What is Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is all about jewelcrafting. You build modular pieces of jewelry by combining patterns with materials, then wear them for bonuses. The mod advertises more than 10,000 possible jewelry combinations and 7 new gemstone items to hunt down.[1]

This pack runs version 1.21.1-1.6.0 of the mod.[2]

How jewelcrafting works

Everything happens at the Jewelcrafting Station block. You pick a pattern, and that pattern decides what kind of bonus the piece gives, such as bonus Attributes. The materials you use decide which specific bonus you get, and their quality decides how strong it is. More precious gems make more powerful jewelry.[1]

You know some patterns from the start. You unlock the rest by finding or trading for Artisan Scrolls, so exploring pays off here.[1]

The Jeweler villager

The mod adds a new villager profession. Villagers that take a Jewelcrafting Station become Jewelers. They buy and sell materials, sell finished jewelry, and sell advanced patterns, so they're a handy shortcut if you'd rather trade than loot.[1]

Who it's for

If you like tinkering with gear, collecting things and fine-tuning your stats, this mod is for you. It's also very datadriven, and datapacks and addons can expand its content.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show where this mod fits in the pack's overall progression, and they don't confirm any pack-specific changes to its recipes or configs.

How do you get started with Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

4 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry lets you build modular jewelry at a Jewelcrafting Station. Each piece comes from a pattern plus gem materials, so your first job is to get the tools and some gems. Here is the order I'd do it in.[1]

Make the guide

Start with Jewelcrafting and You, the "Jewelcrafting and You" book. This pack changed its crafting recipe, so use the one below rather than what you remember from the mod.[3][4]

Build the Jewelcrafting Station

The Jewelcrafting Station is where jewelry gets crafted. The pack changed this recipe too.[1][3][4]

Some patterns are known from the start and can be crafted at the station straight away. Others need an Artisan Scroll that you loot or trade for.[1][4]

Cast your first gems

Materials decide which bonus a piece gives, and their quality decides how strong it is. The primary part of a piece sets the quality for the whole thing, so good gems matter.[1][4]

This pack adds casting table recipes for Garnet, Onyx and Peridot. Each one takes 90 of its molten fluid (Molten Garnet, Molten Onyx or Molten Peridot), so you will want a Hephaestus Forge casting setup for them.[3]

Hunt for more patterns

Once you have the station and some gems, go looking for more patterns. Many can be found or traded for throughout the world. Jewelers, the villagers who work at a Jewelcrafting Station, buy and sell materials and jewelry, and sell the secrets of more advanced patterns. The Piglin Signet Ring pattern can be found in Nether Fortresses and Bastions.[1][4]

How does Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry work?

5 parts

Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry is built around one block and a lot of mix and match. You craft modular jewelry from patterns and materials at the Jewelcrafting Station. What matters is which patterns you know, which materials you feed in, and where you find both.[1][4]

Crafting at the Jewelcrafting Station

Jewelry is crafted from a pattern at the Jewelcrafting Station. Some patterns you know from the start, while others need an Artisan Scroll that you loot or trade for. The station is also the workplace of the Jeweler villager.[1][4]

One pack extra: when you craft a Jewelcrafting Station, the pack's server script grants you the stage ftb:jewler_wares.[6]

Patterns, parts and quality

Each pattern gives a type of bonus, such as bonus attributes. The materials you use decide the specific bonus, and the quality of those materials decides how strong it is. Better gems mean a more powerful piece.[1]

Every piece has a primary part, and that part sets the quality of the whole piece of jewelry. When a material is used as the primary part, the potency of all the bonuses on the piece is scaled by that material's quality value.[4]

The bonus types that the mod's text describes are:[4]

  • Immunity to a chosen effect.[4]
  • When hit, you gain an effect for a number of seconds.[4]
  • An effect on projectile hit.[4]
  • Makes Piglins neutral.[4]
  • A trade discount on items when trading.[4]

Item tooltips show the Applicable Materials for a part and a Bonuses when Crafted header, so check them before you commit your gems.[4]

Artisan Scrolls and learning patterns

An Artisan Scroll (Artisan Scroll) teaches you a pattern. The guide tells you the status of each one: an unlocked pattern is available by default and can be crafted right away at the station, while a locked pattern needs you to find its scroll first. A scroll for a pattern you already know says it is already learned.[1][4]

The guide also tells you where patterns come from:[4]

  • Most patterns, including the bane ring, barbed band, stalwart ring and tearstone ring, can be found or traded for throughout the world.[4]
  • The haggler ring pattern can be traded for from Jewelers.[4]
  • The piglin signet ring pattern can be found in Nether Fortresses and Bastions.[4]

Gems

The mod adds 7 obtainable gemstone items. In this pack, Garnet, Onyx and Peridot can also be cast from molten fluid in a Hephaestus Forge casting table. These recipes are added by the pack, and each gem takes 90 of the matching molten fluid.[1][3]

Loot and the Jeweler

Finished jewelry and gems also turn up as loot. The pack leaves Worldgen.enableDynamicJewelryLoot on (true), so jewelry can be inserted into loot tables based on what they already contain, for example tables with gems and equipment.[5]

The mod's inject file adds a roll that gives a ring with weight 3 or a necklace with weight 1, generated from the all_lootable patterns.[7]

Gems and Artisan Scrolls come from separate loot modifier tables with their own chances:[8][9][10][11]

  • The generic gem loot table has a 0.35 chance to add gems from the lootable gems tag.[8]
  • The generic pattern loot table has a 0.125 chance to add a scroll. A generic pattern has weight 3 and a high quality pattern has weight 1.[9]
  • The library pattern loot table has a 0.5 chance to add a scroll, with generic and high quality patterns equally weighted.[10]
  • The nether pattern loot table has a 0.08 chance to add a scroll. The weights are 2 for generic, 1 for high quality and 5 for nether patterns.[11]

Villages can generate a Jeweler's House. The pack's Worldgen.jewelerHouseWeight is 2.[5]

The Jeweler villager buys and sells materials, sells finished pieces of jewelry, and sells the secrets of more advanced patterns. The village jeweler chest can hold Artisan Scrolls, rings and necklaces, along with emeralds, bread, gold ingots and gems.[1][12]

Unverified Exactly which patterns and items each Jeweler sells, and at what prices, is set in the mod's trade loot table files, and the sources here do not show their contents.

How do you progress through Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry?

3 parts

The sources here don't lay out a tier ladder for Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry in this pack. What they do show is how you get the crafting station, how the pack lets you cast gems, and where jewelry patterns and gems turn up in loot. Here is that path.[3][12]

Start: Jewelcrafting Station and guide

The pack changed the recipes for both the Jewelcrafting Station and the Jewelcrafting and You, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Use the recipes below.[3]

Find patterns and jewelry in loot

The mod's own data names ring patterns called simple band, gemset ring, improved gemset ring and superior gemset ring. They appear together in its jewelry generation test loot tables.[13]

The village jeweler chest in the mod's data can hold a pattern recipe, rings (simple band or gemset ring patterns) and necklaces (simple chain or simple amulet patterns). It can also hold emeralds, bread, gold ingots and gems from the lootable gems tag.[12]

The mod also ships a generic pattern loot modifier. It has a 0.125 chance to add one pattern recipe. That pattern comes from the generic lootable tag at weight 3, or from the high quality lootable tag at weight 1.[9]

A generic gem loot modifier has a 0.35 chance to add a roll from the lootable gems tag. The count is binomial with n of 5 and p of 0.6.[8]

Unverified Which chests and mobs these pattern and gem loot modifiers apply to in this pack, and what the nether, library and piglin barter pattern modifiers add, is set in the loot modifier files under data/irons_jewelry/loot_table/modifiers. The sources here do not show those files.

How does Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry work with other mods?

1 part

The clearest link between Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry and the rest of the pack is Hephaestus Forge. The pack adds casting table recipes that turn molten materials into some of the mod's gems: Garnet, Onyx and Peridot. Each recipe takes 90 of the matching molten item.[3]

And for peridot, using ftb:molten_peridot.

Shared gem and ingot tags

Beyond those recipes, the mod's own data files use shared tags instead of only its own items, so gems and ingots from other mods can fit in.[14][15][16]

  • The jeweler villager's buyable and sellable gem lists are built from shared gem tags (garnet, onyx and peridot among them), not from fixed item ids.[14][15]
  • The loot handler's medium gearscore tag groups gold ingots, emeralds, and garnet, moonstone, onyx, peridot, ruby, sapphire and topaz gems, plus golden apples, enchanted golden apples and netherite scrap. It also lists a mithril scrap from Iron's Spellbooks, marked as optional.[16]
  • The high gearscore tag lists diamond gems and netherite ingots, with mithril and pyrium ingots as optional entries.[17]
  • The very high gearscore tag holds only an optional Iron's Spellbooks spellbook.[18]
  • The low gearscore tag lists iron ingots, lapis and amethyst.[19]

Which Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry config options matter?

1 part

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry only has two server-side options worth knowing about in this pack, and both sit at the mod's defaults. The pack hasn't changed either one, so you get the standard behavior from the mod.[20]

Server config: Worldgen

  • Worldgen.enableDynamicJewelryLoot is set to true, which matches the default. When it's on, jewelry items are inserted dynamically into loot tables based on what those tables already contain. For example, loot tables with gems and equipment can automatically generate jewelry items.[20]
  • Worldgen.jewelerHouseWeight is set to 2, which also matches the default. This is the weight of the Jeweler's House in village generation.[20]
Tip: If you want more jewelry from exploring, leave the dynamic loot option on, which is how this pack ships it. Jewelry can then turn up in loot tables that contain gems and equipment.[20]

Unverified How the Jeweler's House weight of 2 compares with other village buildings, and how often you'll actually find one in a village, isn't confirmed by the available sources.
