What is Extreme sound muffler?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
Extreme Sound Muffler is a client-side quality-of-life mod that lets you turn down or silence individual sounds in the game. Instead of dropping your master volume and losing everything, you pick the exact sound that is bothering you and muffle just that one.[1]
This pack ships version 3.48.3, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21. It has been part of the pack for a long time, included since version 0.55 or earlier.[2]
It is client-side only, so installing it on a server does nothing. That also means everything you configure is yours alone and will not affect anyone else you play with.[1]
Who it is for
If you are running a big automated base, this is the mod that saves your ears. Anything that makes a repeated noise you would rather not hear can be muffled selectively, with a volume slider so you can dial a sound down instead of removing it entirely.[1]
It also has Anchors, which are ranged mufflers. You place an Anchor at a position and give it a name and a range, then muffle sounds only inside that area. That way your noisy mob farm stays quiet where it sits, but the same sounds still play everywhere else in the world.[1]
Where it fits in progression
There is no progression to speak of here. There are no recipes, no items to unlock and no quests tied to this mod in the pack, and it is not part of the ATM Star path. It is available from the moment you load in, and you will get the most out of it once you start building machines and farms that make noise on a loop.[1][2]
To open it, click the button in your inventory screen or bind a key for it. If the inventory button annoys you, you can drag it somewhere else by holding right-click on it, or disable it in the config entirely.[1]
How do you get started with Extreme sound muffler?
4 parts
Good news: there's nothing to craft to get going. Extreme sound muffler is a client-side mod that lets you muffle sounds selectively, so your first steps happen in its screen, not at a crafting table.[1]
Because it's client-side only, installing it on a server does nothing. Each player sets up their own muffling.[1]
Your first muffle
- Open the muffler screen by clicking the button in your inventory, or assign a key to open it.[1]
- Click the button next to the sound you want to muffle.[1]
- Optional: drag the slider to set that sound's volume instead of silencing it fully.[1]
- Optional: press the play button to check it's the sound you want to muffle.[1]
Finding the right sound
The screen has buttons to switch between lists: one shows all sounds, one shows only the sounds you've muffled, and one shows recent sounds. That recent list is handy: trigger the noise that's bugging you, then open the screen and find it near the top.[3]
There are also buttons to delete your muffled sounds or your recent sounds, and a toggle to switch between local and global muffled sounds.[3]
Anchors for small areas
Anchors are ranged mufflers. They're for when you only want to quiet a sound in a small area, like around a noisy machine room.[1]
- Open the muffler screen and select one of the 10 numbered buttons.[1]
- Press the marker-like button on the right panel to set the Anchor position. You can press it again any time to move the Anchor.[1]
- Optional: press the edit Anchor button next to the marker to set the Anchor's name and range.[1]
- Muffle the sounds you want for that Anchor.[1]
Tweaking the setup
If you don't like the inventory button where it is, hold right mouse button over it and drag it somewhere else. It can also be disabled in the config.[1]
The mod's project page lists more options: moving the muffle and play buttons to the left or right of the screen, disabling Anchors, blacklisting sounds so they don't show in the list, and choosing the default muffle volume. Those are the mod's general options; the sources don't show whether this pack changes any of them.[1]
Unverified No in-pack recipes or quests for this mod are confirmed, so there are no items to craft or quests to complete as a first step.
How does Extreme sound muffler work?
5 parts
Extreme Sound Muffler works differently from most mods in the pack. It adds no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item handling. It is a client-side mod that lets you muffle sounds selectively, and the whole system lives in one screen.[1]
Muffling a sound
- Click the button in your inventory, or assign a key, to open the screen.[1]
- Click the button next to the sound you want to muffle.[1]
- Optional: drag the slider to set the volume of that sound.[1]
- Optional: press the play button to check it is the sound you want to muffle.[1]
The sound lists
The main screen has buttons that switch between the all sounds, recent sounds and muffled sounds lists. The recent list is handy when a noise is annoying you right now and you don't know its name. Play the noise, open the screen and look for it there.[3]
There are also buttons to delete your muffled sounds and to delete your recent sounds. Another button switches between local and global muffled sounds.[3]
Anchors: muffling in a small area
Anchors are ranged mufflers. Use one when you want to muffle a sound on a small area.[1]
- Open the muffler screen.[1]
- Select one of the 10 numbered buttons.[1]
- Press the marker-like button on the right panel to set the Anchor position.[1]
- Optional: press the edit Anchor button next to the marker to set the Anchor's name and range.[1]
- Muffle the sounds you want for that Anchor.[1]
You can move an Anchor whenever you like by pressing the marker button again.[1]
The inventory button
If you don't like the muffler button in your inventory, the mod can disable it in its config. To move it, hold right mouse button over the button and drag it where you want.[1]
What you can configure
The mod describes most things as configurable. These are the options it lists:[1]
- Put the muffle and play buttons on the left or right of the screen.[1]
- Disable Anchors.[1]
- Blacklist sounds so they don't appear in the muffler screen.[1]
- Choose the default muffle volume.[1]
- Disable the inventory button.[1]
- Enable a dark mode for the screen.[1]
Unverified The pack ships no config file for this mod, so the pack's actual settings (default muffle volume, blacklisted sounds, and so on) could not be confirmed from the sources here.
Which Extreme sound muffler config options matter?
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.11 guide
Extreme Sound Muffler is a client-side mod, so its settings live in your own config file rather than on the server. Installing it on a server does nothing at all, which means every option here is yours alone to tweak and nothing you change affects other players.[1]
The mod ships separate config files for Forge and Fabric, and most of the interesting behaviour is adjustable from there. These are the options players usually end up hunting for.[1]
- Dark mode for the ESM screen, which is off until you turn it on in the config.[1]
- The inventory button, which you can disable entirely if you would rather not see the muffler icon on your inventory screen.[1]
- Button placement, letting you move the muffle and play buttons to the left or right side of the screen for easier reading.[1]
- Anchors, the ranged mufflers, which can be disabled if you only ever want global muffling.[1]
- A sound blacklist, so noisy entries you never want to touch stop cluttering the ESM screen.[1]
- The default muffle volume applied when you mute a new sound.[1]
Unverified The pack does not ship a config file for this mod in the sources available here, so the exact default values (including the default muffle volume and whether dark mode, anchors or the inventory button start enabled) could not be confirmed. Open the config in-game or in your instance folder to see what you are actually running.
What changed in Extreme sound muffler between versions?
4 parts
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Extreme sound muffler 4.02-ALPHA, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.0.1 or earlier. No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so the notes below come from the mod's own changelogs.[4]
4.02-ALPHA (the version in this pack)
- Fixed anchors overriding Minecraft's sounds settings.[5]
4.0-ALPHA
This was the big rework, and it is where most of what you see in the pack today comes from.[6]
- A new GUI.[6]
- You can search by blocks to muffle their sounds. The author notes this is just for convenience, since many blocks share sounds.[6]
- Muffling full mods is now an option in the GUI instead of only a config setting.[6]
- You can optionally keep a global list of muffled sounds in the .minecraft folder, shared between all instances. This doesn't work for anchors as you'd expect.[6]
- Anchors are no longer limited to 10. You can have as many as you want, though too many could be laggy.[6]
- Anchors have an option to muffle everything, for when you need a pocket of silence.[6]
3.58.1
- Added the zh-cn translation.[7]
3.58
- Anchors are automatically disabled when CustomSkinLoader is present, because that mod breaks reading and writing their data.[8]
