What is Productive Metalworks?

Productive Metalworks is included in this pack at version 26.1.2-1.17.1. It comes with its own in-game guide book, and that book is the best place to learn how the mod works here.[1][2]

The guide opens with an introduction category and then splits into categories for casting, fluids and the foundry. There is also a separate category for Silent Gear metalworking.[3][4][5][6][7]

Inside those categories you will find individual pages on melting, alloying, heat, casting, casts, upgrades, size limits and hazards, plus a Silent Gear page. The guide lists these topics in the order you would meet them, so reading it top to bottom is a good way to get started.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]

Unverified The sources here show no quests in this pack that involve the mod, and they do not place it on the ATM Star path, so there is no quest chapter or group to point you to. No platform description of the mod was available either, so the in-game guide is the place to check how each system works.

How do you get started with Productive Metalworks?

2 parts

Productive Metalworks is about melting metal and casting it into shapes. The sources I have for this pack don't include the text of the mod's guide pages, only their titles. So I can't give you a confirmed step-by-step order or explain why each step comes first. What I can confirm is which core items you can craft, and I've put their in-pack recipes below.[17]

The first items to look at

Fire Clay has its own crafting recipe in the pack, so it's a good first thing to make and check out.[17]

Next up are the Casting Table, the Casting Basin and the Foundry Tap. Their in-pack recipes are shown below, and the in-game guide has a casting section to read up on.[4][17]

The Foundry parts

The mod also has Foundry parts: a controller, tank, window, drain and capacitor, plus fire bricks. Each comes in many colors, and the colored versions have dye-based crafting recipes in the pack. The black controller also has a direct crafting recipe, shown below.[17]

The Foundry Controller accepts upgrades. One upgrade speeds up melting and alloying, and you can install several. A second, stronger version of it is described as twice as good as the other one. A third upgrade disables fluid alloying in the Foundry.[18]

Tip: The mod ships its own in-game guide, with categories for casting, fluids and the Foundry. Read it alongside this page.[3][4][5][6]

Unverified The exact build order, the Foundry's structure and size limits, the heat and fuel requirements, and how to get the guide book are not confirmed by the sources available for this section. No quests in this pack involve the mod.

How does Productive Metalworks work?

2 parts

The sources I have for Productive Metalworks in this pack are thin, so this section is short. I can confirm how the Foundry Controller upgrades behave and which Foundry and casting blocks exist. I'm leaving out sizes, rates and automation details because the sources here don't state them.[17][18]

Foundry Controller upgrades

The Foundry Controller accepts upgrades, and the mod's own tooltips describe a few. A time upgrade speeds up melting and alloying, and multiple upgrades can be installed. A second time upgrade is described as twice as good as the other one.[18]

There is also a stability upgrade, which disables fluid alloying in the Foundry.[18]

Tip: If your Foundry feels slow, the time upgrades are the ones to look at, since they speed up both melting and alloying.[18]

Foundry blocks and casting blocks

The Foundry is built from colour-variant parts. The black, blue and brown variants each have their own controller, tank, window, drain and capacitor, plus matching fire bricks. For example, there is the Black Foundry Controller, the Black Foundry Tank, the Black Foundry Window, the Black Foundry Drain and the Black Foundry Capacitor.[17]

The pack also has dye-based crafting recipes for the coloured fire bricks, controllers, tanks, windows, drains and capacitors. The black controller, for instance, has both a base recipe and a dye recipe.[17]

For casting, the mod adds the Casting Table and the Casting Basin. Both have shaped crafting recipes in the pack.[17]

How do you progress through Productive Metalworks?

3 parts

The sources I have for this pack are thin, so I can't give you a confirmed tier-by-tier path for Productive Metalworks. I'd rather say that than invent tier names or numbers. What I can show you is the set of core crafting recipes the pack confirms.[17]

Core building pieces

The pack has crafting recipes for Fire Clay, Casting Table, Casting Basin, Foundry Tap and Liquid Heating Coil. Here are the exact in-pack recipes.[17]

Colour variants of the foundry parts

Foundry parts come in colour variants, such as Black, Blue and Brown versions of the fire bricks, controller, tank, drain, window and capacitor. The coloured versions I can see have dye-based recipes. The Black pieces also have direct crafting recipes in several cases, for example the Black Foundry Controller.[17]

Where to read more in game

The mod's in-game guide has pages titled for heat, foundry size, melting, casting, casts, alloying, upgrades and hazards. The text of those pages is not in the sources here, so I can't tell you what each page says about unlock order or what changes as you upgrade. Open the guide in game for those details.[8][9][10][11][12][13][15][16]

How does Productive Metalworks work with other mods?

1 part

The one confirmed link to another mod in this pack is small but handy. Melting honeycomb in the Productive Metalworks setup gives you Honey alongside this mod's own wax fluid.[17]

Honeycomb melting

There is a melting recipe for honeycomb and another for the honeycomb block. Each one produces Honey and Molten Wax together, so a single melt gets you both outputs.[17]

Both use the mod's own item melting recipe type, and both are listed as Productive Metalworks recipes rather than ones added by another mod.[17]
