What is Sophisticated Storage In Motion?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.19 guide
Sophisticated Storage In Motion is included in this pack at version 0.1.2, built for Minecraft 1.21.1 (file sophisticatedstorageinmotion-1.21.1-0.1.2.15.jar). It has been in the pack since version 2.16 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition. If you're updating from an older version of the pack, it should already be in your instance.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm from the available sources what the mod adds or how it plays. There is no in-jar guidebook or platform description to draw on, so I won't guess at its features, items or recipes.
Unverified I also couldn't confirm where the mod fits in this pack's progression. No quests involving it turned up, and it isn't on the ATM Star quest path, so you won't be nudged toward it by the questbook.
How do you get started with Sophisticated Storage In Motion?
3 parts
Sophisticated Storage In Motion puts your storage on the move. In this pack it adds a Storage Boat and a Storage Minecart, and the recipes tie both to Sophisticated Storage containers such as chests, barrels and shulker boxes.[2]
Step 1: Make a storage boat
The easiest first build is a storage boat. The pack has a boat recipe for every wood type, including bamboo (as a raft) and pale oak. Each wood also has a second "from vanilla" recipe. Oak is a good place to start, and the other woods follow the same pattern.[2]
Crafting Shapeless
- Oak Chest Boat

This is a shapeless crafting recipe, and the other wood types have matching versions.
Moving Storage From Storage (sophisticatedstorageinmotion)
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:oak_storage_boat
The second oak recipe uses the mod's own recipe type for making a boat from a storage block.
Step 2: Make a storage minecart
If you're building rail lines, the minecart has its own recipe. Its id says it turns a chest minecart into a storage minecart.[2]

- Chest Minecart
- Redstone Torch
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:chest_minecart_to_storage_minecart
Step 3: Upgrade the container
Once you have a storage boat, you can upgrade the container it carries. The pack has a recipe for each step: chest to copper chest, chest to iron chest, copper to iron, iron to gold, gold to diamond, and diamond to netherite. Barrels and shulker boxes get the same kind of ladder. There are also limited barrel upgrades to copper and iron versions.[2]
Moving Storage Tier Upgrade Shaped Recipe (sophisticatedstorageinmotion)
8 × any copper ingot
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:storage_boat_with_chest_to_copper_chest
This is the first rung of the chest upgrade ladder, and it uses the mod's shaped tier upgrade recipe type.
How does Sophisticated Storage In Motion work?
3 parts
Sophisticated Storage In Motion is a small add-on that puts Sophisticated Storage containers onto vehicles. The pack's recipe data shows the Storage Boat and the Storage Minecart. Everything below comes from those recipes, and the recipe list I have is only partly shown.[2]
Storage boats
Storage boat recipes exist for acacia, birch, cherry, dark oak, jungle, mangrove, oak, pale oak and spruce, plus a bamboo raft. Every wood has a direct storage boat recipe, which uses a recipe type added by this mod. Every wood also has a shapeless "from vanilla" recipe that gives you a Sophisticated Storage chest and a boat. Here is oak as an example of both.[2]
Moving Storage From Storage (sophisticatedstorageinmotion)
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:oak_storage_boat
The direct storage boat recipe, using the mod's own recipe type.
Crafting Shapeless
- Oak Chest Boat
- Redstone Torch
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:oak_storage_boat_from_vanilla
The shapeless "from vanilla" recipe for the same wood.
The recipe results for the storage boat show templated names like "%s Boat with %s" instead of fixed ones, so the displayed name is filled in from the boat and the storage it carries.[2]
Storage minecarts
The Storage Minecart has a shapeless conversion recipe that starts from a chest minecart.[2]
Crafting Shapeless
- Chest Minecart
- Redstone Torch
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:chest_minecart_to_storage_minecart
Shapeless conversion from a chest minecart to a storage minecart.
Upgrading the storage tier on a boat
You don't need to build a new boat to move up a storage tier. The pack has tier-upgrade recipes for boats that carry a chest or a barrel. A boat with a chest can become one with an iron or copper chest, and a boat with a barrel can become one with an iron or copper barrel. These use a dedicated recipe type from this mod.[2]
Moving Storage Tier Upgrade Shaped Recipe (sophisticatedstorageinmotion)
8 × any iron ingot
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:storage_boat_with_chest_to_iron_chest
The copper chest, iron barrel and copper barrel upgrades have their own recipes with the same naming pattern.
Unverified Storage capacity, upgrade support and hopper or pipe automation for these vehicles are not shown in the sources here. The pack has no config files for this mod, and no readable in-game descriptions were found, so check them in-game before relying on them.
How do you progress through Sophisticated Storage In Motion?
3 parts
Unverified The sources here show no quests involving this mod, so there is no quest-guided path to follow. The tier order below comes only from the in-pack recipes.
Sophisticated Storage In Motion puts your Sophisticated Storage containers on boats and minecarts. Progression here is about upgrading the storage on a boat through the material tiers, using crafting recipes that output a storage boat.[2]
Getting started
The entry points are a Storage Boat and a Storage Minecart. The pack has a recipe that turns a chest minecart into a storage minecart, and storage boat recipes for woods such as oak, spruce, birch, cherry and mangrove, plus a bamboo raft.[2]
Crafting Shapeless
- Chest Minecart
- Redstone Torch
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:chest_minecart_to_storage_minecart
This recipe gives you a storage minecart and a chest.
Crafting Shapeless
- Oak Chest Boat
- Redstone Torch
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:oak_storage_boat_from_vanilla
The oak version. Other woods have matching recipes.
The tier ladder
Once you have a storage boat, you upgrade its container in the crafting grid. A plain chest can go to a Copper Chest or jump straight to an Iron Chest. From there the chain continues up to netherite.[2]
- Start with a plain chest on a boat, then upgrade it to copper or skip ahead to iron.[2]
- Move from copper to Iron Chest.[2]
- Move from iron to Gold Chest.[2]
- Move from gold to Diamond Chest.[2]
- Finish with the jump from diamond to Netherite Chest.[2]

- any netherite ingot
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:storage_boat_with_diamond_chest_to_netherite_chest
The netherite step is a shapeless recipe, while the earlier upgrades shown here are shaped.
Barrels, limited barrels and shulker boxes
Barrels on boats follow the same ladder as chests: barrel to copper or iron, copper to iron, iron to gold, gold to diamond, and diamond to netherite.[2]
Limited barrels have upgrade recipes for each of their four sizes, I to IV. The recipes shown include limited barrel to limited copper or limited iron, copper to iron, gold to diamond, and diamond to netherite.[2]
Shulker boxes on boats have upgrade recipes for copper to iron, iron to gold, gold to diamond and diamond to netherite.[2]

How does Sophisticated Storage In Motion work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, the recipe dump shows Sophisticated Storage In Motion connecting with two things: the Sophisticated Storage containers and the vanilla boats and minecarts. Every recipe listed for it produces a storage boat or storage minecart, or a Sophisticated Storage container. The dump lists no ingredients for them, so the recipe blocks below are the place to check what each one needs.[2]
Vanilla boats and minecarts
Several shapeless crafting recipes have "from vanilla" in their ids. They produce a Storage Boat together with a Chest. They exist for acacia, birch, cherry, dark oak, jungle, mangrove, oak, pale oak and spruce, plus a bamboo raft version. A matching minecart recipe produces a Storage Minecart together with a chest.[2]
Crafting Shapeless
- Oak Chest Boat
- Redstone Torch
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:oak_storage_boat_from_vanilla
One of the vanilla boat recipes. The other wood types have their own recipes with the same kind of result.
Crafting Shapeless
- Chest Minecart
- Redstone Torch
Recipe id: sophisticatedstorageinmotion:chest_minecart_to_storage_minecart
The minecart version of the same idea.
Upgrading containers on boats and minecarts
The pack also has tier upgrade recipes that use the mod's own recipe types. Going by their ids, they upgrade the container on a storage boat or storage minecart from one Sophisticated Storage tier to the next. The steps run from a plain chest, barrel or shulker box to copper or iron, then iron to gold, gold to diamond and diamond to netherite.[2]
- Chests and barrels: boat recipes go from a plain version to Copper Chest or Iron Chest (and the barrel equivalents), and then step up through gold, diamond and netherite.[2]
- Shulker boxes: boat recipes lead to Copper Shulker Box, Iron Shulker Box, Gold Shulker Box, Diamond Shulker Box and Netherite Shulker Box.[2]
- Limited barrels: boats get upgrade recipes for each size from I to IV, for example Limited Iron Barrel 1 up to Limited Gold Barrel 1.[2]
- Minecarts: storage minecarts get the same kind of upgrades, such as barrel to Copper Barrel and gold barrel to Diamond Barrel.[2]
The diamond to netherite steps use a shapeless upgrade recipe type. The earlier steps in the dump use the shaped version.[2]
