. What the mod does is add small structures and features to world generation, so the core mechanics are really about where and how those get placed.[1][3][4]
How the structures get added
Both the desert and swamp content are added with biome modifiers that insert features during the surface_structures generation step. Each modifier points at a biome tag, and that tag decides which biomes can get the structures.[3][4][5][6]
Desert decorations
The desert modifier applies to the plain desert biome. It also covers biomes that other mods put in the desert tags, plus the lush desert biomes from Terralith and from the biomesoplenty namespace, and desert shrubland and verdant sands from Project Vibrant Journeys. Those extra entries are optional, so they only count when the matching mod is installed.[3][5]
- Desert wells in small, medium and large sizes.[3]
- Dry wells in the same small, medium and large sizes.[3]
- Wishing wells in the same small, medium and large sizes. The mod's project page says these are rare and may have treasure at the bottom.[1][3]
- Obelisk variants: the standard one, a creeper one, a ruined one and a rare one.[3][7][8][9][10]
- A giant torch, a ruins feature and a chillzone, each with its own custom feature type.[3][11][12][13]
Each well variant uses the same well feature type, and the config gives it a template location and a radius. Normal and dry wells use a radius of 1 for small, 2 for medium and 3 for large. All three wishing wells use a radius of 1.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]
The obelisks work a bit differently. They share one obelisk feature type, and each variant just points at its own structure template.[7][8][9][10]
Vanilla desert wells are removed
The mod ships a second biome modifier that removes the vanilla desert well from the surface_structures step. It uses the same list of desert biomes as the decorations tag. So in those biomes you should see the mod's wells in place of the vanilla one.[5][23][24]
Swamp structures
The swamp modifier applies to swamp and mangrove swamp, plus any biomes that other mods add to the swamp tags.[4][6]
- Pillars, in several numbered variants.[4]
- Cubbies, in several numbered variants. Each one points at its own template location.[4][25][26]
- Arches, in several numbered variants, each with its own template location.[4][27][28]
- Double arches, which are the largest group of swamp variants and use their own double arch feature type.[4][29][30]
- Two miscellaneous features: a swamp church and a swamp ogre.[4]
The project page describes the swamp update as lots of ruins, ancient pillars and a few very rare easter egg structures. It also says the mod is meant to work with other worldgen mods, including the other YUNG's structure mods, and has minimal performance impact.[1]
Unverified How often each structure spawns, and how far apart they generate, is not confirmed by the available sources. The pack also has no config files for this mod to adjust it.
How do you progress through YUNG's Extras?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide
This mod doesn't give you a tier ladder to climb. What its files show in this pack is world generation: small structures and loot you stumble on while exploring deserts and swamps. Think of it as a bonus to find, not a stage to unlock.[5][6][31][32][33]
Where the structures appear
- Desert decorations (the ruins, obelisks, giant torch and chillzone) are set to generate in the vanilla desert, plus other desert biomes from other mods when those are present, such as Terralith's and Biomes O' Plenty's lush deserts and Project Vibrant Journeys' desert shrubland and verdant sands.[5]
- Swamp structures are set to generate in the swamp and the mangrove swamp, plus any biomes tagged as swamps by other mods.[6]
- The mod also has a tag for its own desert wells, using the same list of desert biomes as the decorations.[24]
What you can find in the desert
The desert has several obelisk variants: a regular one, a creeper one, a rare one and a ruined one. There is also a giant torch, a ruins feature and a chillzone.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
Wells come in small, medium and large sizes, with radii of 1, 2 and 3. Each size has a normal and a dry version.[14][15][16][17][18][19]
Loot to look for
The desert ruins chest is mostly Sand, but it can also give you Gold Ingot, Wheat and an Emerald. Sand is by far the most likely roll.[33]
The chillzone chest is mostly water potions, with some Cookie mixed in. Nice for a snack, but nothing that moves your progression forward.[31]
The mod's desert archaeology loot table gives a single roll and can produce Diamond, Emerald or Gold Ingot.[32]
What changed in YUNG's Extras between versions?
There is not much version history to tell for YUNG's Extras in this pack, and I would rather keep it short than pad it out.[34][35]
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships YUNG's Extras 26.1.2-NeoForge-6.1.0. The mod was already in the pack by FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in 1.1.0.[35]
The mod's own changelog for that version, 6.1.0, is a single line: it is a port to 26.1.2.[34]
Unverified The sources here show no pack changelog entries for YUNG's Extras, so any change the pack made to this mod between releases is not confirmed here.
