What is BEER?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.8.0 guide

BEER is included in this pack at version 1.2 (the file is beer-1.2.jar). It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what BEER adds, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. I haven't confirmed its items, recipes, configs or mechanics, so this page doesn't describe them.

Unverified I found no confirmed information on a link between BEER and the ATM Star path, or on any quests involving it. Check in-game before assuming either.

How do you get started with BEER?

3 parts

BEER is all about the enchanting table. It extends how far away bookshelves can be and lets you tune the table's range yourself. The sources here don't show any crafting steps for it, so this section covers how the mod works in this pack and what to check first.[2]

Know what the mod changes

Bookshelves can be placed further from an enchanting table than in vanilla, so you can build a bigger and tidier enchanting room. When you hover over a table, its tooltip shows the current bookshelf range.[2]

The table's info page in JEI shows the default range, and the mod says the range can be set in its config file. Jade also has a BEER integration option.[2]

Adjust a table with items

The mod lets you use items to change an individual table's range. You use them by right-clicking the enchanting table. The modifiers cover width along the X-axis, height along the Y-axis and width along the Z-axis.[2]

Holding a modifier in your offhand decreases the range instead of increasing it.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show how to obtain the modifier items or what their recipes are, and no quests for this mod are available to confirm it. JEI in your world has an Enchanting Table Modifiers category, which is the place to look. This site does hold FTB Evolution 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Know the pack's settings

The pack leaves item modifiers switched on, so the right-click system works out of the box. See enableItemModifiers.[3]

  • Each use changes the range by 1, set by modifierAmountPerUse, which matches the mod default.[3]
  • A table can be modified by at most 5 per axis, in either the positive or negative direction. This is maxItemModifiersPerAxis, also the mod default.[3]
  • Modifier items are consumed when you use them, because consumeItems is true. JEI shows whether an item is consumed or not.[2][3]
  • XP costs are off in this pack (enableXpCosts is false), so adjusting a table costs you no experience. If it gets turned on, increasing costs XP and decreasing gives XP back, with xpCostPerModifier set to 50 per modifier level.[3]
Tip: Because modifier items are consumed here, plan your room layout before you start clicking. Holding an item in your offhand lets you step the range back down if you overshoot.[2][3]

How does BEER work?

4 parts

BEER is all about the enchanting table. It stretches how far away bookshelves can be and still count, and it lets you tune that range on individual tables. The sources here only describe this enchanting table side of the mod, so that is what this section covers.[2]

Extended bookshelf range

With the mod, bookshelves can be placed further from an enchanting table than in vanilla and still be detected. Each table shows its current range in its tooltip as Bookshelf Range, written in the form width x height x width.[2]

The mod's own info text says the range can be configured in its config file, and that items can be used to change the range of individual tables on the fly.[2]

Changing a table's range with items

The modifier items are used on the enchanting table with a right-click. Their JEI descriptions show that they modify Width along the X-axis, Height along the Y-axis, and Width along the Z-axis.[2]

By default a use increases the range. Hold the item in your offhand instead and it decreases the range.[2]

Tip: In JEI, the Enchanting Table Modifiers category tells you for each item whether it is consumed or not consumed when you use it on a table.[2]

Pack configuration

These are the values the pack sets in the mod's common config file. Together they control how the item-based modifying behaves.[3]

  • enableItemModifiers is true, so the item-based table modifications are switched on.[3]
  • consumeItems is true, so items are consumed when you modify a table. This matches the consumed or not consumed label you see in JEI.[2][3]
  • modifierAmountPerUse is 1, so each item use changes the range by 1. The allowed range for this option is 1 to 10.[3]
  • maxItemModifiersPerAxis is 5, the maximum number of item modifiers per axis, counted in either the positive or negative direction. The allowed range for this option is 1 to 32.[3]

XP costs

The mod can charge XP for modifying a table. Increasing the range costs XP and decreasing it gives XP back. In this pack enableXpCosts is false, so modifying a table does not touch your XP.[3]

If the option is turned on, xpCostPerModifier sets the amount, and the pack has it at 50 per modifier level. That is both what an increase costs and what a decrease gives back.[3]

Tip: With the pack's settings, each use shifts a table's range by 1 on an axis, up to 5 in either direction, and costs no XP. Items are consumed, so plan for that when you are tuning a table.[3]

Which BEER config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: BEER keeps its settings simple, and everything lives in one file, config/beer-common.toml. In this pack, every option matches the mod default, so nothing here has been changed from what the mod ships with.[4]

Turning the feature on and off

  • enableItemModifiers is true. This enables item-based enchanting table modifications, which is the main feature of the mod. Set it to false and that feature is switched off.[4]
  • consumeItems is true. Items are consumed when you use them to modify enchanting tables. That is the mod default.[4]

XP costs

  • enableXpCosts is false, so XP costs for item modifiers are off. If you turn it on, increasing costs XP and decreasing gives XP back.[4]
  • xpCostPerModifier is 50, the same as the mod default. It only matters once XP costs are enabled. Increasing costs that much XP and decreasing gives that much back. The allowed range is above 1.[4]

How far you can push the modifiers

  • maxItemModifiersPerAxis is 5, the mod default. It caps how many item modifiers you can apply per axis, positive or negative. The allowed range is 1 to 32.[4]
  • modifierAmountPerUse is 1, the mod default. It sets how much each item use modifies the range. The allowed range is 1 to 10.[4]
Tip: Since the pack leaves everything at the mod default, you don't need to touch this file to follow the guide. If you do edit it, the XP cost options only do anything after you set enableXpCosts to true.[4]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as beer, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
