What is Item Collectors?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Item Collectors adds collector blocks that pull in dropped items within a set range and put them straight into storage. If you're tired of chasing item drops around your farms or base, this mod is for you. It's a small, simple utility mod, and that's its charm.[1]

This pack includes Item Collectors 1.1.10 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[2]

The two collectors

  • The Basic Item Collector has a range of up to 5 blocks. Right-click it to open its GUI.[1]
  • The Advanced Item Collector reaches up to 7 blocks, opens its GUI the same way, and can also filter items. Items can be whitelisted or blacklisted.[1]

How it works

  1. Place the block you want the items to go into, such as a chest.[1]
  2. Place the Item Collector on top of it. Collected items go into the block directly below the collector.[1]
  3. Right-click the collector and use the arrow buttons to set the range separately for the x, y and z axes.[1]
Tip: There's no cap on how many items it collects. A collector instantly picks up everything in its range.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Item Collectors fits in this pack's progression. It isn't on the ATM Star path, and no quests involve it. I also can't confirm whether the pack changes the recipes or the 5 and 7 block ranges from the mod's own project page, so check the recipes in-game. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Item Collectors?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

Item Collectors adds two blocks, and both pick up items lying in an area around themselves. Here is the order I'd make them in.[1][3]

Start with the Basic Collector

Start with the Basic Collector. It picks up items in an area around itself, and the mod's project page lists a range of up to 5 blocks. The recipe below is the exact in-pack version.[1][3][4]

Basic CollectorMod recipe

The Basic Collector, the one without a filter.

Place it and set it up

  1. Place the block you want the items to go into.[1]
  2. Place the collector on top of that block. Collected items go into the block directly below the collector.[1]
  3. Right-click the collector to open its screen. Use the arrow buttons (Increase Range and Decrease Range) to set the range separately for the x, y and z axes.[1][3]

There is no cap on how many items get collected: the collectors instantly grab everything in range.[1]

Upgrade to the Advanced Collector when you need a filter

If the Basic Collector picks up things you don't want, make the Advanced Collector. The project page lists a range of up to 7 blocks, and this one can filter the items it picks up.[1][3][4]

The Advanced Collector, the one with a filter.

Right-click it to open its screen. There you can switch the filter between Whitelist and Blacklist, and choose whether it should Match NBT or Ignore NBT. You can also toggle Range Shown or Range Hidden, which is useful for checking that the area covers what you want.[1][3]

Tip: Place the block that should receive the items first and the collector on top of it. Collected items are placed into the block below the collector.[1]

How does Item Collectors work?

4 parts

Item Collectors is a small mod with two blocks, the Basic Collector and the Advanced Collector. Both pick up items lying in an area around themselves. The advanced one can also filter what it picks up.[1][5]

Setting one up

  1. Place down the block you want the items to go into, such as a storage block.[1]
  2. Place the collector on top of it. Collected items are put into the block directly below the collector.[1]
  3. Right-click the collector to open its GUI and set the range.[1]

Range

In the GUI you change the range for the x, y and z axes separately with the arrow buttons. The screen shows the current size as a range readout in the form width by height by depth, with Increase Range and Decrease Range buttons.[1][5]

The maximum range comes from the config. In this pack the basic collector tops out at 5 (General.basicCollectorMaxRange) and the advanced collector at 7 (General.advancedCollectorMaxRange). Both options accept values from 1 to 10.[7]

Filtering

Filtering is a feature of the advanced collector. It is switched on in this pack with General.advancedCollectorFilter set to true. The basic collector's filter option, General.basicCollectorFilter, is set to false.[1][7]

The advanced collector's GUI has a Filter area and a few toggles:[5]

  • Whitelist or Blacklist: choose whether the filter lists the items to pick up or the items to ignore.[5]
  • Match NBT or Ignore NBT: choose whether item data has to match the filter entry.[5]
  • Range Shown or Range Hidden: choose whether the collector's area is displayed in the world.[5]

Performance limit

The mod's project page says collectors instantly collect every item in range. This pack adds a cap, though. Performance.maxInsertions is set to 20, which is the most items a collector tries to pick up and insert in one tick.[1][7]

The config notes that lowering the number can help performance when many items are lying around, for example when the storage below is full. A value of -1 removes the limit, and the option accepts -1 up to 10,000.[7]

Tip: If items seem to be picked up slowly from a big pile, the per-tick cap of 20 in the config is the first thing to check.[7]

Both blocks drop themselves when broken, and the loot table includes a condition that the drop must survive an explosion.[8][9]

How do you progress through Item Collectors?

3 parts

Item Collectors adds the Basic Collector and the Advanced Collector to this pack. Each has its own shaped crafting recipe, and the sources here show no upgrade recipe linking one to the other.[6]

Basic Collector

The basic collector is crafted with a shaped recipe that comes from the mod itself. The recipe block below shows the exact in-pack version.[6]

Breaking and moving them

Both collectors drop themselves when you break them, so you can pick one up and move it to a new spot. Their loot tables also carry a survives-explosion condition.[8][9]

Which Item Collectors config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide

Everything you can tune for the collectors lives in one file, config/itemcollectors-common.toml. Good news: this pack leaves every option at the mod default, so there are no pack-specific changes to watch out for.[10]

Range

Filters

Performance

Performance.maxInsertions is the maximum number of items a collector will try to pick up and insert in a single tick. This pack sets it to 20, which is the default. The allowed range is -1 to 10,000, and -1 means no limit.[10]

Tip: If your game starts to lag when there are lots of items lying around, for example when the storage under a collector is full, reducing Performance.maxInsertions may help.[10]

What changed in Item Collectors between versions?

1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Item Collectors 1.1.12+a, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 26.1. The mod was already in the pack by FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier. Here is what changed across the mod's own releases.[11]

Mod releases

  • 1.1.11: the initial release of Item Collectors for Minecraft 1.21.11.[12]
  • 1.1.12: listed under the update to Minecraft 26.1. It fixes changes to item filters not always getting saved, and updates the Brazilian Portuguese translations.[12]
  • 1.1.12a: fixes a crash on dedicated servers. This is the version in the pack right now.[11][12]

If you run a server, the 1.1.12a crash fix matters most for you, since it targets dedicated servers. If you edit item filters, the 1.1.12 fix means your filter changes should now be saved reliably.[12]

Unverified The sources here show no pack changelog entries for Item Collectors, so what changed for it between individual FTB Evolution 2 releases is not shown. Check the pack's own changelog for that.
