What is Jade 🔍?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
Jade is an information HUD mod. It shows you information about whatever block or entity you're looking at. It's a fork of Hwyla/Waila, the classic 'what am I looking at?' tooltip mods, rebuilt for modern Minecraft with a focus on a better user experience and a better API.[1]
This pack ships Jade 15.9.2 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since version 1.3 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the setup.[2]
Jade is for pretty much every player. In a big modded pack you'll constantly run into blocks and machines you don't recognise, and Jade lets you identify them just by looking at them. Compared to Hwyla, Jade brings these improvements:[1]
- A redesigned API.[1]
- More vanilla addons.[1]
- More configuration options.[1]
- Better accessibility, including a key that narrates your target.[1]
Jade can run on the client side only, but many of its features need Jade on the server side as well. Examples are showing item storage, the fuel amount in a brewing stand, and the bees inside a beehive.[1]
Default keys
- Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1 toggles the overlay.[1]
- Keypad 2 toggles the liquid display.[1]
- Keypad 3 shows recipes for what you're looking at (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 4 shows uses for what you're looking at (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 5 narrates your target.[1]
Unverified The sources don't confirm whether this pack changes any of Jade's default keybinds or settings, or whether a given server has Jade installed. Server-dependent features may not show up on every server.
How do you get started with Jade 🔍?
2 parts
Jade is an information HUD: it shows you details about whatever block or entity you're looking at. It can be installed on the client side only, so there's nothing to build or unlock to start using it. What matters is knowing the default keys and a few display settings.[1]
Unverified No quests or crafting recipes for Jade were found in the pack data, so there is no first item to craft for this mod.
First steps
- Look at any block or creature. The tooltip appears and tells you what you're looking at.[1]
- Press Keypad 0 to open the configuration screen. This is where you tune how Jade behaves.[1]
- If the tooltip is in your way, press Keypad 1 to toggle the overlay. When you hide it, Jade shows a hint telling you to press the key again to reopen it.[1][3]
- Pick a display mode in the config. The display keybind can be held, it can toggle the tooltip on and off, or a lite mode can show extra information while you hold the Show Details key.[3]
- Press Keypad 2 to toggle liquid display, or Keypad 5 to narrate your target if you want it read aloud.[1]
Other settings worth knowing
- Jade can flip the tooltip's location if your main hand is the left one.[3]
- Jade can hide the tooltip while the debug menu is open.[3]
Unverified The keys above are the mod's defaults. Whether this pack changes any of them is not confirmed by the available sources, so check your own controls menu if a key doesn't respond.
How does Jade 🔍 work?
4 parts
Jade doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling of its own. It's an information HUD that shows details about the block or entity you're looking at. So the "mechanics" here are about how the tooltip gets its data, when it shows, and what it's allowed to display in this pack.[1]
Jade can be installed only on the client side, but many features need Jade on the server too. The mod's own examples are item storage, brewing stand fuel amount and bees in a beehive. If one of those readouts is missing, a missing server-side install is the first thing to check.[1]
Showing and hiding the tooltip
The pack sets general.displayMode to TOGGLE, which means the display keybind switches the tooltip on and off. The other mode described by the mod is a hold-to-show behaviour, where the key must be held. By default, Keypad 1 toggles the overlay and Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1][3][4]
general.hintOverlayToggle is enabled in the pack. Jade has a toast message that reads "Press %s again to reopen", where %s is the key. general.hideFromDebug is also true, so the tooltip hides while the debug menu is open.[3][4]
general.displayTooltip is true in the pack. It is the setting that makes Jade collect data and render the tooltip. general.displayBlocks and general.displayEntities are also true.[3][4]
Two more default keys are handy. Keypad 2 toggles the liquid display, and Keypad 5 narrates the target. Keypad 3 and 4 show recipes and uses, but they require JEI.[1]
Which plugins are on
Each type of readout comes from a plugin that can be switched on or off in minecraft.inventory and the other plugin keys. This pack leaves most of them on. That includes inventories, furnace contents, brewing stands, FE energy, fluids, redstone, crop progress, harvest tool and breaking progress.[5]
- Create support is fully on: create.blaze_burner, create.contraption_inv, create.crafting_blueprint, create.exact_block and create.placard are all true.[5]
- Storage Drawers readouts are on: storagedrawers.display.content, storagedrawers.display.stacklimit and storagedrawers.display.status.[5]
- jade.mod_name is on, so you see which mod a block comes from. jade.registry_name and jade.item_mod_name are off.[5]
- Also off in the pack: jade.block_states, minecraft.animal_owner and minecraft.harvest_tool_new_line.[5]
Things Jade ignores
Jade keeps separate blocklists for what it will target, one for blocks and one for entities. In this pack the block list contains minecraft:barrier, and the entity list contains minecraft:area_effect_cloud and minecraft:firework_rocket. You can add more registry ids to the "values" list in values or values. The files say you need to restart the game for changes to apply.[6][7]
Overlay look
The pack uses the jade:dark theme through overlay.color.activeTheme, with overlay.color.alpha at 0.7 and overlay.overlayScale at 1. The tooltip is anchored at the top centre of the screen by default. The jade:create, jade:top and jade:waila themes are also defined in the config.[4]
Which Jade 🔍 config options matter?
4 parts
Jade's settings live in a handful of files in the pack's config/jade folder. Most players only need the main overlay file, the plugin toggles and the block and entity hide lists. Here is exactly how the pack sets them.[4][5][6][7]
How the tooltip behaves
- general.displayMode is set to TOGGLE, so you switch the overlay on and off with a key press. By default that key is Keypad 1, and Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1][4]
- general.fluidMode is NONE, so Jade does not show fluids when you look at them. Keypad 2 toggles liquid display by default.[1][4]
- general.reachDistance is 0, and general.iconMode is TOP.[4]
- Blocks, entities and the tooltip are all enabled through general.displayBlocks, general.displayEntities and general.displayTooltip. Text to speech (general.enableTextToSpeech) is off.[4]
- Health display uses general.maxHealthForRender at 40 and general.maxHeartsPerLine at 10.[4]
Look and position
The active theme is jade:dark (overlay.color.activeTheme) with an alpha of 0.7 (overlay.color.alpha). The overlay scale is 1 (overlay.overlayScale). The overlay sits at position 0.5 horizontally and 1 vertically (overlay.overlayPosX, overlay.overlayPosY), with anchors of 0.5 and 0 (overlay.overlayAnchorX, overlay.overlayAnchorY). The pack also defines the jade:create, jade:top and jade:waila themes if you want to switch.[4]
Plugin toggles
Nearly every plugin in jade.mod_name's file is on, including the Create ones such as create.blaze_burner and the Storage Drawers ones such as storagedrawers.display.content. These are switched off in this pack:[5]
- jade.block_states is false, so block states are not listed.[5]
- jade.item_mod_name is false.[5]
- jade.registry_name is false, so you won't see the registry id line.[5]
- minecraft.animal_owner is false.[5]
- minecraft.harvest_tool_new_line is false.[5]
Hidden targets
The block hide list (values) contains only minecraft:barrier. The entity hide list (values) contains minecraft:area_effect_cloud and minecraft:firework_rocket. Jade will not show a tooltip for those. If you edit either list, restart the game to apply the change.[6][7]

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as jade, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
