What is Extreme sound muffler?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Extreme Sound Muffler is a client-side mod that lets you muffle sounds selectively. If a noise in the pack keeps getting on your nerves, you can turn it down or silence it without touching anything else in your audio.[1]
This pack ships version 3.56, the NeoForge build for 1.21. It has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[2]
Who it's for
It's for anyone who wants a calmer game, whether that's a noisy machine hum, a repetitive ambient sound or anything else you'd rather not hear. It only changes what you hear on your own client. Installing it on a server does nothing, so you don't need to ask a server admin to set it up.[1]
How to use it
- Click the button in your inventory, or assign a key, to open the muffler screen.[1]
- Click the button next to the sound you want to muffle.[1]
- Optionally, drag the slider to set that sound's volume instead of silencing it fully.[1]
- Optionally, press the play button to check it's the sound you mean to muffle.[1]
Anchors
Anchors are ranged mufflers. They're handy when you only want to quiet a sound in a small area. Open the muffler screen and select one of the 10 numbered buttons. Then press the marker-style button on the right panel to set the Anchor's position. You can also use the edit button next to the marker to set a name and a range. You can move the Anchor whenever you like by pressing the marker button again.[1]
Configuration
Most of the mod is configurable. You can move the muffle and play buttons to the left or right side of the screen, disable Anchors, blacklist sounds so they don't appear in the screen, and choose the default muffle volume. You can also disable the inventory button, or hold right mouse button over it and drag it somewhere else. There's also a dark mode you can switch on in the configs.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests in this pack involving this mod, or any place for it on the ATM Star path. They also don't show whether the pack changes any of the mod's default config values.
How do you get started with Extreme sound muffler?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
Good news: there's nothing to craft to get going. Extreme sound muffler is a client-side mod that lets you muffle sounds selectively, so your first steps happen in its screen, not at a crafting table.[1]
Because it's client-side only, installing it on a server does nothing. Each player sets up their own muffling.[1]
Your first muffle
- Open the muffler screen by clicking the button in your inventory, or assign a key to open it.[1]
- Click the button next to the sound you want to muffle.[1]
- Optional: drag the slider to set that sound's volume instead of silencing it fully.[1]
- Optional: press the play button to check it's the sound you want to muffle.[1]
Finding the right sound
The screen has buttons to switch between lists: one shows all sounds, one shows only the sounds you've muffled, and one shows recent sounds. That recent list is handy: trigger the noise that's bugging you, then open the screen and find it near the top.[3]
There are also buttons to delete your muffled sounds or your recent sounds, and a toggle to switch between local and global muffled sounds.[3]
Anchors for small areas
Anchors are ranged mufflers. They're for when you only want to quiet a sound in a small area, like around a noisy machine room.[1]
- Open the muffler screen and select one of the 10 numbered buttons.[1]
- Press the marker-like button on the right panel to set the Anchor position. You can press it again any time to move the Anchor.[1]
- Optional: press the edit Anchor button next to the marker to set the Anchor's name and range.[1]
- Muffle the sounds you want for that Anchor.[1]
Tweaking the setup
If you don't like the inventory button where it is, hold right mouse button over it and drag it somewhere else. It can also be disabled in the config.[1]
The mod's project page lists more options: moving the muffle and play buttons to the left or right of the screen, disabling Anchors, blacklisting sounds so they don't show in the list, and choosing the default muffle volume. Those are the mod's general options; the sources don't show whether this pack changes any of them.[1]
Unverified No in-pack recipes or quests for this mod are confirmed, so there are no items to craft or quests to complete as a first step.
How does Extreme sound muffler work?
4 parts
Extreme sound muffler is a different kind of mod from the machine mods you may be used to. It is a client side mod that lets you muffle sounds selectively. It adds no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation, so everything in this section is about the muffler screen on your own game.[1]
Muffling a sound
You open the muffler screen either with the button in your inventory or with a key you assign yourself. The key is listed in the controls as "Open sound muffler screen".[1][4]
- Open the muffler screen with the inventory button or your assigned key.[1]
- Click the button next to the sound you want to muffle.[1]
- Optional: drag the slider to set the volume of that sound.[1]
- Optional: press the play button to check it is the sound you want to muffle.[1]
Sound lists and buttons
The screen has buttons that switch between three lists: all sounds, muffled sounds and recent sounds. There are also buttons to delete the muffled sounds or the recent sounds list.[4]
Another button switches between global muffled sounds and local muffled sounds. The sources here only give the button tooltips, so they do not explain exactly how the two modes differ.[4]
Anchors
Anchors are ranged mufflers, for when you want to muffle a sound in a small area only. You set them up from the same screen.[1]
- Open the muffler screen and select one of the 10 numbered buttons.[1]
- Press the marker like button on the right panel to set the Anchor position.[1]
- Optional: press the edit Anchor button next to the marker to set the Anchor's name and range.[1]
- Muffle the sounds you want for that Anchor.[1]
You can move an Anchor whenever you like by pressing the marker button again.[1]
The inventory button
If you want to move the muffler button in your inventory, hold the right mouse button over it and drag it where you like. The mod page also says the button can be disabled in the config.[1]
Unverified The mod page says you can disable Anchors, blacklist sounds from the muffler screen, choose the default muffle volume, put the muffle and play buttons on the left or right, and enable dark mode, all in the config. The sources here include no config file for this mod in the pack, so the pack's actual settings for these options are not shown. Check the mod's config file in your game folder.
What changed in Extreme sound muffler between versions?
1 part
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Extreme sound muffler version 4.04, the NeoForge build. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so it isn't a new addition.[5]
Version 4.04
This is the version you get in 1.1.0. The mod's own changelog lists these changes:[5][6]
- Fixed a NeoForge bug where you could get locked in the config screen of the mod.[6]
- Fixed Global Muffled sounds not creating parent directories when necessary.[6]
- Added a Ko-Fi tip link for donations.[6]
Unverified The pack changelogs do not show any entries for this mod, so which exact pack release moved it to 4.04 is not shown by the sources here.
