Sophisticated Storage is a mod in All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta, where it is version 1.5.121. Storage mod with multiple tiers and functional upgrades (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Sophisticated Storage?

Sophisticated Storage is part of the pack, and this guide covers version 1.5.112. The pack ships it as the file sophisticatedstorage-26.1.2-1.5.112.2123.jar, and it was already included in 0.8.0-beta or an earlier release.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what the mod's items do, how its recipes work, or whether the pack changes any of its configs or recipes. I haven't written anything about those here. No quests or ATM Star path entries were found for this mod, so it isn't confirmed to have a place in the pack's progression.

How do you get started with Sophisticated Storage?

5 parts

Sophisticated Storage gives you chests and barrels that you can upgrade, link together and pipe into. Here is a sensible build order, with the real in-pack recipes shown in the recipe blocks. The order itself is my suggestion, not something the pack enforces.[2][3]

Your first storage block

Start with a Chest or a Barrel. Each has a separate recipe per wood type, and the recipes listed cover acacia, bamboo, birch, cherry, crimson and dark oak, so pick the wood you like. Here is the acacia version of each.[2]

Tier upgrades

This pack has tier upgrades that jump straight from basic to copper, iron, gold, diamond or netherite. There are also step-by-step ones such as Copper to Iron Tier Upgrade and Diamond to Netherite Tier Upgrade. Here is the first step, Basic to Copper Tier Upgrade.[2]

Once you have several storages, build a Storage Controller. It lets you deposit and pipe items to and from a connected multiblock of storages. Storage connectors, such as the Bamboo Storage Connector and the other wood versions, bridge gaps between storage blocks in a multiblock.[2][3]

How does Sophisticated Storage work?

8 parts

Sophisticated Storage is mostly about two things: building bigger storage out of several blocks, and adding upgrades to them so they do work for you. The sources here explain the multiblock pieces, the item piping blocks and the upgrades, so that is what this section covers.[3]

Storage multiblocks

A controller lets you deposit items into, and pipe items to and from, a connected multiblock of storages. The storages themselves are blocks like the Chest and the Barrel.[2][3]

If your storages don't touch, a storage connector bridges the gaps between storage blocks in the multiblock. Connectors come in wood variants such as Acacia Storage Connector, Bamboo Storage Connector and Birch Storage Connector. A storage link connects a separate multiblock to the controller, and you use the Storage Tool to link it.[2][3]

Piping items in and out

Three blocks decide how pipes talk to a multiblock once they are placed inside it. Storage Input lets you pipe items in, and its tooltip says it is optimized for low tps impact. Storage Output lets you pipe items out. Storage I/O does both.[2][3]

The pack has shapeless crafting recipes that convert between these three. Each recipe id is named after the block it makes and the block it starts from.[2]

Capacity: tiers, stack upgrades and limited barrels

The Basic Tier Upgrade upgrades vanilla inventories to their sophisticated version. The pack also has direct tier upgrades from basic to copper, iron, gold, diamond and netherite, for example Basic to Copper Tier Upgrade and Basic to Netherite Tier Upgrade.[2][3]

Stack upgrades multiply how many stacks fit in a slot. The tiers multiply by 2, 3 (the tier 1 plus version), 4, 8, 16 and 32. The omega tier multiplies by the maximum value, ×33,554,431.[3]

Stack downgrades work the other way and divide the number of stacks per slot by 8, 16 or 32, depending on the tier.[3]

The Limited Barrel line comes in four sizes, from Limited Barrel 1 up to Limited Barrel 4. Each one shows its slot count and its base stack size multiplier in its tooltip.[2][3]

Upgrades that automate

Many upgrades give the storage its own upgrade tab, and some work on items moving in and out of it. These are the ones that matter for automation.[3]

  • Hopper upgrade: pulls items from the block on top and/or pushes them to the block below. The advanced version moves items between the storage and adjacent blocks, is faster, and has configurable input and output from any side.[3]
  • Filter upgrade: filters items piped in and/or out of the storage. The advanced version has more filtering options.[3]
  • Pickup and magnet upgrades: the pickup upgrade makes the storage pick up items, and the magnet upgrade pulls items into the storage from a range. The advanced versions add more filtering options, and the advanced magnet also has a greater range.[3]
  • Void upgrade: voids the items you select in its filter. The advanced version has more filtering options.[3]
  • Feeding upgrade: feeds the player with food from the storage's inventory. The advanced version has more options for when food gets fed.[3]
  • Alchemy Upgrade: automatically uses potions, food with effects, or milk buckets. The advanced version has additional effect filtering options.[2][3]
  • Compacting and compression upgrades: the compacting upgrade compacts items into their compressed variants, but only with 2x2 recipes. The advanced version handles both 2x2 and 3x3 recipes with more filtering options. The compression upgrade automatically compresses and decompresses items.[3]

Smelting upgrades

The smelting, blasting and smoking upgrades each put their own tab on the storage. The Blasting Upgrade handles ores and metal stuff, and the smoking upgrade handles food. The auto versions, like Auto-blasting Upgrade and Auto-smoking Upgrade, also pull and push items automatically.[2][3]

In this pack the auto-blasting and auto-smoking upgrades each have a recipe that starts from the auto-smelting upgrade.[2]

Fluids and experience

The pump upgrade pumps fluids between the Tank upgrade and adjacent blocks. The advanced pump also works with fluid containers in your hand and fluid blocks in the world, and lets you filter which fluids are pumped. The XP pump upgrade pumps experience between the Tank upgrade and the player.[3]

Crafting-station upgrades and infinity

Some upgrades put a whole workstation in a tab: a crafting table, a stonecutter, a saw and several Chipped workbenches. Two infinity upgrades make all items in the storage infinite. With the normal one, only admins can set infinite items and break the storage. The survival version lets all players do both.[3]

Tools and config notes

The Storage Tool links, locks, and hides counts, tiers, locks and overlays on storages. The paintbrush applies decoration to storage blocks in the world, and you set which decoration it applies in the decoration table. The packing tape tooltips show it as disabled when the config is set to drop all storages as packed.[3]

The mod's config text describes three options: additional decompressible items, disallowed items, and the maximum upgrades per storage. The max-upgrades option uses a format like chest|stack_upgrades|2, which is only the format example from the tooltip, not a value this pack uses.[3]

Unverified No config files for this mod are in the sources here, so the actual values for disallowed items, decompressible items and upgrade limits in this pack are not shown.

How do you progress through Sophisticated Storage?

4 parts

Sophisticated Storage is built around upgrading your storage blocks through tiers. You craft a Chest or Barrel, then use tier upgrade items to move it up. The upgrade items in this pack name the tiers Basic, Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond and Netherite.[2]

Where to start

The chest and the barrel each have their own recipe for wood types such as oak, birch, cherry, bamboo and crimson. There is also a shapeless recipe that turns a vanilla chest into an oak chest, so you can convert chests you already have.[2]

The tier upgrade items

The pack has an upgrade item for each jump. Basic Tier Upgrade is the Basic one. From a basic block you have Basic to Copper Tier Upgrade, Basic to Iron Tier Upgrade, Basic to Gold Tier Upgrade, Basic to Diamond Tier Upgrade and Basic to Netherite Tier Upgrade.[2]

If you have already upgraded a block, you do not have to start over. Each tier has upgrades that skip ahead from where you are, as listed below.[2]

Every netherite upgrade is a shapeless recipe, while the other tier upgrades are shaped, so their layout matters. Basic to Iron has two recipes in the pack.[2]

Other things you can craft

Besides the tiers, the pack has recipes for the Storage Controller and the Decoration Table. The Limited Barrel line runs from Limited Barrel 1 up to Limited Barrel 4, each with its own recipe per wood type.[2]

Functional upgrades are separate from the tier upgrades. They include the Crafting Upgrade, Hopper Upgrade, Filter Upgrade, Feeding upgrade, Compacting Upgrade, Compression Upgrade, Jukebox Upgrade and Alchemy Upgrade. The Blasting Upgrade has a recipe made from a smelting upgrade, and the Auto-blasting Upgrade and Auto-smoking Upgrade have recipes made from an auto-smelting upgrade.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter covering this mod, so there is no quest-guided order to follow. The order above comes only from the tier names on the upgrade items.

How does Sophisticated Storage work with other mods?

2 parts

The cross-mod connections I can confirm for Sophisticated Storage in this pack all come from recipes. They live in a companion namespace, sophisticatedstorageinmotion, and tie your storage blocks to boats and minecarts.[2]

Storage boats and minecarts

The companion namespace has Storage Boat and Storage Minecart as crafting results. There are boat recipes for acacia, bamboo (a raft), birch, cherry, dark oak, jungle, mangrove, oak, pale oak and spruce, each with an id ending in from_vanilla. There is also one minecart recipe, chest_minecart_to_storage_minecart, that gives you a storage minecart.[2]

Upgrading the container without losing the vehicle

The pack has tier-upgrade recipes for storage boats and storage minecarts, so you can move up a container tier without rebuilding the vehicle. On boats the steps run from plain to copper or iron, copper to iron, iron to gold, gold to diamond, and diamond to netherite. They cover chests, barrels and shulker boxes, and the boat versions also cover the Limited Barrel I to IV variants.[2]

Most of these upgrades use a shaped tier-upgrade recipe type from the companion namespace. The diamond to netherite step uses a shapeless version of the same recipe type instead.[2]

Tip: The recipe data I worked from does not list ingredients for these recipes, so check the recipe blocks above for what each one needs. The upgraded results include, for example, the Iron Chest and the Netherite Barrel.[2]
