What is Item Collectors?

2 parts

Item Collectors adds collector blocks that grab items lying within a set range and drop them into an inventory for you. This pack includes version 1.1.12 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.20.2 on Forge.[1][2]

There are two tiers. The Basic Item Collector reaches up to 5 blocks, and the Advanced Item Collector reaches up to 7 blocks and can also filter items. The mod page mentions whitelisting and blacklisting for filtering. Right-click either one to open its GUI.[1]

How it behaves

  • Collected items go into the block directly below the collector, so place your chest or other container first and put the collector on top.[1]
  • You set the range separately for the x, y and z axes with the arrow buttons in the GUI.[1]
  • There is no cap on how many items it collects. It instantly picks up everything in range.[1]

In the quest book

The pack's quest book has its own quest for the mod: "Item Collectors" quest. It sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 and holds 37 quests. The quest's task is the item OR Filter, a filter item rather than a collector block.[3]

The sources show no changes to the mod's values or recipes in this pack. The ranges above are what the mod's own page describes.[1][3]

How do you get started with Item Collectors?

4 parts

Item Collectors is a small mod with two blocks, and the order is simple: make the Basic Collector first, then upgrade to the Advanced Collector when you want filtering. The pack's quest book has an entry for it called "Item Collectors" quest in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44).[3][4]

Step 1: the Basic Collector

This is your starting point. It picks up items in an area around itself, so it is a great way to stop drops from lying all over the floor. Here is the in-pack recipe:[5]

Basic CollectorMod recipe

Recipe id: itemcollectors:basic_collector

In this pack its maximum range is set to 5 in General.basicCollectorMaxRange. The basic collector has no filter, because General.basicCollectorFilter is false.[6]

Step 2: place it and set the range

  1. Place down the block you want the items to go into, such as a chest.[1]
  2. Place the collector on top of that block. Collected items go into the block below it.[1]
  3. Right-click the collector to open its screen, then use the arrow buttons to change the range for the x, y and z axes.[1][5]

Step 3: upgrade to the Advanced Collector

The advanced recipe uses a basic collector as one of its inputs, so you need to build step 1 first.[4]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

Empty slotBasic CollectorEmpty slot

Recipe id: itemcollectors:advanced_collector

Its maximum range in this pack is 7 (General.advancedCollectorMaxRange), and its filter is switched on (General.advancedCollectorFilter is true). In its screen you can switch between Whitelist and Blacklist, choose whether to Match NBT or Ignore NBT, and toggle whether the range is shown or hidden.[5][6]

Tip: Use the range display toggle in the advanced collector's screen to check what area it covers before you walk away from it.[5]

One pack-specific limit

Each collector tries to pick up and insert at most 20 items per tick in this pack, set by Performance.maxInsertions. The config notes that lowering this number can help performance when many items are lying around, for example when the storage is full.[6]

How does Item Collectors work?

5 parts

The Item Collectors mod is simple: a collector block picks up items lying in an area around itself and puts them into an inventory. There are two versions, the Basic Collector and the Advanced Collector.[1][5]

Placing a collector

Collected items go into the block directly below the collector. So you place the block you want the items to end up in first, then put the collector on top of it.[1]

  1. Place the block you want the items to go into.[1]
  2. Place the collector on top of that block.[1]
  3. Right-click the collector to open its GUI and set it up.[1]

Setting the range

In the GUI you change the range separately for the x, y and z axes with the arrow buttons. The screen shows the current size as a range readout in the form width x height x depth, and the buttons are labelled Increase Range and Decrease Range.[1][5]

This pack caps how far you can go. The basic collector's maximum range is set by General.basicCollectorMaxRange, which is 5 here, and the advanced collector's by General.advancedCollectorMaxRange, which is 7. Both options accept values from 1 to 10.[1][6]

Filtering

The advanced collector can filter which items it picks up. The GUI has a Filter section and a toggle between Whitelist and Blacklist. There is also a toggle between Match NBT and Ignore NBT, and a toggle that shows or hides the collector's range in the world (Range Shown or Range Hidden).[1][5]

Filters are switched on per collector type in the config. In this pack General.advancedCollectorFilter is true and General.basicCollectorFilter is false, so only the advanced collector has a filter.[6]

Pickup speed limit

In this pack, a collector tries to pick up and insert at most 20 items per tick, set by Performance.maxInsertions. The config notes that lowering this number can help performance when lots of items are lying around, for example when the storage below is full. A value of -1 removes the limit, and the option accepts -1 to 10,000.[6]

Tip: If the inventory under a collector fills up, the items stay on the ground and the collector keeps trying to insert them. That is the situation the pickup limit is meant to keep cheap, so keep an eye on the storage below.[6]

How do you progress through Item Collectors?

3 parts

Item Collectors keeps its progression simple: you move from the Basic Collector to the Advanced Collector. You start with the basic one and then upgrade to the advanced one.[4]

Tier 1: Basic Collector

The basic collector is the entry point. It has its own in-pack crafting recipe, so you don't need any other collector to make it.[4]

Tier 2: Advanced Collector

The advanced collector is the upgrade. Its recipe builds on the basic collector, so you make the first tier before you can make this one.[4]

Where the quest book covers it

The pack's quest book has a quest called "Item Collectors" quest in the chapter "Useful mods and Items". Its only task is the OR Filter filter item, so it does not ask for one named collector.[3]

The same chapter also has "Magnet" quest, which asks for the Basicmagnet, and "Compactor" quest, which asks for the Compacter.[3]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Item Collectors?

The pack's quest book has a single quest for Item Collectors, and it sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items".[3]

The quest is "Item Collectors" quest, titled "Item Collectors". What it asks of you is one task: hand in OR Filter. The book gives it no description text, and the task is not an item from the Item Collectors mod itself.[3]

Some neighbouring quests in this chapter ask for the same filter item: "The Trash Cans" quest, "Compact Machines" quest and "The Compasses" quest. The nearby "Gateway" quest asks for Mod Filter instead.[3]

The book doesn't state an order within the chapter, so there is no confirmed order for this quest relative to the others. The chapter also has no other quest that mentions Item Collectors.[3]

Which Item Collectors config options matter?

3 parts

Everything you can tune for the collectors lives in one file, config/itemcollectors-common.toml. Good news: this pack leaves every option at the mod default, so there are no pack-specific changes to watch out for.[6]

Range

Filters

Performance

Performance.maxInsertions is the maximum number of items a collector will try to pick up and insert in a single tick. This pack sets it to 20, which is the default. The allowed range is -1 to 10,000, and -1 means no limit.[6]

Tip: If your game starts to lag when there are lots of items lying around, for example when the storage under a collector is full, reducing Performance.maxInsertions may help.[6]

What changed in Item Collectors between versions?

1 part

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships with Item Collectors 1.1.12, built for Minecraft 1.20.2 on Forge. The mod was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so you have had it for a while.[2]

Mod releases

Here are the changes from the mod's own changelog, newest first. It's a small, steady list of fixes and translation updates.[7]

  • 1.1.12: Fixed changes to item filters not always getting saved. Brazilian Portuguese translations were also updated. This is the version in your pack.[2][7]
  • 1.1.11: Added a config option to limit how many items a collector tries to pick up and insert in a tick. Turkish translations were added too.[7][8]
  • 1.1.10: Updated Simplified Chinese translations.[7][8]
  • 1.1.9: Fixed collectors trying to collect empty item entities.[7][8]
  • 1.1.8: Fixed a crash with certain mods when transferring items.[7][8]
  • 1.1.7: Initial release of Item Collectors for Minecraft 1.20.[7][8]
Tip: The 1.1.12 fix means filter edits should now reliably stick. If you saw a filter revert on an older build, that is the bug this release addresses.[7]

Unverified No pack changelog entries mention Item Collectors, so whether the pack changed any of its values or recipes is unverified.
