What is Jade 🔍?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
Jade is an information HUD mod. It shows you information about whatever block or entity you're looking at. It's a fork of Hwyla/Waila, the classic 'what am I looking at?' tooltip mods, rebuilt for modern Minecraft with a focus on a better user experience and a better API.[1]
This pack ships Jade 15.9.2 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since version 1.3 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the setup.[2]
Jade is for pretty much every player. In a big modded pack you'll constantly run into blocks and machines you don't recognise, and Jade lets you identify them just by looking at them. Compared to Hwyla, Jade brings these improvements:[1]
- A redesigned API.[1]
- More vanilla addons.[1]
- More configuration options.[1]
- Better accessibility, including a key that narrates your target.[1]
Jade can run on the client side only, but many of its features need Jade on the server side as well. Examples are showing item storage, the fuel amount in a brewing stand, and the bees inside a beehive.[1]
Default keys
- Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1 toggles the overlay.[1]
- Keypad 2 toggles the liquid display.[1]
- Keypad 3 shows recipes for what you're looking at (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 4 shows uses for what you're looking at (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 5 narrates your target.[1]
Unverified The sources don't confirm whether this pack changes any of Jade's default keybinds or settings, or whether a given server has Jade installed. Server-dependent features may not show up on every server.
How do you get started with Jade 🔍?
2 parts
Good news: Jade doesn't need any crafting to get going. It's an information HUD that shows information about what you're looking at, so there's no first item to make. You just look at a block or entity and read the tooltip.[1][3]
Jade can be installed on the client side only, but many features need it on the server too. The project page lists item storage, brewing stand fuel amount and bees in a beehive as examples. If some info is missing, especially on a server, that's the first thing to suspect.[1]
Learn the default keys
These are the mod's default keybinds. I can't confirm from my sources whether this pack changes any of them, so check your Controls screen if one doesn't respond.[1]
- Keypad 0: open the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1: toggle the overlay.[1]
- Keypad 2: toggle the liquid display.[1]
- Keypad 3: show recipes (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 4: show uses (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 5: narrate the target.[1]
Tune the tooltip to your liking
Open the configuration screen first. Jade has a global switch to enable or disable the tooltip, and a display mode setting that controls how the tooltip behaves and how the show-details key works.[1][3]
- Hold key mode: you have to hold the overlay key for the tooltip to show.[3]
- Toggle mode: pressing the overlay key switches the tooltip on and off.[3]
- Lite mode: you hold the show-details key to see further information.[3]
There are plenty of other options too. For example, you can show which mod an item is from on its tooltip, hide the tooltip in most GUIs, or show block coordinates and the distance to your target.[3]
Unverified Whether this pack changes any Jade defaults, such as keybinds, display mode or plugin toggles, can't be confirmed from the available sources. The pack also has no quests or recipes for Jade that I can confirm.
How does Jade 🔍 work?
4 parts
Jade doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power or any crafting of its own. It's an information HUD that shows you what you're looking at, so its "mechanics" are about what the tooltip displays and how you control it. That's still handy when you're building automation in a big pack, because you can check storage contents, fluids and energy at a glance.[1][3]
Client side vs. server side
Jade can be installed only on the client side, but many features need it on the server too. The sources list item storage, the brewing stand fuel amount and bees in a beehive as examples.[1]
There's also a game rule that limits how far the server will answer data requests from your tooltip. It sets the maximum deviation in blocks for requesting server-side data. Set it higher to use Jade with freecam, or set it to 0 to disallow extended reach. Jade also has a reach distance option that increases the distance limit to the target.[3]
Tooltip display modes
The display mode controls how the tooltip behaves in the usual situation and how the show-details key works. There are three modes:[3]
- Hold key: the show-overlay key must be held for the tooltip to appear.[3]
- Lite: hold the show-details key to see further information.[3]
- Toggle: pressing the show-overlay key switches the tooltip on and off.[3]
Reading storage, fluids and energy
Jade has plugin options for item, fluid and energy storage. You can make energy info and fluid info appear only while the show-details key is pressed. For items, you can set one amount to show while details are held and another amount when they aren't. A separate option sets the maximum number of items that still get their names shown instead of just icons.[3]
Fluid tanks and energy storage are drawn as progress bars, and an option adds a text background to them so they're easier to read. Another option shows fluids only when there is no other target, which is useful when you're looking through a tank at something else.[3]
Default keys
- Keypad 0: open the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1: toggle the overlay.[1]
- Keypad 2: toggle liquid display.[1]
- Keypad 3: show recipes (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 4: show uses (requires JEI).[1]
- Keypad 5: narrate the target.[1]
The narrator is part of Jade's accessibility features. An accessibility plugin option enables displaying and narrating more details, and you can then fine-tune them in the plugin settings.[1][3]
Unverified The pack has no Jade config files in the sources, so the actual values this pack uses for these options (display mode, item amounts, reach distance and so on) are unverified. Check the in-game configuration screen for the real settings.
Which Jade 🔍 config options matter?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide
Jade keeps almost all of its settings in an in-game screen rather than a config file you edit by hand, so you tune it while you play. Press Keypad 0 to open the configuration screen and browse the options there.[1]
Jade is highly configurable compared to Hwyla, which is one of its headline differences, so it is worth a minute in that screen to turn off the readouts you never look at and keep the ones you do.[1]
Default keys worth knowing
- Keypad 0 opens the configuration screen.[1]
- Keypad 1 toggles the overlay on and off.[1]
- Keypad 2 toggles the liquid display, so you can see fluids you are looking at.[1]
- Keypad 3 shows recipes for the thing you are looking at, and Keypad 4 shows its uses. Both need JEI installed.[1]
- Keypad 5 narrates the target for accessibility.[1]
Unverified This pack does not ship a config file for Jade in the sources available here, so there is nothing to confirm about values the pack changed from the mod defaults. Treat the in-game configuration screen as the place where your settings live, and assume defaults until you change them yourself.
What changed in Jade 🔍 between versions?
2 parts

- 26.1.1: added a loot table provider and a display of the fed status for animals. It also fixed a duplicate plugin class error when several mods are bundled in a single JAR, and fixed an option list entry tooltip overriding the server feature tooltip.[9]
Earlier 26.0.x fixes
- 26.0.10: fixed containers showing the wrong item amount.[10]
- 26.0.9: fixed the picked block not using the NeoForge extension.[10]

- 26.0.5: fixed GUI item rendering and GUI narration.[10]
- 26.0.4: the notes include a fluid rendering fix, hiding the furnace arrow when the furnace inventory is empty, a new max_position_deviation game rule, and arrow keys for adjusting position in the settings screen. The changelog we have is cut off, so this is only part of that release.[10]
