What is FTB Armory?

FTB Armory is part of this pack. The pack ships version 26.1.2.6 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since version 1.0.2 or earlier.[1]

How do you get started with FTB Armory?

5 parts

FTB Armory is all about metals, and the one you start with is Adamantite. This pack ships ore blocks for it (Adamantite Ore and Deepslate Adamantite Ore), plus ingots, plates, gears, rods, armor, tools and even ME storage parts. Here is the order I'd go in.[2][3]

Step 1: Turn ore into ingots

Raw Adamantite, Adamantite Dust and both ore blocks can all be smelted into an Adamantite Ingot. Each of them has a furnace recipe and a blasting recipe, so use whichever you prefer. The ingot is the base form of the metal, so everything else starts here.[2][3]

The furnace route from raw ore. A blasting version of the same recipe exists too.

Step 2: Compress and split your metal

Ingots pack into a Block of Adamantite, and the block gives you 9 ingots back. Nuggets work the same way: 9 Adamantite Nugget come from crafting, and nuggets can be crafted back into an ingot. Raw ore has its own storage block, Block of Raw Adamantite, which unpacks into 9 Raw Adamantite.[2]

One block gives you 9 ingots back.

Step 3: Cast it with molten metal

If you're using Hephaestus Forge, the pack adds its own casting recipes for Adamantite. A casting table turns 90 Molten Adamantite into an ingot or a plate, and 10 into a nugget. A casting basin turns 810 into a block. The mod's own casting recipes use the same amounts with its own molten adamantite fluid, and the pack's versions use the pack's fluid.[2]

Step 4: Make rods and gears

Adamantite Rod is a normal crafting recipe that makes 4 at a time. You can also cast one from 45 Molten Adamantite. The Adamantite Gear is a casting recipe from the mod that costs 360 Molten Adamantite.[2]

Step 5: Upgrade into armor and tools

The Adamantite gear is made through smithing recipes: Adamantite Helmet, Adamantite Chestplate, Adamantite Leggings, Adamantite Boots, Adamantite Axe and Adamantite Hoe each have one. Here is the helmet as an example.[2]

Tip: Get a steady supply of Adamantite ingots going before you chase the rest of the mod. Gears, plates, armor and the ME storage parts such as 1M Adamantite ME Storage Component all use the Adamantite line.[2][3]

      How does FTB Armory work?

      7 parts

FTB Armory is mostly a materials and gear mod, so its core mechanics are less about big machines and more about how you find the metals, turn them into ingots and cast them. Here is what the pack's data shows. It covers where the ores generate, what they drop, the ways to get ingots and what the storage upgrades do.[2][3]

      Where the ores generate

The mod adds three metals, each in its own dimension. Adamantite is in the Overworld, Aeternium is in the Nether and Aurichalcum is in the End. Adamantite replaces stone or deepslate and comes in a stone ore and a deepslate ore, so check both when you dig.[3][4][5][6][7]

      • Adamantite, small veins: vein size 4, placed 7 times per chunk attempt, with a rarity filter of 10 and a discard chance on air exposure of 0.5.[6][8][9]
      • Adamantite, medium veins: vein size 8, placed 2 times, rarity filter 10, and restricted to heights between -64 and -4.[6][10][11]
      • Adamantite, large veins: vein size 12 with a rarity filter of 90, so they are the rarest. Their discard chance on air exposure is 0.7.[6][12][13]
      • Adamantite, buried veins: vein size 8, placed 4 times, rarity filter 10. The discard chance on air exposure is 1.0, the highest of the four types.[6][7][14]
      • Aeternium: [[block-note]][5]

Correction to the list above: the Aeternium and Aurichalcum entries follow here. Nether Aeternium Ore replaces netherrack in veins of size 3, placed 16 times with a rarity filter of 2, at heights between 32 and 100.[5][15][16]

Endstone Aurichalcum Ore replaces end stone in veins of size 3, placed 16 times with a rarity filter of 3, at heights between 16 and 72.[4][17][18]

      What the ores drop

Adamantite ore, deepslate adamantite ore and Aeternium ore all work the same way. With Silk Touch you get the ore block itself. Otherwise you get the raw ore, and Fortune applies the standard ore drops bonus. Adamantite drops Raw Adamantite, and Aeternium drops Raw Aeternium.[19][20][21]

      From ore to ingot

Adamantite Ingots can be made in a furnace or a blast furnace, from either the deepslate ore or Adamantite Dust. Tiny dust can be crafted into Adamantite Dust. Nine ingots and a block convert back and forth, and nuggets work the same way.[2]

        Crafting Shapeless

        Recipe id: ftbarmory:adamantite_nugget

        An ingot makes 9 nuggets.

        Casting with the smeltery

If you run a Hephaestus Forge smeltery, you can cast the metals from molten metal. Adamantite Ingots cost 90 of molten Adamantite on a casting table, nuggets cost 10 and a Block of Adamantite costs 810 in a casting basin. The Adamantite Gear cast on a table costs 360. Aeternium blocks also cost 810 of molten Aeternium in a basin.[2]

The pack adds its own versions of the Adamantite ingot, nugget and block casts, plus the Aeternium block cast. These use the pack's molten fluids instead of the Hephaestus ones that the mod's own compat recipes use. The numbers are the same, but the fluid is not. The gear cast in the sources uses the Hephaestus molten Adamantite.[2]

        Gear upgrades and crossover crafting

A lot of the mod's gear is made with smithing transform recipes. The sources count 34 of them making FTB Armory items, including the Adamantite Axe and Adamantite Boots.[2]

Some items need other mods. The Primordial Miner is made with an Occultism ritual that takes any creeper from the Occultism creepers tag. The Aurichalcum Blood Orb comes from a Neo Vitae Ara Vitae recipe. The Aurichalcum Relic comes from an Apotheosis salvaging recipe.[2]

              Storage upgrades and cells

The metals each have a backpack stack upgrade and a storage stack upgrade. Each multiplies the number of stacks that fit in a slot. The Adamantite backpack upgrade gives x16, Aeternium gives x24 and Aurichalcum gives x32. The Adamantite storage upgrade gives x32 and Aeternium gives x48.[3]

There are also ME storage components and item storage cells per metal: 1M for Adamantite, 4M for Aeternium and 16M for Aurichalcum. The mod's rounds carry the tooltip that only one set of rounds can be loaded into a gun.[3]

Machine cores and the smeltery block

The mod has Adamantite, Aeternium and Aurichalcum Machine Cores, plus the Aeternium Essentia Smeltery block. The loot tables for the Adamantite and Aeternium cores only load when Oritech is installed, and the smeltery's only loads when Thaumaturge is installed.[3][22][23][24]

How do you progress through FTB Armory?

              4 parts

Unverified Where FTB Armory sits in the pack's quest book is not shown in the sources here, so the order below follows the three metal tiers and their recipes rather than a quest path.

FTB Armory gives you three metals to climb through: Adamantite, Aeternium and Aurichalcum. Each has its own ore or dust route to an ingot, and the ME storage cells scale up with the tier: 1M Adamantite, 4M Aeternium and 16M Aurichalcum.[2]

              Tier 1: Adamantite

Adamantite is the starting tier and the one with the most gear. It generates as stone ore and deepslate ore. Both drop Raw Adamantite, with a Fortune bonus, or the ore block itself if you mine it with Silk Touch.[19][20]

You can turn raw ore, ore blocks or Adamantite Dust into an Adamantite Ingot in a furnace or a blast furnace. You can also craft one from nuggets, or get 9 ingots from a Block of Adamantite.[2]

The pack adds its own Hephaestus Forge casting recipes that use FTB's molten Adamantite. 90 units make an ingot or a plate, 10 make a nugget and 810 make a block. The mod's own casting recipes use the same amounts with Hephaestus's molten Adamantite. Gears are cast from 360 units and rods from 45, and those two come from the mod's own recipes.[2]

The gear is upgraded through smithing table recipes. There are smithing recipes for the Adamantite Helmet, Adamantite Chestplate, Adamantite Leggings and Adamantite Boots, plus the Adamantite Pickaxe, Adamantite Axe, Adamantite Shovel, Adamantite Hoe and Adamantite Shield.[2]

For storage, the 1M Adamantite ME Storage Component is a crafted item, and the 1M Adamantite ME Item Storage Cell has both a shaped and a shapeless recipe.[2]

                The 1M storage component.

                Tier 2: Aeternium

Aeternium comes from a nether ore. It drops Raw Aeternium with a Fortune bonus, or the ore block with Silk Touch. Raw ore, nether ore and dust can all be smelted or blasted into an Aeternium Ingot, and a Block of Aeternium breaks back into 9 ingots.[2][21]

Casting works like Adamantite, with pack-added recipes using FTB's molten Aeternium: 90 units for an ingot or a Aeternium Plate, 10 for a nugget and 810 for a block. The Aeternium Gear is cast from 360 units of Hephaestus's molten Aeternium.[2]

The 4M Aeternium ME Storage Component is crafted, and the 4M Aeternium ME Item Storage Cell is the 4M step up from the Adamantite cell.[2]

                Tier 3: Aurichalcum

Aurichalcum is the top metal. An Aurichalcum Ingot comes from smelting or blasting Aurichalcum dust, or blasting Aurichalcum End ore. The pack also adds casting recipes with FTB's molten Aurichalcum: 90 units for an ingot, 10 for a nugget and 810 for a Block of Aurichalcum.[2]

The 16M Aurichalcum ME Item Storage Cell is the 16M cell, and the recipe dump lists a shapeless recipe for it.[2]

                Crossover items

Tip: Casting in a smeltery needs Hephaestus Forge. The ingot, nugget and block amounts are the same in the pack's recipes and the mod's, so molten metal goes just as far either way.[2]

How does FTB Armory work with other mods?

                4 parts

FTB Armory's metals (Adamantite, Aeternium and Aurichalcum) connect to other mods in this pack through recipes: Hephaestus Forge for casting, Applied Energistics 2 for storage components and Occultism for the Primordial Miner. The sources here show no quests involving FTB Armory.[2]

                Casting with Hephaestus Forge

The big link is casting. Each metal has a molten fluid, and you cast it into ingots, nuggets, plates, rods, gears and blocks. Nuggets, ingots, plates, rods and gears are made on a casting table, and blocks on a casting basin. The costs are the same for every metal.[2]

The mod's own casting recipes use the Hephaestus molten fluids, such as Molten Adamantite. On top of those, the pack adds its own recipes for nuggets, ingots, plates and blocks that use the pack's molten fluids instead, such as ftb:molten_adamantite, at the same amounts. For gears and rods, the sources only show the mod's own Hephaestus recipe.[2]
